JCPenney: Share the Deals You’ve Scored Using Coupons Won With Holiday Buttons

As I’ve mentioned previously, JCPenney is giving out Christmas buttons (pins) in stores with or without a purchase – just ask a cashier. One out of four score $5 or $10 off any purchase of that amount or higher. After you get a button, go to JCPenney.com and click on the button post to the right side and enter the 7-digit code on the back of the button. You can enter 2 codes per e-mail address per day.

I’ve been getting many emails from readers regarding the bargains they’ve been able to snag with the Christmas Button coupons. Reader Gray let me know of a few items she spotted that would be free or super cheap after the coupons, including a Disney Jake & the Neverland Pirates plush toy on clearance for $5, a sword for $10, an $11 shower curtain, an $8 Lalaloopsy giant coloring/decorating pad, a $10 Lalaloopsy littles doll, and $11 kids pajamas.

And, check out the email I got from reader Marsha…

I went to my computer and typed in my codes, and BOTH of mine were winners – so I got TWO $10 off a $10 purchase coupons! These will really help out with Christmas shopping!

Now it’s your turn! I’d love to hear about the bargains and freebies you’ve been able to score using coupons you’ve won. Share in the comments below!

(Thanks for the reminder, Anna and Gray!)

I won a $10 credit…was really excited! Also LOVE the buttons sooo many great uses….gift toppers, magnets, mini ornaments, great on Santa hats, kids shirts etc….

  2. Alea

Ornaments, toys (the clearance is AWESOME), slippers, jewelry, super cute knit winter hat for my 4th grader and a few other things. I LOVE this button promotion! It’s so much fun and has been a HUGE help for Christmas shopping! 🙂

  3. Amy

    never a winner 🙁

    • Heather

Keep trying!! Most of them are winners.. from my experience at least 40-50% of the buttons are.. I’ve won almost $200 this week!

      • Rebe

It’s supposed to be 1/4, still great chances!

  4. Danielle

Got one with my sons free haircut and no luck. Still happy we get free hair cuts.

  5. Su

I won a 5 dollar certificate on my first visit out of 4 buttons.
    I am going back tomorrow…..

  6. Haseena

I had totally forgotten about this until last weekend, so when I was at the mall I stopped by JCP with my husband and daughter and we got 6 button and four out of the six were each $10 certificate winners. I haven’t been able to go back and use them yet, but I am soo excited for what I can score with it. I just wish there was a JCP at the mall that’s 2 mins away from me cuz I would have been collecting the buttons everyday.

  7. Holly Marie

I went a few times and never got offered a button. Maybe they ran out? Or maybe I just have to ask. Boo.

    • Haseena

      You have to ask.

    • Amy

They should just give you one. I’d ask next time you are in and if they give you one, tell them that you weren’t given one during your last visits. I’d bet they will compensate!

  8. Ed

Do the certificates have to be printed, or can I show them the cert in my phone? Thanks

    • jen p

You can show them on your phone 🙂 Hate using ink and paper if I dont have to!

  9. adri

I’ve won hundreds of dollars. Besides $5 and $10 coupons I have also gotton 2 $25 gif cards, 1 $50 gift card and a pair of movie tickets. I have gotten free shoes, clotehs, toys and so much more

    • Toby

Wondering if you use the same email address for all buttons???

  10. Amy

I’ve gotten a nightgown $5, garlic peeler $5, Melissa and Doug magnetic puzzle $6, Upside down owl kids slippers $4, and two dressy tops $10/$12 so far.
The next time I get to use a coupon, I am going to try for more kids toys. Their clearance prices are great but when paired with a coupon, they are close to free. Christmas shopping can’t get any better than this.

  11. gina

Has anyone else had trouble entering in their pin codes? I have gotten 5 pins and 4 of the pins codes come back with error messages saying there was a problem with them. I checked and triple checked code and typed it and the capcha in right. Kinda frustrating.

    • Michelle L.

Yes, we had 9 buttons and 6 of them gave us an error code like what you are describing. That is disappointing!

