Target: Ripping Off Coupon Users?

In the last few months, I’ve received many emails from Hip2Save readers stating that they have experienced issues redeeming coupons for their full value at Target. Check out some of these emails below…

Have there been people having coupon issues with coupons at Target? I typically have lots of coupons to use there at once (due to your awesome site!!). The person at the register appears to be putting them all through even if they flag otherwise and doesn’t say anything. But it doesn’t seem like I save as much as I should and when I get home to further look at the receipt, it appears some have not gone through. I’ve wondered before, so I’m checking more carefully now. For example, I have my receipt for Target here when I tried to get the BIC deals-got 2 packages of pens, at $0.99 each, and they took off the target deal for $1.00 off but I can’t find where the $1 off manufacturer coupon was taken…I hate to stand there and make a fuss and/or figure it out when I have so many coupons there, so I just wondered if you have had any problems or complaints.

**********************************************************************************

I don’t know if you’ve noticed all the comments regarding coupons being automatically (and incorrectly) adjusted down at Target. (For example, the $5/2 Benadryl coupon adjusting to the price of one of the purchased items rather than the full $5–even when no overage is involved.) Well, I thought it was a glitch, and I stopped to inform the manager of my local Target, but he is standing behind the automatic deduction, which surprises me. Why would I go to Target and get less than face value of a coupon that I can get the full value of at Wal Mart or Kroger?

**********************************************************************************

I was wondering if you are experiencing any of problems using coupons at Target. I keep having my coupons value reduced at checkout by the computer. Seems to be only when you are supposed to save so much on two or three items. The computer is automatically reducing coupon value. I emailed Target and informed that I keep getting ripped off. They apologized and said they would investigate it. I have never checked receipts before and am wondering how much money I have lost when I thought I was saving 🙁

Clearly, this is an issue that is happening at Target stores across the country. In fact, there was recently a CBS news station out of Minnesota that broadcast a story entitled “Target Accused of Ripping Off Coupon Users.” Check out the full video here. Apparently, Target is currently investigating the problem so hopefully, it will be resolved soon. In the meantime, I would encourage all of you to review your Target receipts carefully. If you notice an error, be sure to bring your receipt to the customer service desk. You can also contact Target customer service at 1.800.440.0680 or by completing the form found here.

*There is also an online petition available to sign called “Target Corporation: Fix Your Register Software!” There are currently over 1300 signatures and 5000 signatures are needed to submit the petition. Be aware that when you sign the petition, your full name, location and comment will be displayed publicly. On a side note, I am not familiar with Petition Buzz (the site hosting this Target petition) and not exactly sure how the whole process works, but felt that it was still worth mentioning.

My target always automatically adjusts! I like it this way, no fuss at the end! Why get money taken off for more than you’re purchasing? Seems kinda shady to me

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How is it shady when Target gets the full face value of the coupon from the manufacturer after I leave the store. Now, that is shady.

      • Holly

        Agreed Desiree.

      • Anonymous

I guess I didn’t think about it that way. I thought that the computer records how much it takes off and where the coupon is from, and that gets sent to the manufacturer’s.

    • Audrie

That isn’t always the case. Many times it adjusts the coupon down when it’s NOT even over the amount. A great example is the 5/2 Benadryl items.

    • Nikki

There is nothing shady about it. I think you are misinterpreting the problem. For example: Product x costs $1. You have a coupon for $2 off 2 Product x. Therefore it should be free. Unfortunately, the register at Target would automatically adjust because 1 Product x costs $1 and reduces the coupon to $1 leaving you to pay for the 2nd Product x. Plus when you have a several or a whole bunch of items like this, it leaves the couponer to pay a lot instead of a little. Hence the problem.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Even when there is no overage the machine still does not take off the right amount. Example: I bought two portfolio folders that were on sale for .50 each, I had a $1/2 coupon and it only took off .50 even though I was buying two. So what they had to do was scan the coupon twice. Which is fine but if you are not watching the screen then you and the cashier are going to miss it. The only coupons I have had problems with is the coupons where you have to buy more than one item.

      • Joy

Target isn’t the only store that adjusts coupons down so you don’t get overages. Price Chopper does the same thing.

