Target: Ripping Off Coupon Users?

In the last few months, I’ve received many emails from Hip2Save readers stating that they have experienced issues redeeming coupons for their full value at Target. Check out some of these emails below…

Have there been people having coupon issues with coupons at Target? I typically have lots of coupons to use there at once (due to your awesome site!!). The person at the register appears to be putting them all through even if they flag otherwise and doesn’t say anything. But it doesn’t seem like I save as much as I should and when I get home to further look at the receipt, it appears some have not gone through. I’ve wondered before, so I’m checking more carefully now. For example, I have my receipt for Target here when I tried to get the BIC deals-got 2 packages of pens, at $0.99 each, and they took off the target deal for $1.00 off but I can’t find where the $1 off manufacturer coupon was taken…I hate to stand there and make a fuss and/or figure it out when I have so many coupons there, so I just wondered if you have had any problems or complaints.

**********************************************************************************

I don’t know if you’ve noticed all the comments regarding coupons being automatically (and incorrectly) adjusted down at Target. (For example, the $5/2 Benadryl coupon adjusting to the price of one of the purchased items rather than the full $5–even when no overage is involved.) Well, I thought it was a glitch, and I stopped to inform the manager of my local Target, but he is standing behind the automatic deduction, which surprises me. Why would I go to Target and get less than face value of a coupon that I can get the full value of at Wal Mart or Kroger?

**********************************************************************************

I was wondering if you are experiencing any of problems using coupons at Target. I keep having my coupons value reduced at checkout by the computer. Seems to be only when you are supposed to save so much on two or three items. The computer is automatically reducing coupon value. I emailed Target and informed that I keep getting ripped off. They apologized and said they would investigate it. I have never checked receipts before and am wondering how much money I have lost when I thought I was saving 🙁

Clearly, this is an issue that is happening at Target stores across the country. In fact, there was recently a CBS news station out of Minnesota that broadcast a story entitled “Target Accused of Ripping Off Coupon Users.” Check out the full video here. Apparently, Target is currently investigating the problem so hopefully, it will be resolved soon. In the meantime, I would encourage all of you to review your Target receipts carefully. If you notice an error, be sure to bring your receipt to the customer service desk. You can also contact Target customer service at 1.800.440.0680 or by completing the form found here.

*There is also an online petition available to sign called “Target Corporation: Fix Your Register Software!” There are currently over 1300 signatures and 5000 signatures are needed to submit the petition. Be aware that when you sign the petition, your full name, location and comment will be displayed publicly. On a side note, I am not familiar with Petition Buzz (the site hosting this Target petition) and not exactly sure how the whole process works, but felt that it was still worth mentioning.

Their system is not coupon friendly at all… thank goodness I’ve had two really nice (maybe tired!) checkers the last two times. They put every coupon through, but not without a fight and beeping from the computer. I keep pretty good track while they’re scanning them, but then in the car before I leave I take out my colored pen and start at the top and check the item off and then the coupon deduction. I do the same thing at my grocery store. It’s the only way I can make sure they’ve done it right, and once everything has a check by it, I’m on my way!

  2. tatum

Yes! I have had SO much trouble with using both target and manufacture coupons at target! Many many times I have not received the proper savings….I actually, shop the target sales a lot less often because of it!

  3. heid

I went back to target because I found I had been charged for 3 items when I only bought 2 – that was 14.49. Then I had a buy i product get another free and they did not give me the item free. I had two of these coupons for different products. When I told them I did not get the item free they told me that I could only use one of them because the coupon said one per purchase. I told them it was two different coupons plus they took the coupon which meant they got the money from the manufacturer, but did not give me the coupon. I had to argue and argue and although I tried to remain calm in the end I raised by voice because he just was not listening. I ended up getting back over 20.00 !!!!!!!! I NEVER get all my coupons scaned when I go there. I try to watch, but it is so hard and when you do catch them not scanning the cahier always said it did and then when you ask her to check she sees it sis not and then she acts like you are a creep. I get so tired of people acting like couponers are a pain in the rear.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Perhaps it is the way you act.

