It’s Hip 2 Give: New Feature!
Some of you may have noticed a new feature on the sidebar of Hip2Save called It’s Hip 2 Give! The purpose of this feature is to highlight charities, nonprofit organizations, and/or outstanding individuals who are striving to improve the lives of others, to enhance communities and to make the world a better place! I am so honored to announce the first recipient to fill the “It’s Hip 2 Give” box…Happy Chemo!
Here is a letter that I received from Ginger, the director/creator of Happy Chemo:
“I love the quote that says ‘If you haven’t been through adversity…where have you been?’ Everyone in life will be faced with trials and challenges. Mine came in the form of breast cancer. I was diagnosed on Halloween of 2006 at age 31 while 5 months pregnant. Yah…scary. But with every difficult situation in life, I feel we each have a choice to make. Do I choose to just hurt, or do I choose to help? I chose to help and it has made all the difference.
HappyChemo! is a direct result of choosing to help others even though my own life was completely turned upside down. During chemotherapy, I’d take my newborn and 2 older children and go out to local businesses to obtain freebies and discounts for the patients in the chemo room. Then before my drip line began, I’d hand them out and watch the smiles appear. I originally called it “Do Good, Feel Better” because I found that the more good I did for others, the better I felt. I’ve since changed the name to HappyChemo! because the oxymoron gets A LOT of attention and we are still doing good for cancer patients today. (Side note: I still feel great!)
HappyChemo! delivers gift bags to chemotherapy patients, caregivers and office staff in cancer treatment centers. Anyone who is associated with the chemotherapy experience receives one. Gift bags contain discount coupons, sample products and other health related information that can help cancer survivors and their support team during and after treatment. Through this method of distribution we’ve created a win-win situation for everyone involved and that makes it even more rewarding.
We applaud those who are working diligently to find a cure and until there is one, HappyChemo! will be cheering up the cancer patients who have to take chemotherapy to survive. This is great, my mom passed away 7 years ago when she was 49 years old of Colon Cancer. I am sure she would of loved something like this when she was doing chemo. Thanks for posting this.
Wow, that is young. My father also died of colon cancer but was 53, still young. Yes, this is such a nice service to give to others during this time in their lives.
This is a great new feature, and I would be honored to help an orginization such as this.
what a great idea, I have had two mamograms in the past month, I have a place on my right breast they are watching I have to go back in two months for another one, my sister in law also has battled breast cancer, she is doing well now. What a blessing something like this is to people battling cancer.
Awesome idea! I will be nominating my favorite charity too, Chemo Angels, volunteer “angels” get matched with patients undergoing chemotherapy and send weekly encouragement by mail in the form of letters and little gifts. I also volunteer through their sister program Senior Angels which does the same for lonely elderly people. My 9 year old Chemo buddy and 98 year old Senior Buddy bring such a sense of purpose to my life knowing that each week those to do items allow me to be an angel to two deserving people.
What a great organization! The only way I see to donate online is to the gas fund…is there no general fund to donate $$ to online?
The only thing I saw, was a mailing address to mail a check too, which would be the general fund. You would have to mail it.