  2. M

I have also had this happen. When I checked over my receipt I swear I should have had more coupons, like when I have 10 items & 10 coupons. Glad I am not alone & they are aware of the problem!

  3. Amber B

ok and here i was thinking i was crazy! it was my first time couponing so i thought i just didnt do it right……i thought i shouldve saved much more, well now i know to watch them like a hawk~

  4. Kat

I have thought all these same things every time i’ve gone through the check out line. I always think to myself..I thought i should have saved more?! I’m glad to know that i’m not lossing my mind. What can we do about this? Do we all need to send letters? Call someone? Or stop shopping there till its fixed? Whats the best way to help them get this fixed for everyone?

  5. Seidina

I’ve noticed this happening and now check my receipt very carefully before leaving the store. There is very rarely an instance where I don’t have to go to the customer service desk to have them fix a problem. Thankfully, I’ve never had a problem getting the problem adjusted, but it takes forever because they have to go get your coupons and compare them to your receipt which takes a long time. The last time alone, I was shorted $5 of coupons….so if that happened every time I went, it would add up fast.

  6. Serafina

YES! I have had this issue at Target and my local grocery chain, FoodMaxx. They must use the same software!

I fully understand it was so that they wouldn’t give overage, but the glitch is now that ALL coupons that are buy more than 1 item and get xxx$/off adjust down to the price of ONE item, which is NOT right!

I have tried various cashiers and methods when I know these problems are going to crop up and have generally had HORRIBLY FRUSTRATING results. Several cashiers at Target AND FoodMaxx have told me they would NOT give me the full value of the coupon, even though I explained multiple times why it was valid and that I would take my business elsewhere. Supervisors and/or managers are called in and NOT ONE was sympathetic at either one of those stores. I hate getting treated like a criminal just for wanting their computer system to work correctly and give me the correct coupon value. This is very disheartening. Both stores need to beef up their consumer relations! I mean Target was one of my favorite stores. Now, I have to be nervous I’m going to be cheated out of the value of my coupons. I’ll just shop more at my friendly drugstores that LIKE couponers if this continues. Unfortunately, this issue has been a problem for several months and I have not seen any education with the staff progress and/or modifications to fix it. I sure hope they do!

  7. Cathy

i had something adjusted down automatically even though the purchase price was more than the value of the coupon as well! It seemed weird to me. It was for $4 off the purchase of 2 nivea. I bought 2 for $2.99 each, and the registered adjusted it to a $2.99 coupon. Not right!

  8. Melissa

I’ve actually experienced this as well! And when I said something to the cashier they said they couldn’t do anything about it. I haven’t been making my weekly trips to target since then! I hate thinking Im going there to save money and end up getting ripped off!

  9. Lisa

I always check my receipt now, because it has happened to me quite a few time recently. I always go back to customer service to get my difference!

  10. Stefanie

I have had this happen too! My plan of action has been to sit down with my kids in the cafe area after I check out and go over my receipt. I honestly get my phone calculator out and go through it while they munch on popcorn. Although I will admit that recently when they were $1 over by missing a coupon I went to complain and the CS desk was 5 people thick – I just decided it was worth it w/two grumpy boys for my buck. UGh though!!

  11. Kristen

I’ve been wondering about this issue myself. I’ve only had 2 cases where I thought the coupons weren’t going through right but just so happened to have the same cashier both times. So I thought maybe it was an issue with that particular person. Now I know what is really going on. Thanks for posting about this!!

  12. Tracy

I’m glad we’re talking about this. One time I went in with multiple BOGO hair conditioner coupons and that turned into a huge fiasco because they said one per purchase but they treated it like one per transaction.

Last time I went with those coupons for the one free 6oz bag of dog food. They seemed to be going through fine but then as I looked at the screen I noticed that they were saying $0.00 and nothing was coming off my total. I stopped the cashier to bring it to her attention and got a “yeah”. It turned into a mess because she didn’t want to really do anything about it. So I said that why doesn’t she just cancel the whole thing and I will go over to the service desk to check out. She didn’t want to do that either. I told her that the coupon clearly said it was free and that if it wasn’t going to be free then I didn’t want them. Well, then she said that she could enter it by hand.