  4. LD

And this is one more reason I dont shop Target and thank goodness my Publix takes Target . I have not used a Target coupon at Target or even gone in one in almost 2 years . But I use at least 2-3 Target coupon’s a week at Publix . I never hear but you will get these for free only one coupon even if it is a manuf. or any of the other hundred things I have heard from Target cashiers and managers. I may not get cheap clothes at Publix but a lot of food is even cheaper for me at Publix thanks to Target lol . And food is more important in my life now than clothes are, plus my sanity lol

    • donna

I couldn’t agree more! I quit shopping Target as well after being confronted with their coupon stupidity! There is an easy solution to this problem…..if only everyone would realize…..QUIT SHOPPING AT TARGET 🙂

      • fairydust

Not just that, but also *tell* them you’re not shopping Target anymore and why. If they hear it enough, maybe they’ll listen.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Target does not need “your” kind of business. There is no purpose to selling when there is no profit for the seller.

  5. kathy

Thankfully, I live in and area that has a plethora of retail choices. My trips to Target have greatly reduced since things have become so complicated.

  6. Kimberly

And I hate their receipts! You can not make sense of them! And I have worked in retail for years.

    • Kelly

I have thought the same thing! I look at it and go, “Wait a minute…where’s the 2nd coupon??” Maybe I should go in there with a pad of paper and a calculator just to be sure. I mean, it stinks, but I really do love target 🙂

    • Cheryl

I totally agree! Very frequently, the register will beep and the cashier has to override it to get it to take my coupons. It makes me question whether or not I am receiving my savings, but when I try to check my receipts, they’re SO confusing!

    • Jamie

I agree! There is no order to where the discounts are listed

  7. Anonymous

    Has anybody ever noticed this??

When I buy something with a coupon at Target, my tax on the item is pre-coupon!! I have never had that happen in any other store!! In one purchase, HALF of my TOTAL was TAX!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love, love, love, love, love Target. Sometimes I go to Target just to go and buy nothing. I think I know more than their employees. I am new to coupons (well a few months) and I will go into Target and pay FULL price, no sale no coupon, before I will step foot into a Walmart. I refuse to shop there. It can be free and I will not go. However, I do not like that Target is the only store where I pay tax on the pre-coupon amount. Er. Meijer is my food store and Target is my everything else store and if I lived near a Target that had a full grocery store I may buy my groceries there too lol.

    • Jane

thats the way it is with everywhere.. read your coupons, doesnt it say must pay applicable sales tax

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Then how come when I got to Meijer and get an item free and buy nothing else I literally pay nothing, not even tax?

        • Anonymous

Yep! My other stores don’t charge me tax either! Or if the item is $1 after coupons and sale, it comes out to be $1.10 with tax.

          • Anonymous

Not $1 + the tax on the original price of $10, which would make the total cost $2.00

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Some states don’t charge tax on food. Is it that you’re buying food items at Meijer and with the coupon you owe nothing not even tax, but at Target you’re buying cleaners or something besides food? If so, that’s why you pay tax. If not, I don’t know.

I know in my state I pay tax on the pre-coupon balance no matter what store I go to (CVS, Walgreens, Publix, etc.) as our food is taxed along with all other items.

          • marcia

some states also charge tax AFTER all sale/coupons … and if the “applicable tax” is on a item costing nothing then it is nothing 😛 wish i lived in one of those states..lol I’m not 100% on this but I think some national chains(target walmart) may just charge tax off the original total regardless of what state.. like i said, not totally sure about that part of it.

    • Lindsay

It varies from state to state. In Pennsylvania, you are only required to pay tax on your total after coupons. Even in such states, not all stores handle it this way because the computer system for the store must be set up a certain way to report back to the state. I know that Rite Aid only charges tax on your total after coupons, but Walmart and Target charge tax on your pre-coupon total. Now I live in New York, and we pay tax on the pre-coupon total. I really miss having the register read $0.00 like it did in PA!!

  8. Janet

Actually it is not true that Target wasn’t aware of this problem until the TV broadcast in MN on August 23rd. People who follow the blog Totally Target have been calling and complaining to Target Corporate for months now about these very same coupon problems.

