I recently discovered that Dollar Tree sells pregnancy tests… for only $1!!! I was hesitant to believe that these tests would really work, so I did a google and youtube search and sure enough, they’re just as reliable as the MUCH more expensive name brand options. And I can vouch for the $1 test first-hand – I’m pregnant and got a positive read with the $1 test on the day before my missed period!!! Stop wasting your money on the expensive name brand pregnancy tests and head over to Dollar Tree!!! 🙂

Serious Congrats!!!!! Very excited for you.

    • lisa

lol I read this in a hurry. I thought it said YOU were pregnant, not the contributer. lol I need a coffee break.

  2. NewMommyConfessions (@NewMommyConfess)

Definitely! These things work just fine, I’ve used them before myself. I wish everyone knew so they would stop spending oodles of money on the “fancy” tests. If you’re taking a pregnancy test chances are that money can go towards something more useful…like diapers!

  3. Suzanne

Yes they really do work as well as the name brand!! I’ve used them twice and they were very accurate. 🙂

  4. Jill

I got a good chuckle out of this one, but it’s great information! And congrats!

  5. Christina

    Congrats

  6. Marty

oops my bad, I thought it said how to score pregnancy for $1!
Now that would be a great deal 🙂

  7. Suzie

When we were TTC our daughter I was a POAS aholic. I used the $1 ones almost every morning.. Then when I got a faint + I used the expnsive one that says pregnant or not…lol

  8. Amy

I can definately say they work WELL! I used one because I didnt want to waste my money on the more expensive tests and it was positive RIGHT away and I am indeed pregnant!

  9. Laura

I’ve heard other people recommend this before, but thanks for the reminder! Those tests are seriously overpriced.

  10. Linda

I agree! I used one and found out I was pregnant. Just to be sure, I used another one and it was also positive. So instead of using a super expensive test, I used 2 of the dollar store ones and only spent $2!

  11. Serena

    Congratulations 🙂

  12. Katie

I worked in ob for 3 years and these test are the same we used in office to verify…I have also used them with all my pregnancies include mu current one!

  13. SHOSH

ive used them also. they work great!

  14. Rachel

That is funny you mention that, I have seen them there for years… I was going to test the accurcy the last time I was pregnant but totally forgot to try it, I only had like 8 months but totally spaced it (gotta love pregnancy brain).

They also have ovulation predictors… Not at all sure about those either.

  15. Amanda

I can vouch for them as well, I used them & they worked fine. The only down side is, you have to pee in a cup and use the provided dropper to add the urine to the test

  16. Cindy

Walmart also sells an 0.88 brand, but I don’t know how reliable those are. I’ve been using internet cheapies that I got from Amazon.com (100 – yes I know! for $15!). Got my faint positive yesterday at only 9 DPO and confirmed with a First Response last night!

  17. Trish

Oh they definitely work!!!! When I was pregnant with my son I took one from the $1 store and it was positive and then I didn’t believe it so I bought 9 more from the $1 store and they were ALL positive!! 🙂

  18. Anthony

I will vouch for the fact that they work…they worked perfect for our 3

  19. Lisa

Another tip: you can order the pregnancy strips (no plastic case) on amazon. A pack of 25 is around $5! They have good reviews too. Instead of peeing on a stick, you pee in a cup and then hold the test strip in there. Super easy!

    • mary

Yup! That’s where I get mine too! Less than a buck and they are super sensitive. My last pregnancy I detected at 9 dpo. They also have super cheap ovulation test strips. Long live Wondfo!!! Ha!

  20. Stephanie

They are absolutely accurate! The purple box one is the one that I used when I found out I was pregnant 8 years ago!

  21. JBRD

I got SEVERAL negative tests on the Dollar Tree tests before finally getting a positive on a more expensive test. The last test I took a Dollar Tree and the regular test on the same day, more than a week after my missed period. I was pretty certain I was pregnant since I was sick and I’d been pregnant before.

  22. Bre

I bought these when I was pregnant with my 1st. I found out about them after I took my 1st expensvie test. I was paranoid so I wanted to test a lot until my 1st Doctors apt. The y worked just fine

  23. Kara

Yep, I’ve used those a lot and they were just fine, I’ve gotten some pretty early results with them. I also noticed that the WalMart near me now sells a similar one for only 88 cents.

  24. Jennifer

Awesome! CONGRATULATIONS! What a blessing to receive another bundle of joy!

  25. brooke

    Yup they do work!

  26. Samantha

    Awwww, that’s wonderful! Congrats!

  27. christal

    congrats on the new addition…

  28. brooke

FYI~ at my dollar general they are kept behind the counter and you have to ask for them (they get stolen a lot)

    • crystal

its crazy i bought some a while ago and they were empty when I got them home. I guess $1 is still too much for some.:(

    • Amanda

Wow, that’s sad. If people can’t afford a $1 pregnancy test, they probably can’t afford the child!

  29. lauren

I used the ovulation kits from the doller store and got pregnant the first time i used them.

  30. Rachael

The only thing that you have to watch for is that some medicines mess with the results. I was on fertility drugs and found out I was pregnant. I had to take the more expensive ones because the dollar store ones would not show up that I was. It did work when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter when I got pregant the old fashioned way.

    • Rachael

. . . Congrats on the new baby!!

  31. Megan

I used test strips like the ones in the link below, but I think I only bought 10 for about $2. I wanted to have a lot of them so I could take one almost everyday like Suzie. 🙂 The ones in the link below are $5.69 for 25 shipped free with Amazon.

Once I had a positive test, I took it for two more days and it got more and more obvious (darker lines). Now my baby is almost 4!

    • Mia Bean

      I used these too!

