I was so excited about this promotion. I used my trial membership and cancelled it in May and Amazon charged me $99. When I called to see if they could adjust the price they said that they couldn’t because I had already used my free trial with didn’t make me a new member. Oh well. I think I’ll just avoid Amazon from here on out. I was going to renew the membership too just don’t have $99 I can blow right now.

    • K

Use a different email address for the $67

    • Steph

Avoiding Amazon over not having prime is silly. Even without prime Amazon offers great deals. Also, you can share the prime with people. My husband and I have prime and we order everything for our family and they just come pick it up from our house.

My husband works for Amazon and does not get any type of discount on prime, but we still pay the full price because its worth it and so nice to get items in 2 days.

      • Laura

I sometimes place an order for a family member as well. Did you know that you can just change the “ship to” address and it will go right to them?

    • NoonRadar

If you have access to a .edu email account–even if you’re not a student–you get a great deal: 6 months FREE of Amazon Prime membership, after that your Prime membership is at 50%, currently that would be $50/year after the free 6 months.

A .edu email address is any email address that ends with .edu. You need that only to activate your Prime Membership, since Amazon emails you the activation link there. Afterwards you can change your email address with Amazon to your regular non-edu email account, you will still be able to keep the membership with the student benefits…forever hopefully, in my case for several years. It asks you to pick a university where you are attending college, if you’re not (no longer) a student, just pick up.

You don’t need a referring link to get these student benefits, but if you use my referring link, you get the same benefits and I get a $5 referring bonus. Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info?ie=UTF8&refcust=PDVF3A23GEX5KALSC4TKO2NYNI

      • Ang

This isn’t accurate unfortunately any more. Now they make you send a current student with year and / or a current semester transcript. I have an .Edu email & when I went to renew they had new qualifications with it.

        • CBNurse

They didn’t make me do that & I signed up as a student recently.

      • NoonRadar

Ang, like CBNurse I had had no such problems as what you’re mentioning. I’ve had Amazon student for years now and I haven’t been in school during any of these years, I renew with no questions asked, it is set to renew automatically so I don’t even do anything.

    • Bandi Lu

I order from them almost everyday for the past 3 years,
not exaggerating (much to my husbands dismay) and I emailed them and asked if there was any price adjustment they could give and they said “no” and they didn’t mention running any promotion for existing members in the future, just a basic NO.

  2. couponlover

how many members can we add under new prime membership?

  3. Lisa

I’m so cheap I wait until my total is over $35

  4. Layla

College students get a 6 month free trial, and 50% off after that

  5. Anon

That looks like my porch during holiday season. Sometimes UPS has to swing back around for a second delivery on the same day. Going to stores during the holiday is over rated. I get the same pricing without the hassle of rude people holiday shopping. Many people don’t know either, you can extend your two day shipping benefits to 3 other people on your account. That’s what me and my husband do.

  6. April

Can you gift it for the $67 price?

  7. Lauren

Thank you so much!! I’ve never had Prime. I’m so excited to try it out!! 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      YW 😀

  8. Tammy

I am a current Amazon prime member that renews in June. I just emailed them a very nice email letting them how much I love Amazon (and I do) but was disappointed with the current promotion for new members. To make a long story short I just got an email back from them letting me know they are planning a promo for those loyal to Prime and they are refunding me $32. Just another reason to love Prime!!!

    • Joni

I just sent them an email too. Hoping that they will adjust mine too. I was getting ready to buy a renewal (Ours is up in 3 months) because I love my PRIME!

    • Se

How soon did you get a reply? I sent an email hours ago & haven’t heard.

      • Tammy

I got a response in about 30 minutes. I was surprised it was so fast.

    • Lisa

Could you please share the Email address? I can’t find it. Thank you.

      • Tammy

Lisa I just signed in to my Prime account and scrolled down to help at the bottom. I then typed Contact us in the search box then scrolled down to the Contact Us Box. I contacted them via email.

  9. Raquel

I renew October 23rd…just emailed asking for the $67 rate very politely. Fingers crossed I get as lucky as some of you receiving credits. 🙂 If not, I’ll probably cancel mine and buy one in the hubby’s name.

    • Liz

My suggestion is to chat with them…i just did..and they said that on my renewal date(oct 22nd) i will be charged only $67….save the chat…in case i get charged full price.

  10. Lisa Campbell

So I am gifting a prime membership, and when I get to the checkout, it still shows $99.

  11. corina t

Total 72.36 with tax… First time getting it..

  12. Kathy B

    Thank you!

  13. Lisa Campbell

From 12:01 a.m. ET through 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on September 25, new members can join Amazon Prime for $67 for the first year in celebration of Amazon’s Emmy Award-winning series, Transparent.

Please visit http://www.amazon.com/transparentprime for more information and to sign up for Amazon Prime. You’ll see the $99 price in your cart, but the promotional discount will be applied at checkout.

Current members of Amazon Prime aren’t eligible for this offer.

