It always amazes me to see how much people will pay when dining out! We we go out, as a family, the one thing we make a point to do is order water! I swear, that alone saves us a ton! And of course, we go to the places that are offering up the best coupons. I have even printed off extra coupons and handed them out to strangers at restaurants. Most people are very appreciative and it’s a great feeling knowing you’ve helped them save a few dollars!

My hubby always gets embarrassed… I find his red cheeks quite funny! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Water, us too, because it saves us $8 right off the top!! It is crazy.

  2. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Ohh that sounds like something I would do… WHO cares… you’re helping someone else out. I know as a waitress that’s something that we hate b/c it usually takes from the tip but…. you are saving someone money and I love that!!

    • Tami

Yes, people need to remember that when they tip they are to tip “pre-coupon” – the service industry workers such as waitresses make their money on tips.

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

hahahaha..i do the same i only order water !! and my hubby got embarrassed so easily too when I am so proud of my “saving power” lol

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What a great idea, but my hubby would die if I handed out extra coupons. He gets embarrased when I use coupons at restaurants. He is all for coupons anywhere else, but for some reason this bothers him. I don’t understand why? Every dollar saved counts, right?

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Destiny,
I think you bring up a very good point, my husband and I always tip based on the original amount of the bill before any discount, actually sometimes we even give a little more because we saved a lot from deals like this, well i think this is the right thing to do, but that’s only my opinion.

  6. Savnformyzoo

i have given strangers coupons too, they our like wow!!!

it amazes me how many folks in my town look at this site, i run into people everyday, some never heard of this site, i have looked at other sites but none really compare – THANKS FOR HELP ME SAVE

With a family of 5 we always order water too…but then we ask for extra lemon, we use a few sugar packets and make ourselves homemade lemonade! Its tastes the best, its FREE, and it makes everyone happy ๐Ÿ™‚

    • collin

Love this idea, Jaime! I will definitely be doing this next time we’re out! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

If you do this, keep in mind that the server cuts those lemons, fills those sugars and refills your glass, so include that in the tip. I used to own a restaurant and that is one of the most annoying things a customer can do. Ordering water is fine, ordering extra lemon and making lemonade is taking being tight a little to far.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Have you guys not seen news reports about how many types of bacteria they have found on lemons cut for drinks in restaurants? If you did, you sure would not order lemons! The lemons usually sit out for many hours and are usually handled without gloves. YUCK!

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I googled “bacteria on restaurant lemons”. OMG! Good thing I don’t like lemons and always tell the waitress not to put one in my tea!! It will make anyone think twice about ordering them!!

    • MamaBear

that is the best idea ever!! i always get water, but never think of this! duh! i feel like someone just smacked my head like on the V8 commercial… SMACK! ๐Ÿ™‚ now… how to get my sweet tea addicted hubby to jump on board …

    • Guggie Daly

if you knew how those lemons were cut, touched and laid out all day you would run away barfing lol

Ha…I fine it funny that there are no Lone Star Steakhouse locations in the actual Lone Star State (TX, where I live). Oh well…I’ll have better luck next deal.

    • Carol Ann Cordell

I just noticed that too…haha oh well

    • MamaBear

lol and i always thought that texas pete was from texas but its bottled right here in NC… i guess texas has really great appeal ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, I sign up and the closest one come to find out in MI is like 2 hrs away from me. Oh well, there is a Casino there, might make a nice weekend road trip! lol

I used a lonestar free app. coupon Christmas week and didn’t have any problems. Slightly OT, but I gave some coupons to a couple who were in the travel section buying baby wipes at target a few weeks back (when there was the $1.00 coupon for the Up and Up wipes). At first the woman declined to accept them, but her boyfriend/husband? spoke up and said “no we’ll take them, thanks.” Proof that some men aren’t embarrassed by coupons:-) In fact, my dad is so proud of my couponing and my mom is the one who gets all flustered when I ask her to go deal shopping with me.

Don’t forget that kids eat free off the kids menu with paid adult entree on Tuesdays. Not sure if they let you use the appetizer coupon too though….

  12. freida

I, too, like to offer people coupons. What surprises me is how many people say no. Maybe they are suspicious of people offering free stuff. Or maybe they just like to pay full price. But knowing that I like to get good offers makes me continue to offer to others.

Oh my goodness, ordering a soda for the whole family can be So Expensive! Even coffee at IHOP is like $1.89! That’s HALF the price of a bag at the store! For coffee! My husband & I usually share a drink, but we have often ordered water too. Nothing wrong w/that! And nothing wrong w/giving it to the kids as they certainly have enough juice/coke otherwise. Today we went to Chuch E. Cheese and ate, but NOT their pizza! $$$ ……..I ordered a salad (all you can eat) so I plated it for both me and the hubs, then I ordered us ONE drink (to share;got two straws) and I ordered two hot dog kids plates (came w/mandarin oranges also and plenty of fries!) Ordered them ONE drink (got three straws! They shared, no prob!) and my total was $17.00. That was enough! But pretty good I thought for CEC. Whew. We do NOT do that often or eat there really at all! But everyone got full & was happy. I suppose our total could have been around 14.00 if no soda, but you know, it was their last day of Christmas brk. and we wanted to do something nice w/them. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sharing drinks that get refills and all you can eat food is ripping off the restaurants. You will be embarassed if you get caught and they make you pay for the extra person, not something you want to happen in front of kids. If you can’t afford it, don’t go.

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

MY LOANSTAR (in Utah) has “kids eat free” on Tuesday’s. It’s a great time to take the kids out to eat! Add the appetizer to that and enjoy…
