Reader, Tonya, scored all 39 items (pictured above) at Walmart for just $0.14! Yes, $0.14!

With summer upon us, I’ve been feeling a little out of the coupon loop… if that makes any sense. I just got back yesterday from visiting family in Idaho and didn’t do that much coupon shopping while I was there. Now that I’m back, I have a huge stack of coupons to sort though and clip… and I just can’t seem to get motivated to even start on them. However, after seeing this great picture, I am feeling the motivation come back. It’s so much fun to see pictures like this.  It not only reminds me how much money you can save with coupons, but also the fantastic coupon high you feel when you see your savings on the receipt AND how much fun it can be to annoy your husband or wife! You know… the bragging about your shopping trip that never ends and the picture you make your significant other take of you, your receipt, and all your goodies! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Oh how my hubby loves me!

It’d be great to know how much each item was and the coupons she used on them, pretty please! Might just make me take a little trip over to that dreaded W store. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Shelly T.

I was getting ready to post the same comment. Great deals Tonya, would love to know prices and coupons used. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • cami

I third that~ I want to know how in the heck she did it!

  2. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

are you able to add the coupons that were used on these products???

  3. Tracy

    WOW!!!!

  4. lch2004

    Holy Cow!! Great job Tonya!!!!

  5. Valerie

That picture was great! I went to Rite Aid yesterday with my 16 year old son and together we got for just 15 CENTS:
2 boxes of Frosted Flakes Cereal
1 box of Apple Jack Cereal
    quart of milk
2 boxs of Motrin PM (donation pile)
    2 bags of Chex Mix
6 bags of Reeses Pieces (10.5 oz bags)

    • Valerie

So for me…here’s how I got all my stuff for $.15
2 boxes of Frosted Flakes Cereal @ 1.99 each
1 box of Apple Jack Cereal @ 1.99 each
      quart of milk @ 1.69
1 box of Motrin PM (donation pile) @ 3.00
2 bags of Chex Mix @ 2.99 each
2 bags of Reeses Pieces (10.5 oz bags) @ 2.50 each
      Total $21.64
Used the RA $5 off $20 video coupon
$5 Kellogg’s Coupon that I got from RA promo in May
$1.50 manufacturer coupon for Kellogg’s Cereal if you purchase 3 boxes
$1.00 manufacturer coupon off milk if you purchase 1 box of Kellogg’s
      $3 manufacturer coupon for Motrin
      Store ad for Chex, B1 G1 – 2.99
2 – $.50 manufacturer coupon for Chex Mix for each bag
2 – $1.00 manufacturer coupons for each bag of Reese’s Pieces

Then, since I’m a Wellness Member, I got $3 back for the Motrin. Nice huh!
      Then, my dear son purchased:
      1 box of Motrin PM @ $3.00
      2 bags of Reese’s Pieces @ 2.50 each
      Total $8.00
      Used :
      $3 Motrin Coupon
      2 – $1.00 Reese’s Coupon
$3 Wellness Member Rebate of $3
      Total $0

Then, since he was a Wellness Member, he got $3 back for the Motrin. Nice again.
This time, my dear son purchased:
2 bags of Reeses Pieces (10.5 oz bags)

He loves those Reese’s…. Hope this helps you out. You just need to be creative and include video coupons, manufacturer coupons, and rebates together.

  6. tamgray54

Please, please tell us how you did this!!! I can only hope to be that good some day.

  7. jessica

    wow thats awesome!!

  8. Suni

I also want to add “PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us how you did it”

That is a fantastic job! I am a tad jealous ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Teresa

I agree…what is shown is kinda worthless : ) Would love to see more!

    • liz

Well good for you that it is worthless to you. I spend $150 a month on groceries, toiletries, entertainment, eating out and clothes. I have three small children who need to be bathed at least once daily, and a husband who is six foot seven and uses a lot of soap. My kids love floss and arn’t great at using a little. My husband works 90 hours a week and I try not to drag all three of my kids, including a 8 month old to the store too often. So scoring a deal of this “Worthless Stuff” would bring tears to my eyes. There really is no need for you to be such a downer. Epecially on a site like this.

  10. deb f

Exciting! A nine-month supply of body wash and a lifetime supply of floss! Hope she has lots of storage space.

    • Erika

      LOL =)

  11. Katrina

Wow!! That is definitely inspiring. Also, so glad to know I’m not the only one who bugs my husband about the awesome deals I score (though I know I just sound like the Charlie Brown teacher to him….wha-wha-wa-wa…only in an excited voice!!)

    • Cindy H.

Yes! My husband tunes out too! I get so many deals that I typically don’t even share all my deals anymore, just the best ones.

  12. MandaKay

WOW – that is AMAZING! Way to go Tonya!

  13. Crystal

Great trip! I love that some of her coupon overage went towards tax!

  14. Stephanie

That is awesome! I absolutely need some tips so that I can pull off some deals like this. I have only been reading this blog for about a month now and I am constantly amazed at how much money people are able to save.

