Why I choose NOT to Moderate Comments

I’ve received quite a few emails recently asking why I choose not to moderate the comments on my blog. Well, the main reason–I want my blog to be real and I want readers to feel like they can voice there opinions–even if they don’t think myself or other reader will necessarily agree with them. Of course, if a comment is disrespectful or inappropriate I will most likely delete it.

I honestly feel that the most important part of my blog is the comments! Questions are answered in the comment section, tips are given, friends are made and so much more. For me to go and start moderating comments, would mean less time to post deals. Also, when you moderate the comments they will not post right away, so if you have an immediate question you need answered, well, it may not get answered very quickly… especially if I’m out running errands or not by the computer to approve comments.

I’m sure most of you know that the discussions on some posts tend to go way off topic (here’s an example of that). I don’t really have control over this. However, I have to admit, sometimes I do find it quite entertaining!:) I especially got a laugh out of this comment, “OMG- I freaking LOVE the internet! Only online could a gum coupon turn into the mommy wars!”

Anyway, I hope you all understand why I choose not to moderate comments.

As if you have time to moderate comments! You have shopping and deal finding to do. 🙂

  2. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I like that you don’t moderate the comments.

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Your site, Your rules:) I just stumbled on the site a week ago and I am hooked;) There are always going to be “those” people on any board. The majority of the people on here seem to really enjoy and appreciate all of your hard work!

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love that you don’t moderate comments. Your site is my favorite and part of that is your wonderful readers. Thanks for finding and sharing the deals!

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just found another sample deal, you may have already posted it, but I haven’t seen it. If you go to aveeno.com you can request a free sample. this is a GREAT shampoo, and rather pricey, so its nice to get a sample for free.

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

your site is addicting, I can not wait for the next deal…..

  7. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I found your site two days ago and LOVE it!!! Thank you Thank you! The videos are the best..I am totally a visual learner. Thanks again!

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’ll comment, since I’m one of those SAHM’s who has “all the time in the world.” LOL!!!!!

I moderate a board on another site and it’s a ridiculous amount of work. I can’t imagine moderating a blog like this. I think the comments from people with their heads shoved up their rear ends are hilarious, please keep them. But seriously, I get a lot of information from other people’s comments and I’ve found them really helpful. 🙂

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hee hee. I don’t often comment, or read the comments for that matter (a lurker?) But your case in point was so funny.

Thank you for the time you put into this blog. I appreciate the variety of posts you have and different types of deals.

I agree with the others. Your blog. Your rules.

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Collin, you have helped so many people and we appreciate all you do. As you said, we would rather you post deals/coupons/etc, rather than moderate comments. You are the best!!

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Love your site and check it daily…okay, several times daily.

  12. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I totally agree with fishinglady. I am so addicted to your site that if I don’t check it every half an hour or so, I feel so anxious and restless.. Thank you for all the wonderful deals…

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I have a question. I got the Save-a-lot coupon book in the mail today. Can I use those anywhere or do they have to be used at Save-a-lot?

    Thanks guys!

    Melanie

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for not moderating. I would rather that you have more time to find us amazing deals! I have saved sooo much money using this site! I like that I kind find answers to my questions in the posts and yes many of them are very entertaining!

  15. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am so entertained by all the commets…I could read them all day

Speaking of off subject…I was just curious if any of you can get the Herbal Essence page to load from facebook?

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I think if someone feels it should be moderate maybe they shouldn’t read the comments…

Many times they are helpful..I did not see anything about the gum wars that was helpful but I did get that great link on the wet jet and placed my ebay order because of it!

So rock on helpful commenting couponers!

The nit pickers and whiners need to find a different blog and leave collin alone!

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

got the herbal essence page to load. good luck

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Tweet, Tweet! This is hilarious

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Gum rocks!!!

  20. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Kudos for not moderating! Mommy wars are quite entertaining to watch.

I had no idea people had such strong feelings about gum, either.

I also love how people always get judged for stockpiling. I have over 70 boxes of cereal right now (and I know of people who have much, much more). I’m sure this info will give someone a heart attack.

  21. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am loving this…keep doing what you are doing…all of this over gum!!! this is too funny

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I do think it is rather interesting where some of these comments end up, I just don’t want any of it to upset or discouraged you hip2save! Love your deals.

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the admission of stockpiling cereal. I LOVE it that I’m not the only one. 🙂

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It’s like a reality show, But better! I get to save money and be entertained. Plus, other generous ones like yourselt usually answer my ?’s and give me tip/links. Love it.

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow!!! I missed seeing the gum/mommy war! That was amazing! Maybe even more so than the O.N. ones! I appreciate that you can just ignore all this stuff and not let it get to you. (I hope it doesn’t get to you!)
🙂 Thanks for all your work.

  26. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m a stay at home dad of 3 and I love your site. It cracks me up reading all the comments about gum. Thank you for all your hard work finding the deals for us. I must check your site at least 10 times a day waiting for the next big savings.

