I recently discovered that Dollar Tree sells pregnancy tests… for only $1!!! I was hesitant to believe that these tests would really work, so I did a google and youtube search and sure enough, they’re just as reliable as the MUCH more expensive name brand options. And I can vouch for the $1 test first-hand – I’m pregnant and got a positive read with the $1 test on the day before my missed period!!! Stop wasting your money on the expensive name brand pregnancy tests and head over to Dollar Tree!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Not to be the downer…but I’ve had false positives from those multiple times. I also have friends that have had them say negative, only to take a more expensive test and it be a legitimate pregnancy.

    • Kat

I use them also!! I have had 4 children and used the $1 ones everytime. It is usually user error if you get the wrong reading. Also, I work at 2 different hospitals and we basically use the same tests! Just FYI! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Kendrix

But, some of te expensive tests can give you a false positive as well! The only real way to find out for definite is to go see a doctor to find out!

  2. Lara

Congratulations on the pregnancy. I wish you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby! I have used these as well and they totally work.

  3. Holly

Dollar General sells them too :). These tests are the exact same testing mechanism.. however earlier in your pregnancy these may not be as sensitive, but at 4-6 weeks, these are as accurate at the 10+ dollar tests

  4. Theresa Mills

I’ve always recommended these to my friends TTC. I “knew” I was prego with my 2nd and I kept taking these tests and they would be negative and then the next morning turn positive. I was testing super early.. I think I was less than 4 weeks along. After 7 “false negatives” I bought a digital test and got the “pregnant” result right away. Needless to see my daughter has been high maintence since in the womb! My point is they work… just might not show up (as with any test) if you test early.

  5. Crystal

I use WONDFO’s. I got an ovulation/preg test combo pack. 40 ovulation tests & 20 Preg tests for 13.00 Shipped. So, that averaged out to about 22 cents a test. You may not need ovulation tests, but we had a miscarriage in December and after out Dr gave us the OK to proceed, we wanted to start tracking. I purchased 1 digital test to confirm when I get a positive WONDFO.

  6. Ali

These worked for me as well! I won’t buy anything else! I didn’t believe I was pregnant the first time I took one, so bought another and it was positive again. Just to be safe I went and bought a digital one, it was also positive. Bottom line- they are just as reliable as the more expensive brands! So glad someone thought to share this idea! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. cwmmak

i have always had good luck with the $1 ones! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. DeAnna

When I was TTC I looked up which tests were the most sensitive (i.e. let you know sooner) and the Dollar Tree was one of the highest and some of the big names were waaaaay down at the bottom. Save your money and buy the ones at the dollar stores.

  9. Ashley

this is how I found out I was prego this time, however I got “nervous” that it could be wrong because it was very faint and went out and bought an expensive one anyway lol

    • Anonymous

Very faint can mean very early – I was only 3 weeks pregnant when mine came out a very faint positive!

      • Rebecca

Exactly. Also, remember “3 weeks” pregnant is only 1 week actual gestation.

  10. Mega B

Our Commissary sells these same tests too! Worth the $1 especially when you like to take more than one test to be sure. These are also the same tests that a lot of “FREE Clinics” use. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

  11. Michelle

I have been using these for years! Especially after I realized that they are the exact ones they use at planned parenthood and many doctors offices ๐Ÿ™‚ They come in different packaging, but if you look closely it is the same thing!

    • Kat

It is the same ones!! We use these at the 2 different hospitals I work at!

  12. Frugal Jen | Frugal, Freebies and Deals

I have done research, too and over all they seem to work just fine. But I always find it ironic to so them next to the $1 condoms…

    jen

    • Frugal Jen | Frugal, Freebies and Deals

      to SEE them..

  13. Erin L

This is the only brand I use! I’m currently pregnant with baby #2 and both times, these tests confirmed my pregnancy very early on! Its such a great deal!

  14. AM

    Congrats to all expecting!!!

This brings me back to about a year ago when my hubby and I started trying. I felt a bit nauseated and during my lunch break I went to CVS, bought one (didn’t even care about price or coupon) test and did it right at work. It was (+). On the way home, I went back to CVS and bought FOUR different brands and did them all at home with the same results. Overall I probably spent $60 that day and even though I try to save money on everything, I really didn’t care that day!! My baby girl is worth every penny ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Nicole

I have used them for 2 pregnancies and they work wonders. Will never waste my money on the expensive ones!

    • Erin

I agree! I used these with both of my pregnancies and they were both perfectly accurate every time. With both tests I was 5-6 weeks pregnant. I will never pay more than $1 for a pregnancy test. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Juli

They do work. After spending lots of money $$ with 3 children my fourth pregnancy I picked one up at the dollar tree because my sister did the same thing. Sure enough it really works like the $$ ones!

