I got 3. One will not charge at all (it has been charging all night….)

In reading the directions the battery is NOT replaceable, the software is meant for Windows 98, the reviews are horrible with tons of complaints on multiple sites.

I am giving serious consideration to returning these…..this may explain why some of you note that the players you got lost night seem used…..they probably were 🙁

Still appreciative of Hip2Save though 😉

    • Karen

      *last night

      • Melissa

My store had signs up at all of the electronics clearance items that said NO RETURNS. My clerk said she didn’t want to be rude but didn’t recommend buyig them since they were marking receipts so they could not be returned. Not sure if all the stores were doing this.

        • Karen

Thanks for the heads up……worst case I am out the tax, I guess. There were no signs up in my store nor was anything on my receipt. I intend to return at least the one non-working item and would hope others would do the same if they are unfortunate too…..Free or not, junk is junk and CVS shouldn’t be selling garbage.
I know, I know……buyer beware and you get what you pay for and all that……but still……

      • Darlene

I bought one last night and when I got home found out it was used. I took it right back this morning and they tried to say no return but I told the manager he was not going to sell me a use player with missing pieces he complain at first and said he didn’t have any more but then went in the back and happen to find a new one.

    • CW

Karen my husbands’ career is Information Tech. We attempted to buy this MP3 player as well as a tablet they had and other electronics from this same brand several months ago. They were all garbage. But it was so long ago that we were able to return them, I guess the store policy changed because everyone was returning them. What you read about Windows 98 is right, its all outdated and/or slow. Dont waste your money! 🙂

      • Karen

        CW Thanks 😉
I have managed to get one working, so I feel a small victory. I will definitely return the one and keep the others…..even if only for my husband to play with and use this summer while mowing the lawn lol.
The multiple grammatical errors in the instruction booklet are another sign of low quality, lol.
For others…..I didn’t even bother with the disc they included. I just dragged and dropped the sample music that came on my computer and it worked just fine.
Plan to just load up with music from our CD collection.
I have a tablet and now appreciate its touch screen so much more….this thing isn’t very sensitive and takes several “taps” to get it to do what you want.
Not worth $10, but worth the tax…..as long as it works 😉

Bottom line ~ don’t feel too bad if you missed out on the deal 🙂

    • Sandra

On mine, the sound quality is actually quite good. But I had to swap out the earbuds that came with it for higher quality earbuds to get the sound quality to come through. And I discovered if I push the earphones in all the way, the sound only plays in one ear, so I have to push it in about 90%, which is not a problem as the earbud connecter stay in just fine there. Still, once I got past this eccentricities, it sounds very good. Maybe those hints will help someone else. The video quality, on the other hand, stinks. Just a bunch of pixilated patches of green and red. For less than $1 for tax only, I’ll take it for the audio, though, anyday! Good for little kids, too.

      • Karen

Sandra Thanks for the tip about the ear buds….I haven’t tried those yet. With one that is essentially a paper weight at this point, guess I will mix/match until I find a combo that works as best as possible.

Again, we got what we paid for 😉

        • Sandra

As for my statement “good for kids”, I notice folks commenting on the lead in cord warning, so maybe not. But maybe not any worst than any other corded plug in device that kids use. I’m going to check my son’s DS manual to see if it has the same qualifier in the fine print for the cord. I know I’ve seen this qualifier on many household cords. I did some reading on this subject a coupole of years ago when I was pregnant, and the disclaimer is something required by California law.

          • Sandra

Also, since I swithed out the earbuds, maybe I have minimized that problem…must go read my “higher quality” earbud package (sony) lol!

  2. Myrna

Went to my CVS as soon as I saw this, and they had about 10 on the shelf. I know the cashir there, so Iwas able to get 4 and then they had the Craig 7″ portable dv player on clearance for 19.99, so I was able to grab a couple of those, too. What a great trip to CVS. Thanks for giving us a heads-up on this deal.

  3. Karizma

If anyone wants to sell one, that’s not damaged, I’d pay $10 for one. Clackpower33@yahoo.com

    • Amanda

I bought two last night, and could sell you one if you are interested. I haven’t opened either one yet though, so I don’t know if they work. mandyjoy83@yahoo.com

  4. JE

Were you able to get the cash card on all 4?

