As most of you know, the Southern part of the United States (primarily Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee) was recently hit by a series of massive tornadoes. In addition to killing over 350 people, many homes were completely destroyed (you may want to check out this You Tube Video that reader, Amanda, sent over). I have received quite a few emails from Hip2Save readers who were directly or indirectly affected by these tornadoes and are asking that we all ban together to provide assistance to those in need.

I don’t know if anyone else posted this yet, but on facebook under:

This is a wonderful site where people are posting every lost thing they have found in hopes of people claiming them, please let people know if they have lost or found something about this site..

We live in North Alabama and got our power back yesterday. Our local news had a list, by county, of the deaths in our area. It was absolutely heart breaking. There are 30 unidentified bodies in one county. I am praying that they can be identified so their families will know.

For those of you in the Atlanta area, Buckhead Church is taking gift card donations to big box and home improvement stores – Target, Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. You can drop them in person or mail them for those of you who are not local. (buckheadchurch.org for their address) Think about those $5 GC we get as a part of Target deals. It may not be much, but it is something and is greatly appreciated.

WSBTV is partnering with Hosea Feed the Hungry to help N. Georgia tornado victims. They are accepting non-perishables and toiletries directly at the WSBTV studios in Midtown – 1601 W. Peachtree beginning today (5/3). This is the only local place I have found so far that is accepting actual items and not monetary gifts (come on ladies, put those stockpiles to good use!)

I live in Tuscaloosa and attend UA. It is a complete nightmare there; over 40 people have died and 300+ are still missing. I’m incredibly fortunate and the tornado missed where I was staying by less than a 1/10 of a mile. Toomer’s for Tuscaloosa is a great way to donate (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Toomers-for-Tuscaloosa/127019264041188 ) or the Red Cross (https://chapterneighborhood.wufoo.com/forms/online-donations-midalabama-chapter/) The amount of help and giving that people have done so far is just overwhelming! Thank you Colin for all you do and for posting this! And thank you to all who are helping any of the victims of the tornados that occurred throughout the south!

I live in Griffin, GA (Spalding County). The northern part of my town was hit EXTREMELY hard. I live in the southern part and we were spared but I can’t help but hurt for my town. We have people who lived in a trailer park that was destroyed staying there because of looters. So very sad. Our town has donation sites all around and I went through my stockpile and donated all that I could. But there is so much that needs to be done. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. That is just what I did…. Our church was taking up donations of products and I took a laundry basket and filled it with anything I thought they would need out of my stockpile. I also bought several snack products that were at a really good deal at one of our local stores and sent some of them too.

I feel so bad for the families that were affected by these tornados and hope to be able to go down to Smithville, Ms friday with my cousin. I can’t imagine how they feel.

I have a bunch of the Similac coupons…. I’d like to donate the formula to the tornado victims, but my Walmart does not carry the kind that is generating overage. They only have the expensive ones. If someone lives near a Wal-Mart that they can use them at before they expire and get some overage and also make the donation, that would be great. I’d like this to be a win-win. Overage for you, formula for the tornado victims. If you are interested, please reply with your email and I’ll get your address and mail them out to you today.

We at coupon-swap.org are doing a Tupperware fundraiser. You have to option of buying for yourself or buying something to have shipped “to the host” who will distribute them to the victims in need in Alabama. I am the Tupperware consultant and will also be donating my commission to this cause so 55% goes to helping the victims!

I filled out the survey for needs in the Concord and Pleasant Grove, Al area with the intention of returning to give names, ways to contact but am unable to access the site now. Some of these folks are living in the midst of downed trees in tents. No one has been by to help with heavy equipment yet and it would be awesome for them to get help soon.
