Allure Rebate Issues Gotcha Down?!

If you purchased multiple Herbal Essence, Venus or Olay gift packs back in December and submitted for multiple Allure Magazine rebates, then I have good news for you! Check out this email from reader, Laura…

I bought 5 packs to use as gifts and had read the rebate form.  I sent in all 5 forms with my name and address.  I have only received one rebate check for $9.99.  On my check stub was a customer service number, and I called.  There was nothing on the rebate application that stated one per person or one per household.  They said that it was omitted this year by mistake and that it has been on their form in previous years.  They will be sending me the additional $39.96, as per their rebate agreement.  I have seen several negative comments on some of my favorite blogs about not getting the correct amount in rebates.  It would be awesome if you could pass this along.  Their customer service number is 800-274-7410.

So….if you only received one rebate check of $9.99 but actually submitted several rebate requests, be pro-active and call the customer service # mentioned above. And if you have any other suggestions, please leave a comment below.

    So glad you posted this. I got their letter a week ago and was bummed. I will be calling to get my other check today!

      ok–that went ok! I called the number, told the person that I had received one check and a letter about meeting the max allowed. She said, “yes that’s correct cuz you only get one per household.” I said, “the problem is, it didn’t say that on the rebate form. I know a lot of people (my hip2save friends, wink, wink) that have had this same issue and had to speak to a supervisor to get it taken care of.” Her-“ok, i’ll transfer you to my supervisor.” From there I said the same thing and the supervisor (Leslie, I think) stated she’d send a check in 4-6 weeks. They were all nice:)

      I just called them and the lady was super sweet. She told me to put on a note somewhere that it’s 1 rebate for all and not per household. I’m crossing my fingers because I have a lot. I’m pumped….hope my bubble doesn’t get burst!

      you must have made a copy? glad they didn’t tell me to do that since i hadn’t. the letter from them should be proof enough!

        ALWAYS make copies. I scan all mine in the computer, put them in a folder called simply: Mail In Rebates. This way you have record off all of these. JUST MAKE SURE to delete them when they do come in!!! Or else your still going to be outta the loop. LOL.

      I received a check for $9.99 too after submitting 5 forms. I called Monday of this week and was told..one household per offer…I explained no where did it say that. So, after speaking… to a supervisor, I had to write a letter, include all the copies of receipts, codes, website wording and fax to a dept for review. I was hopeful after reading this post…so I called again today…again, I got…one offer per household! I said..no, explained again and even read the comment from the reader….the customer service rep again spoke to a supervisor and said it was sent to the publisher for action. ???? I’m still bummed – crossing fingers it all works out!

    AWESOME! good for you! i would have liked to have done that deal but i was feeling a little overwhelmed with rebates and things that were supposed to be mailed to me. well thats awesome, i’m glad that they actually HELPED a customer. i have bad luck with customer service myself 🙂 yay for you!!

    I know this is off subject…but anybody received more than one rebate from Renpure Organic shampoo/conditioner? Last November, I’ve purchased several bottles,so far only received one. 🙁

        I did the rebate last fall and wondered if I dare do it again but since you’ve had good luck and I love the kind in the red bottles—its my new favorite, I think I’ll give it a go. Even if it doesn’t work at B1G1 at CVS this week its not the most costly haircare.

      I have received 6 different checks from them. Four came one day and two came another. They have been really great and I know there is a link somewhere where you can check the status of your rebate. Google renpure rebate status and it should come up. HTH

        Thanks ladies! I’ll go to their website to check my rebate…OR I’ll directly email to them regarding rebates. I’ve purchased green,orange and red bottles. So far, I’ve been using green and it is just okay. I guess my hair is different..lol

    I too, bought many of these and sent in 6 forms (1 for each magazine) and have received all 6 of the magazines! …but lucky you getting the checks!!

    i got my letter yesterday and immediately called. they told me there was nothing they could do. i asked who i needed to call. she said i could talk to her supervisor. after a long wait she came back. she had talked to her supervisor. she said i should get a check in another 4-6 weeks. glad it was solved so easily. i didn’t intend to “pay” for their mistake!

      I too asked for a supervisor because I was getting the “absolutely nothing I can do” comment. I didn’t have to even explain it to the supervisor, she was informed and apologized for the issue, and they were standing behind it because it didn’t state 1 per household. She supposedly sent it to be processed and to allow 2-3 weeks. Yeah!! I’ll have to wait and see if it really goes through. Thanks for the heads up! I probably wouldn’t have called otherwise. Oh, and mine came back from glamour, not allure, but the customer service # listed is the same.