  5. Heather

I don’t understand how the juicy juice is free? Don’t you have to buy one?

    • mel

The store is giving you one free with the sale.
Then you use the BOGO coupon as payment, netting 2 free (depending on the max value of the BOGO coupon, if its up to $4.99 they yeah 2 free, but say its $4.79, then you’d pay .20 and tax if applicable for both juices.)

      • Heather

Thanks! Do you know if I could use 2 coupons? That way I could get 4 for free? I’m so new to this. Sorry 🙁

  6. ann

I called 2cvs stores as soon as I saw this yesterday and both cashiers told me that its $50 so I didn’t go. I live sarasota area florida.

    • Linda

I live in Tampa and although they weren’t marked down, when the cashier scanned them they were only $9.99 – they had no idea until I asked!

      • Vironika Woll

Same here-the cashier had to pull it out of the display case and ran price check at the coupon machine and when she saw the sale she grabbed one too! These didn’t even have the 49.99 sale tag, they were still priced at 79.99.

        • kelly

I called four different CVS’s in Tampa and they where all sold out except one that still had them $49.99.

  7. debra

Yay, Scored 3 this am in Eastern MA. One of the packaging is a plastic bubble pack. It showed as 89.99 but rang up 9.99 with the $10 cash card back. I was so excited as my sons birthday is next month and this is perfect for a 7yr old to start with!

    • Erin

I was excited, too. Til I saw the back of the package, where it warns you to wash your hands after handling the cord because of lead!

      • debra

Oh My, Thanks for the heads up Erin. Maybe not such a good idea after all. Sometimes deals are too good to be tru for a reason. I think they are clearing them off the shelves on purpose.

      • Kandy

I was thinking about letting my 6 year old have it but after reading this I think not.

  8. jolly

Yippee!!! I got one too. Thanks Colin

  9. mimi

as soon as i heard of this i went to check it out. it says 50.00 but they ring up for 10.00. Me, my sister and my brother in law each got two. what a great deal!!!

  10. Pat

Yea if anyone is willing to sell one of the craigs they got I’ll buy one.

    gsnmatt@gmail.com

  11. edy

My cousin lives in west dallas and she went to cvs last night I send her a text and picture of mp3players and she said they had plenty! She got the ZONE $4.99 the wireless air 60 reg.39.99 for 4.99 and a ice cream maker 1.00 and zhus accesories 1.00 the ZONE and mp3players last night @ 10:30 RIGHT now the ice cream maker and other games she just called me!

  12. Candace

I ran out last night and bought 2. After reading all these comments and checking the back of the package (yes it says the handling the cord exposes you to lead) I am going to try and return these. Ill even give back the Cash Cards… I just want my money back.

    • Sandra

Have you ever noticed also that Christmas lights say the same thing? I think many or all extension cords have trace amounts of lead, don’t they, and have the same disclaimer if you read the fine print.

      • Karen

IMO, I would be more worried about the germs on grocery carts. To worry about this is like stressing about being exposed to cocaine from handling $20 bills. *IF* there is lead on these it would be minimal and your only exposure is if you put your hands in your mouth after handling the cord.
The warning to me is akin to food items that all now seem to say “this product may have been produced on equipment that has been exposed to peanut product”
It is all just legal CYA……we should all be washing our hands more anyway….you would be grossed out if you could actually see what was on your computer keyboard right now 😉

        • shamus

you are so right maybe people shouldn’tget ths great deal if theyre scared and leave them for the people who really want them. i do agree maybe not so good to give a child thats always putting their hands in their mouths. ‘

        • Vironika

LOL @ cocaine on $20 bills! I have OCD about many things, but that one even made ME laugh! I like the way you think, Karen! I was getting discouraged reading all these complaints, but now I feel a little better 😀

          • Karen

            😉

  13. Elizabeth

Seems like they are real iffy. Can anyone that has used put their review on here. Seems like with gas on the rise it might be a loss to run around town for one of these to end with nothing or junk. Thank you!