I came home so frustrated that I didn’t want to shop with coupons at Target ever again. I’m really frustrated. I’m having these problems with coupons I cut directly out of the Red Plum and SmartSource. They aren’t printed off the internet or stacked with Target coupons and I’m having trouble.

  13. Rhonda

Ditto & Ditto! I thought I was too old (51 🙂 )and just not fast enough to keep up with the little girl. I mentioned that I wondered if they were going through and she snapped THAT’S HOW WE DO IT!! And I thought then well that may be how you do it but it’s not WORKING!

  14. Christine

This happens to me almost every single time I go to Target.

  15. Anonymous

I guess I didn’t think about it that way. I thought that the computer records how much it takes off and where the coupon is from, and that gets sent to the manufacturer’s.

  16. lcp518

Several times now I have had this problem at Target. The worst thing is that the customer service area staff don’t understand their receipts. Last month I didn’t think Target had applied all my coupons so I went right to customer service and asked them to explain the receipt. They kept telling me the amount charged for the few items I purchased was tax. I only spent about $9.00…I expected the amount to be around $5.00. 3 people in customer service told me it was TAX. I told them that if they were charging me $4.00 in taxes that I wanted to return the items for a full credit. In the end, one of the coupons was not applied (I questioned the casher at the time, because the register beeped – but he told me it was applied). I THINK THEY BELIEVE WE ARE STUPID…,,, I THINK THEY ARE CRAZY ??????

They also post prices under items that are incorrect, or the system doesn’t know the correct price. The campbell’s soup has been advertised at $1.50/can/cup…but the system is charging $1.79. The first time I didn’t find the error until I got home. But 2 times since they continue to advertise the $1.50 price but try to charge $1.79. I now have the cashier correct the price.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i agree just happened to me last week, prices in sytums not match price on shelf… Watch the screen carefully as they ring ur things up. (btw it happens at walmart too!)

  17. Mallory

I’ve had all of the same problems plus more! It had driven me to the point of not going to Target anymore. My Target will not accept a coupon if it beeps at all. Even if the cashier agrees I have the exact product and should be able to use it, they just hand it back to me and say sorry. When I ask to speak to the manager about it, the manager says the same thing. They also won’t accept a coupon on the expiration date, so if the coupon says expires 6/30/10, they will only accept it until 6/29. I even called corporate about the issues there and they will not help me at all. They said they called the store, but the store never returned the call so they dropped the issue! Target has quickly gone from my favorite place to go, to my last option.

    • Julie

I’ve had the same thing happen (a coupon beeps even though my coupon is valid and I have the correct product) and the cashier hands it back and says sorry and it’s so frustrating! You spend all that time clipping them in an effort to save money and they deny you a perfectly legitimate savings. Now, I try to only go to Target for AWESOME deals (like the $1/1 produce item), and even then I did the majority of my shopping at Walmart and only bought the things at Target that had a store coupon AND mfr coupon. I’ve also learned which cashiers will go ahead and push the coupon through anyways and always wait in their lines. I’m sorry that your Target sounds so uncooperative towards couponers.

  18. cheri p.

I have this happen alot especially when I have higher value coupons or when I have a Target coupon & a manuf. coupon. I just thought it was my local Target because I have not heard anyone else complain about this. Alot of times when I do notice, I am at home already so I don’t go back because my nearest one is 15 miles away. It’s hard to know what coupons were taken off because of the way the coupons that were deducted are printed on the receipt. Some are under the items I purchased while the other coupons are at the bottom. I always think my total is higher than it should be. From now on, I am going to write how many and the value of all my coupons before shopping there and also check my reciept before I leave. I can’t wait to have time later to read all the comments about this.

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I suggest Collin call the CIC and ask what their clients (manufacturers, including P&G) think of this.

    • Tracey

Ok I’m slow today who or what is the CIC and why should Collin have to complain to them.

I’ve already decided that next time I have an issue I am emailing Target corporate so far I have just gone to customer service (3 times) and got my money for the coupons that weren’t deducted.

I’m not trying to antagonize you Ali but couldn’t you contact the CIC that you are asking her to contact.