      Oh no, Don’t do two swiffer rebates! Not to the same address. The forms are almost exactly the same, but the BIG difference is that the swiffer form DOES say “one per household” I doubt they’d send you two, and you wouldn’t have anything to fight it with.

    Wish I could have gotten in on this. 3 walmarts in a 20 mile radius of my house and not 1 carried this gift basket. Bummer!

      I saw them everywhere, but I think I did not have any coupons to make them moneymakers, so even with the rebate, it would only have made for free body wash, etc and I REALLY did not want any more.

    I sent my rebate offer in the day I purhcased the HE gift pack which would have been a few days after Christmas because it was a clearance deal. I received an offer from Allure last week, for a 2yr subscription for the price of 1 but no $9.99 rebate as I requested. I just now called the 800 number posted above and the CS lady told me that they never received my request. I told her it never came back to me. She suggested that it got lost in the mail. Come on! I asked her how Allure got my address to send me the 2 for 1 offer and she said she didnt know. Well I know, its because they got my rebate request and decided to send me this instead. I guess Im just out of luck….

    I just called. They tried to tell me that it was one rebate per household. I told them that it did NOT state that on the form and I had contacted THEIR customer service prior to submitting three rebates to make sure that I could do three per household.

    Long story, short…they put my request in for payment. Don’t let them tell you that it was one per household if that was not on THEIR form.

    I got a letter from glamour saying i didnt send the card in with the rebate, but attached was my receipt, form, and card in the mail. I called and they said they would send me a check. My mom and my boyfriend (yeah, i used his address on my 2nd purchase just in case) received the same exact letter. Guess I have to call again. What a pain!

    Thank you so much for this post!! I bought several of these and submitted my forms, mailed them seperately, each with their own form, and their own original copy of the receipt. I have not received a check or letter or anything from them. I am on the phone with them now. I was told that they were not applicable because it was one per household. When I told her that the rebate form did not say that, she typed for about 10 mins and then she said she submited the request and I should receive a check in 4-6 weeks. I hope that is the case!! I bought 10 to give as gifts!! That is $99.90!!

      Who did you speak with because I called today (for the second time) and was told the same thing. The superviser said to fax in a letter which is time consuming. If you have the name of the person you worked with that might be helpful. Thanks

          Actually if you call in, there’s automatically activity in your account so whoever you speak can transfer you to the last person you spoke with, without you remembering their name.

    In fairness, I warned everyone on this blog that you’d only get one refund. I used to work for Conde Nast. I’m glad everyone’s happy with what they’re doing, however it may differ depending upon which supervisor you speak with. On a lighter note, if any of you still have your $5 credit from DealPulp you can get $25 to letsgogreen.biz for $3! 🙂

    I had the same thing happen! I bought 7 and recieved one check for 9.99 in the mail and a letter saying that they were unable to process my request. I called the customer service and faxed them the letter I recieved in the mail, the Allure redemption page, copies of my 7 special bonus cards, and a letter questioning why I did not recieve the refund. I called back a week later and they had processed my request!!! They were very easy to work with! **Also, for any rebate you submit always make copies of everything! SHINE

    So I deposited my rebate and the check bounced!!!! I am so mad. My bank actually tried to charge me $12.00 because the check bounced! CRAZY!!! I have NEVER had a rebate check bounce before!~

    With all this commotion of not receiving checks and having to call, I’m glad I only submitted one rebate for a check and the other three as magazines. I’ve received the check and all the magazines.

I thought about calling them to dispute this but chose to not bother with it. Well I called them this morning and they are sending me my check in the mail!! Woohoo thanks again for posting this.

    I think it’s important to consider the intentions of the company when submitting for rebates. It is unlikely that a company would intend for one person to send in multiple high dollar rebates, as this could cause the company to lose a great deal of money. The intention of rebates is generally to allow a consumer to try a product (once!) at a reduced price. If the company IS open to a consumer utilizing multiple rebates, they will explicity state as such on the rebate form.

    If we all would like to see companies continue to offer great rebates (as I am sure we would), we should all take responsibility and submit them as we the company intended. If companies lose a great deal of money on a rebate offer, they are unlikely to offer more in the future. Please keep this in mind.

      I have to say that this was an error on the companies part and for those who took advantage of a great deal like this, kudos to them. Companies make mistakes all the time and something like this they will just count as an advertising expense, etc. For sure next time they come out with this promo they SHOULD double check their verbage but I don’t think it falls on the consumer to have to decipher what the merchants intent was. Consumers are held to a standard of what is required for submission, and as long as they fulfill all the requirements I do believe that the company is bound to honor their promotion.