      • Joanna

it says on their website that if that happens you could bring them back and exchange them or call them-I’m not sure what they do if you call. I have 5 that don’t work and I will be bringing back today

        • Mel

          I had 2 that didn’t work : (

    • Joan Southwick

if you enter more than two each day, you will get the error…

  12. Krystal

out of our 8, zero won! I think they shipped our store all the loser buttons.

    • tricia

I am with you… I put it 10 codes and NO winners… BuMMeR!

      • Betsy's Third

I put in 8 and no winners either… Our luck should be changing now, right?

    • Cizzle

That happened to me twice – 0/8 and 0/10, but most days I get 3-5/10 winners! And mostly $10 certificates! Keep trying! It’s so worth it!

    • Heidi

      Same here….8 buttons and 0 winners………..

  13. Katie D.

Two $5 coupons and a $10 coupon, as well.

  14. Michelle L.

We won three $10 certificates. We got a Fisher Price Apptivity case for iPhone/iPod free, plus two kids’ tissue art kits free, and a two-piece fall jacket/snow pants set for $2 after the certificates. Great deals!!

    • Heather

NICE! I didn’t know they had those at JCP! I’ll have to check that out today.

  15. dave

We have gotten 40 dollars so far and my son picked our hello kitty slippers and a snow hat for his sister and spent 4 OOP, and we still have 30 to spend. I was sad the photo shop did not accept the coupons, but there are tons of thinsg on clearance so we will be going shopping. Plus, they give you 2 more buttons every time you go in, and my 2 year asks for them and he was given 6 today by employees just b/c he is cute! (I swear, thats what they said) so we will see what else we win!

    • Rebe

I feel guilty I am “using” my kids, they both run from register to register smiling and asking for buttons. Even before they get them they are both saying: THANK YOUUUUUU! 😉 I swear I didnt “train” them!

  16. estela

i have gotten alot of free stuff of almost free using this coupons and everytime i go i get more buttons right now i have 8-$10 certificates and 2-$5 certificates and ive won a $5 starbucks giftcard

  17. Diane

I have won $45 all together so far! I love this promotion 🙂 And the pins are really cute

  18. Holly

I think this promo is really funny BUT I have accumulated 12 buttons within the last week, and all buttons were non winners.

    • Cizzle

Go to every cash register on all levels and you can get way more buttons (make sure to hit up the shoes are jewelry areas too!)

  19. Laura

I am missing out! I gotta stop by there 🙂

  20. Alicia

    I won a $5 Starbucks e-card 🙂

  21. Serena Abdelaziz

    Yeah, I got like 12 buttons…no winners! 🙂

  22. pharmchick

I got 3 buttons just for asking the other day and won $10 on one of them! The other 2 were not winners but im happy with even one!

  23. Ashley

Dang, I was just at the mall today and totally forgot to get buttons! I guess I’ll just have to go back 😉

  24. Jenn Pantoja

Out of 9 buttons, 1 was a $10 gift card 🙂 I plan on using it to get a Bobba waterbottle for my mom and will pick up some more pins to try my luck.

  25. Brandi

We have entered in over 20 codes and not one winner:(

  26. M

Does anyone have any “hip” ideas on what to do with these cute pins?!? I’d love to hear some ideas!

    • sophie

Great mini ornaments, gift toppers, if your really crafty you can remove the pin and turn them into bow centers or bobby pins, you could lace them into your kids shoes and they can wear for the holidays, hmmm what else?

      • M

        Thanks for the ideas!!

    • Cizzle

We pinned them to our wall in my office and made a Christmas tree with all the green pins and the present-shaped ones underneath, we spelled out “ho ho ho” and also made a candy cane family. It’s a fun holiday decoration and gives use to our ever growing stash of pins 🙂

    • Rose

We have a big christmas eve party with the family and each family brings a game to play with a prize. I am going to use the buttons for my game this year. everyone will be given a button when they arrive. One button will be known by me that is a prize winner. I will pick a word that if anyone says it they must give up their button. the one with the most buttons will win a prize and the person with the surprise winning button will win a prize. kinda like the diaper pin game at a baby shower.

      • M

        Thanks! Great ideas!