  32. Nicole

I’ve used those and the ICs (“Internet cheapies” from Amazon, that previous poster mentioned)…and they all work perfectly! I was able to get positive results on the tests about 4 days before my missed period in BOTH of my pregnancies!

  33. crystal

i used one of these in 2005 and got a faint positive 4 days before my period was due. They even have some sometimes at walmart for .88.!

  34. us4royers

Hmm I thought these were good too but my friends have had a few false negatives which is very sad when you are ttc. I was 3 days late and used a dollar tree test and didn’t have a line. I went back in the room ten minutes later and looked and it was slightly pink. Not enough to even hardly be able to see though my friend showed me how to take it apart to see it better and thought it was probably a line. I did end up having to buy another test got the off brand from family dollar which my friends told me about and immediately a bright line appeared. I would say dollar trees are not very reliable but the $4 test from family dollar worked well and I haven’t heard them giving false positives ever.

  35. Bethany

These do work great! I used them when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter almost 4 years ago and then again alittle over a year ago when pregnant with my son! The best part is you can buy like 4 of them and it is still cheaper than one in other stores. Yes, with my daughter I took 4 – all positive 🙂 Only took 2 with my son.

  36. kris

Yep, I wondered how reliable they would be but for a buck I gave it a try and it worked for me! They also sell these at Deals (owned by Dollar Tree) for $1.

  37. Amanda M

When we were trying to get pregnant, I bought 6 of them from the Dollar Tree. Every month, a few days before my expected period, I would take one. Negative 🙁 When I reached my 6th and final monthly Dollar Tree pregnancy test that I had previously purchased, I used it the day after I was expecting my period, with the full expectation of it being negative again. It was positive!! Now we have a beautiful 4 month old little girl!! 😀 I definitely would NEVER buy one of those expensive pregnancy tests, all you are paying for is the name and for it to tell you in words, “pregnant” or “not pregnant” I know I can decipher one line or two 😉

  38. Brittney

I was a POAS (Pee on a stick) addict as well… I use to buy First Response, and when I thought I was pregnant I bought about $60 worth of tests, and then discovered our Mighty Dollar sold them. After paying that much for First Response Early tests, I used $1 test, and it came up positive and the FR was negative every time.. so I definitely stick to these.

    • Brittney

Our dollar store never has them. I use to buy OPK’s from them, but they stopped stocking them. Every once in a while I’ll see the pregnancy tests there, so I stock up since I’ve been trying to get pregnant again for a while… Stupid endometriosis.

  39. Joan

Yes they are accurate and much cheaper. I discovered them a couple of years ago. Fyi they are a cup not a stick.

  40. Dorothy

I bought the test from Dollar Tree because I didn’t want to spend $15 if it was negative. Hubby and I were TTC, and I was one day late. So I used the test from Dollar Tree. It was a little odd because it came with a little dropper. You have to pee in a cup, then use the dropper to transfer the urine to the test. I thought it was negative, because there was no line after quite a few minutes. A few hours later, I had a weird feeling and went rummaging through the garbage for it. I noticed a VERY faint line. I ended up going to CVS for a Clear Blue. Sure enough….I’m due on Saturday! Long story, short, Dollar Tree pregnancy tests are accurate!

  41. kristinkay

This post came at a great time! Thanks Collin.

  42. qponklink

You can also get the strip style tests pregnancy and ovulation on Ebay and other places online cheap. I paid less than 10 dollars a few years ago for I think 20 ovulation prediction tests and 5 pregnancy.(May have gotten more it’s been about 3 years now)

  43. Bridget

Maybe I’m the odd ball here but they didn’t work for me. I kept getting negative results after I already knew I was pregnant by a digital test. It’s probably user error though. I’ve had 6 kids and I could never really tell if it was an evaporation line or a positive. I need a test to say “dummy, it’s positive!” lol.

    • Dorothy

LOL, I was the same way. I threw it away thinking it was negative, but I just knew I was pregnant. I got it out of the garbage and saw an EXTREMEMLY faint line…and wasn’t really sure what it meant. I followed up with a digital Clear Blue!

  44. Lara Hadfield

I have used these with my last three babies. They have been right for me all of the time. The positive and negative results. I would totally save your money on the expensive ones for something a little more fun.

  45. me

I have even a better deal!!! You can go to amazon and find Wondfo
pregnancy tests (the ones where you have to dip in a cup) and you can get like 20-50 of them for $5 bucks! I did it with my second one because I am so impatient and they worked fantastic! I would never go back. (Athough it’s not as convient as peeing on it)

  46. cdawnt

I wish more deals at Dollar Tree would be posted. I’m sure there are many, but Dollar Tree doesn’t have a website with all their products or a weekly flyer that I can find.

    • Amanda

Because everything’s a dollar and they don’t take coupons

    • Debbie

Yes they do have a website. It’s http://www.dollartree.com and you can see what they offer in stores, although not every store is going to have every product. I’ve found you can call a store and ask if they carry something from the website.

      • cdawnt

Thanks, you’re right! I guess it’s been a long time since I looked to see if they were online. They even post their ad on it. Thank you so much!

    • mommyspendsless

Just be careful of the sizing on packages – it’s not always a good deal. They almost got me with name brand shredded cheese until I realized the weight of the package was very small (2-3oz). That being said, I did get some L’Oreal and Almay eye makeup there last week, as well as some pretty nice silicone spatulas.

  47. Jenn

Funny you posted this because I just got a positive reading on this test this morning!

  48. Kristina

I bought two test with each of my three kids and they were right everytime. lol The dollar tree won’t take coupons here though. Boooo

  49. M.

Yep, used them for all 6 of my pregnancies and they work great. So do their ovulation tests.

  50. Rachel

Yup, they are accurate. I have a toddler running around to prove it!
