Know the Policies
Familiarize yourself with the Target Corporate Coupon Policy and Target Price Matching Policy. I recommend you print a copy of these policies and place them in your Coupon Binder or simply pull them up on the free Hip2Save App.
A few notes – Target will not accept printable coupons for free products. If a coupon exceeds the value of an item, the coupon amount will be reduced so you will get the item free but you will not get any overage.
Target will match the price of a qualifying item if you find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target weekly ad or within seven days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad (note that you will want to do the price match at the Guest Service Desk, although I have heard that some stores are now price matching at the register).
You can use coupons when price matching! Manufacturer’s coupons will be applied after the price match is made. Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made.
Use Target Store Coupons
Target store coupons CAN be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons = AWESOME savings!
Print Target coupons directly from Target.com. Note that Target.com offers up both Target store coupons and Manufacturer’s coupons. To differentiate these types of coupons, look for the text on the coupon – Target store coupons will typically have the text “With the Purchase of…” and Manufacturer’s coupons will typically have the text “When You Buy…”. See the examples above.
Most printable coupons are limited to one like coupon per transaction; however, Target has made some recent changes and some printable coupons now state a limit of 4 like coupons per transaction. Awesome!
Request Target coupons via your mobile device by texting COUPONS to 827438 – simply show your coupon barcode to the cashier at checkout and with one scan, all applicable coupons are applied. Keep in mind that not only can you text the word above to get mobile coupons, but you can also regularly text certain words to 827438 to get additional mobile coupons. I post about all of these extra mobile coupon offers on Hip2Save!
Find Target coupons in your Sunday Newspaper Inserts – note that these are only available several times per year and do tend to be regional. These coupons have a limit of 4 like coupons per transaction.
Occasionally, you will also find Target store coupons in magazines and in the mail.
Use Target Cartwheel Offers
Target also now offers up Cartwheel offers and Target allows one manufacturer coupon, one Target coupon and one Cartwheel offer to be combined per item purchased. This makes for HUGE savings since you are basically able to stack 3 different offers. How sweet is that?!
To get started with Cartwheel, head over here, sign in/register for an account via Facebook or with your email address and then add the offers you want. Note that Target Cartwheel offers are deducted after all Target store coupons but before manufacturer’s coupons. Each Cartwheel offer may be used for up to a maximum of 4 qualifying items per offer per transaction, unless otherwise noted.
When you head to checkout, the cashier will either scan the Cartwheel barcode on your phone OR you can print the barcode and bring it with you. With one scan, all applicable Cartwheel Offers that you added will be applied.
thank you for posting this…i’ve been hesitant to shop at target because I joke you literally have to do “cartwheels” (like the app) to get the savings! I might try a few deals now! thanks!
You’re welcome! 🙂
Oh, you need to try Target. I call it the “horse and pony show” with all the different coupons(MQ, TQ, mobile coupons and cartwheel) to show at checkout, but if you’re organized, it’s super simple. I get such great deals there! I’ll take Target any day over Walgreens!! Give it a try. You’ll be hooked!
It took me a while, but now I get how the whole Target coupon game! It’s a lot to get straight at first with all the stacking! Add the “gift card back” deals, and it’s even more fun :). I LOVE Target and all the deals I get there!! Thanks for the video Colin!!
You’re welcome! I love Target too! 😉
I convinced my boyfriend to follow hip and he is learning to do his own deals. This is going to be fun!
Super fun! 🙂
I always keep a couple of $5 gift cards in my wallet to “roll” like WAGS or CVS money!!
Can’t go wrong with the gift cards! 😉
Not to nit pick, but you can have overage if your store allows it. The policy says the coupon **may** be reduced if its more than the product and no cash back is given. My store scans coupons at full value. I also get overage sometimes when I stack and store and manufacturer coupons. You just have to have other items in your transaction to absorb the overage.
I agree, but for my store it depends on the cashier. Some will just push it through when it asks to confirm the coupon and I’ve had others look more closely at the coupon, verify the product amount and then reduce it.
Im sure u ladies know that if u cant remember the 827438 number, just type in the word target and convert it to the numbers, all walks your in, thanks mrs hip we love all your videos
Wala your in, sorry, auto correct
Lol!!!!!!!!!!
When you print a coupon off of the Target website is there a way to know if it’s a target coupon or a manufactures coupon before you print it?
She noted that in the post above: To differentiate these types of coupons, look for the text on the coupon – Target store coupons will typically have the text “With the Purchase of…” and Manufacturer’s coupons will typically have the text “When You Buy…”. See the examples above.
I think Collin was explaining when your looking at the actual coupon. I’m asking before you print it. I know this was a discussion a long time ago and I just needed a refresher. Is it as simple as at the Target coupon site some of them say to redeem online use code xxxx before you select and print them. Is it that simple are those the Target store coupons and the ones with out the online code designation the manufacture ones?
