With the holidays upon us, you may be attending a party and be asked to bring a White Elephant gift. If you’re not familiar with a White Elephant gift exchange, here’s the description from Wikipedia:

[h2s_box]A white elephant gift exchange is a popular holiday party game found primarily in North America. Generally, white elephant parties need a minimum of six participants. With a larger group, game play may be more protracted. White elephant parties have been known to result in playful rivalries between players trying to get sought after gifts. The goal of a white elephant party is usually to entertain rather than to gain. [/h2s_box]

With that being said, do you have any great gift ideas? Either funny ones (love those!) or gifts that you know others will want to steal. Please share with us in the comments below! 🙂

You can wrap a roll of toilet paper and write on the inside/outside “Incase you get CRAP for CHRISTMAS” LOL

  2. Karen

A 6 pack of beer or scratch tickets are always a huge hit

  3. Barb

I definitely brought a hamster to my husband’s fancy work party this year…and I didn’t tell him what I was bringing. It was epic!

    • Jody

My uncle got a hamster at our family Christmas party and said he was going to BBQ it, so we ended up bringing it home so my kids would stop crying!

  4. Mel

I bought fake lotto tickets from Amazon last year. My prankster cousin got them in the end and scratched them off. He truly thought that he won $1000 until I started laughing so hard I was crying! Also did Collin’s “I pooped today” shirt last year which was a big hit!!

  5. Jen

    A framed picture of myself;)

    • DC

      Haha Jen, love it!

    • Holly

We have a traveling frame and whoever gets it has a picture of the previous winner. It then has to stay up in their house for the whole year. We have had some interesting pictures of our family members. It is a fun tradition in our family.

Here’s a couple of ideas my family have used in the past:
Fill a zip lock bag with malted milk balls and put this note on the outside “I’ve heard you’ve been bad so here’s the scoop. All you’re getting this year is reindeer poop!”
The second idea: Cut out 2 tiny black circles, 1 black triangle and 1 “carrot” shaped piece. Place all in a 1 quart jar of water. Label it “Texas Snowman”

These are funny! My white elephant gift this year is going to be a selfie stick.

  8. Misti

I’ve given five golden fish before, instead of five golden rings with a gift card hidden in the bag, it was the hit of the party!

  9. j

a four pack of toilet paper with a giftcard hidden inside

  10. Amanda

I think I’m going to make one of those ‘keep the change’ mason jar wall plaques (see Pinterest) but put ‘keep the change you filthy animal’ on it. Probably throw in a gift card too.

    • Cami

      Lol

  11. Trinity

Snuggles are always a good white elephant gift. 🙂 one exchange I did had a huge glittery, ornate elephant statue that was actually the hit of the party; I think they found it at Ross.
Off topic, what is a good gift from a boss to his office help?!

    • Megan

A nice catered breakfast or lunch. Gift card for a nearby coffee shop or lunch restaurant. Bottle of wine. Mini bottles of booze. Home brewed beer. Drinks and appetizers at happy hour.

  12. Shelly

Just had a good one at work today. It was a can of root beer taped to a can of baked beans and it had a note that said, “Have a rootin’ tootin’ holiday!”.

  13. Kaelie

My favorite white elephant of all time was when my husband’s co-worker gave a framed 8X10 of himself; what made it hilarious was that he wore a rolled-up shirt which showed a flexed bicep with a fake tattoo of a heart that read I LOVE BOB within the heart. Punch line… Bob is the boss!

    • Cami

      That’s hysterical!!

  14. Angi

How does white elephant work? Do you steal the gift before or after it’s been opened?

    • Melissa

Kari, I went to Amazon to see the Justin Bieber comforter, and got a good laugh. But the laughs continue, because now Amazon thinks that I am a Bieber fan and is now recommending all things Bieber to me. Hopefully they quit soon!

  15. Christie

I purchased toy handcuffs one year. It can be interpreted many different ways when someone wants to trade for them 😉

  22. Jamie

  23. Kristen

  24. nena

I had a Xmas party last year and we played this game. Although the gift I brought nobody wanted in the beginning….it was a junky, ugly vase with chipped paint. That thing got passed around non stop. But the one “stuck” with it at the end was excited to find $50 inside 🙂

    • Luz

      NICE!

      • katie z

        Awesome!!!

  26. Heather

My siblings and I are doing a theme of long or fat or hard to wrap with $30 to spend anyone have any good ideas

    • Terry

I’d get a garden hose. It would be “long”. If you take it out of the packaging, it would be “hard to wrap”.

      • Heather

Lol that’s a great Idea I hadn’t thought of, thanks

    • Sandy

Sleeping bags! They are fat and hard to wrap. I just wrapped two for my grand boys!

  27. Paula Neal

A beautifully-wrapped fruitcake . . . with a gift card or money hidden in the packaging.

  28. Cherie

I always do either a holiday mug filled with various $5 gift cards or a bag of chocolates with scratcher tickets taped all over it. Both are ALWAYS a huge hit!!

  29. Kate

I got toilet golf this year, $5 at 5 below lol

  30. Sarah

One year, I made coasters out of old comic books and some $1 plumbing gasket thingies I found at Lowes. (The gaskets are a metal disc backed with foam. I glued the part you were supposed to punch out of the middle, making them a solid metal plate on top, with foam on the bottom.) I mod podged the comic book covers onto the metal plate and sealed it with several more layers of mod podge. They were the most fought over item at the party, and only cost about $5 to make!

  31. Alex

    giant squirrel feeder head