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I go to your site EVERYDAY since I was told about it (6 mos. ago) and I have learned so many things from you and your readers. You are doing soooo much for us already. Dealing on what the “other” people say is the least we can do for you… Collin, Love your atitude! -MIA-

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Ahh now that’s some good comedy.

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love your site and am a faithful reader. people should respect the fact that it is YOUR blog and web site. =)

  30. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The only way someone’s comments would bother me would be if it changed the fact that you supply us with such great info and deals everyday. When someone makes a comment that is negative, I cringe and hope you don’t get discouraged about your blog. It’s my second home on the net and I’d hate to see it change.

  31. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I like that you don’t moderate the commnets – you have the best site out there! Thanks!!

  32. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Love your site, love the comments! Thanks for all your hard work. Wow! 70 boxes of cereal…puts my 24 to shame! :o)

  33. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Okay – I feel the need to say this –

Collin, Please don’t ever let the few drive you carazy enough to stop this blog. Pretty Please. I promise at least 90% of us have to be legally sane and love your site.

Just block out the craziness. The rest of us would hate to lose you!

  34. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

To Anonymous 1:15, you can use those Save-a-lot coupons anywhere. I used one at Target a few months back and it scanned just fine.

I also love the comments. I placed my Wet Jet Ebay order after reading the comments. I would have never known about this (or come up with it on my own..).

  35. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

it’s HILARIOUS that you guys stockpile 70 boxes of cereal! LOL

Seriously what do you do with it all??? (What’s the point?)

Or maybe I just don’t get it cuz I’m single? (I only have MAX 10 boxes at a time but I actually eat it every morning for breakfast!!) 🙂

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m glad you don’t moderate, but the Stay At Home Mom and Working posts probably should be deleted as they are pretty hostile. We’re all adults here and I think some of us are acting like babies.

  37. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m glad my comment on the gum/mommy wars made you laugh! I’ll think I’ll go make it my tweet for the day. 😀

  38. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Love your site…change nothing!!

PS I have been a working out of the home mom and a work at home mom (transcriptionist). I would have to say stress wise working from home far outweighs the “breaks” I would get from working outside the home. Seriously, I would call them a break….but I do have a lot of respect for the working mom because I know how hard it is to leave those little ones day in and day out.

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This was too funny!!! Had me in tears!!!lol

  40. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Unfortunately, I have to moderate comments because someone kept leaving links to porn sites in my comment section saying check out this savings. Imagine that someone actually has the time to search out a coupon savings blog and take the time to leave porno link in their comment section. Crazy world we love in. Love your blog!!!!! Keep the open comments

  41. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This is completely off topic but I wanted your advice on something. My son’s school is selling magazines for their fundraiser and I noticed that they are selling the All You Magazine, a 2 year subscription for only $20. I know there are a lot of couponers on this site and many other bargain sites but how do I get the word out about this deal. Some websites won’t allow me to post links or other websites if a business will be making money on it but this is a school/non profit. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Betty

  42. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Holy Poop, I just read the Trident comments and that was Hi-freakin-larious!!!

I too love how all the $#!% talking is done my anon’s.

Funny stuff Collin!! Please don’t ever moderate!! Its just too good comedy!!

  43. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are doing great. Don’t worry about the comments. Just keep finding us those deals! 🙂

  44. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

LOL! thanks for the friday entertainment. 😉 gotta love the internet. love your site, Collin! you rock!

  45. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for not moderating your comments. I sat down for a quick check and was entertained by a little mommy war. You’re awesome at what you do Collin, thanks for all your work!

  46. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Coupons have worked for me since March and I love it!…mostly I love cking all the deals that you post…I’m a SAHM and I love it even if it means more work…I think that those who make nasty comments just need a BIG HUG…they are not getting their daily dose of love…

I love your blog Collin!…your my friend in my nothing to do life! hehehe…

  47. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Anon, you can do a lot of things with cereal. I’ve been substituting Total for bread crumbs, and you can do the same thing with All-Bran, Rice Krispies, etc.. I haven’t tried it yet, but there are recipes for cereal bars out there that you can make with cereal that has fruit or nuts mixed in (like Post Selects which comprise most of my stockpile because they were a moneymaker at Albertsons). I have my boxes organized with the expiration date facing forward, so if they get close to it and I can see we won’t be able to eat them by then, I’ll donate them to the food bank. I have only recently started stockpiling and I love it. I can cook out of my pantry almost every day.

  48. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I tend to worry a bit about nasty posts on blogs I love as this one and am very thankful for Collin, her readers, and all the information! There has been talk of making people legally responsible for the content of their blogs. I’m glad most of this ended with humor. As funny as this was, perhaps we should just ignore idiotic anon posts?

  49. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What is the difference between a SAHM and a mom that works outside the home.

At the end, both end up cleaning poppy diapers lol!

  50. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m an Administrator on local forum and all I can say is keep doing what you’re doing. When it becomes work, you won’t enjoy it anymore. Keep having fun and this is the best Blog on the interwebs!