  9. Deidre

I have also been having issues with Target lately and coupons not scanning through. I am new to my area and the stores I shop at are not super coupon friendly. I have been told if the coupon does not scan they will not take it, they cannot punch coupons in the system anymore, and that I can not use a coupon worth more than the item. The cashiers also pile all the coupons together even if they don’t scan and say that they do. I have had to go to customer service a few times to get things corrected. I hope they fix the issues or educate their cashiers on their coupon policy.

  10. manyhats0211

Im happy to see this finally get light. I have been complaining like crazy. It has even gotten to the point where I will go straight to the customer service desk and have them go and get the cashiers coupon book and verify the coupons I handed her. That takes time out of my day and many people dont have time to do that!!! If you dont check they make money on you!!! I love target but this has made shop alot less at there stores… I hope this is fixed. They really could have just told us we are looking into it and we will notify you or something but making you feel and look crazy isnt okay!

  11. nel

I’ve had issues there too and it is so trying and tiring to try to manage what the cashier is doing and watch my two kids while I get checked out. I’ve spent quite a bit of time at the service desk over these issues, usually by then my toddlers are freaking out and I’m stressed but most times its around $15-20 worth of errors which makes it worth my time.

  12. Amy

This is why I love Publix so much… They’re so much more coupon friendly AND they accept all competitor’s coupons, including Target. I haven’t been to a Target in months, simply because I have no need to…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Then why bother with this site?

  13. Laura

I can’t figure out the Target receipts, so I’m never sure what I’m saving, but my bill always seems to be more than what I’ve figured in my head. Just last week. I bought M&Ms using several $1 off 3, and my coupons only rang up for $.69. The clerk was nice, but had to add $.31 each time she scanned my coupons.

  14. pam

I see a class action suit here-this is fruadulant behavior on targets part.

    • Lindsay

I wondered about the same thing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You do not know what you are talking about. People like you should be barred from the store. You drive prices up for the “normal” consumer.

  15. Betty Alice Szecsei

I have noticed the problem with Target coupons about 2 months ago. I had to take every receipt to the customer service and they gave me the correct coupons back in cash. My store is in Port Orange Florida. I talk to the clerk now and ask her to watch the coupons very carefully as they do not print correctly. They don’t seem to mind and my recent receipts have been correct. They are making a ton of money on our coupons. I am going to check if my publix will take their coupons and try not to shop at target. I would not recommend any Target deals to anyone without warning them to check each and every receipt carefully.

  16. Diane L.

I don’t typically look over my receipts very carefully, but a few weeks ago when I got home from shopping at Target I noticed that I wasn’t given the full value when I used a coupon to buy toilet bowl cleaner. It didn’t seem worth the hassle to drive all the way back there and haggle over 50 cents, so I just let it go. But now I’m wondering how many times something like this has happened and I didn’t notice! !

  17. connie

I have had so many issues with Target and their coupons. For one, I have yet to understand how it is not coupon fraud for them to “adjust down” a coupon. So do they give us the adjusted price and then submit the coupon to the manufacturer for full coupon value? Target is making a profit off of these coupons (not to mention the $.08 per coupon they make anyway) and I don’t get how that is legal?!?

Secondly, at my store in Idaho, I bought some body wash priced at $4.79, gave them a coupon for $4…..and the register adjusted my coupon to $2.74. We checked the price of the body wash again to see if maybe it was on clearance but no. We had no idea why it did this. The cashier was just going to go on about her business and let it be….but I wasn’t! I made them adjust the coupon price to the $4 stated on the coupon.

Here is the problem: #1 the customer often doesn’t notice that they are being overcharged for their coupons because of this “glitch”.
#2 Target saved me $2.74, but is being reimbursed by the manuf for $4.08. That’s a profit of $1.94 for Target.
NOW HOW IN THE HECK CAN THIS BE LEGAL?!?!?!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I always wondered how that worked. If you get a travel size item for 97 cents and they adjust the coupon down, and submit for the full $1 back, aren’t they getting an extra 3 cents each time?

