UPDATE: Please note that this deal may be regional…. so be sure to check your My CVS Weekly Ad to see if it’s advertised in your area. (Thanks, Tiffany!)

Calling all CVS shoppers! Here’s a super *HOT* deal for you (or at least I think so!). Just head on over to your local CVS store where they are offering up a $50 Extrabucks Reward just for purchasing a PayPal Reloadable Prepaid Debit Mastercard for $4.95 (and loading a minimum of $150 on the card). This offer is limited to 1 per household and valid through November 27th only.

What a *HOT* buy since you are basically making a little over $45 (when you subtract the $4.95 fee) to spend at CVS. And as you know, based on all of the great weekly deals, $45 can go very far at CVS!

(Thanks, Kris, Coupons are My Cash and Freebies for a Cause!)

There was a sign but none on the rack, asked for a rain check but they would not give one. Then later I saw a cashier with a couple of the GC behind the register and asked for one,she stated that it’s not working. Ugh!

    • Shanna

Thats ridiculous, it’s not an error, went to cvs in my area (denton, tx) and had no problem. They should have given you a raincheck or at least tried. I bet the cashier was told to say that to customers.

    • arielM

my cvs had them behind the register and I tried it but it didn’t print out, then the manager came and said that is why they pulled them.

      • Tomoko

I just got one and it worked fine.

  2. Wendy

I am in NC and it worked for me around 6:30 pm tonight. My receipt did indicate only one per customer and my CVS deals online. Not sure I will go back to get another one but it was a good deal.

  3. debra

Waiting to see if this deal is still good tomorrow. Would like to do it again.

  4. Kidsallgone

Can anyone help me out on how to activate the card?

Also should I go online and use it to buy a gift card to Publix?

Or should I try to use it to purchase another card like a previous hipster said she dId

    Thanks for any replies!

    • debra

GO online to activate. Really simple and quick. You can use it to buy anything you want wherever they accept mastercard. I would suggest using it quick.

  5. Kayla

Can some one show where it appears in the myWeekly ad to tell if it’s available in your region?

    • ellaci

It didn’t seem to appear in the Weekly Ad, at least not mine in AZ I found it online on “My CVS account” under “my deals”. It is suppose to be good for a few days IF your store is offering them. Seems to be some stores across the nation are offering it and others have stopped it. Good Luck!!

    • Crescent City Couponer

It was under the Household section in my ad, but it’s no longer there. Now it only shows the iTunes and GAP gift card ECB deals.

  6. Sarah

Has anyone tried this in Illinois? I went to two stores and neither of them had the card or knew anything about the deal.

    • VB

I was told that the stores in our area have been waiting on a shipment for a few weeks, she was waiting from corp to get back to her about a rain check or substitution.

  7. Butz

I totally lucked out. This card was sold out at every CVS store in the area. I stopped by the closest one in person to ask if they had the card. Someone decided not to buy one and left it with the cashier at the register!

  8. Nifty Nickels

Worked for me tonight in Maryland about 8pm. You pay $4.95 to activate the card and then within the first 36 hours they take another $4.95 as part of a monthly service fee.

  9. Hong

I live in the Los Angeles area. I didn’t see it in our ad or any signage for this today at the store. Guess it doesn’t apply to LA?

    • glaiza

HI Hong..im in in L.A. too…and i saw it on my ad (cvs.com)…and was able to purchase it and the deal worked for me…

  10. ellaci"

It’s amazing how CVS runs their offers. After seeing all the negatives that many stores had stopped this offer by around 2 PM today, I decided to just forget it. I had to go there this evening anyway and asked the clerk if they were “bombarded” with people wanting this deal. She said it had been VERY BUSY all day with “that offer” and all the freebies. She said they still had some and it WAS giving the $50 ecb’s, SO I “grabbed one” at 10 PM, no less! She said they hadn’t gotten an email to stop them. It doesn’t seem right that some stores honored this and others didn’t. They need to get their “game” together. I am happy that I was able to do this deal though as it will really help out this time of year. Thanks Collin!!

  11. Melissa Plum

My CVS had signs up all over the place about this deal. My receipt shows that I could do it again.

