Anyone know which newspaper in Richmond, VA has the Sunday coupons on Saturdays or even earlier?

    • mich

Some dollar trees, if you have them, have them early. You can call them to check beforehand.

    • Carol_R

I don’t know about Richmond. I live in the Northern VA area. But here, the major grocery stores will have the newspaper as well as Rite Aid.

    • MD

I don’t live in VA, I’m in NYC and my local deli gets certain pages of the Sunday NY Daily News on Fridays along with the inserts. They are not put out for sale, but I always see the stack and ask if I can buy it, they never have a problem. Maybe you should to ask your local deli. I honestly don’t know if other locations get the Sunday papers partially delivered to them early, but there really is no harm in asking.

    • Meg

Thanks guys. But I didn’t find any in the Walgreens near me.

  2. mckeeversmom

If you live close to a Walgreen’s you might find the Sunday paper (complete with inserts) there. I’m not sure what stores carry them early, though. Sorry.

    • Meg

My Walgreens staff told they never get Sunday paper before 5am

  3. TeresaAnn

I have a question that is off the topic, but wanted to see if anyone heard of this or had problems…

My daughter and I have had the worst time getting printed internet coupons to go through at Walmart and even Safeway. They wave and wave that piece of paper over the scanner with no success. Both stores have now said their new policy is to “not except it if it does not scan.” Today my daughter went to Walmart and was using about 15 coupons that again…would not go through. She said the cashier or somebody told her they have new scanners and they will only read “regular ink settings.” Meaning no draft quality to save ink.

Its the first I heard of this and they worked before with no problems but now I have to use up my ink faster go get them to read at the register. I am thinking this is why I had trouble at Safeway too. Mine is set to draft quality and I think its still pretty dark so im wondering how much darker they will be if I put it on regular quality..

I was just wondering if anyone else had problems at their Walmart (if you shop there) and have resorted to either stop couponing there or printing darker coupons to please the machine.

    • Alyssa

      Hi TeresaAnn –
I’ve had a similar problem with printed coupons at Walmart. My printer is on the “draft” setting, and Walmart cashiers always have a hard time scanning them. I guess I’ve been lucky because the cashier I almost always go to doesn’t give up. She keeps trying over and over again until it finally works.
As far as the policy of only accepting coupons that can be scanned, I think it’s been the policy for a while. I recall seeing it a while back when I first started couponing and was learning stores’ policies. I just checked Walmart’s website (https://corporate.walmart.com/coupon-policy), and it does say that printed coupons “must have a scannable bar code.”
I continue to use the draft setting because it works just fine everywhere else. I definitely agree with you that it might not be worth wasting ink to print them on the “regular” setting. I also print grayscale instead of color to save the color tanks.
      I hope that helps.

    • Gretchen

Yes, I got the same thing at safeway. I started printing darker, which worked, but I went thru a cartridge in a week. Also irked me because a lot of times the coupon was already loaded on my club card and the cashier wouldn’t give my coupon back! I try mainly shop at Target now as they are pretty competitive and only go to safe way if they have a really good deal I don’t need a coupon for. Also I’m pretty lucky there are a lot of clearance outlet grocery stores in my area, and also Dollar treed takes coupons no matter what, they always just type them in. For the most part though, I have found my favorite cashiers at Target and always get in their line, they always take my coupons no matter what as well -I have found usually young females are the easiest cashiers to make friends with so they take all your coupons – oh well having three screaming but adorable kids with me probably helps, too!

Thank you Alyssa and Gretchen for your responses πŸ™‚ I figured the policy probably existed. Still irks me lol..I mean they are good coupons. In my area the closest is Safeway, Walmart and Target. I usually go to them for different reasons. Safeway for the $5 Fridays or Just for You deals etc etc. Walmart for groceries because my Target is limited and Target for all the good stacking going on πŸ™‚

Its going to get more difficult for groceries now. I just don’t feel like changing my printer settings for certain Walmart coupons and draft for Target and back to high color print for my few Safeway ones..and i agree, ink will be gone in a week! Strangely though, when i go through the self check out the coupons come right off!

Hi. Food4less was the store that had problem scanning my coupons, but thankfully the cashiers were always nice to input my coupons. What help for me was using another brand of ink and I didn’t have changed any of my settings.

I use hp 60 I believe for both black and color. Even on draft they come through really dark to me. So Im like how do the scanners not see these lines?! lol.

i live in brandon, florida and the paper i buy on sunday no longer includes the red plum inserts.the paper said that tampa papers will no longer have the inserts. is there any paper i can buy on sundays that have the inserts.

  5. Kelli

Anyone else not get ANY coupons in the Gainesville Sun today? So frustrating.

  6. sandy

Does anyone know why the Tampa Bay area papers haven’t been getting the Plum inserts?

    • Anna

Due to coupon selling online on ebay, red plum decided to take them away from that area. Florida is the only place I know that they are doing that.

Not all of FL, I live in the central region and I always get RP inserts every Sunday. If you live in FL, maybe you can subscribe to the Orlando sentinel to get the RPs. I’m sorry to hear that greedy couponers costed the innocent ones to lose out on some nice value coupons, Sandy…

My problem is sometimes buying a couple of papers and seeing an insert gone whether it was an SS or RP, so frustrating. It has only happened at Walmart. Recently they started banding the newspaper so you needed to break the seal in order to flip through the papers. I’m thankful for that prevention method since this was a common problem.

I buy 2 newspapers here in Baton Rouge. The Advocate has Redplum, Smartsource, and P&G. The Times Picayune only had Smartsource. Something isn’t right because Picayune normally has coupons with the Advocate does not! I hope this isn’t going to happen each week. I don’t wanna go back to buying coupons online.

I just realized my red plum didn’t have the folgers coupon and almost cried! I hate coffee but my boyfriend lives off of it. Works been slow and I was so excited to finally be able to get him more coffee. If anyone has any extra they don’t need please email me at itssarawatuspect@gmail.com

My husband bought 4 copies of our local paper. 3 of them had only the P&G inserts. And the 4th one didn’t have any at all. πŸ™
For those of you who go out to the store to buy the papers, do you open and check to make sure inserts are in before you purchase them or buy them and just hope that they are in there?