    • Lindsay

      I completely agree!!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

One of my coupons said they get full face value + .12 cents!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You do not know that the store is getting the full value of the coupon from the mfgr., it may just get what was charged to you.

The vast majority of “coupon fraud” is perpetrated AGAINST the retailer and Mfgr. by the consumer. Many of you return your discounted coupon products for full price and get cash that you never really spent …Thus converting coupons into money. THAT IS FRAUD.

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow, just posted about this yesterday, I had 6 coupons that I gave to cashier, but only 5 were on my receipt :(. I never even thought to check before, but there has been plenty of times I left feeling like my savings should have been better! I agree that the receipts are very confusing to read, and understand!

  19. Marnee

One time my cashier at Target got half way through my coupons and I’m assuming got overwhelmed and just stopped scanning them and told me my total. If I hadn’t realized it and stopped her it would have been a huge mess to try and figure out which ones she scanned and didn’t scan. When it comes to dealing with stuff like that, it makes me wonder if this its worth it! It’s becomes a waste of time.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was at Kroger the other week and I had a cart full. I handed the cashier a stack of coupons and while I was dealing with my fussy daughter I noticed that she was grabbing two and only scanning one. Then charged me for organic produce and three boxes of one product that I only bought one. I had it all adjusted at customer service and got the produce and crackers FREE since she rung them up wrong in the first place. I still can’t help but wonder why she did that?? Was she jealous of me?? I’m not stealing.

  20. Alice

I have refused to go to Target but I was to tempted by the playtex deal. So I went in and yep the bogo took it off the 36 count so they refused to let me use my 1.50. When I tried to point out what their system was doing the manager told me I was trying to double coupons. THEN to top it off. Their computer froze up and charged my husbands card and didn’t activate the Target gift card I now have to go in tomorrow since I was on my way to a Labor Day party and couldn’t hang out fixing their mistake. GRRRR I hate them. i started couponing in June and guess what they started messing up then really bad so Target I am boycotting you. I can use your coupons at Bi-lo and Publix so I give up. You don’t want my business I’m not giving it. When Walmart is more coupon friendly than you are you might have a problem Target.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

LoL … They do not want YOUR business!

LoL .. “When WalMart is more coupon friendly” …… That is why they are so successful. They do not mess with your kind of patron.

  21. renea

I’ve almost never shop Target anymore for all these reasons.. the cashiers act like they are doing me a big favor because I use my coupons, and I never seem to get the savings I should, and their receipts are confusing I can never tell if they acctually deducted my coupns! The last time I went there… I ended up returning half the stuff in my cart because the coupons did not deduct the right amounts.. just has not been worth the trouble to shop with Target.

  22. Sandy

Lots of trouble. Our local news actually did a story about it. Target said they weren’t aware of problems 🙂 Yesterday one of Target’s own coupons $1/2 adjusted down to the price of one item. I also had a frustrating situation where I bought 2 Scrubbing Bubbles Spray @ $5.99 each with $5/1 coupons and 2 Scrubbing Bubble Cleaning solutions @ $2.49 each with $.55 coupons. The $5 coupons were attached to the $2.49 product and adjusted down. The $.55 coupons to the $5.99 products. I walked away losing $5.00 worth of coupons! I wrote to the store manager w/ a clear explanation & copy of my receipt. That was the end of July, haven’t received any response.

  23. Kate

Target really does some shady things – I used to work there and I can tell you that cashiers there did not receive any coupon training. That’s kind of a shame since they had a decent program for learning the register. But this doesn’t surprise me in the least because when I worked there, my team and I would work overtime (1.5x pay) but on our paychecks, the overtime amounts would always be screwed up. For instance, if the normal wage was $10 and overtime pay is $15.00/hour, the overtime amount on our checks might be $11.34 one week, then 13.11 the next, etc. but never the full, correct amount. We had to make sure to check our paystubs and then go to HR to correct the wage amounts. Many people didn’t even notice that this was happening. I’m not sure if this was a localized issue or not, but it left me with a really bad taste in my mouth (it’s not like we made much). But really, a computer can reliably calculate 1.5 times a number! Between my experience and my experience with coupons, that makes it seem like they are skimming to make some extra money – which really adds up, as we all know…

