My husband I completed Financial Peace classes last Spring. It is life-changing.
My husband and I have read his books and have done what he suggests and are now debt free other than our house. We also have a savings- for emergencies that come up in life-for the very first time ever and I love knowing that we are prepared. I HIGHLY recommend his stuff. Although-this is a very good deal for all the products offered, you can get his books and stuff on places like half.com for cheaper.
We LOVE his books! My husband has already had Total Money Makeover, but sent it to someone who really needed it.. but he wants a new one and has wanted more books and stuff from him.. he also listens to his podcasts ALL the time! And he really does help!! We’ve paid off all our credit cards and will have both of our cars paid off in March, which will be just shy of 2 years of this and paid off a total of over $30k in debt! ((And with only making about $45k a year before taxes!)) So this will be a great Christmas present for him!
I agree with the other posters. I don’t feel there is ever a good use for a credit card, even for emergencies. I used to think one had to be in debt to own stuff-homes, cars, etc. After Dave, I found it wasn’t true. None of us are ever 100 percent insured against financial catastrophe (we always have utilities, food, property taxes, etc) but not having to finance items sure helps to sock money away. I am not as far along in this process as others, but several people I know have paid off their large mortgages decades early due to following this program!

I cannot say enough FABULOUS things about Dave Ramsey. His program is great and definitely works, if you stick to the plan. I would recommend actually taking the Financial Peace University class for $90-$100 at your local church. I know that it is a little more expensive, but you get a 13 week class and a wonderful network of people who all have the same goal in mind. His program has changed our lives, and most definitely our future!

I completely agree. I think the class is what actually helped and inspired me. Some churches even offer scholarships to take the class. I only had to pay $20 but starting next year, I plan on sponsoring 2 people per year to do FPU.
For a family like mine, we don’t have credit cards or anything and the only thing we need to pay off is our truck (about $8,000 to go), we just don’t make a lot of money and have NO savings whatsoever bc every penny we make pays bills and anything left goes to grocery/household items and things our 3 kids need. Would this help people like us try to find ways to get our savings started?

Dave also advocates ways in which to increase your income as a means to building savings (such as taking on second jobs, odd jobs, etc). I know it’s easier said than done but may be a short term option that builds savings quickly.
I do sympathize because many people have limited income especially in today’s economy. With kids, it sometimes seems like a battle lost before it’s begun. I love what coupons do for my grocery bill bottom line, but there’s only so much savings to be squeezed from that area. For us, our mortgage is the biggest mouth to feed, so extra money I have goes toward that.
I think the best help Dave gives is getting people to look at money differently.
He really is pretty awesome. I took his class recently and we are kind of in the same situation as you. We didn’t have debt but it helped us look at money a little differently. He is on the radio….you should look him up, listen and see if you like him!
This book helps anyone!! It can help a single parent with hardly any income. You just have to want to do it (get out of debt). I love love love Dave Ramsey!! This is a good deal, but you can also check financial peace and money makeover at the library. Def worth it!!
The book gives you tips on how to try and get debit free. I know what you mean about not having the money, we are in the same situation, but I read the book and it gave me alot of insight and has made me want to strive a little harder to get out of debit. My husband has started working 80 hrs a week because we know that it may be a sacrifice now, but later he won’t have to work as much and we will be so much better off financially. It also motivated me to go through my house and find things that I really didn’t need to sell just to be able to put that money towards one of our debits. It doesn’t necessarily tell you what to do, but I think it helps to get you motivated to do something. We are hoping to start knocking off our debit and have been working toward that goal. We look at even an extra $5 helps pay it down.
He is inspiring. I know what you mean…My husband and I were in your shoes. Blieve me this stuff works! My husband and I were able to go through his class thanks to help from our church memebers! We are currently taking Financial Peace University and we really thought we were already doing everything and after many pay cuts and insurance increases at my hubbys work we are not making a lot of money (I am a SAHM). After going through almost all of the classes and listening to his radio show we have become SO motivated to do even more. If anything, he is very motivational and non judgemental. Yes! As the previous posters stated, these books will help anyone in ANY situation. Prior to going on the “Dave Ramsey Plan”, we were also living paycheck to paycheck. After my husband and I sat down to write our first budget together, we were amazed at how much “extra” money we had each month. We’ve been on his plan for 8 months and have put away our $1000 emergency fund and have paid off close to $15,000. He will teach you how to write a budget and stick to your budget. love Dave Ramesey. We got his book two years ago from my parents. If you are willing to commit those books will change you and your family’s financial future. He says what a lot of people say: get out of debt, make a budget, etc. But how he says it really gets you excited. Plus for us having steps to follow and not having to conquor everything at once helped us to get organized. we are now debt free except for our house and have six months salary in the bank. I have loaned the book to multiple people and one is already debt free too and the rest are on their way. We just have Total Money Makeover, but I am sure the whole package would be nice. If you are serious about getting out of debt and gaining control of your finances it’s worth it. it’s also a great gift, as long as the people you give it to won’t be offended in the giving.