  15. Tara

That is just amazing! Congrats, Tonya!

  16. Mrs.Hall

Impossible!! lol Pleas tell how you did it! I have never seen a total that low, and have no clue how it is possible ! Great score for sure!

    • Leslie

We could never be that low in Indiana. Even if everything was free, what is shown is about $6 in sales tax.

  17. Nichole B

    Wow Great Job Tonya!!!!

  18. Jenny

Please share what coupons you used and what insert to get them in. PLEASE!!

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That is awesome! What great motivation for me! Just decided to quit my job and be a stay at home mom and this is so inspiring for me! Thanks for sharing.

  20. LisaM

congrats, I do this all the time and my husband cannot believe the deals I get, he says you go girl……

  21. mary

That is awesome!!!. I plan on doing the same at Target this Sunday. I have over 200 Q’s to use. I have the Target coupon policy handy along with corporates phone # in case any coupon issues arise!. They are not the friendliest at times.

    • Cindy H.

Go for a good cashier! That will make all the difference!

  22. Lori Archambault

Wow, I have such a hard time finding these deals in my area of New Hampshire and when I do get them I have to tell them how to use them and then nicely ask if they would like to see their store’s coupons policy. Great job…it is inspiring and now I need to go and sort through my coupons even more.

  23. cjs

Good score Tonya! Did you just use coupons, or did you have to bring ads to price match some items? Thanks for the inspiration!

  24. Rita@Chi-Town Cheapskate

Holy Crap! Talk about some inspiration! I should email this to all my friends who say “they’re to busy” to coupon! Too busy to get FREE stuff you need! I still don’t get it?

    • lch2004

I have the same problems with my friends. Always have excuses but are amazed at the deals I get.

      • Jill

Me too! But they often reap the rewards because I share with them the items I can’t use. They always say you have to show me how you do this but when I try I know they just don’t really want to. I have learned that it must just be a passion for some of us and not for others ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Cindy H.

I’ve learned there are some friends that just get it and run with it. Other’s you have to hold their hands through everything. When I tell other’s about great deals, they all want to know how I do it. What I do now is I just refer them to Hip2save.

          • Amanda Stone

            Same here lol

  25. Karrie

Thanks for the post Collin, I haven’t been in the “groove” lately this picture certainly reminded me why we do what we do!!

  26. Megan

I really needed this – thanks for posting Collin! Last night I was stressed out in Target and wasn’t paying attention to my coupons and the cashier missed 2 free item coupons – over $8 worth I ended up paying for. Now I have to return the items and I didn’t realize it until I got home ๐Ÿ™ I felt like I should just give up and this was motivation to keep at it and PAY ATTENTION at the end of the transaction. I will keep at it!

    • afeya

yes! Follow your receipt like a hawk. if you have an extra 5 mins sit in your car and look at it..many times I have to go back and fix something

      • Wendi

Yes, watch those cashiers. If it beeps often times they will try to move on to the next coupon, I’ve had that happen twice and didn’t realize until I was headed to the car. Then it was a act of Jesus to get my money back.

  27. Kate

Go Tonya go tonya go tonya go! Please teach me ๐Ÿ™‚ Amazing!

  28. Pamela

Way to go, Tonya! Now that’s what I’m talking about! It’s not about shopping harder – it’s shopping smarter!

  29. teresa

wow. I am surprised that you were able to apply the overrage to pay for taxes! We can’t do that here (IL).

  30. lch2004

Wow….I’m just jealous of the 6% sales tax. We are at 10% where I live. Boooooooo!!!

    • Linda

I’m jealous, too! We’re at 9.5% in Seattle!!

    • afeya

ours is 6% too. and I still hate it..one time my total entire total was $6 in tax..and thats all i paid for

  31. Deb H

I have been out of the coupon loop also, been too busy with work and just using my stockpile. lol. Also, working 10 hour days and building a house. But I need to get back into it. Harris Teeter is having super doubles this week, might have to make a trip this weekend.

  32. fran

    Pretty impressive, Tonya…way to go!

The sad thing about our Walmart in So.Jersey is, their prices are always higher that what Collin posts. I just gave up on it, because no matter how cheap the deal is, my store will not be the same. I really wish each store had the same prices across the country, and the same coupon policies…it would make things a lot easier.

    • Rae

Prices in Florida are always higher, too! And our grocers never double (must be something in the state constitution – haha). We don’t have sales tax on some grocery items, though (like bottled water). I figure that since we don’t pay income tax, the difference in what I save is about the same in the grand scheme of things!

  33. mommy308

I went to Walmart last night and picked up 4 of the Nivea for men body wash and 3 packs of the Schick razors and I paid $1.25. I thought that was a good price until I saw this. LOL

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

What coupons are you using on the bodywash? How much is it at walmart?