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had a frustrating trip to Target yesterday too. Apparently the cashier I had didn’t think it was okay to use the $1 coupons on travel items. I let her know that they should just be able to adjust the price down. The manager was called and she pushed them all through. I’ve never had this problem before. They never used to beep, they used to just take the $1 off and I’d get the overage. After she walked away I heard her say to another employee that I shouldn’t have used them on travel items but she did it anyway. Since when?! They also wouldn’t let me use the coupon to get the 3 travel size first aid kits. The manager ignored the wording of “and/OR” and insisted that I needed to have all of the items listed since it said “and”. She didn’t seem to care about the “or” part. There is one cashier at my store who is GREAT with coupons though. He knows the policy and always asks if you have any coupons or gift cards as soon as he starts scanning items. He even told me that he encourages people to do more than 1 transaction if they are buying something that comes with a gift card. I may be checking the registers BEFORE I shop from now on to see if he’s there. If he’s not then I guess I’ll save my “difficult” coupons until he is there. When he’s there I’ll try to get the travel size first aid kits again. Luckily the store is very close to me and I can pass by it on the way home from work without a problem. It would just be nice if all the cashiers knew as much as the one guy I’ll be looking for from now on does.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was also denied the travel items from the cashier yesterday, and the manager that was called. 🙁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Where do you get off . . . . . . “I let her know that they should just be able to adjust the price down.” Who are you to tell them how to run their business. If you do not like it go elsewhere. Stop trying to pervert the system to save a buck.

  25. Sandy Szydlowski

Always read you receipt before you leave the store. Take any issues to the service desk. I have found help 100% of the time for anything I felt was not right about my order. They have always been extremely helpful and willing to make things right. Then you can leave the store with a smile and not have bad feelings later.

  26. BRITTANY

YES TARGET IS A MESS…BUT I STILL LOVE THEM. I HAVE HAD TO START COUNTING HOW MANY COUPONS I HAVE AND ADD UP THE DOLLAR AMOUNT OF ALL THE COUPONS BEFORE I GET TO THE REGISTER. THEN I HAVE TO OVER MY RECIEPT AND MAKE SURE IT ALL ADDS UP AND IT USUALLY DOES NOT. LAST WEEK I WENT BACK TO THE GUY WHO RANG ME OUT AND EXPLAINED I WAS MISSING 3 COUPONS AND HE ENDED UP JUST GIVING ME 3 BUCKS BACK. SO AT LEAST HE WAS COOL ABOUT IT. BUT I DO HOPE THEY FIX THIS SOON:)

  27. Kristi W.

I went to target today in Farmington Hills, MI to get some “FREE” travel tide, lotion…all the deals posted on “Hip 2 Save” and I was told that I can’t use coupons that exceed the price of the item and that they are no longer allowed to accept manufacturer coupons for travel sized items, even through the coupon has NO exclusions to the size. I had 3 managers all come to the register to ensure the cashier new what they were talking about. I asked them to show me a revised coupon policy after I pulled mine out to prove they should accept the coupons. They were unable to produce a coupon policy, said my policy was outdated since I printed it about a year ago and that since the head manager of the store said NO, that was what they were abiding by. I was so mad, I had them take all my items off except the larger items they didn’t dispute my coupons for. I am very upset with target and do not plan to shop there again for awhile. They will loose a lot of business from all of us “Hip to Savers”.

    • sal

did you go to the target on grand river? Thats where i go and was told the same thing when i brought a travel size item too. This was last week

      • Kristi W

Yes, the one off Grand River. I am going to try to stop at the one in Commerce off of Beck Rd on my way home. I will let you know if I get that same resistance. That Target has always been bad in my book but I have NEVER had that much trouble.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

They may lose business, but not profit.

What type of customer shops with a store’s “printed coupon policy” in their pocket. LOOKING FOR A FIGHT? ….. wow . Perhaps they should ban you from their store. … BOYCOTT YOU.