    • Sandra

My review is posted on comment 201 above. We travel and are in hotels a lot for competitive sports, and it is perfectly fine for the money I paid for that purpose. If it gets lost or left behind, I’m out less than a dollar. The video quality stinks, but the audio is quite good (with decent earbuds), and I’m not sure how much little kids crowded in hallways waiting for events to start care about video quality anyway. No more “Mom can I have your phone…”

      • Sandra

Just to clarify, you can see the video…and certainly make out what is going on in it. But it isn’t the greatest quality…there are patches which appear more green and red than they should. But like I said, for the price, and for little kids, it is fine, at least for me.

        • Karen

I will second Sandra’s comments. (see comment #200 above)

You get what you pay for…..for less than a buck it is fine. I plan on using it only for music. I got 3 and one won’t work at all.

I would not be pleased with any if I had paid $10, to be honest…..

If it is a lot of effort for you to get one (travel, working, busy day), I honestly wouldn’t bother. Time and effort is money…..it took me a long time to learn not to chase every deal, just because it was a deal. Just IMO though….. 😉

  14. jamie

I was able to get 2 of the players last night in spring hill fl… I also got 2 kids piggy banks that record your money as you put it in for only $1 each, instead of $9.99

  15. Amy

How are the portable dvd players?? Good quality?

    • Cheryl S.

I am wondering the same. My daughter has broken two already, so I don’t want to spend a lot again!

  16. jsmith1978

Is the MP3 deal still working?

    • debra

Worked at 8am est in Eastern MA and again at 8:45. HTH

  17. Melissa

For the price its a great item for your kids, I’m going on vacation this week and am so glad I was able to score these for the plane ride and some car travel. All I need now is headphones from the dollar store and its a steal. If you are looking for quality I would suggest invest in an IPhone or IPOD I have both, I spent the money for the quality. Thanks Collin. I also plan to use my couponing skills for my vacation thanks so much for all of your hard work. I was starting to become discouraged with couponing because of how some take advantage of the stores now but I’m happily saving money more and more. Thanks again.

  18. edy

Yes, is still working the MP3 player my cousin in dallas just called again. She said it is and tv projectors for 20.00 and piggy banks that count $ 1.00 zhus the games and she is so happy she got 400dlrs of merchandise like for 50.00 and she said everyone easter birthday there taken care

  19. jan

For anyone that feels like they missed out on the Craig deal — you should feel relieved. I bought mine at midnight and 8 hours later after a full charge and transferring a few files, the sucker won’t turn on. It turned on three times for me showing a fully charged battery. I transferred flv, wmv and mp3 files. It gave me a file format error for the flv files when I tried to play it. It was able to play the other two. This one looked brand new out of the box. Maybe it is just defective or maybe it is junk like everyone else has said. Cutomer service told me to return it. Ugh!

    • Karen

Jan ~ I got 3. One won’t work. Still checking on the other two……

    • Sandra

Make sure you are holding the button in the “up” position for three seconds, per the instructions. I was holding mine for less at first and thought it wasn’t turning on, but it was because I wasn’t holding it for long enough. I suppose it is a safetly feature for preventing it from turning on at the slightest bump. Also, if you turn the switch down instead of up, you are actually resetting the device, which means you will have to redo any settings you have altered like touchscreen calibration, screen brightness and desktop view settings (both of which I had to ajdust to make this think workable.)

      • Karen

Sandra ~ thanks. Still zip, completely lifeless. Good tip about the reset button…..I swapped cords, USB ports and still nothing. It is still hooked up to my laptop though, lol. Guess I am hoping for a miracle 🙂

        • Sandra

Karen-did you get the $10 back on all three? Someone posted they wanted to buy one if anyone had an extra. I don’t have an extra but would go see if I could pick them up one today for the cost of tax & shipping if I can get a 3rd and it will print out a GC. Probably not any left, though, as the clerks seems pretty excited when they saw my deal last night. 🙂

          • Karen

Yes, I got the $10 back on each……I got 2 on my card and 1 on my husband’s card. There is a max of 2/card.

  20. Jamie

I know a lot of people have mentioned donating these for Toys for Tots, another place that would get great use out of them would be a school. I used to teach third grade, and I had co workers with mp3 players that would record themselves giving instructions or reading something and download it on to multiple players so that a group of students could work independently while the teacher worked with another small group of students. The sound quality wouldn’t matter at all because it wouldn’t be for high definition music.

