I have worked in retail for years. This happens every season. Usually there are no issues. As the manager of any store it is your job to mark these items down and then follow directions from corporate about what to do with them. Some companies donate to Salvation Army or Goodwill (Target) and some just fill their dumpsters (BBW). After working retail for many years I went to work for a trash hauling company. I can’t believe how much we throw away in this country. My last year in retail I took all the zero’ed out items to our local childrens home. 4 carloads of halloween costumes and goodies. The teenagers staying there at that time unloaded the car for me and it took about a minute each trip for them to empty it. Having seen these kids out trick or treating when I was a child made an impression on me. I know they had a few good Halloween parties after that donation.
Tracy is right. This is usually an indicator to the store to pull those items off the shelves, as they are discontinued. Some companies say what to do with them, others let the manager decide. I remember with some things (old software that wasn’t useful anymore, like old versions of TurboTax) we had to destroy them, so they couldn’t be pulled out of the dumpster.

Nothing in Milford. The staff said that they had pulled it and all goes to donation, and they’re not allowed to sell it.
One of the shoes pictured I bought a couple of weeks ago for my daughter $13, I ended up returning them cause she kept tripping in them.
I used to work at BRU and I’m shocked they wouldn’t sell them, this happened with every clearance. Maybe not 3 cents but a quarter to 50 cents was not uncommon at all. The only thing would be if there was a glitch and items that shouldn’t be ringing that low were. Its usually stuff from 2 “seasons” ago that’s ringing up for change so Halloween costumes would be a glitch but spring onsies I could see.
These items are usually what go in the “grab bags” you see at different places like Michael’s or Claires. I used to work at Afterthoughts (now the Icing) in HS and we would often find “penny” items. If they didn’t go in grab bags they were thrown away. Sad waste.
Too bad we have a blizzard and driving ban. Maybe there will still be some left after the driving ban is lifted.
I’m in Western NY too…thought the same thing.
Thinking of all of you in Western NY who are snow bound. We are used to that amount of lake effect snow here in Syracuse area but ours usually builds up like that over several weeks not in a couple of days. North of here is getting pounded, too. Crazy! Big warm hugs and stay safe. 🙂

it kills really me when stores trow stuff away. there’s so manny people in need.
They aren’t throwing them away, the marked down items will be donated.
Online if you try to add to cart it has an error message that says “this item not available for purchase online.” Which would imply that you could buy it in stores. Too confusing. If I had a Babies R Us near me I might go look, but I doubt it’s worth the trouble.

I just called my store in Killeen, TX. The guy was super rude to me (almost to the point of yelling) and said these items were being donated. When I mentioned that others had been able to buy the items he said they were lying. SMH. I was really polite and he bit my head off. Guess working at a toy store during the holidays isn’t the best idea for some? Good luck to everyone else!

Next time don’t call…..sometimes if the employees find out , they buy it all themselves! Saw this happen in Oct for Target sale. I scored some non Halloween spider man sweaters and the employee quickly went to lunch to grab hers , and made sure to tell the others.
Calling the stores is never any benefit. How things ring up is usually a surprise to the cashiers, or you just told everyone who works there and they buy them before you get there, or they pull it because it was a glitch. You honestly just have to take a chance and go check in person. Sometimes you win and sometimes you dont.
wow, those are super prices for those that got in on some of the items. these would make great additions to Operation Xmas child shoeboxes for less fortunate kids as well as great gifts for my new baby nephews and another two baby niece or nephew on the way.

They had pulled them all for charity. I found about 10 items they missed.
Columbus Ohio Polaris location there is nothing. The clerk said they were all out already. They were supposed to be donated items, but they did end up selling them.

I just went and scored some toddler water shoes and summer hats. All the koala brand. The manager did say they got an email and were told to pull it for donations. So good luck everyone! But they did honor the 3 cents on all the items!
Got some boy shirts, Halloween items – bibs, shoes, hats, trick/treat bag for 0.03. Wasn’t able to find any shoes and didn’t try to look for infant clothing. Got a Halloween pajama for 2.98. As I was leaving, cashier informed manager and they started pulling items off shelf. Sterling, VA store

Please don’t resale for a profit. Donate. There are lots of children who need clothes as their parents can’t afford to get them any. Put a smile on a child’s face. If you are blessed than pay it forward! That’s what I teach my children. My kids love putting smiles on other kids faces!
If she went to the effort to buy the stuff, why can’t she make a few bucks off of it? She’s not doing anything different then the store did, buy and sell for profit?
Windy, I buy and resell some but for a charity. I donate plenty too. I am thankful for whatever I find because there are shoppers like you that take no issue to wipe a store and resell. Clearly, empathy is a life lesson for you.

I didn’t find any deals in Salt Lake City but the Disney gift box diapers were marked down to $10. Size 3 contains 112 diapers and a pack of wipes plus $40 off in coupons on the inside!