  14. Karen

I KNOW that they are trying to get new customers and I also KNOW that Amazon can do whatever they want.
I politely chit-chatted with Amazon and they gave me the deal, despite not being new. Didn’t whine, cry, moan or whatever.

This is akin to why companies do rebates. Most people INTEND to do the rebate, but many DON’T. So the company saves money…..but they get the psychological “win” of appearing to be cheaper.

Think of all the people who have prime who 1) aren’t aware of the promo or 2) won’t bother to ask for the promo as they are a current/not new customer. Big savings for Amazon.

…….and they also made all of us who got the deal even MORE loyal due to their customer service. See how that works? 😉

    • Hope

I am also a prime member and contacted cs in a calm, polite manner. I, too, got a deal and completely agree with your comments. I am pleased with the deal and will continue to rave about their services!

    • Se

When they didn’t email me back, I did chat. I had renewed Prime last month. When I complained, they they cancelled my prime except for like 9 bucks (pro-rated from what I used in Sept, I guess?) , let me sign up for 67. Still a savings!!! 🙂

  15. fireflydreamer

This may be a silly question, but my membership renews in a few months, so I was looking at purchasing a prime membership under my husband’s account. When you purchase it, does it automatically start the membership from today’s date, or do you have an option to start at any date you choose?

    • Kamaya

      It starts from today’s date

  16. LSchex

Be aware that if you have adult children on your membership and you close your membership to get this deal, only one adult will be allowed on your new membership!

    • adri

      what?

      • CW

I believe that’s their new guideline.

  17. Jill

Thank you, I can’t wait to try it. You’re really helping me out with my early Christmas shopping!

  18. Kim

If you add something to the cart and then apply for the card, can you get the $70 gift card leaving the prime FREE????/

    • Kim

Got it FREE with the Amazon credit card!!!

  19. Kim

The idea I just posted will not work but if you make a small purchase with free shipping already, then apply for the credit card and they apply the $70 to your account – so you get your item free and the remaining money to use for you FREE amazon prime!

    • Kim

IT does work! Apply for the card and $70 goes into your account to be used to buy the PRIME at $67!!!

      • Mary Ann

How did you get $70 back? It only says I will get $30 giftcard

        • P

It depends on what card and what you’re approved for. Last year I had a $45 offer on one card and $70 on another.

      • P

Kim- be careful with this card. I got it last year, used it on 1 purchase sold by Amazon (not third party) and I had a fraud charge on it this summer. It was a bit of a hassle because the fraudsters managed to change my security questions. So either Chase or Amazon may be compromised. Since then I use a specific credit card only for online purchases.

        • Carrie

I had trouble with this card as well. I applied in December but by February had not received it. I called and they said they’d send a new card. 2 months later, no card and I started getting collection calls! Someone had used it but it wasn’t me. The company did reverse all charges and close out the account but I was still not happy because that does affect credit.

  20. Kristy

I sent CS a very nice email about missing out on this great promo price since we are already members, and they emailed me back saying they would credit my CC the $32 difference! This is why we love Amazon.

    • Missm

I tried twice via emails to get the credit and kept getting heartfelt “sorry not sorry” denials. Then I tried it via chat and that worked. I got a “promotional credit” (not giftcard) for the $32 which I can use on any product sold & shipped by Amazon. I would’ve preferred credit card refund but I’m very pleased with this too!

  21. Davina

    Thank you.

  22. Gerta

I was in the middle of a trial period. Called to see if I could get the $67 deal and they said yes. BTW, for those not wanting to wait to get a response from email, their toll free number is 888-280-4331.

  23. Michele

When you check out the correct price shows! Got mine yea 🙂

  24. Jo

Please be careful if you are an existing member when contacting Amazon. They accidentally canceled my account and I lost all my household members even though they said they were just crediting the $32 back to my account 🙁

    • mamabug

This is why I am not even going to bother. Eventually we will all lose the household options that used to be in place and go to the one other adult family member on the account – ours expires in January and I want that extra few months to get my niece through Christmas on our Prime account.

      • Jo

They said as long as no changes are made to your prime account all the “household members” will stay even when you renew.

  25. emilieahern

I asked two different CS members for the reduced rate (since I am already a Prime member) and they both said NO. Ugh.

    • Swirlypop

      Then try a 3rd! 😄

    • Kimberly

I am also already a Prime member and also got a response of NO. It seems like YMMV with Amazon Customer Service, just like cashiers at the same stores doing completely different things when it comes to coupon policies and such. I still love Amazon. But I think if they let one person who asked get the discounted rate, they should let everyone.

      • Gina

I also am already a member…as of September 10th. I chatted with them and asked if they would credit my card the difference since I ve only been a member for TWO weeks and they said NO. So then I said I was disappointed and to cancel my membership. My membership was canceled and then I singed up for the new promo rate. Just annoying that I had to jump through hoops…now I’m waiting for my credit to post.