  20. dana

I had several times where the market pantry bread rang up for more than the shelf price. The last time,I had Target web coupons for it and it rang up even higher but I didnt notice til
    I was leaving.

  21. Julie

I’ve also left Target thinking that I spent more than I thought I should have, but when there’s 3 other people behind me, I’m trying to put my groceries in the cart and don’t always get to examine the coupons going through. Now I know, I do need to check my receipt better. In fact, yesterday, I used 4-$1/1 produce items, and it didn’t even deduct correctly. The register automatically took off the price of 1 POUND of produce, rather than 1 dollar. Example: bananas were $0.44/lb and I bought 2.25 lbs worth which equaled right at $1. The cash register only deducted $0.44 even though I had bought the entire dollar’s worth of bananas. Luckily, the cashier caught it and fixed it immediately, so it wasn’t a hassle this time. I have shopped at Target when the cashier wouldn’t adjust the coupons even though they were legitimate.

    • Molly

I had the same problem with the produce coupon today, but unfortunately I didn’t catch it until later. I purchased $.70 of bananas and the coupon only took off $.55.

  22. Josie

When I shop Target I have to go through two “checkouts”:
#1 is when I buy my stuff
#2 is when they have to fix the mistakes they made in the first transaction.

What I dislike so much about Target, other than the above, is that the receipts are so dang hard to understand!!!!

    • robyn

TOTALLY agree about the receipts. they are ridiculous!

  23. JJscupper

I have to say, the Target in Ocala, Fla. has been stepping up recently. I had a wonderful cashier that listened to me explain how to price down a coupon for 2 items, so they are still both free, cause otherwise I am not buying them. Took her awhile to figure it out, but she got it. Bless her fingers, she had to manually enter about 20 different items. (coupon procrastinator I am…)

However, I thought they had missed some. Turns out sometimes the manu Q is pushed up to the item and it will state- 1$ off, and sometimes when it is a store Q it will be down below. And sometimes they are switched, and sometimes they are together. This makes it very difficult to see if your coupons have actually been taken off. I suggest watching the pc screen while the cashier puts them in. And count how many coupons you have before checking out. It is more hassle, and I still don’t like to shop there, but at least in central Florida they are getting better. Not great…but better.

  24. Lisa

I have had issues at Target and sometimes even Walmart. Now I hand them my coupons in a few stacks at a time, like all the $1.00 ones together and all the small change ones together. It doesn’t help with the adjusting down but I can keep track if they don’t put them on or not.

    • corrie

this is a really good idea. Thanks:)

  25. Mareolle

Thanks Collin, I will be checking my receipts more carefully too.

Last Friday they went through fine but I did not use Target printable coupons. I have a Mac and since I have updated Safari and Google, Target coupons would not print on my printer for a long time. I just checked recently today and it is now working. At Target they updated their system for printing out coupons so I have been unable to print there using the printer at Target Franklin, WI. and they have not updated their print activator plug – in. it yet .

**** We usually count the number of coupons we have and add up the value before, and what we should end up paying before we check out. Time consuming I agree but it sometimes helps with the frustration later on if we got the right credit for coupons. That way its easier to figure out right away if we got the discount if we miss watching the clerk scanning them. Targets receipts can be a little confusing how the coupons are taken out. Some of the discounts are figured in the price and some show up like coupons. Frustrating…Thanks Collin you are so appreciated for all the savings and tips you have brought to our Family.
Called customer relations and was put on hold for a very long time. Here is the number if anyone is in the mood to listen to free statically distorted classical music……
    1- 800-440- 0680 Targets Customer Service……..

…20 min. later still listening to the………………………..more music…………….Oh I got connected…….yip pee……….to India and they connected me to the wrong department………..10 min. later ………..I got to customer service……. Now there checking on the problem …..now there connecting me to the client support center……… TA DAH finally maybe almost probably it may be taken care of …..
Believe it or not I really do like Target.

    • MAREOLLE

From what I found out their kiosk printers are not working at certain stores for coupon printing. The printers work for other purpose though. They do not know when they will be fixed either. Any one else having problems printing out their coupons at the Target stores?

      • laura

They stopped a long time ago when Target began limiting the number of each coupon you can print.