        Yes, it was a mistake on the company’s end. However, by taking advantage, you could possibly be taking away the possibility of a similar promotion in the future no matter who is at fault. Conde Nast didn’t HAVE to offer a refund for a magazine subscription that was offered FOR FREE. Second of all, I used to work for Conde Nast and I have warned everyone about the refund process there and NO ONE listened..no one commented on my posted, it just got passed by. So if you don’t receive the multiple refunds, it’s your own fault in my opinion. Sorry.

      I’m glad you posted this. I couldn’t agree with you more. I love getting free things, and great deals, but seriously? Buying multiple items expecting payment from rebates is a little ridiculous. I’m afraid you could be right in the fact that one day greed will eliminate these amazing offers because of people abusing the system. I realize the form didn’t specify one per household… but let’s be real and use common sense…

          Their intent is to have 10,000 people try one product, not 1 person get 10,000 products. Intent is 9/10 of the law, except loopholes seems to have taken dominance lately.

      I understand what you’re saying, and I agree to some extent, but I also think the company only puts out a certain # of rebates. Honestly if it doesn’t say a limit then technically it’s open. It’s the same amount of $ either way. It’s an advertising expense for them. I personally purchased 3 sets, but they were each different, with products that I use, my husband uses and my daughter uses. I look at it as 1 per person then, because we’ll continue buying those products because we like them.

      Ginger, I do agree with you.

      At best, this deal was a moneymaker for a few dollars (whatever coupon someone made have had). In any other case, it would only have meant free product. In the end, it’s just not worth some free body wash/lotion, to me anyway. I usually only buy 2 newspapers and don’t use a clipping service and STILL I have a little too much of this type stuff due to “deals.” I absolutely LOVED the P&G rebate where you could buy Herbal Essences, Venus, Secret, Olay, Cover Girl, etc instead of just one brand or type of product.

      I am all for people exercising their rights. And I’m sure that after purchasing multiple gift sets expecting a refund, it would be somewhat disconcerting to realize that one actually had to pay for the product. And I’m not too concerned about companies losing money in this way. But, we don’t know how each company will respond to such a consumer response. In this situation, they can only assume that some people will throw common sense and experience right out the door in order to score another rebate check. Of course, that type behavior is probably why they ever initially added all the fine print to rebates about getting only one and it being mail fraud (a federal offense) if you use multiple addresses to obtain more refunds. Same reason we have to have laws about using cell phones and texting while driving, etc. There is always someone who throws logic to the wind to get some immediate gratification so it becomes more restrictive on everyone.

    So I bought extra gift sets (they were reduced to $5.99 at my walmart and I was able to use the $2 olay coupon that expired at the end of December) on the same receipt. I sent off my reciept for the rebate and didn’t even think about submitting multiple rebates….my question is can I go ahead and request the magazines since I have 4 of those rebate cards with the special codes?

      Offer good from 9-27-10 to 12-31-10 it states on the form. So if you didnt mail it in yet, its too late.

        I think you had to purchase them with in those dates. It stated in fine print on the website that they needed to be submitted within 30 days of purchase so you are still probably too late. Check your receipt.

    Also, I sent in my P&G rebate request for the $110 booklet — haven’t received that either! 🙁

    Oh wait, my guess, is they knew they messed up, are HOPING you dont call and point out there mistake, hence saving them all this money that they were hoping not to send to you.

    I had just purchased 2 and got 1 check and 1 letter. I wasn’t going to call but since I still had the letter w/my CVC & Wags lists for the week on the back, I did and spoke with Pat who spoke with her supervisor. She said I should fax a copy of my letter and that they would be submitting them to their home office… I don’t have a fax and she would not give me the option to email or mail it in so I’m not sure if I will follow through or not.

    I rec’d three checks within a week….but I used my married name, my maiden name,and a nickname (my bank doesn’t care whose name is on the check as long as I write “for despoit only” when I scan it in). I also used three addresses….but my point is that I got all my checks within 7 days of each other. Now keeping my fingers crossed for the Olay $20 rebate….

      I already got the $20 Olay rebate…it worked great! Got more run around today on phone for rebates…it wasnt easy as – ok check in the mail, our mistake. My rep said it my request (for the additional rebates) had been passed on to the publisher…so we shall see.

