I have an off topic question related to your comment and hopefully others can chime in. Everytime there is a good deal like this I tell myself I’m gonna treat my family.. Like I’ve taken advantage of the free movie tickets with a dvd purchase… Took my sis, mom and mominlaw. Told them it was my treat and I even purchased snack combo packs there so we could all have popcorn and a drink. We all had a blast but my sis wanted expensive candy and I kinda felt like “what the heck? That’s so unappreciative”… Or a few months back I got a deal for $5 off $50 gift card at red lobster so I purchased 2 and took some family as a treat for my mother on Mother’s Day. So that the ones that couldn’t go bc they didn’t have money could go. I felt the more the merrier. Both of my nephews , one who couldn’t go bc he didn’t have money) ordered a $24 plate each! And that same one brought along his girlfriend who ordered a $20 plate. My moms plate and mine was only $9… I was very upset bc it was a Mother’s Day thing and I was being nice paying for everyone bc I wanted a lot of us there for her mothers day dinner. So I always feel like I get taken advantage of in these situations.. I also feel like If I take some of my family to get this deal at ihop, it won’t be worth it bc they will all want soda, and half won’t even want pancakes, they will all want something different…. so a $.57 pancake per person becomes $10 per person. Last time I treated my sis to ihop she ordered a huge plate plus all these extra sides (stuff I know she wouldn’t order if she was paying bc she’s a college student!). :/ am I the only one who deals with this? What would be people’s suggestions?

        Laura,

I understand. My sister and her daughter’s are the same way. We go out and eat as a family and split the bill. We still end up paying for most of the meals since it’s like were paying for an extra person who ordered a 20 steak! When me and my husband only ordered a 10 or less plate. My suggestion is to split the bill or do a cookout at home. 🙁

That is totally rude! I feel your pain. I have a couple family members that will order double the amount of food they would normally so they can take leftovers home…when I have paid for there dinner! It’s crazy! The same ones have done it several times. When we want to pay for their dinner now, we go out for pizza, so we can control what we order:)

Oh my God People keep your dirty laundry at home.

        • Laura

Sorry mom if these comments offend you, I don’t think it should be seen as dirty laundry if I was asking if this happens to others and suggestions on how to go about it.

Maybe don’t say that it’s your treat. People will order as they would if they were paying, and maybe they’ll be more cognizant of how much things cost.

Hi Laura. I understand that you want to treat family members but when you call to invite them. Say this hey me and the family are going to IHOP for 57cents pancakes and was wondering if you wanted to go. If they say yes thrown in now if you go your limited is $2.00 because it’s my treat and I’m trying to save you know Christmas is right around the corner. Far as going out to dinner. Hey you want to go to dinner my treat but your limit is $12.00 but I do want as many family and friend members to come but if you bring a guest sorry but they will have to pay for their own meal

      Great advice!

It’s not completely rude to say you are just paying for the deal or each person has $10. I’ve been with people who have done this and it’s not rude to do so. No one is made of money and they should understand that. It’s rude of them to take advantage of your kindness.

Ihop you better not go if you are mexican, it was in the local news in AZ how they have it on their applications =mexicans encouraged not to apply! Sad world we live in.

Thanks everyone who responded and for the great advice! I was beginning to think I was wrong in feeling taking advantage of being that I was the one that invites.