Ditto to what the others have said! Most of what he teaches is very easy and straightforward, and leads to greater understanding of money/finances and how to use it wisely now and in the future. We’ve been working Dave’s plan for a few years and are just a couple months away from being debt free except our house. In the current economy and instability of many job markets, knowing how to manager our money, and having a little in savings has provided significant peace in our house.
Dave Ramsey has some incredible, first-hand, money knowledge and experience. His ideas are Christian based and very sensible. This would make a GREAT present for someone graduating OR a wedding present for a couple. HIGHLY recommend and price is great!!!!

Try to remember that HE is not directly charging YOU for these books. There is a middle man who is not interested in saving you money ;). I have only heard good things from all my friends about Dave Ramsey and have picked up many of his ideas myself. I am sure if we went all in we would be amazed with what we could do. In the end $91 is nothing compared to what you will do in the next few weeks even if you go all in with his ideas.
Well of course he does have a business and charges for his expertise. But he is beyond all that too – many times on his radio show he sends the callers to his Financial Peace class or sends them the Total Money Makeover. He also has a network of preferred local providers that is invaluable. He has a nice christian base – this is NOT an infomercial self-help thing. He has a tv show, his radio show and to him it is a calling. He’s been way way broke in his past and decided he didn’t want to be there again. Making money isn’t evil and no one should give away their services just because someone thinks its too expensive. Like many have said the books are well available at libraries and used book stores – but it might be nice to have your own nice set too.
The thing that I thought about when purchasing his products is this:
If you got the information would you be as willing to stick to it? Most people are more prone to dedicating themselves to something when they put the money out to start it. I have been on his program for 2 months and I can’t tell you how much it has helped my financial stress and everyday living state of mind. It is so nice knowing that I have money set aside for the brakes to be changed on the car, the shoes the kids will need to get, copay for the doctor, and the best part….. My husband and I have a savings and after 8 1/2 years of marriage, it is the first time. I may not have over 10 thousand in there like som, but I have started it and that is like he says… Baby steps!
Think of it as a 91 dollar investment for your future. Its truly worth every penny.
When my friend asked me to take FPU with him, I thought the same thing about the price but you will gain much more than the $99 within the first month, I can almost guarantee it. He shows you how to look at money and things in a different light. When I started I was so ‘gazelle’ intense, my daughter hated Dave Ramsey but her attitude changed when she left for school without having to take out student loans this year!!
I’d say this is a wonderful time to purchase one of his packs! My husband is going through a 4 year seminary program to become a Pastor and I work in a bookstore – barely above minimum wage. We had the opportunity to attend a seminar on his campus and walked away with GREAT tips! We’ve been married for 2.5 years and already have about $26,000 saved from living frugally. We live a really comfortable life too – thanks partly to Hip2Save! 🙂 There is no “boo hoo” …. “poor us” living this way! We love knowing we make smart money decisions and have absolutely no threat of overdrawing the bank or not knowing if we can pay for the “what ifs” when they come along…because they will! I can definitely say we are some of the “strangest” 24 year olds we know because of how we spend money! 🙂 We don’t mind that a bit!
I might add….don’t trust his Hebrew (or was it Greek)! He said something in one of his videos and he was so wrong. In a room full of Seminarians…..it wasn’t a good thing! 🙂