  26. HJ

Can you still share with others from this reduced membership deal? I know amazon prime for students can’t

  27. Teri

I did the chat with amazon. My prime is up in 2 months. They told me too bad. They aren’t giving ANY discounts to current members on their membership. It’s for new members only. That the incentive for prime members to stay prime members was the sale they had on July 15. Oh well.

    • Liz

Teri im an existing member whose membership expires next month…i told them i would not extend my prime unless i was also given this offer…i was immediately offered the promo price…told that i will be charged only $67 next month…so anyone not offered this promo price..i would try again.

  28. Rebecca

Just chatted with them & got $32 refunded. Love amazon!

    • Grace

Did you paid $99 that you got some refund? We’re you prime before? My prime will expire in November was hoping to get it extended for $67. Chatted with rep and no luck.

      • Rebecca

I’ve been prime for a few years. Mine doesn’t renew until Feb. They said they couldn’t lock in this rate for then, but they could refund $32 to my card now. Already got the email that it’s processing.

        • Susan

Bummer. They wouldn’t budge for me.

          • Liz

Susan,Grace…i would try again…be polite and make sure you mention that you will not renew ur prime when ur time is up unless this rate is extended to you now.Thats what i did…and i managed to get it.Im an existing Prime member and my membership expires only next month…the CS said that my prime will get extended next month for this promo rate.I have saved the chat session JIC it doesnt.

          • Lisa McGill

            Me neither 😢

  29. Cc

How do u make the prime membership start at a certain date?

  30. Lori

I’ve been dragging my feet on this all day trying to make up my mind. I was afraid that a membership might make me buy things I wouldn’t otherwise buy. But finally got one. Ended up paying $41 and some change after paying with credit card points and $10 Amazon gift card I earned from Purell loyalty site. Happy with my decision 🙂 Thanks a bunch Hip2Save!

  31. traci

They also refunded me a difference! Chat and be extremely nice and grateful on the chat. They are very understanding! I will be staying with Amazon Prime indefinitely.

  32. Stacy G

Does anyone know if I get this and if I don’t use it in a month can I cancel for a refund? Thanks

  33. Stacy G

Does anyone know if you can cancel and get a refund if you decide not to use thanks

    • Joy

Hi Stacy…mine auto renewed after my trial period. I didn’t realize it until the next month my credit card statement. I emailed them via ‘contact us’…on their site.. and told them I had no intention of renewing because I was just seeing what the prime was all about and my credit card has been charged and I would like a refund. I expected a prorated refund. But they messaged me back and told me it would be cancelled and refunded. My credit card later showed $99 refunded. So try it. If you haven’t used them. I mean you don’t want to go 6+ months and do it.. or maybe you could and they would prorate the refund in that case. Let us all know how it turns out. I missed this yesteray..wish they offered it again today.. anyone try today? Blessings!

  34. Angela

I did a chat with Amazon and the gentleman told me he could cancel my account and gave me the link to sign up for the 67.00 prime and was super friendly about it. Thank you. We weren’t due until Jan but that isn’t that far away and we knew we would be continuing our prime membership!

  35. verlyn

is it really with tax? I was gonna place an order when I see my total was with tax.. I thought it would be just $67

    • Jen

Ya, it’s crazy you get taxed on it.

    • Jean

If you have an Amazon distribution center in your state, you will be charged tax :/

    • ert

      Thank the government for that.

  36. lillee

Thanks to everyone who suggested contacting Amazon! They took care of me!

  37. Carrie

I contacted Amazon only after hearing that other existing prime members got a credit for the $32 difference. They told me there’s nothing they can do for me. 🙁

    • Joy

Did you do it today the 26th? or 25th? was wondering if that was why it is the 26th now on your post. Sorry you didn’t get discount. Wish I had seen this yesterday..but was too busy to check online yesterday.

  38. Cherish

If anyone is a student Amazon gives a free 6 month trial without streaming of TV shows, shipping and pic and video storage are included. After six months the rate for students to have a full prime account is 50% off. When I signed up I just had to verify through my student email account!

  39. chant

well I just spoke to a supervisor at Amazon and he stated that they have not agreed to refund anyone monies. that this offer was for new customers. and possibly could offset the price in the future bc they drew more people in. I told him there are a lot of upset existing customers so if ur upset contact them. even though 99$ isn’t a bad price we should be given something.

  40. cathy

I wish new posts would show up 1st on Hip. They are so mixed up and not in order by when they were posted. Sometimes I check in to see whats new and all the posts showing 1st are old and many are expired already. Maybe there is something I can do to change that?

  41. Vanessa

    Is this offer expired?

  42. Karen

Thank You so much for the heads up! I was looking foward to purchase it but the$99 its kinda a bit much no matter if its for a whole yr. I have mobile meter app that I collect points daily and fill a survey once a month, I managed to collect enough to exxhange them for a $50 gift card for Amazon, wich means I only end up putting$17 dollars out of pocket off the original $99! woooohooo feels like an early xmas day!