  26. Denise

I totally agree…I don’t comprehend the Target reciept!!! It seems to be done in a way to confuse the consumer not help. I have stood there and watch them do the coupons and sometimes I see o.oo and I am like did the coupon go thru or not and since it may or may not appear by the itm in questions I have no idea.

I just want to see the reciept and then the coupons because it need be I am more than willing to snap pics of all the coupons I use at Target to double check them when I get home….hey, it would be a math lesson for my homeschooled kids and a lesson in business ethics.

    • laura

I watch the total to see if it changes.

  27. Michelle

I’ve been having these same problems for awhile and when I contacted corporate they said to speak to the manager on duty but when I do that they never seem to understand how to fix or act like it’s my fault the scotch tape deal was a prime example. I have since started only buying a few items at a time so that I can better watch the totals.

  28. Ann

I used the $1 off produce coupon today on a bunch of 6 bananas priced at 19 cents each. The register took off only 19 cents! – The price of ONE banana!

    • Lynn

Yes! That has happened to me too!!!

    • Christylee

Ann I am sorry that happened to you but your post actually made me lol! I cannot belive that somebody would want to waste their time going to Target to save 19 cents? What is with corporate? Hope you were able to snag some other good deals that day tho?!

  29. Lieca Nickel

Yes it has happended to me whereas I have a coupon indicated buy 2 items get $2.00 off and then when coupon is scanned it only deducts $1.27 which is the price of one item…I usually point it out and if they don’t make the appropriate deduction I don’t buy the product. This is happening more and more and it seems very wrong that a company like Target cannot believe in the customer. I have contacted the customer service a few times and they stand buy there systems and cashiers not the customer.

  30. katie

I had this happen when I used the $1 off a produce item (target coupon) and it took off the amount per pound not the $1. So my $1 off became .57 off. Also I had a coupon for buy 3 and get $1 off, well they were priced at .95 each and it only took off that amount, it was only .5 and I wasn’t going to argue over that – but that will add up!

    • fldukes

The same produce thing happened to me today…see post below.

  31. Lindsay

Target receipts are very difficult to understand, so it makes it very hard to go back and check to make sure that everything went through correctly.

  32. Megan

I’ve had this experience at Target too, both times it was with Vocal Point coupons, so I thought maybe the coupons were actually coded wrong. The first time I let it go, but the second time I went to customer service to get it corrected, and they willingly fixed it (once they found someone who knew how to do it that is).

I spend a lot of time planning shopping trips so that I can get in and out quickly, so stopping at customer service is such an annoyance to me, by the time I get checked out my toddler has had enough! I agree that Target receipts are confusing, I find Safeway to be worse though.

    • Erin

After a *store manager* told me that I could never get more than the value of *one* item on an $X/2+ coupon, I contacted Target corporate. Both people I spoke with insisted it was a problem with the coding of the coupon and urged me to contact the manufacturers. I did, and so happened to speak with a woman at Smart Ones who used to code coupons. She explained to me how to read coupon UPCs (Collin did a post on this as well), and I found a list of the codes for the value of coupons. Next time this happened, with the $1/2 Mead Five Star folders, I pointed it out to the cashier, who said she couldn’t do anything about it, and she as much as said that she thought Target was ripping customers off. Interestingly, I also had a .50 Target Chef Boyardee coupon, and she pointed out that I would get it free, even though it cost .89. Sure enough, she was right. Needless to say, I kept the Chef Boyardee, but not the folders 😉 I left a message with the Target customer service person I spoke with last. No response. Called again and spoke with someone else, and it was a completely different story–they understand my frustration and they are aware of the problem. If I have future problems, they said to call from the store and they would rectify. Great, but what a pain. Hope they fix this soon. This is why I use only a couple coupons at a time at Target.

      • Erin

Oh, the point being that the coupons weren’t coded incorrectly at all, since I now check them.

  33. fldukes

I am not a huge Target shopper. I typically go around once/month and have always been able to rectify my receipt with my coupons in the past. However, TODAY (how appropriate that this post appears today) I used my $1 off produce. Instead of $1 off of my bananas, it gave me $0.69 off…the price of 1 pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRAZY!! Since when has $1 off ever been equivalent to 1 lb off??????????????????????????? Of course, I didn’t see until I got home because I was in a hurry, and I don’t really see making a fuss over 31 cents. But just a word of warning on the produce Qs.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The produce coupon is all kinds of messed up.