Just wanted to throw the idea out there to those who aren’t quite happy or looking for place that could really benefit from them.

  21. lauren

Anyone know if this has worked / is still working now in east Texas? Tyler / Longview area? I’d love to be able to pick up for my nieces (8&10) that are on spring break and staying with me!
Thanks for any info or ideas!

  22. sharon

i live in hanover park Illinois and my nearest stores are out 🙁

  23. Laura

So i bought the one in the white box. the 4.3 screen. Its actually works awesome for the price. Video is fine. No blotches like anyone is saying. You don’t even need headphones. There is built in speaker. It worked with Windows vista. I didn’t even need the cd which is only for the windows 98 anyways. Its def worth it for free. Like someone else said if it gets lost or broken at least i didn’t pay 100 dollars for it. I don’t know about the one with the smaller screen. That one sounds like it has bad reviews though.

    • Sandra

Sounds like quality is hit or miss. I have one more I haven’t charged or checked out yet. Hope it has a screen as nice as yours. The screen on the one I have tried is a dog, but sound is great given the price, about as good as my ipod.

  24. Becky

I just got this deal this morning and so far it seems to be working just fine for the money. I also love that I can put my pictures on it. Who doesn’t love showing off their kids, right? 🙂 My store also had a table up front with a bunch of items 75% off. There were a couple discovery kids items for cheap, like a digital camera and an ice cream maker. There was also fleece and plush blankets and spa type items on the table. I ended up getting the Craig music player, a huge fleece baby blanket, and a spa set to give as a gift all for only $8 (after the EB I already had from last week) And I got the $10 cash card. So great morning at CVS for me! Thanks for posting this deal!

  25. J

I have been having difficulties last night with the Craig MP3 player with touchscreen because files won’t play at all. I checked the name of files and I had the .wmv. Then I was able to find one with .avi file, it worked perfectly fine. It was a digital copy of a movie dvd I bought a few months ago. I actually like the quality of video/audio. 😀

  26. RollTide1975

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. On the first MP3 Player I charged last night I can’t get the touchscreen to work properly. I have messed with the on & off swith, but nothing seems to be working. Do you think I can swap it out for another one if any of my local CVS’s still have them.

    • Sandra

They are very quirky but try setting the touchscreen calibration under “settings”. It will show a little cross hair in several places on the screen and you touch it as it moves around…that supposedly helps fine tune the touchscreen calibration. It helped mine, but it is still not incredibly sensitive in some parts of the screen, mostly the outer edges. Good luck.

      • RollTide1975

Once the machine is turned on I try pushing say the “Settings” icon, but it doesn’t do anything. I even try pushing the “Music” icon, but the same thing happens. A couple times I moved the power switch up real quick and it entered the Music icon, but does not allow me to push the previous page arrow? What to do? What to do?

        • Sandra

Is it still plugged in and charging? Mine won’t let me do anything when it is plugged into the computer charging.

          • RollTide1975

No I plugged it in overnight amd unplugged it this morning. Thats when I noticed the problem. Do you think it coulod be a defect. Should I try to exchange it for another one?

            • Sandra

I would try to exchange it, and asap since they seem to be selling fast. I don’t know if no returns equals no exchanges. You could call the store to find out if u don’t want to take a change on driving, but on the other hand it will probably be harder for them to tell you know if you are standing in front of them versus on the phone, imo.

  27. Marie

Went to CVS this morning (not for this MP3 player) but for other weekly deals. They do have a huge clearance going on. Everything from electronics, robes, totes, toys, etc. They were still marking things down and said they would be most of the morning. Tried to do the Ocean spray deal and the cashier would not let me use the BOBO coupon since it was already BOGO in the store. Kept beeping. Didn’t argue with them because I was using EB that were expiring. Anyway, you might want to check your stores in the next day or so for some more markdowns.

    • Koni

I don’t see why the cashier wouldn’t allow you to use your BOGO coupon…It’s in their policy to allow it…The coupon may have beeped because she needed to put in the price…

      • Nicole

Yeah thats crazy since it is EXTREMELY clear in the policy. Even gives an example!

