mom, collin is messing with my computer!!
these seem a bit pricey for Hunt’s.

I was about to tell you that keep in mind that these are larger puddings, and so the price will be higher, but when I do the cost per ounce or package analysis, the price is indeed high.

        The regular sized ones, which are 3.5 oz., are usually $1.00. 3.5 oz. x 6 = 21 oz. $1 / 21 oz = (approximately) 4.76 cents per oz. These Super ones are 5.5 oz. each, and so 5.5 x 6 = 33 oz. $2.48 / 33 oz. = (approximately) 7.52 cents per oz.

Another way to look at it is that the entire 6 Super ones are approximately 1.57% more than the 21 oz total for the 6 regular ones (33 / 21). So, the price should be $1.57 ($1 x 1.57%).

But you only get 4 of the smaller ones, not 6 as in your calculation…

          • Ro

Yes, the regular ones bring 4 only. I can’t believe I forgot about that. The new calculations are below, and as you (or another Donna) have pointed out, the price is very near to the 4 pack ones. The price is however a bit higher than it should be on a per ounce basis.

            The regular sized ones, which are 3.5 oz., are usually $1.00. 3.5 oz. x 4 = 14 oz. $1 / 14 oz = (approximately) 7.14 cents per oz. These Super ones are 5.5 oz. each, and so 5.5 x 6 = 33 oz. $2.48 / 33 oz. = (approximately) 7.52 cents per oz.

Another way to look at it is that the entire 6 Super ones are approximately 2.36% more than the 14 oz total for the 4 regular ones (33 / 14). So, the price should be $2.36 ($1 x 2.36%).

O yea I seen these the other day, didn’t take sec to realize uh that doesn’t add up. Why would I buy these if I could get 2 regular 4 packs for just about the same price? Did a quick look at ounces etc. This is bad packaging and marketing on their end.

Thanks for breaking down the exact numbers, on paper.

          • Donna

According to my calculations, the price is almost exactly the same without the coupon since the 6 pack has more ounces per container. So with the coupon, you’d be saving roughly $1.00.

From the packaging it seemed to look like only the bottom 3 cups were larger?

I usually buy the 4 packs because they are frequently on 10/10 at my Kroger. I think there is a digital coupon for the Hunts 4 pack you can download onto your Kroger card right now if anyone is interested.

I have small kids so I buy the smaller cups or we waste alot. This is a great price for the bigger pudding cup, thanks Collin!