Hi April,
The Wording I am referring to is actually stated on the coupons prior to printing, so Target store coupons will typically have the text “With the Purchase of…” and Manufacturer’s coupons will typically have the text “When You Buy…”
I use Safari browers and when you roll over the coupons on the Target page it will tell you weather it is a store coupon or Mfg coupon
Wondering if I have a energetic pre pay phone !can I still send get mobile coupons ?
Bad spelling meant generic and wanted to know if after I send code what will I get back as a message ?or can you use a app. on my cheaper phone ?help
I have a go phone that I am able to pull up mobile coupons on. You just have to be able to use the internet on your phone so you can open the link.
I thought you could use 4 like target q’s?
All target coupons that I’ve printed say “Limit one coupon or offer per guest.” Does this mean the same as the words mentioned in the post above… “Most printable coupons are limited to one like coupon per transaction” ?????
Yes! 🙂
can someone plz explain 🙁 Yesterday I got a new phone (before this I did not have smart phone and no text for free option) and now my plan has unlimited text for free. So now when I texted coupons to 827438…I got a msg back to sign up and agree with my name and zip code. It did say that msg and data rates will apply. Will I end up paying for target texts…or will it be free
Free
Thnx…i.wanted 2 make sure 🙂
Part two? Can’t find it. ….. hmmmm
Part two next week…it’s at the bottom of the post. It’s like an end of the season cliff hanger :0….I can’t wait I need more Collinnnnnnn!
LOL! Thanks, April! 😉
My phone can text to that number. It says I need a 10 digit number. Any ideas?
I printed some Target coupons from their website today and now when you hover over the coupon before you select it, if it is a Target coupon it now shows as such at the top of the coupon before you select it. If it is not, it will not say anything.
I looked up the cartwheel app, but it has more 1 star ratings than 5. So not worth the hassle, in my opinion. The reviews were pretty poor for a “major” store.
In the play store it has an overall 4.1 rating. I have only had a issue using it at one Target that had really bad wifi. With their offers for 40-50% that are becoming more frequent I think it is from definitely with it.
Cartwheel is AWESOME. I’ve only had one instance where it force closed in-store But overall I think it is a 5-star app. I’m able to scan items in store to see if there is an offer and add it to my cart. Sometimes I just don’t have time to go through all the offers, b/c there are hundreds of them! I’m almost to $100 in savings. Every penny adds up! Instead of going by poor reviews, why not download it and try it for yourself. If it isn’t for you, then you can delete it.
Great tips for new couponers! Also what annoys me is that you cannot price match to another local target who may have marked something down early. And you can’t price match to clearance items that are online. Can’t wait for part 2.
Target is by far the easiest store to get deals at in my area (Boise ID) the walmart is horrible with coupons but the target is always very coupon friend plus if you have heard you can get a target debit card it links to your regular checking account but you still get the 5% off everything like with the credit but without the risk of incurring debto
Speaking of Walmart….I went to Walmart last night and used several B1G1 coupons. The system has been updated and the computer took the amount charged automatically. This made it really nice for the cashier. She was a manager and it was the first time it had worked for her. She did tell me that if it doesn’t scan or it beeps, they can’t take it now.
I’ve only used cartwheel once and I could only select 10 coupons to put in my basket but a Target cashier told me that the more you keep using cartwheel the more slots you get for loading coupons …so you are not limited to 10 forever. So I am going to keep trying.
Yes. I’m up to 20. You unlock badges and earn more spots. One way, is to get your FB friends to sign up off of yours.
I have used 2 Target coupons in the same transaction. The problem I run into at Target is they are out of everything I am looking for! For price matching, do you do this during the transaction or do you have to go to customer service after you make your purchase? I have not tried adding price matching. ..yet!
You have to price match at the customer service desk. If you have a lot, go there first for your price match items and then check out regular for your other items.
For some reason i can’t get the OFFERS target mobile coupon to work…. it just keeps telling me to sign up which i do. Any suggestions?
You can also save 5% by having the Target debit or credit card. You can also receive $.05 for each reusable bag that you bring for bagging.
I don’t want to pay fee for texts so I got Google voice number. I did text to Target but no reply. Please help!
I tried the google voice before, but no luck..Luckily my carrier offered a new plan for us with unlimited texting.
You mentioned Target will not accept printable coupons for free products, does it mean I still can use a “free item” coupon that i received directly from the manufacturer? Thanks in advance,.
you can’t use printable coupons for free items, but manufacturers are fine
shopping at target is very easy. for example, yesterday i went to target for sensodyne toothpaste, which is listed as $5.49 regular price. i used one $1 manuf coupon, one $1 target store coupon, 15% cartwheel, and submitted for $1 Shopmium app rebate. the final price i paid for my sensodyne toothpaste was $1.82!! great savings!
Please consider using my Shopmium referral code, thanks – GHUCUFPH
Store competitor’s – Target policy reads “retail” competitor; so do they include local grocery stores? As well, when I was in Target on Sunday one of the employees told me that I can get cartwheel deals off my computer and print out the bar scan and bring it into the store for discounts (I do not have internet on my cell phone); so I’m excited to shop cartwheel, click on deals, print out the barcode, and use it when I check out.
