Amazon Prime: New Members Start FREE 30-Day Trial and Lock in First Year for $79/Year (Thru 3/19!) + More
Don’t forget – tomorrow is the last day to get in on this offer!
As I mentioned last week here, Amazon.com recently announced that existing Prime members will now pay $99 per year on their annual renewal date and Amazon Student members will pay $49. However, if you have to join Prime (or you’ve been debating about whether to join), now is the time to do so! Through tomorrow 3/19 only, new Prime Members can start a 30-day FREE Trial of Amazon Prime and lock in at the $79 price for the first year of membership (a $20 savings).
When you enroll in the free trial of Amazon Prime, you’ll have access to the benefits of FREE two-day shipping (my favorite feature! 😀 ), unlimited Prime Instant Video, and access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. Note that you won’t be charged for your free trial, BUT you will be automatically upgraded to a paid membership plan (at the locked in rate of $79 for the first year) at the end of the trial period. To cancel your Amazon Prime Trial, you will just need to go to to Manage Your Prime Membership and click “Do not continue”.
And, if you’re a current Amazon Prime member but have not used the Subscribe & Save program yet, you can get a whopping 30% off your first subscription when you use the promo code SNSPRIME at checkout – valid through April 17th! Keep in mind that this promo code is only valid when subscribing to Health, Beauty, Baby, and Grocery items and will not apply towards diapers, wipes, or products from Pets, Office Supply, Kitchen & Home, Musical Instruments, or Automotive. Plus, don’t forget that you can pair this awesome Subscribe & Save discount with a coupon to save even more! Go here for more details.
**Remember, when you sign up for Subscribe and Save, you are under NO obligation whatsoever and can cancel at anytime. To cancel or modify your Subscribe and Save items, just click on “my account” and then “subscriptions” and with the click of a button you can cancel and/or modify anything you want.

I’ve used the 30 day free trial before and was able to get it again!!
Thanks for the tip! Worked for me, too. 🙂
How were you able to do that? Had you paid for a membership following the trial?
I had the trial in December of last year and was not able to do the trial again now.
Does anyone know if the Student Prime and the regular Prime have the same benefits?
Amazon student doesn’t include amazon mom. Deal breaker for me.
But I will still get the free shipping and streaming? My kids are older now. 🙁 They grew up too fast. I know… my kids are older and I’m just going back to school! lol
Yes you will still get all that. 🙂
You can be an amazon student and and Amazon mom I am.
They should have let existing members be locked in at $79 renewal. That would be nice.
Existing don’t have to pay the new rate until 2015…this is exactly the same thing.
Mine renews June 2014 at the new rate 🙁 Not 2015
Same, got an email letting me know in June I’d be charged 99.
That’s odd, mine doesn’t change until 2015…and I don’t renew until September.
With Amazon Prime can you use the lending library with the kindle app on your iPad or do you have to own a kindle to get the free kindle book advantages?
It always says you have to have a Kindle. I’m not sure just having the app is enough.
And how do you sign up as a student, I don’t see the link?
Hi. Here is link to join amazon student. I would appreciate you issuing my link to join.

MeShell, do you go to ECU by any chance? Your name is very unique and I know someone at ECU with that same spelling and capitalization. 🙂
I want to say a big Thanks to Hip2Save! I’m a mom, student and on a budget. I had no idea there was an Amazon prime for students. I snatched that up 🙂
As much as I hate to see the price increase, it is still worth every penny for prime. J just joined this year but my sister had been a member for years. She always told me to join and I wish I would have sooner. If you are on the fence about this, I suggest the trial now. You will happy you did come Xmas time.
When you purchase a Prime membership, you can also invite up to 4 family members to share your Prime 2 day shipping benefit at no additional cost. The family members do not have to live with you and will have their own separate account. My mom and sister have been on our account for years. To add family members, just go to “Your Prime”, then “Manage your membership”, then click on “Invite a family member”.
Thank you for that info! I can add my parents and they will never worry about that nasty shipping charge
Oh thank you so much for sharing that! If I can share this with my parents and sister, then it’s totally worth the $79!! I’ve always been on the fence and have enjoyed the free trials so that just sealed the deal!! Thanks!!
hey just watching your video very helpful! what is the deal with the amazon “open box” stuff in the warehouse section…has anyone bought any of it. I assume it means someone opened the box but does that equate to being “used” like did they use part of the pack and call it open box?TIA
