I finally got around to stopping my Family Dollar to check out the clearance and it went an extra 90% off today! I stopped at two stores and the selection was limited but I scored party supplies like tissue paper for $0.12, party favor bags for $0.10 and gift bags for $0.20. I also found a Fisher Price baby girl toy set for $1, a large pirate blow up play pool for $2.50, and sunscreen for $0.29.

I stopped at Family Dollar and discovered that they took their red tag clearance items down to 90% off! I picked up some super cheap party supplies, batteries, combs, etc. Paid $3.29 for a big bag of goodies!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You are so welcome!

  3. alyssa

I was sad to see the employees hoarding cart fulls to save for themselves πŸ™ Hello kitty dolls, Monster hgh dolls, disney princess chairs. Wheeeehhhhh

    • Jennine

One perk they get! Working retail is’nt always fun but employees should defiantly get the inside scoop if they want to. As they can’t buy it when working.

      • Laurie

        πŸ‘πŸ‘

      • Kelsey

Eh, I disagree, even as a retail employee. I think selecting a couple things is totally acceptable. But if employees are filling up several carts for themselves, that is definitely a bit unprofessional. Most retail stores really frown upon that excessiveness.

        • Jennine

All things in moderation πŸ™‚ and who knows maybe they have giving hearts with extras, my guess is family.

          • natalie

if i worked there i’d fill up on toys to donate to needy kids and to send overseas in the missionary gift boxes. personal care items i would make homeless giveaway bags or send to military still overseas. would that make me a bad person?

    • Amber

I could see a couple here and there. Not cartfuls but at the same time if I were working there I’d want the advantage also.

      • alyssa

Yeah good for them, but not while you are on the clock. At my family dollar, they also take the coupons and re-use them for themselves. Example the glade warmer deal, or the Oxi laundry detergent. After I have payed (w/my coupons) they are shocked by the deal, and I have seen them go grab the rest off the shelf. I hung around, and watched them pay with my coupons! Literally.

        • Jennine

Ooo illegal. I would ask to speak to lost prevention. Or call and let them know which day so they can look up the tapes.

          • Casey

The same thing happens at my Walgreens! Wasn’t sure who id call! They keep my coupons out versus putting them in the drawer and I’ve watched them do the same!

            • Jennine

I would gently remind the cashier first before asking for a manager. if not call the store you shopped at ask for a manager to express your concern. The number will be on the receipt. Fill out the survey at the bottom of recipes as well they take those seriously. Box stores all have someone working there for lost prevention reasons. Keeping the peace, making sure people are not stealing and handling police matters ASAP. They are the ones who would review the tapes to determine what happened to the coupons.

    • Kim T

I agree. What I’ve seen in my town is thrift store workers doing the same type of thing – hoarding up the good stuff that comes in before it gets to the rack. There really should be some sort of policy in place for such.

      • Mm

In both cases- doesn’t matter an employee or customer- is greediness. I’m happy that I won’t get it, the cheap and hazardous things, at the end woke away with my dollars and no crap!

  4. CBNurse

I think I may be on an island by myself over here.. but I say good for those who work in retail and thrift stores and are able to get awesome deals first! Probably one of the few perks of working there. I would take advantage of those kinds of deals/finds if i were in that line of business!

    • Rebecca

I agree. First come first serve.

    • Carla

Um this is obviously wrong and unfair. When I worked in retail, that was completely against the rules and ground for termination of employment. I’m referring to taking stock off the shelves while working. if on lunch break, it’s ok to shop as a customer. Otherwise, not ok.

      • CBNurse

I never said anything about taking stock off the shelf while on the clock.

        • Just sayin'

Yeah but you are bragging about how it’s ok for workers to buy all the deals first, and for the thrift shop workers to get all the great stuff before it even hits the shelves. You must be a shelf clearer. Even if its not an actual policy per store, it’s called morals. Leave some for others. Not cool…

    • Lena

You are not alone on that island πŸ™‚ The people who work in these stores have families to shop for too. If it means their child gets a present under the Christmas tree because they beat me to the “good stuff” then so be it. These employees may not be able to provide a bountiful Santa otherwise…… Before we criticize, remember the employees are people who provide for their families and appreciate deals just like all of us Hip2Savers.

  5. Kathy

Just got back. 73 cents for two jars of salsa verde, 2 Popsicle molds, and a package of teenage mutant ninja turtle napkins. Excited. Thanks.

Awesome! You are very welcome Kathy!

  6. jhnicole

I dont think its fair for employees to take from customers.I work in a place where they offer us retail for free sometimes. They also have special employee sale days and such.discounts etc.We are not allowed to take things during certain times. Most of the time i dont want the merchandise anyway even when its free.Im just there for a paycheck. Its good stuff too.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for sharing.

  7. kim

  12. jackie

wish my two stores would have had toys left. I spent about 6.00 and got 5 bags of items. alot of party supplies and little things I can put in bags I am making for kids that probably would not get anything at christmas. I pass the store every day so I ran in and it was marked to 90 percent. and if you see cashiers using coupons or setting items aside alert mgr and then a note to corporate. they will take care if it.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So glad you scored a few items Jackie!

  13. Barb

  14. lizzy

I was there yesterday. They had tons of garden rock decor and mens sandals. I left kind of upset from that store because i was walking thru an aisle and heard some employees cussing up a storm while stocking there backroom. The manager there is a 20 yr old jerk aswell.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bummer. Super sorry to hear that Lizzy.