    • Natalie Hughes

Maybe make a felt wreath and cover it with all the buttons

  27. Shelly E

three $10 and one $5 certificates so far out of about 13 buttons

  28. n

I went last night and they only gave me 1. I said, I thought, it was 2 per person, per day. They said they had to start giving out 1 because they didnt want to run out.

    • Kristy

I was told that today….I went to another register & got my 2nd one!

  29. Maureen

I’ve been going every other day or so to get buttons. My kids think they are little treasures. So far we have won $35 in free merchandise that I’ve used on their already great toy clearance! Love this promotion. Hope it doesn’t bankrupt JCP.

    • harlow

great thought Maureen on how much JCP is giving us, haha. i have gotten 55.00 in certificates. i am so happy. i needed this boost this Christmas. there petite clothes are really cute and low price and fit me still so they don’t really have the “petite fit” it works for me thats what i get there.

  30. Laura S.

I’ve had seven buttons so far; and all seven have been losers 🙁 I have to go tomorrow hopefully I can finally get a winner!

  31. brandy

we got a plastic toy wagon, 2 puzzles, lalaloopsy minis, a shirt, girls’ sweater, a workout top, a mini goofy toy, have $60 in vouchers left, and have spent $4.

  32. es

Out of 11 buttons 4 winners $10 each..happy I will see how I will spend them.
U cannot combine in one transaction or if u buy mutiple things can they be used in one transaction??

    • Jessica

Depends on your cashier 😉 My first purchase i was able to combine the 10’s and 5’s. However, they had a big meeting at my local store and now you can only get 1 item for each coupon you have. Just have to shop around 🙂 I love these buttons!!

    • Cizzle

You’re not allowed to use more than one coupon per transaction, but I’ve done up to 7 transactions at a time (each with their own certificate) all at the same register. Just make sure to combine things so they come out to $10 even and you will never have to pay a penny (ex: $8 shirt + $2 giftbag)

    • Amy

I was told that you can stack likable coupons – so $5’s with $5’s and $10s with $10s…but each store may be different.

  33. Emmy

I love these pins! I try to go everyweekend and get some since black Friday and have so far received over $200 worth of coupons! Most of my CHristmas is coming from JCP!

  34. Erin

I’ve won $80 so far with $10 & $5 certificates. I got slippers for $1; a sweater and shirt for $2; 5 pack of socks/2 reusable coffee cups/sweater dress all for free 🙂 I still have $30 to spend and I am going back today for more! Love these buttons

  35. Tilla Ham

have gotten a tea/coffee press, 2 tall tumblers with straws, a coffee mug, beer glasses, and a mini pie maker for about 20 out of pocket:) (the cost of the tea press was 20 so like getting everything else for free)

  36. Sherry

Got 8 buttons, 2 $10 winners. But can you use them online? I thought only in store? Unfortunately, our store is EXTREMELY small.

    • Heather

You can’t use them online, unfortunately! But they still have so much you can get in store 🙂

  37. Janie

LOVE LOVE that they did this! Have gotten so many great deals. My mom & I have gotten $90 in certificates which we have used to buy different things for holiday trip to ND (burrr, we’re from CA & it doesn’t get that cold here so needs winter attire). Leggings, tights, flannel pj’s for $2 using $10 cert, sweaters for $7 using $5 cert, so much!

  38. Renee

I won a total of $25 worth of certificates! Our Elf in the Shelf wears a different button everyday and the kids love it.

  39. Tracy

I have won 3 $10 gift certificates!!! So excited!! Really helped out with Christmas and plus they have had great deals on toys!! 🙂

  40. Sans

I got 5 buttons so far and won 1 $10 certificate. So happy.

  41. Ashley

Anyone know if the jcpenney outlets are participating? I’m guessing no, but wondered if anyone knew for sure. That’s all we have in our local mall.

  42. Joanna

Their toys are clearanced and some are ringing up even cheaper than marked. I’ve bought toys for my nieces and nephews for $1-$3. I’ve won $40 so far. 1 out of every 2 buttons seems to win $5 or $10

  43. Christi

Ive gotten about $150 in certificates (the $5 and $10 ones) and a $50 giftcard so far.