  28. LINDA

i HAD JUST ONE COUPON YESTERDAY FOR GOLD N PLUMP CHICKEN, AND WHEN i GOT HOME AND LOOKED AT MY RECEIPT THE $1.50 WAS NOT TAKEN OFF, EVEN AFTER THE CASHIER SAID ONLY ONE COUPON TODAY?

  29. Sunny Mulkey

I’ve almost quit going to Target for that reason! Every time I went trying to use coupons I was told that I could not use two of the same coupon in one transaction! It’s funny because I was told this last night at Walmart too! I was soooo frustrated. First they told me that I would have to do a separate transaction for each item because I can’t use more than one coupon in a single transaction because I had to pay sales tax on them. Duh sales tax is still charged for that item if you do them all at once. Then she told me that I couldn’t use my $1/1 off any tide on the trial size because it had to be the one in the picture! Then I was told that they had to be adjusted down because they were 97 cents and not $1.

  30. Gail

I think I’m done with Target after reading these posts and my own experiences. When I’ve found mistakes with the coupons and gone to customer “no-service”, they actually tell me to go back to the cashier and ask for all of my coupons back and bring them to cust. no service!
There is always a new, long line there, try doing that! This is in Marietta, GA and Acworth, GA by the way. I have found Publix, Walgreen’s, CVS and Riteaid to be the best and most educated and customer friendly with regard to coupons.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am sure you will wear out your welcome at those places too.

  31. Mel

I quit shopping at Target for this very reason. The coupons never deducted properly- they would beep like it was accepted but it wouldn’t take of the $$ value of the coupon and I always found the cashiers and managers to be uninformed. One manager degraded me when I was trying to use a target store coupon with a manufactures Q for the same item. She acted like I was committing sin. I have since taken my business to the drug and grocery stores with much better success and the same end product.

  32. JennyB

I literally will hand them my coupons one at a time because this is such an issue. I tell the cashier, I am handing these over one at a time not b/c I think you can’t handle it but b/c your computer has waaaaay to much trouble with it and I want to make sure I get my coupons to scan and reduce the right amount. They won’t waste my money away…… I will just waste their time lol I don’t really care, I want my deals and if that is how I need to go about it then so be it. If they have a problem ask for a manager, they will do it how the customer wants for sure then! =D

    • Alice

The manager is who told me I was doubling coupons and wouldn’t change it. BUT I spoke to a very very nice guy at 800# tonight who fixed my gift card not being activated so that was lovely.

  33. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How do you double check your receipts when the cashier keeps the coupons? I usually have too many coupons to keep track of. I usually leaving target wondering if my total was correct- that’s a bad feeling!

    • Kim T

I have been writing my deals down and total them then subtract my coupons . Sometimes I do more than one transaction to moniter if my coupons are scanning and I’m being charged correctly.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

“I usually have too many coupons to keep track of.”
Well doesn’t that say it all. If you are unable to keep track of your own transaction then why do you expect the cashier to do it for you?

  34. Kimberly

This has happened to me also at Target. The register doesn’t make that funny noise that some of them do when it rejects a coupon. What I do is I watch my balance as my coupons are being scanned to make sure that its decreasing.

  35. Nicole

yeah, i had the same prob at target with the benadryl coupons, it turned it into a b1g1 instead of a $4 off

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I have gotten home so many times just to see that many of my coupons didn’t even go through!!!! It is so frustrating (I can’t stand there looking at the register like a hawk since I usually have my 3 kids with me)…I get so angry when I check my receipt, what’s the point of having coupons?!?

  37. Elaine

On my occasional visits to Target, I have had coupon problems, as well. Fortunately, the cashiers have usually been friendly and helpful, but the errors are frustrating. Like everyone else, I don’t want to spend my time, effort and ink only to miss out on the savings.

  38. marcia

I rarely shop at target since they aren’t conveniently located for me 🙂 but i have had this happen a couple times and have SOME coupon issue in nearly every trip.

