My store too. Got a couple notebooks and folders, nothing amazing. Keeping an eye on the Kindermats, Sharpies, Crayola Twistables and printer paper.

      • Lisa

Don’t wait much on the kindermat, they are nearly impossible to find except now/fall.

  4. Tara

I was at the Target in TN today and back in the school section they had select thermos bottles 50% off. The ones included were Angry Birds, Skylanders, Hello Kitty and the Littlest Pet Shop. They were $7.48. Good luck finding some at your stores

  5. Liz

When do they mark down school supplies? My store is still 30 and few 50%. I’m going to wait too.

    • Pinki

Lucky you. I paid 12 cents.

      • Janna

The 70 ct is .07. I think the one above that is .12. πŸ™‚

        • Mckenzie

At my target there were 70 ct. wide ruled notebooks for $0.02. I got 29 of them for only $0.58!!!

  9. Fairy

My 2 year old is starting pre school 2 days a week, do the teachers get gifts at the end of school year or how does it work? First time mom, so I have no idea how the system works.

    • Jennifer B.

You will probably receive quite varied answers, but for myself, I felt like Christmas (or “winter break”) and year-end were the two times to “gift” my children’s teachers.

I don’t know if a preschool would have it, but once your little one hits elementary school, there will likely be a coordinated PTA “teacher appreciation” effort (often a week-long extravaganza with meals and suggestions for each day).

Some parents never gift their kids’ teachers, and some are able to give generously. I think it really is the thought that counts, and a sweet, sincere note of appreciation can mean so much without costing much. Volunteering time to help with projects at home or coming to the class to help is also often appreciated (and doesn’t break the budget to give).

Personally, I don’t give things I wouldn’t want to have sitting around (no world’s best teacher stuff, apple things, mugs, etc.). I also worry about food preferences or allergies, so I usually go with giftcards, figuring they can always regift those if it is something they cannot use (like Starbucks for a non-coffee drinker). I generally go with Target giftcards because ours is a Super Target and most people can find something to buy there that they’d use.

    • draya

Usually during teachers appreciation….but sometimes whenever there may be a need…they sometimes send notes home requesting items…hth

    • Renee

Gifts are always optional, but they are welcomed during Christmas and other major holidays. Teacher Appreciation is in May; then you have the end of the school year. Usually the other parents will let you know when and how gifts are given to teachers at your child’s school.

    • Danica

I would say yes, they get gifts…but probably not anything that’s a school supply. A gift card or DIY gift is usually what I give–a preschool teacher doesn’t need most of this stuff, and as a teacher myself I must admit I don’t love getting school supplies as gifts…

      • Christen

I agree, lol. I have gotten a few deals on pens, markers, and highlighters recently. I already sent some to my daughters teacher. Last year for my daughters kindergarten teacher I have her a scarf, necklace and earrings for Christmas (she loves scarves!) and I had this precious bracelet made for her for the end of the year!

    • amie

I hate seeing posts like the reply you got. You do what you feel is nice, and affordable for you. If you think a box of school supplies that your teacher will be able to use throughout the school years, then do it. If you don’t, and you want to make her a coffee mug to show how much you appreciate them teaching your child, then do that. Don’t do something because someone responded as a teacher saying they don’t love getting certain items as gifts. No matter what, it is always the thought that counts, period. I’m not a teacher, but I’ve done plenty of PTA, and it always annoys me when people say I don’t like or would rather not get. It just really bothers me, and I don’t always get them awesome “gifts” and have done homemade to 5.00 starbucks cards.
Now for me. The school supplies, I take my list for my kids who will be in school next year, and I gather the supplies from that list, so they have their stuff. I will probably run down there today. I will have all four kids in school ranging from 6th down to Kinder. This will be the cheapest and easiest way to get their supplies, store them in boxes, labeled for which kid, and tuck away for next year. This past year, I started well before the school supplies were out and finished before the rush between what I had bought last year and stored at my parents to what was bought this year.

      • Rose

Amie that is so smart start buying for next year I’m definaltely going to do that!

        • Erin

Be careful about buying glue sticks/markers in advance. They can dry out by the time you use them.

      • justme

I printed the supply lists for next year (they usually don’t change much) I ran into another parent from my kids class and she asked what I was doing since school started for us a few weeks ago. I told her I was buying for next year and she told me I’m Crazy! I’m with Amie I don’t think I’m crazy I’d call it smart because I’m saving tons of money.

        • Lisa

What a mean thing to say to someone. You are NOT crazy for thinking ahead. I’ve been buying the 1-cent folders, etc. for the last 3 years. (But I learned the hard way that glue sticks and markers DO dry out, faster than you’d think.)

      • Arby

I have also begun my school shopping for next year. You can’t go wrong with paper, folders, notebook, and pencils. With my wife being a teacher she also benefits as she has supplies on hand for her students. Her district provides her with a gift card to Office Depot which she uses for large items and printer cartridges since she does a lot printing at home.

    • Dawn

I AM a teacher and honestly I agree being giving for things like teacher appreciation day such as school supplies is annoying when it is literally a bag of supplies. I have had parents turn a pack of pencils into a vase and had their child make/ decorate flowers to put in the vase. That I find thoughtful and useful. However, most classrooms need replacement supplies come December so you can make a donation of school supplies like paper, glue sticks, crayons, pencils. Sometimes you can never have enough of those supplies and seems like they always get lost, broken or need replaced lol!

    • Erin

I wouldn’t worry about supplying a preschool with stuff, since you are paying out of pocket for it. They should have all the supplies they need.

  10. Gabi

Shopmium has a $.50 rebate on the purchase of any square 3″x3″ pack πŸ˜‰

    • Gabi

For the Post-It notes that is!

  11. Janna

The 4-inch Case-It binder was marked 50% off! Great for coupons!! They are normally $24.99 and mine was $12.48!! So excited! This also applies toward the $5 gift card back when you spend $25 on school supplies. πŸ™‚

  12. alyssa

I went to walmart yesterday and found the Crayola twistsble crayons for a dollar! (San Francisco Bay area)

  13. Rebecca

I think I add this every year to the school supply clearance post πŸ™‚ but it is a great time to add to your gift closet. When the kids were little our go to bday gift was a craft basket. We did a colorful bucket from the dollar store (we bought a paint pen and put the kid’s name on it), fun art supplies from clearance time, colored paper, craft sticks, dabber, paints, etc. You could add a craft apron bought with AC Coupon. Lots of room to personalize. The gifts were always well received over another toy they may already have.

    • Shannon

Rebecca- thanks you posting. What a crazy good idea!!!! Love this.

      • Erin

Just be careful about storing things that can dry out (markers, glue sticks) for a long time.

  14. Jen

My Target had backpacks 50% off yesterday:)

  15. charlotte haines

Last year I got a good deal on a lot of pencils…..during the big test in the Spring I sent a fwe pks that where sharpened to my kids homeroom teachers……Got notes back from both REALLY thankful for my donation.

  16. Kathleen

This is really annoying to me personally as Target would not accept their OWN store coupons on the Scotch Tape and Post its, UP & UP and Mead back when I was buying school supplies. It was unpleasant to print out a couple of each of these coupons, go to the store, gather up all these items which were suppose to be free or cheap after coupon and then not be able to check out. Then not only did they not accept their coupons they accused me of being dishonest for trying to get free items. I’ll be remembering that when I am doing my Christmas shopping at “any other store”!

  17. Monica

They were fisher price reg 32 they had one boy money one left and they had a girl one to i have a baby shower 28th and grabbed it and thomas table booster seat with train track on it for 11.00!

  18. janice

My target is only at 30% off. Boo πŸ™
