Happy Friday: 80th Birthday Celebration

Hi Collin! Just like you, my grandmother is a great part of my life and I love her dearly. She moved to the U.S. for a better life when I was only a baby but she has been very present in my life. She is such a lovely woman, so much so that my friends and my sisters’ friends also call her Abuelita (grandma). So for the celebration of her 80th birthday we wanted to show her how much we love her. We planned for months for a secret birthday party. Even my uncle and his family came from Colombia (where we are from). It was the first time in 20+ years that the family was going to be together.
My grandma loves the casinos so what better theme than casino night!
As a great Hipster, I was looking to save as much as possible on the decorations so Dollar Tree was my place to go. I am very crafty, and very DIY (Pinterest saved the day). I watched how to make cookies on YouTube and practiced for weeks (my coworkers were very happy to get free cookies). I even made a Casino sign (it took hours and a couple of broken nails)!

My grandmothers and grandfathers were very important in my life and now as a grandmother myself I think the time and thought given to making her a perfect birthday is so sweet. What a sweet granddaughter you are. My dad’s side of the family is also from Colombia. How awesome that you were all able to celebrate together. I love Colombia and hope to be able to visit again someday to introduce my kids to their heritage.

I LOVE the casino sign…when I first saw it I thought it must have been something you rented. And I used to make decorated sugar cookies and know how much time they take. Great job!!
