I want to get these, but my husband balks at the catches: 18% gratuity added, minimum purchase… and just using a gift certificate at a restaurant. Can people who have used these tell me how it has gone for them?

My husband was skeptical at first as well, but I snagged a $10 off of a $15 purchase to the North Ridge Pub here in Raleigh NC. We went to dinner and each had an entree for $7.50 and ordered water. Our tab ( with tax and gratuity) came to around $17 then we got to minus the $10 certificate. So our meal was $7 tip and tax included. It was almost like a buy one get on free moment. He had to admit that he was impressed since the certificate only cost me .80 cents. so &7.80 later he was hooked. Now we pick them up when they are this cheap and keep them on the back burner for when we go out with groups of friends, have birthday parties, romantic date nights and the certificate, even though they have catches, allow you to enjoy a beverage, appetizer or desert, when you may not have gotten it to begin with die to budget, so they make nice treats. I would suggest getting a small coupon ( $10 of $15) to somewhere close and getting him hooked that way. 🙂 We also snag them for gifts to people … Hope this helped a little. 🙂

I meant * due to budget* for those who proof read these 🙂

From my experience, the gratuity isn’t always added first. So check your bill! If you don’t see it on there, don’t forget to tip (common sense I know).

Oh, I always leave a good tip, at least 20% unless it was exceptionally lousy. 🙂

I just bought some for my son-he’s in Monterey, and am anxious to see how they work also. Wish we had some restaurants here participating.
As far as the 18% gratuity, I would hope you would be leaving a decent tip anyway…unless the place was just sorry. So just remember to check your bill to see if indeed it’s added; if so, you wouldn’t have to leave additional tip. On the $25 GC, it looks like most require a $35 total purchase-which isn’t bad. It’s hard to go anywhere good to eat for less than $35 especially if you take kids-or MY HUSBAND!!!

I’m the good tipper… my husband is not! I always have to check the bill to see if he left a decent one anyway. He wants to tip $5 no matter what, and I’ve had to cross out the total! I was just confused b/c the fine print for all says 18% gratuity.

I thought this sounded good, too, but this is what my husband informed me of….”You have to spend a certain amount before you can use the gift certificate, and it is only on certain days that you can use them, and they build an automatic gratuity into your bill.”

Grifyn-check if there are any in your area with a 2 entree minimum instead of $ minimum. We found one and paid less than $5 for tax&tip! I also called ahead to make sure they really take the certificates so that it wouldn’t be an issue. As far as the gratuity goes, 18% is not very much to tip. My hubby used to be a Chili’s waiter in hs and college and boy, they work hard for not much money. We always tip at least 20%!

Anyway, it worked great for us! We got an awesome meal for McDonald’s prices! lol

If you’re an Ebates member that is looking to purchase a Restaurant.com certificate, make sure you do so through your Ebates account. You can use the 80% off code and Ebates offers a 15% rebate!

Me and my boyfriend looove restaurant.com. Weve had the best experiences!
But as far as tipping goes (not necessarily restuarant.com visits), we tip very well for exceptional service. However, we play a game. We start at a certain tip amount, and then depending on the waiters service, we either go down, or up. We live in miami….sadly the service here is 99% bad. Oh well.