  12. Bre

So excited about this deal. I went in this morning and they had 10 cards, none of the other couponers knew about the deal. I thought I would be lucky to get one. I was the first person to inquire about it. We tried it and BAM it worked. It was not printed in the ad but showed on the online weekly ad. The store made me pay cash for it though. They said it was the CVS policy. I know that other stores let people pay with debit cards. Anyways as I was checking out 3 people called to see if they had any in stock and if the deal worked.

  13. Kidsallgone

    Ok more questions here (sorry):
    1. When I bought my card did that activate it?
    3. Do I need to activate it online?
    4. Can I use the card to buy another one?
    Thanks for My replies!

    • Britney

When you bought the card you only loaded money on it. You can activate it by going online or calling. Some people said they were able to buy another card but I personally didn’t try it. Good Luck if you do try! And f you activate online try my referral code 2337686316 and we should both get a credit for $5 🙂

      • Kidsallgone

Thanks Britney. I’ll activate my card (and hopefully figure out how to use your referral code) before heading out this morning to see if I can use it to buy another. If I’m not able to use it to buy another then I’ll buy another anyway to get more free money (ecb). If the deal is no longer working then it was a $5 risk I took (& lost).

    • Brittany

No, you can not use a gift card to purchase another gift card. Unfortunately, CVS had a problem a couple of years of ago where people were coming in and buying gift cards with illegally obtained gift cards/credit cards to “wash” away a trail. Since the money laundering problem, you no longer are suppose to be able to-though I feel quite sure it still happens because of complacency and lack of training. They are now suppose to ID all credit cards, especially for the purchase of gift cards. It sad that a few ruin it for the rest. 😣

      • ellaci"

But this is not a gift card, it is a pre-paid debit card which is why several or more people have said they used it to buy another one. Since the clerks knew the person(s) had just purchased one, they would know it was legit. I’m sure it is being handled differently at each store since everything else concerning this deal has gone that way, LOL!

      • ellaci

I just looked at my card and it says on the packaging, “This is not a gift card”. It says, “Reloadable Prepaid Mastercard” and has “Debit” printed on the card above the MasterCard logo. Hope this helps.

  14. Jenny

Anyone know if this works in Oklahoma? The ad doesn’t have this deal 🙁

    • ellaci

The deal doesn’t show up in the weekly “paper” ad, but does on the online ad if it’s offered in your region. Check on cvs.com. Also, call your stores and see if they can tell you. I do think I saw some people in the comments from OK saying they had gotten the deal, but not positive as there are ALOT of comments on this thread!

    • kwiggins84

I saw it on my weekly ad online for Shawnee, OK and went in the store and it wasn’t in the sales ad on display. I also called a couple stores in Midwest City and they didn’t have any either. Its a bummer! 🙁

  15. trippy79

I’m a bit confused… do you have to pay $4.95 for the card and then load $150 onto the card to get the $50 ecb? Or do you just buy the card at $4.95 and get the $50 ecb’s?

    • trippy79

Never mind, after looking at the older comments and allowing my coffee to kick in I’ve found the answer. Have to load $150 onto the card to get the $50 ecb. 🙂

    • ellaci

Yes, you have to pay $4.95 for the card and load the $150.00 onto the card at the register which will be a total of $154.95 rung up on the register and the clerk scans your CVS card and then the receipt comes out with your $50 ecb’s at the bottom.

  16. a

worked in indiana at 1 am ET on Monday

  17. rensee

is this deal still working this morning
    in houston anyone?

  18. Nicole L

I called CVS this morning after trying to find it in my local store. I was told it was a glitch that is now fixed. The promotion was only supposed to be for $10 ECB. Oh well! Maybe next time:)

    • Jonette

it is still showing under my deals as a $50 reward.. if its a glitch,
i wonder why its still on their site??

      • Marins

I did this deal in canton,ga this morning at 10.00 am and it worked perfectly

  19. Sofie

I just did it and it wasn’t working here in Boston. Then they refused to refund it to me. Help!

  20. SArah

worked in Lafayette, LA at 8:15 a.m.

