There was a hallmark coupon in the issue of parents I got today also!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Also in the Martha Stewart Deb issue magazine!!!

  2. yvonne

and $1 off revlon product (target coupon) in oct. and nov. issue of Shape Magazine that I got for free on this site. Thanks Collin!

  3. shannon

the betty crocker bars are priced about $1-$1.50 at our local gas station!

  4. Kristi

Yes the bars are right around $1.50 usually. I was so so excited to try those when I had different coupon, they sounded so good! I’m sad to report they actually taste more like an icky health bar with zero “healthy” perks. =(

  5. brandimc

Any of you go through coupon burnout? LOL. I had to take a week off looking at them, and just spend time with family.
I’m so tired of clipping coupons. I have a huge pile of inserts and I just don’t have the energy or time to clip them all. There must be an easier way. 😉

I know it’s worth it, cause I saved 47 dollars on my last shopping trip, but still, it’s very consuming!

On a lighter note, thank you Collin for all you do! You have helped us save so much and we continue to learn so much about being smart with our money.

I know how you feel!! I feel like I am always chasing sales and cutting coupons and it does get really tiring….

    • MaryAnn

I agree with you I get this way as well. I just have to take a week off sometimes to keep my sanity. Also I have found that the clipless coupon method has been so much easier and I don’t feel like I am falling behind on my coupons constantly.

    • Judy k

Last summer I just dumped all my coupons in the trash and took a break for a couple weeks. It felt great : )

    • Chris

I totally understand, After 5months being a newbie…the time, stress of the cashiers and stores because I knew there policy better, being mis treated because I use coupons. I found that I was changing, I talked not so nice to a cashier whom was nasty and was not happy with my own behavior so, I took a 5 MONTH break, throw a move in there, I just enjoyed the time with the kids in the summer in the yard in the pool, reading books again. Things got low and I kinda volunteered my knowledge to get free toothpaste and floss as now I am going to get them free for a local program here that offers assistance to family’s in need. I dont mind I was giving all the low cost toys I scored from coupons. It’s really great to help, I had never been able to do so. Things ran out here so needed to start again. I was able to get 9 toothpaste so far….it makes me wish I hadn’t stoped so I can help even more…but now I’m on a mission!!! lol Starting with an empty binder was A LOOONNNG task, to much time. I saved over three hundred this past 2 weeks and that smile came out of the savings. Collin’s last target deals I did tonight, saved $65, walmart saved $70 and $45. I think I’m never done learning a new way to make it easier and faster, and boy do i hope to come up with some even better ways.

For a long while I was cutting out EVERY coupon. It got exhausting. I’ve started just putting whole inserts into a large binder and then when Colin (or one of the other coupon bloggers I follow) posts a coupon, I know exactly where to find the coupon. That way I only ever cut the coupons I need. Typically you can throw inserts away after about 3 months but I always flip through just to check. There might be one or two coupons left over. If they’re a product I think I MIGHT even use, I either just rip that page out and put it in the back of the binder or go ahead and cut it out. The only other coupons I cut out are ones I am almost 100% positive I will use. I keep those coupons in a much smaller binder in my purse/car. Will you miss out on a few deals by doing this? Yes. Is it worth the time you save by not clipping every single coupon? For me, yes. It would definitely be worth a shot.

      • K

I do the exact same thing! I kept getting behind with the clipping, getting 5 papers and trying to cut them all every week just to throw them away was not worth it to me. Now I just separate the like pages, staple them, print a list of coupons that are in it (in alphabetical order), and stick them in clear pages in my binder. Then I cut out what I need and throw away what I don’t after they expire. Its nice because I sometimes get different coupons then what are on the sales lists, so before I make my list to go shopping I can just look at my list of coupons and see if I really have it or not. When I cut the coupons I kept thinking I was missing my coupon! Knowing what I have is so nice! And it takes me an hour max every week to get ready and go instead of 3 hours cutting and sorting and throwing out the ones that expired

    • Ashley

couponing does get stressful 🙁 like every other newbie I went hog wild for deals then I got fed up with it, used some of my stockpile and in about a month I was fully refreshed and ready to snag some deals 🙂 But I also learnt like everything else in life, balance is key 🙂 Good luck everyone 😀

