Happy Friday: Create Your Very Own "Photo Shoot"
Sent from reader, Melanie: I’m a long time reader and check your blog daily. With a 2 1/2 yr old son and 6 month old twins, I have to be very “hip” with our budget. I am obsessed with pictures of my kiddos but just can not bring myself to pay studio prices. Even with a good coupon or a no sitting fee promotion, I feel like I’m constantly being talked into buying an expensive photo package. Not to mention it’s hard to keep 3 kids happy (and clean!) while we wait. With a little searching on the internet and some creativity- we create our own “photo shoots” for holidays and print the pictures for just pennies at a super-center or drug store. I think fellow Hip2Save readers would like our recent shoot and a Happy Fall to all!!!
HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀
Do you have a funny, “Hip”, or unique photo to share?! Email us at happyfriday@hip2save(dot)com. Every Friday, I will post one photo, submitted by you and/or another Hip2Save reader, that gives us a glimpse into your frugal lifestyle or simply makes us smile. If your photo is published on Hip2Save, we’ll email you a $10 Amazon e-card!

OMG!!! Too cute!!! How adoreable are they!!!!
So Cute what a creative picture…
LOVE this idea! Any I totally agree with the studio, They are always “upselling” and by the the time we get to the studio and wait my kiddos are in a bad mood and don’t cooperate. I just take them to a local park and shoot them in their natural element of playing and if i get lucky they will gather together for me and let me take a few group silbling shots. I find great ideas and inspiration on pinterest.com 🙂
Those babies are precious! <3
cutttte!
This is super adorable! Thanks for sharing!
simply ADORABLE!
LOL, this is just too precious!
🙂
Oh my word! Why did I not do this to my twins 22 years ago! That shot would be worth having them sit in a cold pumpkin! I love it!
So cute!!! My daughter is graduating next year; and I am looking at an inexpensive way to do her graduation pictures!
@ toncatnavywife: is there an arts college near you? If so you may want to employ a photography student to photograph your daughter. The students are always looking for freelance work and you could help them hone their skill. My son, who’s currently a student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, took several of his friends Senior portraits. They came out amazing. When I got his done, by a seasoned professional, he used a lot of the same techniques my son did so they had a good time talking about photography.
I will have to look into that! (thanks!)..my cousin is a photographer part time; but she lives in Indiana & would only charge me for the film…we had the picture done for the yearbook in that black & white drape over the summer, but she wants some type of outdoorsy type of picture to put in her graduation invitations, the studio that did her yearbook picture, charges a small sitting fee, BUT their cheapest (I dread that word, lol) package is 250.00….she recently came home w/ the price list for her cap and gown, which is odd b/c when I graduated it was loaned to us, the tassle was a gift from the school…not now, everything has to be purchased by the family…so this is going to be an expensive year, I want her to have every opportunity, but if I can cut some costs here and there….I’m going to try! (we are saving for a down payment on a house!)
A thought. Could you purchase a cap and gown from one of last year’s graduates or are they using a different color?
try purchasing a cap and gown from previous graduates! the class size at my high school is about 550, so its super easy to find someone your size willing to sell for cheap!
That’s adorable!!
It’s so cute!! 🙂 <3
Beautiful babies. 🙂 Great Idea on the pictures.
Absolutely precious, thank you for sharing!!!

So Precious!!!!!!!!!!! I love this! I am with you on the prices of Studios….It is outrageous!!! I am taking my daughter and niece this weekend and am going to do their pictures in a cotton field across the street from our house. I am thinking these will make some really cute fall pics and I don’t have to worry about cropping out things.
What sweet babies you have Melanie. You are truly blessed.
Ok. That’s pretty much the cutest baby pic ever!
You did an amazing job!!! I know several families who take their own seasonal photographs and they all come out amazing!!
So cute! Please send Baby dust my way we have been trying to have a baby for two years.
Baby thoughts sent your way!
I hope this doesn’t come across as harsh because I don’t mean it to be this way but have you thought about ‘not’ trying?
So many people who try for years but can’t conceive finally ‘give up’ and end up pregnant when they least expect it. Putting too much pressure on your body can cause issues.
My brother and his wife tried for years and went through treatments and decided to look into adoption instead. A year later they found out they were 3 months pregnant and I now have an adorable 4 year old niece.
Good luck to you!
I agree with Annie. It was the 1950s/60s and my mother resigned herself to not having children after she had tried for eight years. She didn’t get pregnant until she was stressed with the illness of her father. To hear my mother tell it, it seems that stress helped my mother get pregnant all three times! And I have a twin sister, so that stress event was a doosey!
I don’t mean to make light of the sadness and frustration of not conceiving, I just wanted to say that there seems to be some truth to the benefit of focusing on something else for a while.
Best of luck to you Susanna.
I agree with Annie too. We tried for 4 years for a 2nd baby. After two miscarriages, we turned to the doctors for help. They put me on medicine to help stimulate my ovaries and egg production. I had to take ovulation predictors daily for many months. It became a ‘chore’ and it was all unsuccessful. Finally, they told me that they could no longer help me and I would have to now seek fertility treatments (this was in mid-August 2010). We decided that since we already had one wonderful child we would not do fertility.
So we had basically given up hope that we would have our 2nd child. Less than 2 months later (October 2010) I found out that we were pregnant!! It was the most wonderful SURPRISE! We were no longer trying but also still not preventing. Now we are blessed with a handsome 5 month old son 🙂
After all of that when I hear of people trying, I always suggest to ‘not try’. That is what worked for us. We just needed them to tell us it was not going to happen.. our focus shifted back on the normal life routine and it came.
I wish you the best of luck!
So cute! When my daughter was 3 months old, we put her in a pumpkin (no leg holes) and took some pics. Great pics.
Cutest thing ever!!! 🙂
So Creative… I love it 🙂

So adorable. Made my day!!!
too cute!!! I’m going to suggest this idea to my sister. How adorable!
LOL, love it, just too cute! I thought I was the only one who did at home pictures. I agree, my triplets just turned four and I have feared trying to go to a studio with them (very hard to entertain the three) and always figured there was a catch to those special advertised prices.
AWWWW! That is such a great idea! Those twins are adorable Melanie!
I love this picture!!
You are a very creative and wonderful photographer!
What beautiful children.
My son and daughter-in-law are expecting twins. What a wonderful idea!
Love this photo. Great job!
Like it? I LOVE IT! Your babies are so incredibly cute! 🙂
thats an awsum idea! i love it.. such cuties,, I wish my little monster wud stay put long enough for a pic like this..
baby’s are so cute
Absolutely one of the cutest pics I have seen! Beautiful children, and what a setting. Wish I could come up with ideas like this! Congrats to you, Mom, with your wonderful imagination-and give them all a hug. 🙂
I do the same thing! I hate going to those studios, and plus they can never get my kids to smile 🙁 So I pay all that money for pics of my kids not even smiling, not worth it.
Cutie pie! God bless!
Awww. Too cute!
I would like to know where you get ideas from the internet. I am always trying to find ideas for my three kiddos, but they normally are all boring, just standing there ideas. Where do these creative ones come from?
So cute. To bad my twins are three and don’t fit into a pumpkin anymore.
Cute pic! I have twins and photo shoots were the worst when they were small.
What an amazing, creative, and adorable picture! I absolutely love it, and the kiddos are such cuties!