        • Marie

Yeah, I was mad about it but I didn’t have the policy with me and it is the CVS I most frequent and didn’t want to “make a scene” over it.

    • mindy

i got the ocean spray deal with no problem

  28. Carol_R

I bought 2 of these this morning. I’ll try to see if they work. However, considering that I got 2 CVS $10 cash cards so that these were FREE except for the tax I can’t complain at all.

  29. TammieW

I got two this morning too from 2 different cvs stores. Although I went to one CVS and they did not have a clue about it and I think they had a bunch. But who can beat free and my girls will love it. I did get a couple zhu zhu for $1 and a tv game for $4.99 thank you so much for the post love it

  30. bren60

I just got a shift lookbook ereader was reg 159.99 down to 19.99. Does anyone know about this item how it works compared to a kindle. I purchased this at CVS about an hour ago in Princeton IN

  31. Jessica

I picked up 2 of these this morning in Hudson, NH. I used $3 in ECB and paid $16.98 and got $20 back in cash cards !!! So far the first one is charging fine. YAY. Thanks for posting another great deal !! 😉

  32. Matt

I picked up 2 of these yesterday and they BOTH work fine. Audio and Video Quality are quite well on mine. The Video is a tad bit choppy, but that could easily be the video itself as I had to convert it from FLV to AVI. As far as color quality, it’s great on mine. Looks just as good as on the computer. I don’t get any red or green spots I’ve seen others talking about. It could be that those issues occurred during the file transfer, try deleting the video and then putting it back.

Sound quality is awesome compared to several other MP3 players I’ve listened to. However, I didn’t even try the earbuds that came with it as I have much better noise canceling headphones (also bought on sale at CVS around the holidays) that work great.

I didn’t notice the coupon on the receipt at first (as I was too excited to get such a deal and didn’t even look) but I always save them and use as many of them as possible. I may be making a trip back to CVS today to pick up 2 more of them using the CVS Cash Cards.

Personally, I think I got a great deal for $10 bucks. Although I will admit, I didn’t go to CVS looking for an MP3 Player at all. My son happened to noticed the sale price and showed it to me (his brother just recently broke his). I told him that if they were really that price I’d buy us both one. I actually had to argue with the cashier who thought it must be a mistake but I told her that she HAD to honor it at the sale price shown even if it IS a mistake.

But when she rang it up, it came up at $9.99. I made her get me 2 of them and after I checked out she immediately went to talk to the boss to see if it was some mistake or not. I didn’t stick around to find out. :o)

Anyway, my experience with this MP3 Player has been great so far, even for the video playback.

  33. Lindsay

Has anyone been able to get the Cranberry juice deal?

    • Sandra

Not a CVS, but I have done it at Winn Dixie in the past without incident when they had a Cranberry BOGO sale…they have it BOGO at Winn Dixie every few weeks if you have one nearby. It is supposed to be the Cherry flavor which my CVS doesn’t carry.

    • mindy

i did cranberry juice deal this morning with no problem.

  34. Alissa

I got four this morning. So excited!! 🙂

  35. Shannon

My store would not let me purchase them. They said that they weren’t suppose to be ringing up that price 🙁

    • Molly

My store said the same, and actually manually entered the $49.99 price, but I said no thank you, and went to a different store, got them with out any problems.

  36. RH

Juice coupon not available. Anyone else able to get it?

    • Lori

      RH,
I was not able to get it either. Which is a bummer, because I always have to have juice on hand for my diabetic family member. I was hoping to stock up! The link directs you to a “no longer available” page. Anyone else have any idea on where to get it?

  37. debbie

I bought 2, can’t get either one to play.

  38. Jennifer

I just got two MP3 players then used my $20 gift card to purchase a zone 60 game for 9.99 had been 79.99 then a few bath robes that had been marked down to 2.99!

  39. Sherry

Man has this item caused a frenzy or what. I did not purchase or don’t intend on purchasing one if I could. But what I hate are some of the negative comments toward CVS. CVS is such a great store. I couldn’t count the number of free items I has received from them over the years. Thanksgiving EBucks alone were absolutely amazing. Plus they take coupons for those items also making them more than free. I guess don’t blame CVS for the “Craig” name (or whatever brand electronics purchased). DG, Walmart, Family Dollar, Walgreens, etc. all carry these products. Sorry but you only get what you pay for or don’t pay for.