Check out his books from your local library and follow his advice. The workbooks are nice, but we worked the steps with a basic lined notebook and some envelopes.
As some people have said – look at your library or half.com, etc. You could also go to his website and I’m sure there are some videos/audio files you could listen to grab free information. You really only need a LITTLE of what he talks about to begin! 🙂

Just like everyone else said – go to your library! I was in your shoes, where $10 would break the BANK! We had our lights turned off on us ONCE and it was HORRIBLE! But, I tell you, I got his book, you can LISTEN to his radio program for free (just need to tune to the AM station) and get a lot of info just from his Total Money Makeover book. Let me tell you, we have a LONG way to go and a LOT of debt to dump, but it is SO WORTH IT! We now have our $1000+ in savings, have never been late on another utility and are dumping our debt like crazy! It really is mainly about RESPONSIBILITY and SELF CONTROL! Try going to his website http://www.daveramsey.com and you can find a local station carrying his show, and if not, you can listen live from 2-5 EST! I highly recommend it! If you can’t listen live to his show, you can also listen to about 2 weeks worth of archived shows that are on his website, as well. (found on the “show” tab) If you need motivation to get you started, make sure you listen to one of his Friday shows. He always has people calling into the show on Fridays with their success stories. I get goose bumps every time. Everyone has a different story and it really will give you hope!!!! The thing I love about him is that he doesn’t beat around the bush. He’ll tell it like it is, because he has been there. GOOD LUCK to you!!!!
I have read most of his books(all checked out from the local library) and also listen to his talk radio program. His advice is fantastic! My husband and I have changed our financial lives, paying off credit cards and turning our business finances around. We own a small construction co and are in the best financial situation of our 12year marriage, even in this tough economy! Our only regret is that we did not start listening to Dave sooner!

We borrowed the books from the library, but I would highly recommend these for people who are committed to paying off debt and building wealth!! Dave’s plans are very simplistic and straight forward, but they really do work and can change your life! Love Dave Ramsey! There are cheaper ways to get his books, though. He often has a $10 sale around the holidays. Also, if you want free, volunteer at his events. You get free admission to hear him live and free dinner, just for working at his stands selling the materials. Then, at the end of the day, he lets you take any books you want for free 🙂

Dave Ramsey ROCKS!!! Honestly, God has blessed this man with the ability to teach people how to be good stewards of their money. My husband and I took the class at our church and helped lead one of the small groups. We have paid off all our credit cards and cut them up/closed accounts. Sold a motorcycle and have sold other things on e-bay and craigslist to help in debt pay down. We still have more to go but we are on our way. Hip-2-Save helps me get more out of my food budget as well as other household things and I take my kids clothes to the local consignment shop and get store credit to shop for clothes or toys I may need or want for them. I don’t have to spend any money for clothes for them right now. So far with the help of Dave’s budget and H2S deals I am on track and under budget and almost done Christmas shopping! Highly recommend!
I’ve been hearing good things about him for awhile but I think you ladies have converted me to the dark side, lol. We have only my car to pay off, but even then we’re just paying my parents back (dad bought the car, I make monthly payments to him so its not as strict as dealing with a loan). Dave Ramsey is a money genius! My husband and I took his Financial Peace University course and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE. We paid of $15,000 worth of debt in less than a year (we’re debt FREE except for our house) and now have a $12,000 Emergency Fund! We’re saving for our son’s college, saving for cars, saving for vacation and Christmas, and working on paying our house off early. And we are definitely not wealthy (I’m a teacher and he’s a fireman). I can honestly say that I was able to take the year off to stay home with my baby because of how prepared we were financially – because of Dave Ramsey!
Dave Ramsey rocks. We we paid off $8000 in student loan debt and have $12000 in an emergency fund all in the course of 2 years. No tricks or gimicks, just common sense. It is amazing what having a plan for your money can accomplish. We did this all on a teacher’s salary. Before we started this I thought you couldn’t squeeze any money out of our budget to accomplish these goals. But here we are living proof. I’m curious thought…as you said, “just common sense”…is this more like a common sense book/program? I have not had any experience with Dave Ramsey, and haven’t purchased his stuff because I’m wondering if it’s just more “common sense” material. **I’m not trying to downplay anything, just want more information and want something different from everything else I read.**
His program IS “common sense”. He really outlines things, show graphs, and does calculations, gives you the tools to budget, plan and manage your money. Whereas most people “know” they need to do this, he gives you what you need to do it. While telling you WHY “this way” or “that way”…..make sense? It won’t disappoint! The money you spend on the books, you’ll know it’s the BEST investment you’ll ever make:-) hehe I sounds like an ad. lol
It seems so basic. He has baby steps that you can take to financial peace. There is no magic involved. It’s not some gimick with a software program you have buy, like so many on the radio. He takes you step by step through several different areas of debt, budgeting, savings, etc. He teaches you how to control your money so it doesn’t control you. We were always pretty good with our finances before this, we had a budget, no credit card debt, etc. I thought it might not apply to us, but it has been a tremendous blessing. It is amazing what have a single focus can do in your life. Check out his radio broadcast or listen to his podcast. He does tend to promote his products a lot, but they really do work and he has to make a living too.
Well, maybe what he’s saying isn’t common sense, since so many of us haven’t figured it out on our own! Perhaps it’s better to say that his Plan “makes sense” rather than is “just common sense.”