  21. camerahandi

Is this deal working in Middle Tennessee? It’s in my local ad, but neither store knows about & no shelf tag.

  22. Tish

I went to 6 stores in ny and could not find any of the cards

  23. skydiver99

Worked with no problems at all in Mobile, AL!! The manager was shocked…she had no idea! There are a LOT of them left at the Broad St. store. Just did this deal at 8:45 a.m. November 25. 🙂

    • Nikki Allen

Thanks! I’m in Mobile too but cannot go try this deal until tonight.

  24. skydiver99

Worked perfectly in Mobile, AL at the Broad St. CVS! The manager was shocked. Just bought it at 8:45 a.m., Monday morning (today). And there are a bunch left!

  25. nina

Work at 6:30 this morning for me.. but they already took the I $4.95 out and it hasn’t even been 24 hours 🙁

    • ellaci

Happened to me too after just 8 hrs. I think they are charging them quickly now since so many people are buying them and then immediately cancelling their accounts. I spoke with someone at PayPal this morning about it.

  26. lori

How do I use a 50 reward? Is it to be used all at one time? Ive never shopped cvs. Thanks a lot

    • debra

Yes, you will need to spend in a single transaction. There are a lot of freebies this week. You can use it towards anything you want noting the excludions on the ECB at the bottom (alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, stamps, etc.). Use it on items that will give you extra bucks back making the money work for you. hth

      • lori

        Thanks for the help

  27. Jessica

Worked for me in RI just now

  28. Tammy

Probably the best thing is for everyone to go on their “My CVS” page — enter their store to see if the card is available at their store and then add it to their list and print it which gives all of the details.

When I asked at my store they said no I was wrong and they didn’t have anything like that available. I went ahead and tried it and it worked — they were shocked and were planning on putting up a sign when I left — not sure if they did or not

  29. Lindsay

Worked in Fredricksburg va for me just now. The cashier was shocked. Withdrew the money at 711 in $20 increments of course and put it back in my account. Spent the balance on gas. Free money woo!!! Will be deactivating the card to avoid fees.

  30. aishkab

please help just got one this morning in houston but didnt trigger the ecb:( TIA

  31. Candice

    Has anyone activated their card?
I do not like how you have to give your a social security number…

  32. debra

I looked at MyCVS ad this morning and this deal is no longer listed. I was able to do it yesterday but now I don’t want to chance it again.

  33. Carms

So I’m headed out to try it in chicago but what happens if they no longer offer 50 bucks then I just have a pre paid card I guess? Wish me luck!

    • arielM

they were able to give me a refund

    • Katie

good luck. Let us know if it went through or not. Got 2 of them in Orlando area last night, no problem. Some of my friends want to do it at work and they wonder if it is still up…..

      • mom2

You did the deal twice? and got 2 (50 extra bucks)? I did this deal once and it says on the receipt that I can do it again but I’m afraid to try.

  34. jamie

Supposedly they take the few on the 25th of every month. So, for those who haven’t activated yet, wait til tomorrow!

    • jamie

      ^ the “fee”

  35. Sabrina

When activating your PayPal prepaid debit card it will ask for a Friend Referral Code, if you’d like to make an additional $5…use code: 4284209837 and you & I will earn a bonus $5 added to our accounts within 2 days! Hope this helps! Happy holidays! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • jamie

If someone hasn’t used this, I will! Thanks!

    • jean

How do you get a referral code to refer someone?

    • Kidsallgone

Not waiting 2 days because on the back of the card it says they will take out $4.95/monthly fee within 36 hours. Am I confused?

Also If I use all the money on the card and don’t cancel it, do they have a way of finding out my debit card I used and debit my debit card the $5.95 fee? That sounded like a stupid question. Lol

      • Kirsten (@lots2save)

        I wondered that same thing?

    • Christy

I used your code. Hapy holidays

    • jean

You only get the $5.00 after the referal loads an additional $10 or more to their card.

  36. Wendy

I just did it at the Lillington, NC CVS and it worked perfectly! They had signs posted and a good stock of them! Yay! And according to my receipt, I can do another one as well.

    • Kim

I just snagged one in Sanford, NC … the stores here have plenty of cards! 🙂

      • Wendy

        Yay!!