HOWEVER the last 4 times i’ve been to walmart I have had coupons automaticly adjust to random numbers. like the $5/5 kraft q adjusted to $1.86. my free tropicana one rang in at $1 something and there have been many others those are just 2 obviously messed up examples

  39. Shay

This is the first time Target has been accused of ‘scamming’ people. I remember watching Good Morning America awhile back, they were showing which stores had the most price ‘mistakes’ (item priced low on counter but rings up much higher) and Target had the most ‘errors’. At the time I loved shopping at Target so much I gave them the benefit of the doubt until I started having tons of problems with my coupons. First, I have to argue with the cashier and/or manager over nearly every coupon. Then, when I finally thought things were getting better, I realized many of my coupons weren’t being taken off at all. A month ago I noticed my total was off but I couldn’t figure it out just by looking at the receipt (what is up with their receipts?), finally I noticed the cashier skipped five $1.00 coups. Next trip, the cashier seemed to be pushing all my coups thru, totally seemed off again, he had completely skipped eight coups. WTH!! That was it for me especially since there are four coupon friendly Wal-Greens within reach and I like the RR specials way better. So, Target, see ya wouldn’t wanna be ya.

I’m SOOOO glad I am not the only one that has had this problem. About a year ago, I finally stopped trying to get the coupon deals everyone was having so much success with at Target! Everytime I caught a mistake the cashier made while still at the register, they always had some excuse why I couldn’t complete the transaction. Then on transactions that went through (or so I thought) when looking at the receipt after leaving the store, I did not get credit for coupons I had used. I won’t shop at Target unless I absolutely have to!!!!

Luckily I haven’t had this issue, but I’m really tired of them having the items with bonus travel size products attached and my Q’s beeping. One cashier tried to tell me it wasn’t valid on that product. I told them there were not exclusions and that’s ALL they had on the shelf. I guess I’m lucky here and they just push them through without much problem.

This has happened to me and when I took my receipt to the store’s customer service, they said that they couldn’t do anything about it. I will be contacting corporate customer service.

I have had so many issues as well. For instance, I tried to use several $2/2 shout coupons and it only took off $1.00! Urrrg! I didnt notice it until i was home. I went back and couldnt get the manager to understand that the computer was wrong!! I went through the line again with more of the same coupons and caught it. The cashier fixed it for me. Frustrating!

I tried to use to $4 razor blade coupons, and it only took off $.98 and $0.00!!! And the razors were $8 each! Then I said I didn’t want to continue with the transaction, and they refused to give me my high value coupons back! They wouldn’t even try to input it in manually!!

Target should hire responsible, caring cashiers, not teenagers who don’t give a d***. I find that with the adult cashiers, when an error comes up, they do everything in their power to make sure the coupons go through. The young cashiers are awkward and completely useless from my experience.

You seem like a bit%$. Perhaps the “kids” just treat you like you act. You sound really rude (from your post).

I live in MN and go to the same Target this woman on the news complained about. I usually don’t use coupons there but at other Targets I have and have not had any issues. But most o my couponing is put to use at CVS and the like. Interesting that you all have had so many issues. I love Target! Always will!

I made that comment about Target months ago! I noticed it and asked if anyone else was noticing it to. I noticed that all my coupons were not being used or the right amount was not being taken off.

i will have to check my receipts better, i am not aware of this happening. but i do have this problem alot with my local walmart. it will just give random amounts and they will not do anything to change it. it is rare that i go to walmart with coupons because of this.

Has anyone had issues with mobile coupons? I used one for the first time, and it wouldn’t scan. Finally it did, and it showed up as $0.00. My extremely nice cashier simply put in the value of the mobile coupon and was very apologetic that it didn’t work. That was the only time I’ve had a nice experience using coupons at Target.

I thought it was just me!! For one, their receipts are hard to read. Sometimes a coupon comes off the top, right under the product and sometimes it comes off the bottom. I first started noticing that I was paying more that I expected to during the Scrubbing Bubbles deals earlier in the summer.

I have had many problems with Target coupons in the past so I rarely shop there now and when I do I am watching like a hawk. I am so lucky to have a Publix that accepts Target coupons and they even double .50 Target coupons. In my opinion altering the amount of a coupon is coupon fraud they should adjust their sales price instead since they do get the total amount of the coupon back. I used to love Target….