  44. jen p

So far with our “button money” we have bought $10 Pashminas, $10 kids hat and glove sets, $7 slippers, $12 toy helicopter, misc juniors gloves, earmufs and scarfs, $17 U of U hoody, $5 christmas pins. These are all the prices before the holiday certificates! The $5 and $10 items were completely free! I am LOVING this promotion, me and the kids stop by JCP every day for our new buttons and to spend our “button money” as my kids call it.

  45. Cara

My husband and 4 year old daughter are stopping by today to pick up a ship-to-store order for me. I told him about the promo and he said “You’re serious that I could go to every register and ask for one? Without buying something? Okay!” I told him he should have our daughter ask too:)
I’m excited to see what we might get — I know you can only enter 2 per day. No biggie — we’ll get them all entered, and then go shopping if we win:)

  46. renee

i have gotten a new set of towels for my bathroom, gheradelli chocolates, a spatula and a shirt for myself, AND i still have some to spend. All of my recent ones have been saying that there is a problem with the code though, even when i know it’s entered correctly ~ frustrating!!

    • Joanna

on the website it says you can bring them in and exchange them or call customer service.

      • Cizzle

Good to know, thanks! I have a bag of 29 pins that all gave me an error message.

        • kacee

There is no phone number to call, you have to email. JCP Customer Service can file a complaint but they cannot do anything about the buttons because it is a 3rd party. I have emailed every day since Sunda about buttons I have that gave me an error, and I still have not heard back. It is a great promotion but man…get back to me 🙂

      • renee

thanks! I sent an email and got one back saying they would check into it.

  47. Cizzle

I have gotten my entire office obsessed with this pin promotion. I go to JCP on my lunch break and go to all the different registers and come back with 20-40 pins from each trip. You can enter two pins PER EMAIL per day, so I use 5 emails and have 10 chances to win per day. I’ve gotten so much stuff for free – $5 bags of moose munch or ghiradelli chocolates, $6 mens PJ pants, $10 mens dress shirts, $4-10 kid’s shirts/shorts, $10 onesies, $5 ornaments, $2-8 baby toys, $10 hot wheels gift sets, $11 women’s sweater (I paid $1), $2-4 wrapping paper and gift bags, and I have $90 worth of certificates in my purse. I have never gotten more than a $10 certificate, but my friend got a $25 one! We have so many pins at work that we put them up on our wall in christmas designs as decorations! One of my coworkers is going to make a tie and cufflinks out of pins for our Christmas party tomorrow! I’ve been giving out certificates to people and using lots myself. This is seriously the best promotion ever and it has made my Christmas possible this year. Thank you JCP!!!

    • Anonymous

That is ridiculously overboard!! 20-40 a day and using 5 different emails….

  48. andrea

For those that haven’t won yet. Make sure you ask at the various cash registers and at the customer service desk. My favorite is the furniture dept. I came home with a collection of buttons that lasted me for a couple of days. And consider your significant others too. You can enter 2 per person. So you + DO = 4 buttons a day. You’ll win too.

I’ve won 2 x $25 e-certs and 2 x $10 gift card. I used one cert to buy my little one a baby outfit and my older son a pair of jeans. Then I bought myself a pair of jeans as well and actually paid for it since I felt guilty about all the freebies. I do want JCP to be around next year 🙂 Now I still have a $25 gift cert to use and will probably get more baby clothes.

  49. Suzie

My daughter has been entering everyday with her husband and in addition to winning many, many certificates, she has won some e-gift cards for a grand total of $500…. Watching her go on a shopping spree was so much fun! She got Nikes, Columbia jackets, many, many clothes on clearance and a new Cuisinart coffeemaker…. I won two $25 gift cards which I used at Sephora, along with a $15 off/$50 coupon from Sephora and scored free Ralph Lauren Romance Perfume….

Our JC Penney is in the Clackamas Town Center, in Oregon, and has been closed since the shooting on Tuesday… so we’re sending lots of prayers their way!

    • Alea

Did they allow her to use multiple coupons in the same transaction?

  50. Mel

I’ve entered 10 codes and no winners