      • mommy308

I used the $3.00 off any Nivea for Men body wash and the body wash (Cool type only) was $3.00

  34. afeya

I love shopping like this! I have tons of totals that were $.00! and it was over 40 items!

  35. amanda s.

I would love to know how you got a negative subtotal. I know how , I just mean that as far as I know there aren’t any coupons for those items in the pic that would give that much overage. I am curious if you were able to price match and or use competitor coupons? Either way fantastic job!

    • Rebecca

Wal-mart (at least by me) usually does not lower the value of the coupon to match the price of the item. The floss was probably 99 cents, and there’s $1/1 any Reach floss coupons. I’m guessing the Herbal Essences $1/1 coupon didn’t exclude trial size, I know my Wal-mart has the same Schick razors at $1.99 (there’s a $2/1 coupon for them, exp 7/4), the Men’s Nivea there’s a $3 off coupon for (exp 6/30), if she gets All You magazine, there was a B1G1 coupon for the Women’s. Might’ve used that plus a $1/1 Nivea Women’s body wash. The Colgate Jr, cards, and batteries I’m not sure what the deal was on those. But here’s the coupon database I use:

      https://coupondatabase.dealseekingmom.com/main-database/?

      • fran

I used to use that coupon data base, but now Hip has one on her home page which makes it so much easier. I didn’t know if you were aware of this, Rebecca!

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

that is pretty good…i was amazed as well when i walked out of target last week and didnt even pay not even a cent…total was 0!…..and i got 2 of the scrubbing bubbles extend a spray, 2 of the glade odor sprays, 2 of the clean and clean facial products, 4 of the vanish toilet bowl cleaners , 2 dove deodorants, 2 dove body mists….a total of around 60.00…all for $0…but i have noticed from doing these deals at target and walmart, that it all depends on the cashier….some have let coupons go on through, while others dont

    • R

With the deals using the Target coupons, it say limit only one identical deal per transaction. Have you been able to do more than one of the same deal per transaction? I have never tried it but would love to save the extra trip through the line. Maybe it is a YMMV? I went today and got the cheap Ziplock bags, the 49 cent Glade, free Rolaids, free power sprayer, and some other cheap/free cleaning supplies for $4 and was very happy.

  37. Heather @ My Sweet Savings

Wow! That is super sweet! Way to go, Tonya! ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. Lori

My questions is….how the heck did you get Walmart to even take all those coupons and allow you to walk away only paying .14? Walmart is not a coupon-friendly place as we all know!

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Nice score!!!

  40. Niki

Is that one trip? And how you get so many same coupons? Like the one on Nivea body wash and stuff? You bought the coupons online? Just curious…..I can only get two of the Nivea body wash cause I only have two coupons available.

  41. ronda

It’s funny you mentioned how you have been out of the “coupon grove” lately. I have been feeling the same way! I was just thinking to myself that I have to cut those coupons from the last few weeks. You have been posting great deals and I have been letting them slip by…unlike me lol! This pic getting me very motivated again!!!

  42. danaloveslola

I bet these are some of the coupons used…

    – Rayovac $1.00/1 (6/20 SS)
    – Bicycle cards $1.00/2 (6/20 RP)
    – Schick disposable $2.00 (5/23 SS)
    – Herbal Essence (doesn’t exclude travel size) $1.00/1 (5/16 RP)

    • Amanda F

where did the Rayovac coupons come out at for $1 off of one? I have $1 off 2 from the 6/20 SS

  43. MimmieMarie

Great, now explain how it’s done ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Lucy

Ok I seen her post on facebook:
Tonya DeRose I am still flying high on my savings and I went back for more free colgate and floss I love when they owe me money. Thank you for all you do Collen. Nivea is on roll back for $3 and I still had my $3 coupons. Razors $1.97 and had the $2. Colgate .97 had a $1 off same for the floss. Trave Shampoo was on clearance for .25 and used $1 : ) I purchase Playing cards with overage for my hubby. and had $1 off of them : )

    Hope this helps

  45. Heather

very inspiring! and I’m so happy to see all the positive feedback/comments!!! I’m really new to couponing and very overwhelmed!!! This is really awesome to see that it can be done. Thanks for sharing this!!!

  46. Rebecca L

Hmm, I thought you always had to pay any/all sales tax? Did I miss this key point?

  47. lana2201

    *applause*

  48. dethample

yeah i would really like to know what coupons u used too!!!! please share with us how u did it!!!??????

  49. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

anyone know the colgate coupon??? only one i can find is from the 6/6ss Colgate Advanced Whitening, Total Enamel Strength, Total Advanced Clean or Advanced Fresh Toothpaste 4 oz or larger for $1 off…i don’t think my walmart would take that coupon for the kids junior toothpaste …is there another coupon out there???

  50. Tara

I have felt the same way recently. I cleaned out my coupon binder and cut out the new ones but haven’t had the heart to put the new ones in. That receipt is motivating, but I never seem to have the right coupon at the right time.
