I wanted to share this and I hope it makes you smile.

I won a $100 Visa gift card from work a few weeks back. I plotted for hours how I was going to spend that money on myself. I was waiting for the right deal to come along and it was going to buy me a facial, massage, clothing, or a purse. Whatever caught my eye at that moment. It remained tucked away for that one killer deal, then I realized I don’t need any of that stuff. I’m so blessed and get everything I could ever want thanks to help from your hip deals.

I decided to take the gift card and buy 13 dozen roses instead. I handed out a rose to every resident of the nursing home where my Grandma lived before she passed away. She would always say bring me flowers while I’m living. I put a smile on many faces and it felt so rewarding. I had some roses left over so when I stopped to buy gas I placed one at the pump with a little note.

HAPPY FRIDAY! 😀

I love that this got such a great response! My heart is filled with joy! I didn’t cry while I did this act and I didn’t cry when I wrote this…okay I cried a little when I got asked by one of the residents why I was giving them a flower, but I’m crying like a baby right now. My Grandma was such an amazing person and I know she would have been proud and delighted by this. I hope that everyone will spread this love and cheer around. <3

Thank you for a beautiful act, I just lost my gram on Monday she was at a facility for many years an we have been thinking of a way to help honor her but do something for the residents she lived with

      • Amanda

Heidi, I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Grandparents are very special people and I’m sure whatever way you decide to honor her, it will bring happiness to world and that’s a beautiful thing.

This brought joy to my heart that you were so loving and thoughtful enough to share with those who may be forgotten by others that do not even have family left-some who may have served to secure our freedom for us. You are such a gem, and I know you did not do it for the glory, but the reward that you get for doing such a thing is a very good feeling of accomplishment-right?

I’ll share with you one of the things I did on my birthday several years or so before my mother passed away. I sent her flowers with the card saying, “Thank you for giving me life, which I have enjoyed thanks to you. Love, and my name”. We live in another state. She called me and said it is your birthday, but I got flowers??? I said I thought it was about time that I thanked her for giving me birth and just wanted her to know I appreciated that and her.

That is a very inspiring thing you did and makes me think about my own mom and how grateful I am to her.

I definitely didn’t do it for glory but I am very flattered by all the compliments, I’ve been smiling all day from all the beautiful words and wishes that people are writing.

I won this gift card for being “Team Member of the Year” at the grocery store were I work. I was very happy with this gift because it’s not every day I get an extra bit of money. My boyfriend has no job so money is always tight and we struggle like most everybody does. So I rarely splurge on anything but we get by just fine because our bills are cheap, I have no kids, and Collin posts some amazing deals that let us live comfortably. I think you’re absolutely right though, the best reward is the feeling. No purse or massage would have made so many people so happy! I don’t focus on my financial situation because really as long as I have a home and my family I’m set and I’ll never miss that thing I could have bought with that gift card because it’s not every day that I get to make so many people smile.

Lovely. The best deal is being able to bring joy and kindness to others. Way to go.

Amanda, you are a great person! I love random acts of kindness. Your story reminded me of my cousin. A couple years ago my grandpa passed away while living in a veteran’s hospital. Two years ago I took my kids there on Halloween so my grandpa could see them. My cousin did the same. This year on Halloween my cousin posted that even though my grandpa isn’t there anymore she dressed her kids up and took them to see the vets. She said her 3 year old walked up to a man that didn’t look very happy and said trick or treat. The man was eating a bag of cheetos. He smiled and put a single cheeto in her bag. One of the nurses told my cousin that man never smiles at anyone. By small and simple things, great things come to pass! Have a great weekend everyone!!

What a sweet person your cousin must be! I love to hear cute things like that. (:

As a former nursing home social worker who has seen a large percentage of patients with no family contact, THANK YOU!!!! I hope you are blessed tenfold for the joy you brought to those who needed it…. probably needed it more than you could ever realize. Your grandma would be so proud.

I can tell your Grandma must have been one amazing lady, because of the wonderful Granddaughter she has. I literally cried and cried as I read this and now crying as I type this. I miss my Mom and Grandma so much and seems the news is full of selfish acts and to hear your sweet selfless story it is amazing and exactly what i needed to start my week. You thought you were bringing cheer to the residents, but you have done so much more than that! You are an amazing lady. Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow!! I would find that so hard to do! Bless you!