  37. SRINIDHI

when activating the card, do we have to give the SSN ?

    • diana

      Yes

  38. mom2

Can you really do this deal twice? Has anyone tried and got a second 50 extrabucks?

    • Heather

      Yep!

  39. SRINIDHI

How do we cancel the paypal card? Please help!

    • mom2

I think, once you use all the money in it, it’s no longer valid. But I could be wrong

    • Lindsay

Use all the money and log into your account on the website and you can cancel the card. I jut withdrew the money and cancelled it

      • Jenny | Guide to Couponing

Lindsay – how did you withdraw all the money? I have two cards and am worried about this additional fee.

        • Lindsay

I went to 711 and withdrew it at their ATM. $1 fee. You can only withdraw in increments of $20, I just withdrew $140 and used the rest on gas. HTH

    • Heather

You can cancel by linking the card to a paypal account for on-line access. (You could simply set up a pay-pal account you don’t intend to use.) When you view the card on-lin, click on the ‘Help’ button and one of the options under the Help button is ‘Cancel Card’.

  40. SArah

i did it 2 times. I bought the card went home and set up my pin. then I bought another one by giving the cashier 4.95 and using 150 off my 1st card. so now I have 2 $50 extra bucks and only had to load one card! awesome

    • Katie

      good job!

    • mom2

Ok, good 🙂 That’s exactly what I plan on doing. I just wanted to make sure it would work out that way 🙂 Thanks 🙂

    • Lindsay

      Great idea

    • Kidsallgone

Do u need a PIN in order to use the card to buy anything in a store? Thanks for the reply.

      • debra

Definitely set up the pin and use it as a debit card. Otherwise it will hold the money up and you cannot cancel the card. Walmart takes it no problem. I immediately activated and used the entire $150 to put it back on my AMEX bluebird card which has no fees to load.

        • Laura

How do i set up the pin? Do I just make one up or what?

    • S

Then would you have to cancel two cards? Or just one time for the account?

  41. Cshaw Shaw

I did the deal and when i atempted to roll it to do it a second time it errored out in the system so the CVS Manager had to cancel everyting and refund the $150.00 back to the PayPal debit card. I called Paypal and they told me it may take 3-5 business days for the funds to be back on the card. 🙁 #Bummer Did anyone else have this problem?

    • mom2

oh, no. Now I’m scared to do it 🙁

  42. Heather

The deal is alive and well in Kenosha, WI. Although I went to all 3 stores in order to get my two cards. It appears that only the location on 80th St has any of these cards left. Wish I would have been clever enough to use the first card to buy the second one. 😛

  43. Phyllis

Please how do i Cancel???? HELP!

  44. Angie D.

Just got the $50 ecb in D.C. : ) WOOT!!

  45. Tish

Anyone found the card in ny

  46. laura

I went to 3 locations in Houston and was unable to find this card

  47. Susan

Got the ECB no problems but accidentally used it as credit, so now I have to wait for everything to clear to cancel. UGH!!!

  48. Laura

How do i activate this thing? It keeps asking for a PIN and I’m not sure what to put there.

    • Kidsallgone

Make up one u will remember like you have for your bank debit card.

      • laura

I tried that it gave me an error message and told me to call. 🙁

  49. Jessica C

Can you use your extra bucks rewards on photo calendars from CVS Photo Center??? I’d really like to get the pay pal card extra bucks and then use them on photo gifts for Christmas.

  50. Kidsallgone

Ok so I bought my card yesterday,Sunday, about 6pmEST Today at 1pm I went online and activated it. I was curious about my balance so I called the toll-free number and they had already deducted the $4.95 fee (in addition to the $4.95 cost I paid the cashier). UGH!!!! So how did some people avoid having that fee deducted? Thanks for the replies 🙂

    • Lisa

I’m on hold with them with this VERY question. I don’t understand the second $4.95 charge.

      • jean

There is a monthly $4.95 fee that is charged on the 25th of each month.

        • jean

Also if you zero out your card and do not cancel it , there is a Monthly Account Maintenance Fee ($4.95) if Card Account is inactive for 90 days.