  17. Beth

I’m not a doctor, but I don’t believe you can get a false positive from a pregnancy test. These test measure HCG, which is only produced when you are pregnant. If you believe it was a false positive, you likely were pregnant and miscarried. You CAN get false negatives from these tests if you test too early. That being said, I use the cheapy ones that you buy on the internet and have always found them to be reliable. Save yourself some $ and buy the cheap ones. They work just as well as the name brands.

    • Brit

Sometimes, the tests that have blue dye (ie blue line or + signs) in them can show what is called an “evaporation line.” This is what makes it look like it’s positive, even if it is negative. I’m not sure why it does that, but I know of people that have had evap positives when they aren’t actually pregnant. The test that have pink/red dye (ie, pink lines) are supposed to be less likely to have evap lines.

  18. kelli

I have also found some at my local walmart for $0.88!!

  19. Robin

I find it funny that a couponing guru could miss this one, but it just proves how important it is to share ideas with everyone who has common interests! Keep in mind ladies that any test can prove to be unreliable, missing a period, being in tune with your body and seeing the doc is most reassuring!

  20. Angela R

I discovered these after my second one. I’ll agree, when I tested earlier for this third one, it was negative – but by the time I was six weeks, it was positive. So, definitely not for the anxious who need to know the minute they’re pregnant, but if you’re fine with knowing a little later, I’d say it’s worth the save ๐Ÿ˜‰ I kept a nice stock on hand!

    • mommyspendsless

“So, definitely not for the anxious who need to know the minute theyโ€™re pregnant, but if youโ€™re fine with knowing a little later”

I couldn’t imagine waiting to find out!!

  21. Brandie Banks

They worked for me, so I was able to show HUbby on our Anniversary that we was going to have another one! WOOHOO thank goodness for $ stores

  22. Emily

I second the WONDFO brand. Peeonastick.com says they’re just as reliable. I buy the 50 pack for 9.80 so I can test away without feeling guilty. I have the First Response Early digital ones tucked away for confirmation whenever necessary (cross your fingers for us — started trying for our first at the start of the year!)

According to my OB, nearly all false positives with any pregnancy test are user error (reading outside the time window, too much or too little pee–too much washes away the dye on the cheaper tests and too little leads to evap lines, or peeing in the wrong place which can just totally break the test)

    • Cynthia

lol. I like that there is such a thing as “peeonastick.com”
      ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Lisa

I used the Dollar tree ones to find out about both of my babies (6yrs old and 2yrs old)!

  24. karla

I am an over- pregnancy tester.. I use tons all the time. And I only use Dollar Tree brand! I can use so many for the price of one expensive one! I have found out about 4 pregnancies with them!!! Dont spend more!!

  25. Shannon Gregory

Ive done research on pregnancy tests and have used them all including these but I do remember one site that compared a bunch of different brands of tests and the Wal Mart brand was one of the top 3 for early pregnancy testing results and those tests are only around $4 the dollar brand did not rate as high for early pregnancy testing

  26. Carolyn

I have used these for all 4 of my pregnancy’s and all of them have been right on. I love how they are inexpensive but work just as well as the more expensive ones. My doctors office actually told me about them and it’s what they use as well.

  27. kara

I have been buying these for the past 4 years and I love them!. They work great

  28. A_B

I was over 6 weeks pregnant took one of these and it said NEGATIVE .. do NOT recommend these!!!!!!!!

    • Erin

While I wasn’t 6 weeks pregnant, I was well within the number of weeks post period to take the test. I took it as recommended and got negative results. Not convinced, I took an EPT the next day and discovered I really was pregnant with DD now 21 months. ๐Ÿ™‚ For a dollar, it’s worth a try. But don’t trust them enough to allow risky behavior (drinking, etc.).

  29. Rebecca

Congratulations; happy & healthy 9mo and beyond!
Yes, from personal experience, dollar store preg test really DO work accurately. I learned very quickly not to waste money on those expensive tests – especially if you POAS a lot. ๐Ÿ˜›
I save even more and pay less than $1/test by ordering stick tests online (from https://www.tcoyf.com/store.aspx?shop ) that are super sensitive down to 20 mIU/ml – that’s more sensitive than expensive e.p.t. That means you can begin testing accurately just 6 to 8 days after conception – well before your first missed period. I’ve personally gotten an accurate faint positive as early as 7dpo (days past ovulation) – over 4 days before my period was due.

    I love the “Early-Detection Pregnancy Tests” [yes, cheesy name] – (https://astore.amazon.com/ovusoft-20/detail/B000GHZZOS )
“Early-Detection Pregnancy Tests”: Pack of 5 Tests
    Order Summary
    Items: $4.30
    Shipping & Handling (3-5 bus. days): $0.00
    ——————————————————————————–
    Total Before Tax: $4.30
Estimated Tax To Be Collected:* $0.00
    ——————————————————————————–
    Order Total: $4.30
That’s $0.86 per test! Sometimes they’re even cheaper! Just remember to order in time for them to arrive before you plan to test. (Obviously ordering isn’t convenient for last minute testing.)