    Even though there wasn’t a “limit 1” on the rebate, there usually is. It’s to let everyone try one, not a select few to stockpile thousands. I feel bad for the companies that give us these great deals and we fall upon them like vultures on prey, with no self regulation, blaming the company for their own “stupidity” or “typo” as we hoard more than our fair share. We turn into A-holes because someone wanted to give us a gift and we ran away with everything we could.
    Make excuses if you want, but most of us won’t purchase them in the future because we already have a stockpile and will only “purchase”if they give it away again.
    I get the deals too, I’m just saying, if it were you obligated to pay out thousands when you only planned on hundreds, you’d feel different. “Big Bad Corporate America” is not untouchable. Too many slips and a company can and does go out of business.
    On the flipside, I feel that if a rebate or promo does go wrong, there should be a way to “undo it”, such as the company mailing the receipt back so it can be returned.
    I just feel I read a lot of “I deserve it” posts and they are kind of disheartening.

    I just called yesterday (after I got my, only one rebate per household letter) and was told I did not follow the rules of the submission. I explained what all of you had explained only to be told, NO. I then said can I at least get one magazine out of it and she said yes. Makes me mad that I could not get my $20 back and then to find out today many other folks have gotten theirs. Also makes me mad that because of their mistake we have to all the work to resubmit things that they already have from us. I was told it was on the Protector and Gamble rules for this rebate and told I needed to deal with them and not ALLURE>

      I mailed my paperwork in on 11 – 27 – 10. Just called the 800 number. They have no record of my submission. Said it must have gotten lost in the mail. Attributed it to the time of year, when lots of mail gets lost. (This did not make me feel too good.!) So, we settled with me having to fax everything over to them and put attention – Special Services. A real pain, but I will do it for my 9.99 – if I ever see it at this rate! Think I’m going to return the Swiffer that I bought. Don’t want to go thru this again.

    I purchased four gift sets on four separate receipts and sent the rebates to four family members with obviously different addresses. I’m happy to say that we all received our checks last week in the mail. I think the four separate receipts and different addresses helped us to receive our checks without any problems. However, I always keep a photocopy of everything in case of a problem and give my family members a heads up regarding an upcoming check coming in the mail.

    Funny! I was just going to post my allure success when I read your post. I called 3 weeks ago and stated that the rebate did not state one per household. I got a little resistance but they said they would submitt it again and see what happened. I just received my second rebate check!

    stupid my bought 5 pack and did not read that it needed to be send before 12/30/10. I send mine in Jan along with Olay. WHen was Olay rebate last date??? it was my first time doing this and I guess I blow it =( my husband is not happy. lol

    I had sent a letter to the BBB and got my 2nd rebate back that way. Later I got an email saying they would send out all of my rebate checks (4 total) so if I don’t get them I guess I will call that number and make sure I get them. The first time I called way back in December, the supervisor was not being very nice!

    I just called. When I gave her my zip code and name, she was able to find me in the computer with the correct address. I told her why I was calling, and she put me on hold. When she came back, she asked me when I sent it. I told her the beginning of December, and she said usually it takes 4-6 weeks. Since it was near Christmastime, it might take longer, around 6-8 weeks. She told me to call back in 2 weeks. So, I am confused. She was nice. Since I am in their computer, I am not super worried that I will not get it. I’ve never had a subscription from them before, so I had to have gotten in the computer somehow. So, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
    I did receive my $20 Olay rebate on Tuesday. I was happy about that. 🙂

    I was refused a refund because it said that the subscription card wasn’t included with the refund. However, I taped the subscription card to the the rebate and it was returned back to me. Has anyone else had this issue? The subscription card was the one with the code on it, correct?

    Personally, I never feel good taking advantage of other’s mistakes – people or business. Somewhere, sometime, we all make mistakes – and common sense is normally one rebate/household. I give Olay and Allure A LOT OF CREDIT for making it right. With or without coupons, their business ethics and integrity are OUTSTANDING!

    I got a letter in the mail saying I had exceeded the refund limit because I had submitted for three. I called right away, and the entire situation seems to be rather routine by now, thanks to all of you who have forged the way 🙂 They were aware of the rebate not containing text about a limit, and the lady I talked to (Jenna) quickly and routinely “sent a letter to the publisher” and got all three of my rebate checks put in the mail! Seems you just need to let them know that YOU know you followed the rules and you are entitled to all your rebates, and you will get them! Thanks to all you fellow couponers who stuck to your guns and made this an easy fix!

    I’m not sure why I have to read about people complaining that someone was able to get the stuff for free, isnt that why we are on this site. Yes the company might have made an error. But if it was such an error than why could we get multiple magazine subscriptions. O wait, cause it wasnt an error. They wanted people to be able to buy as many as they liked and get as many magazines as they wanted. Thats not standard issue, so the rebates to my thinking go right along with that.

    And I am still waiting for that check
