Family Dollar: How One Reader Scored 38 Items for UNDER $10 (And You Can Too!)
Have you had a chance to stop by your local Family Dollar for the 90% off Red Tag Clearance Event? Check out what Hip2Save reader, Kim, was able to find at her local store…
Hi! I just wanted to share my recent find. I went to Family Dollar in search of the 90 percent off deals I heard about from Hip2Save and was able to score some pretty fantastic things! Unfortunately, our local FD did not clearance out their toys but I did manage to find a few other things that I just could not live without! Everything I purchased came to under $10! Here is a quick rundown of what I purchased thanks to you:
10 pair women’s underwear
5 pair girls shorts
1 girl tank dress
1 really cute “love” T-shirt for momma
5 pair girls shoes
3 pair girls sandals
2 party bags
2 sets of invitations
3 kids cups
Huge EZ freeze juice water bottle
Fridge bottle
Girls sunglasses
Contact case
And 2 school folders (which turned out to be free since our local Family Dollar considered it to be “pennied out” meaning they don’t charge for items under 0.04).
38 TOTAL ITEMS!
Thanks again to Hip2Save for all that you do and helping this stay-at-home mom of 3 stay on a budget!!
Wow! I was gonna say I love your hardwood floor but then realized it was your table! I keep forgetting to stop over at Family $ to see if my store has anything left. Thanks for sharing.
I also noticed the beautiful “hardwood floors” 😄
Lol. Nope just our table;)
The two near me were pretty cleared out 😞
Bummer
Thanks for sharing!!
Wow!!! Awesome job! I have to get to mine today
I went to 3 stores today. I got blinds, curtain rods, tons of toddler sandals, toddler sun glasses, sunscreen, mens polos, band-aids, lots of tissue paper/wrap (some Disney!), but my fav find was hair die for .74ea! There was a lot of roach/ant/mouse stuff, baby pools, summer decorations and lots more. Try to get there, people!
Mine didn’t have much left today… But I did get 3 beautiful framed Asian artwork for about $1.50 and some plastic cups for 15 cents!
Sweet!
Funny I stopped at one in Richmond today w/clearance signs on the door. Thought that boded well, since I’d been in a few weeks ago and it was picked over. Not sure why they bothered w/signs bc it was wiped out. :/ oh well. I was looking for a specific item and don’t really need anything else.
Darn, sorry to hear that Erin.
What state are you in? If you don’t mind me asking. Is it Ky?
Nice to see a fellow RVA hip2save fan. The one of midlothian trpk and warwick has a bunch suncreens that dont expire till 2017 for 60 cents.
I stopped by my local FD yesterday. Bought 10 packs of little American Flags to use at a National Guard Christmas Party. They were only 20 cents each!
Oh cool! Great score Cecily!
Did your stores have stuff in one location or spread throughout the store?
Our store had two sections and they were not in plain site. I had to search. A lot was picked over but they still had a lot of things left. It was so much fun!
Great Job!!! My store didn’t really have anything left.
Bummer.
My store isn’t having any sale like that… Bummer!
Sorry to hear that 🙁
I went to two FD’s today and it was completely picked over.
I would insert a pic but idk how lol. the first 2 stores i went to didnt have anything really but the 3rd was good. i bough lots of nail polish and make up. a couple balls, 3 books, gift tissure paper, a map, 2 pairs of sunglasses, water wings for a toddler, a toddler size 12 pair of shoes that was missing laces, a pack of pens, twizzlers, peeps, lollipops, gummies, a notebook, a girls watch, 2 packs of press on nails, 2 pencil cases for girls, 2 little tamborines for girls, a tinkerbell party4 pack, a pair of ering , 3 hair bows, i think thats it. for 4.47 at the first store and 8.04 at the second store= 12. 51. i wish their were clothes or cool toys at the family dollars i went too. But im not complaining lol.
Wow! You grabbed some great deals for sure! Thanks for sharing.
also i had a pennied out item i was going to buy – a pack of large smarties for .02 and the cashier said he wasn’t allow to sell anything under 5 cents and took it away from me,
Wow! That sucks. Why even bother pricing below what “they can sell”? One reader up top said they gave it to her for free since it was priced below 4cents. Great finds though. I have to pay a visit to my local two in the morning. Don’t really feel like taking a drive right now since it’s raining. Not worth getting wet and not find a thing huh, then again someone might get wet and grab the last of the goods haha.