After 43+ years of marriage/couponing, I’ve learned a couple of tricks that work(ed) for me. 1st, I collate like inserts – ie, I take however many copies I end up with of any given insert, spread them out around me, and put same pages together. That way when I’m ready to cut, I can gang-cut them; eyeball to get an idea how much margin to allow so that you don’t inadvertantly cut off a date or upc code. Also facilitates filing.
I have a tote bag that is approx the size of inserts (~ 10″x12″). I load up what needs clipping + a comfortable pair of scissors and always take it with me, & then always take it back into the house with me – kind of like a 2nd purse. That way when I’ve got a few spare or otherwise unusable minutes (waiting for a child at practice or listening to a friend on the phone who likes to talk, etc., I can be clipping).
When my kids were small, when they were watching tv, I handed everybody some coupons to clip & a pair of scissors. By the time they entered kindergarten, they had the best fine motor skills in the class. My husband was a good sport & he would clip right along with them to set a good example (he’s the 1 who came up with the collating idea).
I keep the inserts after clipping what I need/might need in a box, in chronological order, so that if I hear of a really good deal or a friend needs something, I can easily lay my hands on it, recycling after most of the coupons inside have expired.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

yes, i too get burned out from time to time. I take a break, do my normal shopping (with or without coupons) for the week. The biggest thing is to get UNPLUGGED! Step away from the computer. I might miss a freebie or good deal, but it clears my head. Some days I”m online from 8 am until the kids get home from school! (not straight as I do housework too) But it just seems like all my time is spent being online constantly checking here, or doing swagbucks, facebook, cking email, facebook. Now, I will ck h2s only Sat evening when the the ads are up. Sunday is unplugged completely.

    • Rose

I have found a balance that works for me. I no longer file them in a binder. I only cut the ones I know i will use. I date and file all the inserts so easy to find when a deal is posted for a product we will use. It is so much more relaxing and enjoyable to shop without chasing deals we really don’t need. I have plenty of beauty products, cleaning products, and personal care items. I only do a couple deals each week. I love not chasing deals on products i really dont use or dont need no matter how good the deal if i dont use it i dont spend my time doing it.

  9. Sarah

How much do the bounce 6 month bars sell for, anyone know?

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

FYI-I just printed the Little Tikes $3 off $30 or more and it expires 11/20/11….I was hoping for a little bit more time for Christmas shopping.

  11. DP

Where are the bars located? With the candy or granola bars?

  12. Terri

One time I threw away all of my coupons, not even in the recycle bin I threw them in the garbage and dumped the coffee grounds on top of them. I had had enough of clipping, sorting, organizing etc. I started fresh a few weeks later and still use coupons but in a smaller, simpler way. I don’t run around for all the deals and if I am at Walgreens or Cvs I certainly look for the goodies but I don’t chase deals anymore. I love Hip2save and I love to save my hard earned money but pick what is important to you.

    • MaryAnn

I actually gave away all of my coupons on freecycle one time and started over fresh. I knew if I threw them away I would dig them back out so I gave them away and started over a lot smaller and simpler. Now I have more time to spend actually as a stay-at-home mom.

    • Judy k

      Exactly!

    • Chris

HAAA I did the same with the coffee grounds, only I gave it a break for 5 months, I am NOT chasing anymore deals either, knowing more come is my anchor to not chase.

  13. Wilmama4

I clicked on the rebate form for the dryer bar and got an error code, anyone else have that problem?

  14. Thea

I agree! i am a single mom and student. i have only been couponing for a couple of months now and at first it was hard but then i became obsessed. i even have dreams about clipping coupons! lol. i go to the store EVERY other day. and it is a little stressful. the cashiers at Walmart are starting to get an attitude with me and they are acting like they dont wanna scan the coupons anymore. My stockpile isnt big at all. im fairly new so im trying to decide if i should take a break now or just continue until the stockpile gets bigger then take a break.

    • K

I know how it feels to be a mom and a student (though I’m not a single mom and I can’t imagine how tough that would be) I don’t think you have to take a break, but if it helps you maybe could just not go as much. For me I pick 1-2 days a week max to shop. I also try to limit myself to 2 stores each week. Before I was hauling my 2 daughters (and sometimes the kids I babysat which was 2 more for a total of 4 kids) with me to 4+ stores multiple days out of the week, and it just wasn’t worth it. So now that I’ve cut back, I enjoy it more. I still get the great deals, but I’m not wasting every day going to a million stores. The deals always come back around, so if you missed one its ok, you will have another chance. Getting the good deals is not worth stressing you out and taking up all your time needed for your school work and for your family. Thats how I feel at least. I hope the best for you and your family! Just remember, couponing saves a lot of money, but money isn’t everything.
