I would definitely recommend an Ergo over this — holds the baby better, no back pain for parent, and has a higher weight limit! I use mine every day for my 11 month old who will be hitting that 26 pound max before too long! I have friends who still use their Ergo on their back to carry their 3 and 4 year olds.

Thank you because I just ordered an ergo after a lot of indecision on which one to choose! I feel better after reading your post.

i second cara, the Ergo is a way better investment. The second i wore the bjorn with my newborn in it my back hurt horribly. Never have had any pain caring my 8 month old who is 25 pounds. The baby bjorn also is know to cause hip problems for infants…

I love my ERGObaby too. The Babybjorn (aka crotch dangler) killed my back.

  4. Ana

I completely agree with Cara. I cringe when I see babies in forward facing carriers. They might enjoy it more, but it is terrible for their hips and for our backs. I love my Ergo though! It is so comfortable to carry my toddler on my back in the Ergo. It has been such a useful carrier.

  5. Stephanie

    Love my Ergo!

  6. Erica

Agree with the others at that price I’d get an ergo. No crotch danglers here. And if you want a carrier that you can have your baby facing out. Get the beco Gemini.

  7. Heather

Yes!!! Ergo or tula! Will be a much better investment. Today at target I saw ergos on sale for $80.

Well, it looks like I am now on a mission to find some great deals on these highly rated Ergo Carriers! 😀 If you know of any, feel free to email. Thanks!

zulily has ergos sometimes! and some people do love forward facing carriers (Personally, I’m an Ergo fan but the best carrier is the one that you and your baby love!)

    • Maureen

Yes, please. I’ve been looking for good deals on an Ergo. Though now I’m contemplating going with Ergo Air, Boba 3G or a bitty bean since I like the idea of them being able to fit in the diaper bag or purse.

    • Cara

Yes, Zulily has good deals sometimes. I actually got mine last summer at Costco — really great price when they had them in stock. I didn’t have one for my first and then totally regretted it as I watched my friends use theirs for years and then resell it at a really good price. They hold their value – around here people resell them for $40-$60 — I only paid $80 for mine new;)

Besides Zulily, Rue La La has ERGObaby carriers sometimes.

Just an FYI, although most people still prefer the Ergo, the Bjorn is actually not bad for infants. I researched extensively and could not find a single study to back up those claims. There was one that most articles site but it was later proven that that study was invalid. (I did this research because I had hip problems as an infant and did not want anything that might cause my child to go through the same). The hip problems come from many different carriers and occur when people use them wrong. Even the infamous “crotch dangler” argument has no scientific basis. And if you do have a study that proves otherwise please feel free to let me know. I am all for knowing the truth. Thanks.

      • Amanda

I came across many articles like that one. However, it never specifically calls out the Bjorn. In fact, it helps prove my point (for one thing the risk goes down greatly after 6 months of age for dysplasia so why does everyone still point to the Bjorn being bad for all infants). It states that there are many different carriers and each baby may fit one better than another. If a baby is positioned correctly in the Bjorn, the hips are fine. Again, this is something very serious to me as I was went through hip dysplasia. I know a lot of men prefer the Bjorn because it fits them better (my husband included, although I will admit that we do not use it often at all) and I can honestly and confidently tell you that my son sits perfectly fine in it. Also, I know most people prefer other brands and that is fine, I strongly agree with personal choice, but I do not agree with people trying to make others feel bad based on misinformation. I’m not looking to start anything with people, just hoping to help people see both sides.

Well for starters there aren’t scientific studies done on this because no one is going to do a study that could potentially harm a child. But to me it’s common sense. I don’t want to hang from my crotch.

      • Amanda

There have been studies done. I have come across quite a few. All of them (save the one I referenced in my original post) showed that there was no problem with the Bjorn type of carrier. Again, it’s all personal preference. It is not as uncomfortable as people think it is for infants. Also, keep in mind that infants have a totally different center of balance than we do.

I have had a Bjorne for two babies and I love it. They make some great accessories for the carriers too…..weather covers, burp cloth inserts, extenders, etc. My hubby is 6’6″ and after trying on tons of carriers in the store this was the only one that fit him correctly, all of the other carriers put the baby at his chest and up to his neck. It easily adjusts for me to wear as well. It breathes really nice and I have never removed the baby and carrier and was left with a sweat impression of the carrier on my shirt. Read the manual carefully on how to properly adjust and hold baby in the carrier, I see many people wearing them improperly or baby not adjusted properly either.

i agree with earlier posts – this carrier is not ergonomically correct for babies. and WAY overpriced considering. i’d go with ergo, boba, a meitai, a wrap… you can get tons of carriers for this same sale price!!

  12. Jessica R.

I have used the Bjorn, but my back started hurting right away & I was only carrying a small baby. I bought the Ergo last year & wish that I had had it with my first two kids.

  13. Jo

I had a bjorn for my first, but we weren’t able to use it long because it hurt my back so badly. With my second, I tried a Moby wrap, but it really just wasn’t that easy to put on in public. I wanted an ergo but didn’t want to drop over $100 on ANOTHER carrier. We have a children’s consignment shop that was selling it used for $50. It has held up great, and I LOVE it (and so does my baby)!

  14. Andrea

I’m reading posts and I have to ask….the people who commented their back hurt with the baby bjorn did you have this model? I absolutely love my baby bjorn and it is exact one. Many people buy the less expensive bjorn which I do think hurts your back. My friend hated hers and actually took mine in vacation and then purchased it. This is a great price and I love it!!