They now have a new Early-Detection Pregnancy Test sensitive down to 10 mlU/ml, which are also much cheaper than the expensive tests – even after including shipping! ( https://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/extra-sensitive-pregnancy-test.html )

Compare the sensitivity of different pregnancy tests here:
    https://www.peeonastick.com/hpts.html

I’m not affiliated with any of these companies; I’m just a diligent, frugile POAS’er. Happy POAS! ๐Ÿ˜€

  30. Brittany Ward-Harris

Congrats on the pregnancy! I can vouch for these tests. When I was just 5 weeks along I took one and got a faint positive but a positive. If you do take these I suggest taking them early in the morning like when you’re first getting out of bed to get the best results.

  31. Carolyn M.

    Congratulations!

  32. Amanda W.

I use these tests all the time!!!

  33. kiesha r.

I used these for results of both of my children and they really worked for me. Then I went to the doctor for another test of conformation and sure enough, both times using these $1 tests were right!!

  34. hannah

I’ve had both my boys with results from dollar tree tests!

  35. Mary

Walmart has pregnancy tests for 88 cents in the 88cent section in the paper products isle.

  36. navywife0712

Wal-Mart also offers pregnancy test for 88 cents at some stores!

    • navywife0712

It’s in a different section than the normal pregnancy tests though. It’s in the discount medication side. The pharmacy will know where they are if you ask.

    • Lori

I thought I saw these in Arkansas at our Wal-Mart. They had a whole endcap of 88 cent items.

    • Melinda

I was just coming here to post that, our walmart has an entire endcap of 88c items now including pg tests! Super excited about that since the nearest dollar tree is 30 minutes away!

  37. Kim C.

I used these and they gave me false negatives. I was between 4-5 weeks pregnant at the time so my HCG levels may not have been high enough. So yea, if you are a little further along they may be a money saver, but for me… I ended up buying the more expensive test anyway to get my almost instant positive ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck to y’all trying to conceive and newly pregnant!

  38. Brianna

The cheapie Commissary ones do not work! I had been testing regularly for months for our 2nd kiddo because it took years to get our 1st. I figure I would save the money this time around because I had spent more than $300 on expensive tests. Anyways, I went in for my annual and the Doctor discovered I was pregnant, more than 5 months along! I never got a positive test with these. The Dr. said they all work the same, but in my opinion I disagree. Next time I will go back to the expensive digital ones.

  39. Lori

I have been using these for years and had great results! Don’t know why anyone would pay for the more expensive ones. ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Jennifer

I actually used only the dollar store pregnancy tests when I thought I was pregnant. My periods are irregular anyway, so I didn’t want to waste money on the more expensive brands. All 3 times I had a positive, and then my doc confirmed the pregnancy; so I they worked pretty well for me!

  41. Vironika Woll

With both my kids I didn’t worry until my second missed period because my periods have always been soo unpredictable–I used $1 tree tests and tested positive with each baby, then I scheduled my appointments! Why spend a ton of money on something you are just going to (pardon me) pee on?! Then it goes in the trash! False negatives happen all the time with the expensive brands–usually because they are used too early (in my opinion)-I hate spending money on stuff that just goes right in the trash! Save your money girls! You’ll have more to buy adorable baby clothes!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  42. Sarah

They always worked for me. Also the 99 cent store has them for the same price.

  43. Allyson

I used one and it DID NOT WORK!!! I was several weeks preggo and it gave me a negative result. I am all about saving money but I will stick to my EPT coupons!! Consider yourself warned, I have a 2 1/2 year old to prove that I was really pregnant.

  44. kath

LOL I have been using these for years. They are spot on. Never been wrong for me.

  45. sandy

Flipping hilarious because with my first kiddo I used the expensive brand and it said “negative”. A month later I find out I really was preggers. With my second kiddo I got one from the 99ยข store. BAM it said positve. Yep I was preggers. Any @ home test can give you false positve/negative results. It doesn’t matter if it’s the expensive brand or the dollar store one. The only way to find out for sure is when you head to your doctor’s office ๐Ÿ™‚

  46. Twila

Does anyone know if they carry a $1 Monistat type product? Talk about expensive!

  47. kimberly

I took these with both my kids and they said positive. I did take 2 of these with my first and then a name brand one and all said the same. When I was pregnant with my last one I used the dollar one 1 time and it said positive and I was. Congrats

  48. Danielle

I have used these before, but recently found an even better deal on amazon! Wondfo pregnancy tests are $5.69 shipped (with Amazon prime) for 25 tests… yes, that’s right! $0.23 per test people! And they got excellent reviews too. I saw they also carry super cheap ovulation tests too!

  49. Pam

That’s how I found out I was pregnant with my second. Used the expensive tests with my first.

  50. Mel

I’ve found the pregnancy tests as well as the ovulation tests to be very reliable. Certainly worth a try. I guess no product works without fail, but for us it worked quite well.