The store itself doesn’t price it like that the company itself does when its time to “remove” the item no longer being sold when you find those its typically BC when it was pulled there were a few misplaced throughout the store by customers who decided not to take the item.
Oh darn. That’s odd.
Thats not good. He obviously didn’t know much. If it pennies out it should be free. How else can they get rid their stock. Our FD had cute Minnie and Monster Inc. Folders normally 50 cents, dropped to 40 cents, then with 90 percent off they were 4 cents each or so they say pennies out and they can’t charge you for them. It’s definitely worth the look. I was actually headed to our local thrift store when I remembered the post about 90 percent off, stopped not expecting to find anything but after a store search found two 90 percent off spots and found a lot of great stuff. Was so pumped about my goodies I forgot to hit the thrift store. Maybe tomorrow. Best of luck.
Pennied out is a way of saying the item has been pulled from shelves its not the store pricing its the company. Its technically against policy to sell and/or especially give these items away. Family dollar has their own way of getting rid of these products such as donating them to local shelters (comes in helpful with things like food or clothing). I hope word doest get to high up though for the same of that employees job 😕
Wow that’s so awesome congrats sad to say our family dollar shut down last month so I won’t be able to get in on this amazing sale!! Good luck to all who can
Oh bummer. Sorry to hear that.
I went to the nearest Family Dollar and it didn’t have much left, but for less than $7 I was able to get a lot of balls, children’s bracelets, 4 fly wheel toys, kites, pinwheels, and a few other toys to help fill up my Shoeboxes!
Oh cool!
woyls love to see people donate anything if they are able!!!!?
Yes! That is always a great idea 😉
I got a short/tank outfit, shoes and flip flops for $1.01 🙂
Sweet!
gal ahead of me got .70 sets of kids dishes
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing Sarah.
I got a short/tank outfit, shoes and flip flops for $1.01 🙂 could have got more but it some stuff seemed really low quality.
I went to family dollar yesterday. Mine was pretty cleaned out but I got 4 packs of tissue paper that can be used for Christmas for 40 cents for all 4 packs. Its definately worth taking a quick look.
I only stopped at one hoping to find kids clothes, instead found mostly gift bags, batteries, sunscreen, iPhone car charger, wallet, party invites and decor. Then went next door to dollar general and scored .50 yellow dot apparel, including kids 2 and 3 piece sets and some frozen plastic ware for .10 each
Whew. I wiped the three local to me out of what was left. My grand total would have been over $300!!! I spent $25. Not including my awesome score I found at one today spending $3. The guy at the register was a grouch but he couldn’t ruin my mood lol! Thanks for alerting us Collin.
I found two coffee tables that had been marked down plus the 90% off making them $1.20 and $2.50 each!
I found 4 ladies pjs and 4 men shirts for .60 each.
I visited my 3 nearest stores today and they were pretty much picked over. But, luckily, I was one of the people who picked them over, at 50% off and then 75% off – LOL. Including tax, I spent $12.31, for 36 items. That includes several pairs of girls skorts, shirts, candy, soup, party and stationary supplies, kids watches, OTC medications and a ColecoVision Flashback gaming system. Okay, the video games are really old. But, it was 60 games, for $2.50. Not awful.
When I tried to use a $5 off $25 purchase from my entertainment book I was told it was a fake. The staff is very rude, the customer service line keeps u on hold for 10 minutes, then disconnects you (called 6 times) so I emailed. Got a response a week later that basically said “too bad”. After spending close to $500 in a 4 month period, most of which were items for the local women/children shelter I thought it only good customer service to offer ANY portion of the approx $50 dollars I lost with my “fake” coupons….store credit…..anything. So I assured the woman in my response that I could no longer shop there and I would spread the word regarding their complete lack of concern or respect for customers. Sorry for the length of this comment..just had to follow through with my promise :). Thank you so much for all you do…..I am able to increase all of my donations while still providing for my family with all of your hard work!!!!