ALL it is, is simple self control and responsibility combined with years of his rich-to-bankruptcy experience! And not only that, it is faith based simple techniques! If all of America would just spend time on living within their means, there would not be NEAR the financial crisis there is! You can also listen LIVE online every M-F from 2-5 EST. We cannot say enough about how this is changing our lives. Sure credit card companies want you to “have them in your wallet” or have their “sapphire” card to get “free” travel. Do you honestly have any idea how much money you have to spend to get “free” travel? It is a gimmick! Don’t have the money for his materials? Keep an eye out! You can check them out at your local library and/or he usually has his $10 book sale right before Christmas. But, again, listen online or the radio (don’t even need to have internet at home!) and you can learn SOOOO much. That’s how we started! Didn’t have $ for the book at first, and now we give them away to friends/family and are attending his Financial Peace University! Best $100 we have EVER spent!
Give it a try!!! What do you have to lose? No I don’t work for him, but truly believe in financial peace and believe that if you live like no one else, you will later truly live like no one else. Being broke doesn’t have to be your NORMAL! If what you’re doing right now isn’t working, then why not try something else??? 🙂
Week took FPU at our church And I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. I can’t say enough good things about it. It drastically changed our lives and how we think about our finances! !!

1. For those of you who are deep in debt and don’t want to spend the $ on the books, check with churches in your area for FPU classes-many offer “scholarships”.
2. For those of you who have hubbies that don’t like financial stuff, or say its BOOOOORING…books won’t hold their interest nor will they read them….GET THE VIDEOS! My husband finds Dave entertaining, and THEN he learns!
3. The reason it “works” is because its biblically-based, common-sense sound advice. Dave has a gift of making it understandable to the general masses.
4. The financial “gurus” belittle Dave’s teachings. ’nuff said.
Find someone who has these books if you don’t have the cash to buy them-and if you do have them, pay it forward by giving it to someone!

Well, I just got a promotion and a raise at work (the first “bigger” paycheck came today) so I splurged on this set. I am pretty good about my finances–tend to be frugal, stick to my budget, etc. But I’d really like to pay off my small amount of consumer debt in the next year, and then, hopefully, my house in the next 10 years. I just ordered this bundle, and let me tell you about my experience with Dave Ramsey’s customer service. I noticed right after I placed the order the “more” code to get the free book, so re-did my cart to see if it worked, and it did. Since I had already ordered, I called customer service to see if my order could be modified or canceled so I could get the free book. You would not believe the response I got! Not only did he (someone named “Ben”) say my order could not be modified or changed, he said that I was “trying to pull one over on them” by using two codes on the same order. He told me I was not allowed to do this, and that I shouldn’t have even tried; the “system” was not designed to use this way. I am still shaking my head. I asked to be transferred to his supervisor, and he put me through to a voice mail for website problems. Unbelievable!!
