I received a gift card promotion notice with my Safeway receipt. $25 off a qualified purchase of $50 or more when you purchase $150 worth of participating Gift cards. I haven’t checked out to see which gift cards qualify. The info is on the Safeway website though.

Maybe by the MC and then use that to pay for a $100 Albertson’s card so you have $140 in groceries less the $5.95 activation.

I just tried this at Albertsons and the checker ladies that I could not buy gift card with the gift card. I think she was wrong because there is no exclusion listed on the MasterCard gift card. Anyone else know?

I think the albertsons market in my town is doing spend $100 (on groceries or whatever) get $10 Catalina. Wish I would have thought to buy a gc cuz I spent $50 on groceries and will for sure be spending $50 on amazon at least for Christmas.

No, you cannot use the $20 Catalina to purchase gift cards, and the Catalina expires 1 week after the issue date. The exact legal jargon from their online ad reads as follows:
EARN $20 off your next grocery purchase. Offer valid 11/20/13 – 12/03/13 *See store for participating gift cards. $20 free grocery coupon issued at checkout and may be redeemed on your NEXT grocery purchase. Coupon expires (1) week after issuance. Coupon not valid for previous purchases and cannot be used to purchase gift cards….

When you buy $100 in specific gift cards, the $20 off your next purchase catalina will print at the check stand. You don’t need a coupon to do the deal in the first place.

I am in Washington and yes, at least in our state they do charge sales tax on gift card purchases
Also in WA and there is definitely not taxes on the purchase of a gift card.
There shouldn’t be sales tax on gift cards.. There are sales tax when you use the gift cards.. If they charge to buy gift cards and when you use them then they would be charging sales tax twice….

Each state has different value. In AZ and NV they only offer 10 off the next purchase, not 20. It’s better than nothing I guess.

You’re right. It is $20, but my albertson’s store printed 2 of $10 coupons instead of 1. The $10 off I mentioned above is actually an extra $10 they’ll give you for making $100 purchase. So today I purchased 6 of the $100 gc and I got 17 of the $10 off coupons (for some reason it wasn’t printing the last $10 coupon).
Yes…you are right…2 $10 coupons came out. I purchased 3 Mastercards at one Albertson’s and received the 2 $10 plus the bonus $10 (to be used starting the 29th) for each MC purchased. I went to another Albertson’s and the cashier would not give me the bonus $10 coupon…said it printed by mistake. ): Whatever!
The people that work at my albertson don’t even know the rules of the coupons. I tried to use some of the $10 coupons in several different transaction (since the coupon states only one coupon per transaction per day. what a hassle), the cashier at self check out told me that I have to make a purchase of at least $20 per transaction to use the coupon. Hmm, I don’t see that printed anywhere on the coupon. And when I went to a different cashier, she didn’t mention anything about the minimum purchase requirement. Sad how clueless they are of their own program.

I purchased $100 Target GC, but since the manager wasn’t aware of which gift cards weren’t included in the promotion and a $20 cat did not print, he gave me a $20 Albertsons GC. Even better deal since the gc doesn’t expire!
In TX….purchased $100 Amazon got 2 $10 off my groceries. Not sure if I can use these together or how come it’s not one $20 coupon..but super happy it worked!
It happened to me too. They told me that I can only use one per transaction, but the cashier didn’t catch it and let me use them anyway.

They have another promotion going on in my store in Las Vegas that if you spend $100 in groceries you get back a $10 coupon, I guess the deals stacked 🙂

then…

Total=out of pocket $105.95 for $134.05 of goods

I called my local Alberson’s and they said it works for Applebees, Bass Pro Shop, Mastercard, Kohls, Itunes, Amazon, Kindle, AMC, American Eagle, BabysRus, ToysRus, Wild Buffalo, Lowes and Regal Cinemas. Good Luck 🙂
Just tried this on 18th in Eugene and it didn’t work. I bought a $100 mastercard in one transaction and a $50 amazon, $25 kohls, and $25 toys r us in the 2nd. Paid cash for both transactions, neither printed a Catalina. No one had any clue how the promotion worked and I spent over 15 minutes waiting for them to look to see if my cards were valid. Finally a supervisor just gave m $40 cash. I asked for a gift card for albertsons because I didn’t think they should give me cash but they gave it to me anyway. The lady at the service desk is very rude and has no clue so I don’t suggest you go to this location. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Does anyone know if you can purchase dairy products with the Catalina? I know sometimes they exclude it.
