I just started participating in the Staples deal with the last free paper deal. I really can’t believe they give you office supplies for FREE! Are these batteries really for free? How can they do that?

    • Jessica K

      Don’t question. Just enjoy! 🙂

      • Jessica K

Oh, you do have to pay tax. I got some today and my tax was $1.20. Still an amazing deal!

    • Jen

It really isn’t as easy as it sounds. You have to pay for the batteries up front and then you get Staples Rewards in return for the full amount to spend in the store. If you use that Staples Reward to “buy” something else that offers a Staples Reward, you will not get another Staples Reward. You have to roll them sort of like Walgreen’s RR’s. I “buy” items that are FREEE after Staples Rewards and then use my Staples Rewards to buy items that are EASY REBATE. Easy Rebate is just that, EASY. You get a check in the mail for the total amount of the item that you bought, even IF you USED your Staples Rewards to pay for it. Sometimes you do get “STUCK” with Staples Rewards and nothing is offered with an Easy Rebate. This is when I use the Rewards to buy ink.

      • Araaidan

Thanks for the tip on rolling! I had no idea!!! Love the end result of rolling into ink (always good to have a back-up plan to your plan A!

        • Karen

I have to say, I personally don’t get all that excited about items that are “free” after rewards.

With and easy rebate, you get $10 check for $10 spent. You have $10 worth of product for $0

With the rewards, you get a $10 CREDIT for $10 spent. So….now you take your $10 CREDIT to buy another $10 item. You have $20 worth of product for $10. Rewards are essentially a 50% discount. Not exactly “free”.

You can stack the odds in your favor by rolling them, as suggested above. However, the odds are still in Staples’ favor that you are going to spend more than the EXACT amount of the reward, so Staples will get you in the end…..

          Staples Easy Rebate = love
Staples Reward = eh, not so much 🙁

      • Rebekah

I was told today that the rewards work just like cash and that you CAN use it toward something else that has a staples reward and still get the next reward. Was I told something that wasn’t true? I was very specific in my questions

        • Jen

Yes, you were told wrong. I had to find out the hard way. You only receive Staples Rewards for actual CASH that you contribute!

  2. Teri

Are the staples easy rebates cash for use at staples only? I read the comments last time and was a little confused. (Maybe that is just my frame of mind!!)

    • Cassandra

The Easy rebates can be requested in the form of check or paypal and spent anywhere. Staple Rewards can only be spent at Staples. 🙂

      • Cassandra

oh i see someone replied to you below. sorry!

        • Teri

Thanks, I need all the help I can get!!! I will have to check out staples!

  3. Karen1985

Don’t forget the peelies that were on the multipacks of scotch time around Christmas. There is a $1/1 Scotch pop-up tape coupon that would make that one a moneymaker

    • Karen1985

on the Scotch tape…..not scotch time…sounds like I plan to start drinking lol

      • fran

        Funny! 😀

  4. Starla

Easy rebates come as a check to you to cash at the bank. Staples rewards can onl be spent at the store.

    • Teri

      thanks so much

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Love It!

  6. Nicole

easy rebates you get a check in the mail to deposit, so technically it is cash, the staples reward is a check you can only spend at staples. Hope this helps!

  7. Charlene

If you got the batteries last time, can you use those rewards to buy these batteries and get the rewards again? has anyone tried that.

    • Tacy M

If you use rewards to pay for new batteries, the new rewards will only be for the amount you actually pay out of pocket. That’s been my experience.

      • Charlene

Thanks, I think I will use it for rebate items and ink like Jen recommended.

  8. Niki D

Does anyone know if Staples takes Manuf. Coupons? I have a couple Duracell coupons, so these would be a small money maker.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

They do take coupons, but since the batteries are a reward item rather than a rebate, coupons will be deducted from the reward amount you will get back. Unless you want a little less out of pocket initially, you might want to save your coupons. You can use coupons on the rebate items and still get the full rebate. It’s a little confusing, but I still enjoy the offers at Staples.

  9. Christy

I’ve heard that Staples is picky about the rewards. If I pay with Staples Rewards, will I still get money back or will they deduct the rewards that I paid with off?

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    This is great! Thanks!

  11. crystal

got a kinda strange question is this a in-store only deal or can you get theses deals on there website also. I don’t have a store near me at all.

    • Susan

      I’ve done it online before.

  12. Linda

I am more of an Office Depot girl myself and have more batteries than I need, but let my dad know about this deal, and he said he’ll go and get the batteries. Thanks, Collin!

  13. Charlotte

Hubby got some batteries yesterday… How long does it take for them to show on your Staples Rebate center?

  14. Kimberly S

Another great deal @ Staples the 12 count Bic perm markers $7.99 BOGO. I hope you printed the $2.00 off coupon that Collin posted on 04/11/11, from FB because it’s no longer available. It makes for an awesome deal!!

  15. Heather

How long does it take for the rewards to be credited to your rewards card?

    • Jen

Rewards are not credited to your account until the 20th of the following month. So rewards for these batteries will be credited to your staplesrewards account on May 20.

      • Heather

        Thanks for the reply 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I bought batteries on Saturday the 23rd and it showed the purchase credited on my account yesterday. The reward itself will not be issued until May.

  16. olymama

I used the Scotch tape coupons at Staples to get free tape (this kind https://preview.tinyurl.com/3tbyhuf ). I also used the Post It coupon to get Post It Note Tabs(https://tinyurl.com/postitnotetabs) cheap (I think they were a dollar). I used the Scotch scissors coupon to get scissors at Toys R Us for 79 cents (https://tinyurl.com/scotchscissors). I will definitely be taking my pop up dispenser coupon to Staples since I have been waiting for a good sale to use it!

  17. Ree

i’m nervous I got the wrong ones. I was only charged $9.99each. where do you find the item number?

  18. Cc

Is there a way to see the list of items on easy rebate and rewards? I asked at the store and they didn’t even know what I was talking about…thanks

  19. Ellen

    Ladies,
Remember, Staples also takes competitor’s coupons! Office Depot often offers a $10 off
$50 purchase. I will take my $9.99 reward for the batteries I bought today (on sale at my local Staples), the $10 reward for 5 ink cartridges I turned in, and wait for the competitor $10 coupon. The 4-pack of ink cartridges for my printer is around $51. With $29.99 in credits, that makes for a sweet deal!

  20. Ellen

BTW, I asked, and yes, the $9.99 sale batteries are the right ones.

  21. Laure

Can I buy 2 packs of batteries in the same trip and be credited for both?

  22. Linda

Ok..I think I did something wrong today. I went to Stapes today and I got some of the Duracell AAA batteries. I paid $9.99 for them, but I had to sign up for their rewards program today. I did not get anything back. Should they have given me something to show me I have rewards, or does it just put a credit on my card?
    Thanks!

    • Donna

You will get a statement in the email/mail when your rewards are available. It is not instant.

  23. panchu

    Hi! Collin

    • Donna

You buy the products and the rebate forms will print at the register with your receipt.
