I’ve been to HD 2x in the last 5 days, getting mulch & more annuals to plant.
They have an extensive variety of herbs and lots of choices of veggies too.
I’m in the Atlanta ‘burbs. I think I’ll try a few tomato plants again this year.
One of my purple clematis is already bursting with gorgeous big flowers! They are running amuck all over my back fence 🙂
Daylilies are coming in nicely as well. I’m going to split quite a few this yr.

Thanks! We have ALOT of work to do and we were just there looking to do the natural impressions flagstone wallblock for our edging! Maybe I’ll open up my own cc to get the extra 10% also:)

    • Lana

Yes, but if you plant shrubs this time of year they must be watered daily for a year or they will die!

  6. J

Too bad here in PA we have a freeze warning tonight! Wish this was going on a month from now. It’s too early to plant, but I will take advantage of some other offers. Thanks for reminding me!

      J-
Not sure what part of PA you are in, but I am in the Western PA area. I was going to still go and take part in the sale….you can always keep the plants/herbs indoors for a few days until our weather gets back to normal. I learned the hard way last year that if you wait to buy new plants/shrubs/etc. until the weather stays warm, then you end up having to pick through what’s left at the home improvement stores. Buying now will give you the pick of the best!

      • J

I am in western PA too. But….don’t we have to wait until Mother’s Day? I thought that was the law around here! You’re right though, if I wait I may end up with nothing. I plan on going anyway, we’ll see what falls into my cart. Thanks!

Anyone have any tips for newbies 🙂
I had a garden last year but I want to do alittle landscaping around my porch. Any ideas an certain flowers that come back each year, or do they all? Or are there specific ones I should try first as a newb? lol. And is there specific mulch to get, or should I dig up the dirt and replace it with soil? Help anyone 🙂 I’m not sure which garden tools I’ll need to buy, I only have a rake, and A small ho/rake.
    ANY HELP TIA!

    • Megan

If you want plants that come back every year, you need perennials. Find out what “region” you are in so you can make sure you plant things that will thrive where you live. Definitely ask someone in the garden section for tips, but I would assume that the plants they are selling at your Home Depot would be fine for your region. Look at the tags, they usually have lots of information about sun/shade, water needs, and other tips specific to that plant. Realize that you may have some things die or you may decide you don’t like the way something looks. You will probably change things a few times before it looks the way you want it to. Hope that helps!

    • Vicky

Roses are very good to plant and they blow every year and in the winter they look like shrubs so its a nice touch all year round.

    • J

I would get some of the miracle grow potting soil and mix it in with the existing dirt, turn it over a few times to get it all mixed up, and cover it with whatever kind of mulch you like. I saw in the ad that they have some small hand tools, trowels and small rakes and such for only .88. Plants with bulbs will come back each year, like daffodils, hyacinth, tulips, but won’t bloom all summer. So you might want to do a few of those for early in the season and others that bloom later so you always have some color. HTH! Good luck!

there is a special type of flower that comes back, its the prennial. most annuals die when it frosts or gets really cold outside. you can tell which flowers fall into which category by looking at the signs on tables and double checking the individual flower’s tag. it also depends on where in the usa you live. if its a colder environment you will have fewer selections that will be perennials or if its a warmer environment there will be more. some tags have a map on them that explain hardiness zones others just have numbers. you need to look at one of these maps to find out what zone you are in. this will help you understand more about which flowers will be hardy for you. you also need to think about where you are going to be planting. is it sunny there all day? or shady all day? you will need to know the answers to those questions too. when you have decided the conditions the flowers will be growing in you can look for that specific type of flower. the tags will help you to know if they are for sun or shade. there are also flowering trees and shrubs that don’t get too big that you could put close to your house just read the tags to make sure that they will not get too big for the location you want them in. remember when you are planting your flowers to space them out according to the tag so that when they reach their full grown size they are not too crowded. as far as your dirt as long as you don’t have any extremes in your area such as way too wet or way too dry the majority of the time you should be fine. as for the mulch to go around the plants after they are planted, pick out what appeals to you. you might want to even consider rocks if you plant all prennials as this won’t have to be added to yearly most wooden mulches do. as far as gardening tools you’ll also need a small shovel to dig the holes with or maybe even a larger shovel if the wholes you will be digging are larger.

Kind of off topic but, where is Collin? Haven’t seen any comments or really personal post in a few days. I hope the time off means a vacation, family time, or something else fun!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Kristy!
It is actually my kiddos Spring Break this week so I’ve been trying to spend the evenings with them…I’ll be back to posting more recipes, etc. next week! Stay tuned 🙂

I just left THD. Went there to purchase some herbs for my garden. Well,…I ended up purchasing herbs, 6-2 packs of charcoal, and other items. I was so excited about my great deal that I mistakenly left my other items at the register. An excuse for me to head back to pick up more charcoal. We grill almost every weekend during spring/summer. We can never have enough charcoal. What an amazing deal–regular price is usually b/t $11-$13.

has anyone ever used an ecoupon before, I have one at home depot

    • Sarah Sims

      Wondering the same thing.

  11. Coleen

Home Depot coupons??? Go to the Post Office. Ask for a “change of address” packet. In it, you will receive a 10% off your purchase at Lowes. (Not sure if there is a minimum purchase or not) Home Depot accepts competitor coupons….not bad. I live on Long Island (NY)

  12. TM

Just came back from Home Depot. The pansies are marked down to 62 cents and the veggies are $1.49. The herbs are $1.74. Got the charcoal for $5.98! Thanks

  13. MCouzens

Last year I bought the Pennington 1 Step Complete & it did wonders for my lawn. I put it on right around this time of year & luckily it rained a bunch right after I applied it so I didn’t have to use my water. My lawn was so lush & green. I highly recommend this product & will be buying it again.

    • Laura

      Thanks!

  14. Sarah Sims

Does Home Depot take coupons? I have one for charcoal that I would love to use.

    • Vicky

yeah i have used coupons there before even internet printed ones. good place to find cheap paper towels in the clearance sections.

    • Laura

Yes! I had 3 free candy coupon and they let me use them! 🙂

  15. Kristyl J.

My Homedepot has the annuals for $ .84 per six pack instead of the posted $ .94.

  16. Mary

What size is the grass seed for $7.37? Anyone know??

  17. Mary Jo

Thank you for recommending checking our local ad. The SF Bay Area does not have the same deal for shrubs. : (

  18. Brandy

I’m excited. Even though my tomatoes and peppers are ready to be picked soon I can add some to my garden. I also need some other landscaping thing to top off all the work we did in the back yard. Nice to enjoy it while in the pool!

And we are cooking out this weekend so going to stock up on the charcoal. It has been beach weather every day!