I agree. If every 1 of us even just donated a dollar, it would be a great amount of money. Collin has a lot of readers who save a ton of money with her help. Donating is the least we can do to show her how much we appreciate all of her hard work. Plus, it’s a great cause! 🙂
Yes, even just 1 dollar from each of us…have you seen the amounts of entries in Collin’s giveaways? Sometimes they go over 1,000 entries! Can you imagine $1000 donated in one fell swoop? I always do my best to donate, whether it be clothes/money/food or whatever. It’s not always possible for me but like I said, I do my best. This is an awesome new thing you’ve got goin’ on Collin. You rock lady:)
I think that is a great idea!! If we all pulled together and donated $1 or even more if you could that would be awesome! Maybe Collin or Ginger will read this and some how get it set up where we could donate online thru paypal or something.
Yes, I agree…what’s a dollar to us when we can save so much with our coupons. Maybe they WILL see this note and set something up as you suggested. Paypal would be super easy too.
I recently lost my friend to beast cancer at the age of 30, so this story hits home. I think it is great b/c even though my friend lost the fight she always stayed positive and had hope which I believe kept her here with us longer and made her time with us even more memorable. Thank you for giving people one more reason to smile as they face this fight of a lifetime. Thank you so much.
I visited their website the other day after I noticed the link on the side of your website. What a wonderful cause! It is very rare to find someone that hasn’t been affected by cancer in one way or another! My Grandfather passed away one year ago (last friday, from lung cancer. He had quit smoking when I was baby (30 yrs. ago) and yet still developed lung cancer.
My older son and I (this summer) are volunteering for a “Children’s Miracle Network” hosp. in our area. I am extrememly blessed that my children are healthy, however one can never know when the tables could turn. To volunteer a few hours of my time once a week, is nothing compared to the Hospice Staff and the time they spent with my family and my Grandfather. Pay it forward!
Awesome. We should all learn to give a little more daily. I don’t think there is such a thing as giving to much. Great choice too! Cancer effects us all somehow… 🙁
What a great concept! In January I lost two dear friends to cancer. One of those friends was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 29. She fought for 2 years and was even in remission for 6 months before it came back with a vengeance. She left behind two little boys ages 5 and 8. The other friend was diagnosed 6 months prior to her passing. She gave a good fight as well but her age and her previous health didn’t help matters. She left behind 7 children and God only knows how many grandchildren and great grandchildren. My own children were her adopted grandkids and we miss her terribly. I can imagine that such a cause would have brightened the days of either of our dear friends.
This is awesome!! It made me cry, I have an Uncle who had/has cancer…I only say that because he beat it twice and today he finds out if he has it again 🙁 One of my favorite Aunts passed away from cancer many years ago. I know how chemo can really take a toll on your body and soul. Sometimes the littlest things can mean so much to someone. God bless everyone who has had cancer, loved someone with cancer or work to help people with cancer.
Collin. I wnt to thank you for adding this to your site. My husband and I try to give to a new charity every month. I do believe we have found our new charity! I have also been touched by cancer in my life. My wonderful grandfather passed on from methothelioma. I just want to thanky ou again for everything you do.
Awesome idea Colin! My mom was just recently diagnosed with Thyroid cancer & starts radiation in a couple weeks & nothing right now is “happy” with the cancer.. Organizations & groups like this are much needed!!

What a fantastic idea Ginger had!! I went with my sister for one of her chemo rounds. I was shocked how large the room was and how many people were there. I envision the joy Ginger brings to everyone. Cancer patients go through so much, so any little support can be such a comfort. Kudos Ginger. You are an inspiration to women everywhere. by reading all these stories, we all have been touched in someway by cancer. Just think if all of collins followers donated 1 dollar how powerful we can be in someones life.
I lost a sister to breast cancer in October of 2007. She was always so aware of what others around her were experiencing in deference to herself. Donating to this organization will definitely be an honor in her memory of something she herself would have done, as she did, in her final days. I’m on board of donating to HappyChemo! What a great organization! So many of us have been/will be changed because of cancer. My dad was diagnosed with skin cancer stage 4-5 last Oct. After removing the tumor, he started biotherapy in the hospital for one month and now at home getting treatments from my mom for 11 months. It is extremely hard watching my dad, who typically is outgoing and energetic, do nothing more than walk to the mailbox and feel sick. My dad is only 52 years old, and we know he can pull through this – God is good.. all the time! My heart goes out to anyone that is struggling or knows someone who is struggling with cancer.

I am 31 and currently undergoing chemo treatment for breast cancer. Something like this is wonderful and I am so happy that hop2save is a part of it. Chemo is tough and receiving little “pick me up” gifts are the best. They can turn your day around in a good way!

I can not say thank you enough for this post! I lost an Aunt to cancer in 1997 and my dad passed away 3/9/2007 (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma of the Central Nervous System- center in the brain). I was at the hospital everyday for 9 months and always remember the smile on my dad’s face when an organization came to visit- whether it be a singing group or someone with the church just to come and sit so the family could go home and take a shower. Collin, you truely are a miracle and have the ability to touch so many people’s lives on a daily basis. I ask that God continue to keep his arms wrapped around you and your family. I will be donating- thank you again!

Awesome! As a breast cancer survivor and chemo-goer (age 39) I say, “THANK YOU” for all you do. I had my own little band of “chemo-angels” when I was going through my journey. My ladies at church were just absolutely AWESOME! They did a surprise shower of gifts on me at one of our ladies events – I was very SURPRISED and totally blown away. What a GREAT thing you are doing. Thank You on behalf of those who have “walked through those waters”. What a blessing when others can share through their giving. Blessings to you! What a great addition to what you are already doing! Love the idea about all of us donating $1- most of us can definitely do that and what even $1 would do if all who commented on the giveaways did this.
Hi everyone. Being a nurse you see many things, but I am truelly inspired by the cancer patients I have met.They have such a wonderful, outgoing spirit. The organizations have helped so many people that come from all walks of life. Prayer is very powerful. I donate my free items to shelters and made donations to other organiztions in the past and will continue to. God Bless.
My 3 year old has relapsed neuroblastoma stage 4, Im all for this! I know first hand what a blessing these organizations are. So where do we send money? Thanks Collin! Finding your site has saved me so much. Having 8 kids every penny counts:)