So, if it’s really going by the pound…what will happen if I buy a pound of asparagus?? It should ring up for more than $1 off 😉

      • katie

yeah I think with the produce coupon – make sure that the item you are buying is more than $1 a pound

  34. Becky

The last time I used a coupon at Target, the cashier scanned it and it didn’t work. She acted like she punched something in, but my total didn’t change! Really??? I also had a cashier get so put out with me for using coupons (she had to get help from the manager) that she basically threw my bags at me as I left!

  35. Lynn

That is exactly why I shop Target 2 or 3 times a week. I only use a few coupons each time so I can track it better.

    • Erin

Yup. That’s really the easiest/best way to handle coupons at Target. Although I did run into a really great cashier last trip. I had the feeling I was using too many coupons, but I decided to risk it. She told me to let her know if I noticed any not scanning, and she was nice enough to give me the full $2 on a Glade coupon for an item that was clearanced to $1.48. Despite watching carefully, one coupon simply didn’t deduct. Went back in, and another cashier/CSM gave me my money back and complained about how the registers no longer beep if a coupon doesn’t go through.

  36. Chandra

I used to work at Target…and then I quit. I am glad I did!
Haha, just thought I’d throw that out there. 😉

  37. stormb23

I have had a ton of problems with the Target Store closest to me. I USE TO go to Target ONCE a week, and every time I have had problems with my coupons and with the management. I had a $3 off coupon that rung up $.97 off and they refused to adjust it, so I had them take the item off. I was in line to check out 10 minutes before the store closed at 10:00 pm and did not leave until 10:41pm… I did not have that many items. I was accused of being a security risk because I questioned every coupon that did not ring up right. The cashier was rude and hateful and so was the manager on duty. I have never been talked to so disrespectfully in my life… my kids have never talked to me the way the employees at Target did. I called CS the next morning and they just said “Thank you for your call”

I talked to CS manager 2 or 3 times and each time they do not seem to care that their coupons are not ringing up correctly or seem to care that their employees are being rude to customers when it is not our fault their system is malfunctioning.

Hopefully everyone is calling and complaining instead of just letting out their frustrations out on here. Target needs to know we are not happy and that is not acceptable and they will not get my business anymore and until all the problems are taken care of! I have asked for the executives to contact me personally and each time I am told they do not contact customers. I do not know what else to do besides stop shopping at Target!!!

    • donna

YOU GOT IT!!!! That’s the ONLY solution!!! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!

  38. Tiffany

I noticed this problem and started writing down each product price and the coupon because I was noticing a huge difference in what I should have been paying. In one trasaction they did not scan almost $10 worth of coupons. I then emailed target and they fixed that issue, but when it happened again and I emailed them, they never took any action to resolve the issue or even send me email about it.

  39. Christylee

I recently went to Target and had an issue with 3 cents! The Tide 1 load trial size wax .97 and the coupon was for $1 off any 1 tide laundry. ALL the managers said they cannot reduce the coupon as that would be coupon fraud on their end? I pulled out their Corprorate store coupon policy and showed them all that it clearly states on their policy that they will adjust the coupon down. NO BUDGE! I was so mad, they said well if we adjust it down for you then when we submit it to tide they will give us the full dollar! I thought wow they are right on with the coupon fraud thing but then I thought they have pens and can write on the coupon 97 cents? Just a thought!

  40. donna

Why would anyone return to a store that has ripped them off more than twice? Once….you go to CS and get it fixed, follow up with a call to corporate to report the problem. Twice?? It might “possibly” be another “mistake”….so okay fix it and report the problem again. Rip me off a third time?? I don’t think so….you’ve lost my business. My time is WAY more valuable than to spend it educating a clerk on their own employer’s policies or standing in line at CS to correct mistakes and/or making a useless call to corporate in hopes of changes that will never happen. I can honestly say I am much happier shopper/couponer after eliminating Target. 🙂

YES..lots of issues with Target and coupons. If a cashie knows how to make them work properly we’re fine OR I head to the service desk for adjustments right away. I have stopped coupon shopping there just like Walgreens…neither are worth the trouble!