    • Karen

I 100% agree that you get what you pay for…..I also love CVS…. HOWEVER, any company should want to KNOW if they are selling a substandard product…..and I strongly suspect they know these are hit/miss. Why do you think they are “selling” a product, originally priced $79.99 for $9.99 + tax and you get a $10 GC? Probably because some of them, like one that I got, won’t work…..
If I got something like this at the flea market, I might expect this……I don’t expect that it as good as an IPod, for heaven’s sake, but it should at least turn on, lol.

  40. Tina

called the store near hubsters job and they have 4 left per cashier. made no mention of what they ring up for so staff does not snatch them up! 😉 He is headed there on his lunch break. please God let them still be there. perfect gift for my sons birthday next month and I may resell the other one if he gets two! Fingers crossed. thanks, hip!

    • mindy

good luck! I drove 12 miles last night at 11pm to a 24-hour cvs and got 2 (so happy and plan to save for christmas presents). with all the complaints, i may have to open them to see if it works.

Got 2 this morning! I guess they had put 3 on hold for me but i only needed 2. 🙂
My husband called back an hour later to put the other one on hold so he could grab it for a friend and within an hour the same lady working said that they had them but there was a problem in the system and now they are back to ringing up as the price in the add
Not sure if this is true or not but just wanted to give people a heads up.

Thanks, I got one last night, when I asked about them, since there wasn’t any on the shelves, I was told that there was one available and that a lady had called the store to ask that they be put up for her. I didn’t realize that CVS did this.

At my store, the DVD player and Vivitar Camcorders were ringing up $9.99 as well. No cash card back but still a $70 savings.
After all these bad review though, might not be worth it. I don’t know:(

I got 4 of these and all rang up $9.99 and gave me $10 cash card each. I used two cvs card. I didn’t think it would work but tried it anyways because I can return it right there if it doesn’t work. I have almost $20 worth of ecb’s on both cvs card and still left over giftcard balance to cover the amount i need to purchase those without paying oop. I bought it so I can turn my ecb’s to giftcards so no expiration date there. My total cost is $2.50 for all players so thats $0.63 each. We tested it when we got home. One is obviously a return because the front sticker is coming off and a bit dirty like its been in the shelf for a long time. The other 3 I would say it looks new but i cant say for sure. We transfered a couple of mp3’s and even recorded our voices on it for fun. The touch sensitive was really bad at first when it didn’t have any file but after we put something on it and a couple of touch sensitivity calibration its working a bit faster than before. The speaker is ok. I will not be returning it to cvs because I got the $10 cash card anyways and $0.63 cents each still not bad. Im glad I didn’t get it from 99 cents store and paid $.99 cents for it because the quality is just like that a 99cents store quality. We just had fun laughing about how $0.63 cents mp3 player doesn’t belong in this century anymore while we play around with it, hahahha we even placed it on its equally low quality stand lol.

I do not think that windows 98 is a system requirement for this product as I have seen a few comments about this… I opened one of mine this morning and it said it was made 2010… It would make no sense to have a product made in 2010 be compatable only with windows 98. It says it includes a windows 98 driver disk, not that it is required for running this program. In the directions it says ‘if’ you have windows 98 to use the driver disk so I am guessing it will work on others such as xp. I am charging one right now to see bc I am going to give my 5yr daughter one in her basket so even if it is junk it will be worth it bc I got four used a gc on the first two paid .98 and then did two more, rolled the gc and paid another .98 and got back 20.00 so free for me except tax. I have worked with electronics and have always held interest in electronics and can say alot problems come frommis handling of merchandise. These things are not supposed to be t

Thrown around like I have seen alot of merchandise done in drugstores. * Sometimes cheap is not bad, when I worked with mobile electronics, jensen our in dash monitor with tv tuner was a few hundred dollars cheaper than the pioneer in dash and of better quality… I do have to say I would never have paid 80 bucks for one though for one of these mp3 players