I HATE Target as of late. Does anyone remember those Vanish B1G1 Manufacturer Coupons, and then Target also had a B1G1? I have access to at least 10 computers with family/friends and I had that many coupons and was thrilled! My total went from over $300, to less then $80 owed. I also had those Facebook Armor All $2 Coupons and then the Target $3/2 Armor All Coupons and bought tons of the stuff. I have to drive over 30 miles to get to a Target so I do a lot at once. I drove home, found I was shorted about $50 in coupons (something I should have noticed, but I had so much I just wasn’t sure)! I called the store, talked to the manager and was told I would have to return within 7 days to go through my receipts/coupons, as they would save all the coupons from that register until I got back. I drove back the next day, and guess what? I even had the mangers name, the coupons were gone and I was told my only option was to return the items. I get screwed, time, money (ink, gas, buying papers) and then get no product for it? I even called the Target Customer Service main center, talked to someone that would research it with the receipt ID, but didn’t do jack. Target gets full reimbursement for all the manufacturer coupons, yet they adjust them down or sometimes take off NOTHING! Now Targets machines, the other day I had a $2/4 Chunky Soups, it only took off $1.25. I mean, WTF? I’ve had enough, I hope there is class action against Target and those with proof of receipts can get some type of reimbursement. It’s only fair, Target may you be charged with FRAUD! I better go, as I could go on and on for hours. I’m almost to the point of giving up with coupons; those that are good at it sometimes are treated like criminals at the register (at most stores), when what needs to happen is training to all employees from trainers that actually know how to handle and accept coupons!

I went to Target in Smyrna, TN and tried to use one of the Target Mobile Coupons. It rang in there (after quite a few tries of scanning it in), but took nothing off (the cashier somehow didn’t notice this).
The cashier had to call a manager and after approximately three minutes later, they had to manually punch in a $3 coupon. I only had four items and just the one coupon. Its time-consuming when their computer system isn’t working correctly. It took about five minutes to check out when it should have taken about a minute. I’m glad I had such a short order or else I might not have noticed the coupon didn’t take anything off.

I’ve stopped shopping at Target until they fix some of their issues. it’s just not worth the hassle to me. There are other stores to shop at that are coupon friendly and don’t rip you off.

Everytime I shop at Target I have to go to the costumer service because half of my coupons dont even register when they scan them. Then they have to get all my coupons from the register and then give me the money amount of the coupon. It sucks so I rarely shop at Target.

Target is really like the Russian Roulette of coupons. It really all depends on who you get. Our last trip we tried to use the $3/3 J&J coupon and had 3 J&J First Aid kits at $0.97 – the cashier actually said the reason why it didn’t go through was because we didn’t buy all the items in the picture. We’ve also noticed that Target seems to have a sophisticated software system that gives consumers the least cost savings. Example, when we bought a bunch of scrubbing bubbles products, when they were offering the $5 gift card, and you had to buy 3 and we also applied other coupons as well it took us awhile to figure out, but the Target system would switch the coupon to be applied for the biggest cost advantage to the store. It’s a little hard to explain, but I’m guessing others have been duped before.

The past 3 months I’ve had several occasions where the full value of the manuf coupon was not applied. I consider that fraud on the part of Target, which will be refunded the full coupon value. Collin, work you magic like you did with Wal-mart! 🙂 Let’s all start an email campaign to Target!

I bought 3 items to use my $3/3 items coupon. They only took off $1. I haven’t been back.

I actually had no problems at my Target this week, but my Wal-Mart just recently told me they stopped taking internet BOGO coupons b/c they are supposedly getting ripped off. I had a coupon for a buy one, get one free pepsi 2-liter and they wouldn’t take it. I was a bit shocked and not too happy with Wal-Mart.

If all these stores keep changing their policies, and keep screwing up, there won’t be any place for us to shop!

Since the $/2 coupons are only taking off for one item, why not buy just the one item?…there’s a thought!

Always, always, always take a few minutes to check over your receipt, before you leave the store. It’s better if you can resolve the problem right then and there.
