I purchased prime during the week and did not know about this offer, so today I emailed them and they credited my account $26 and gave me this price!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh wow – that’s awesome!

    • Heather C.

      Me too! 😀

  2. Katie

So if my current one expires in June can I gift it to myself to use then? Has anyone had any luck with this in the past? Thanks 😊

    • Hunterwoody

I have used another account to gift it to my account.

    • Pattil24

Unfortunately it says on the webpage that this promo can’t be used for gifts.

  3. Lovemuch

Great idea! I’m very curious if gifting it to yourself works out? I’m so bummed out because I became prime on Dec 1 2015 after my 30 day trial and I would’ve totally held off on signing up permanently if I knew that amazing was ever lowing the price for prime.

    • SB

Me too! I signed up for the first time around 30 days or less ago and really wish I would have waited. Really bummed!

    • meredith

I’ve been reading in previous threads that amazon will honor the same price even though it’s been a few weeks. Call and ask, can’t hurt

  4. Elizabeth

My Prime expired today and once it ended I was able to order it for the discounted price! So happy! Thanks for the heads up Collin. I would have let it automatically renew if I hadn’t seen your post the other day:)

    • Chris

      Thanks for sharing!

    • julie

mine expires the Jan 24th. I wonder if I end it now, if I will be able to take advantage of the deal?

      • Ashley

Mine is done on the 24th too… If you end it and try buying it, let me know if it works.

      • Kimberly

Mine also was set to expire on the 24th, which is only a week away. I canceled my membership and then was able to buy it at the $73 price.

    • CA

My prime has been expired for over 2 months. I do not have the discounted price when I put it in my cart. I am glad this worked for you, but it didn’t for me.

      • Elizabeth

The discount doesn’t appear until you checkout.

    • Tracy

How? I added to mi cart and it shows price of $99. My prime expired 4-6 months ago 🙁

      Thanks for any help!!

  5. sexymeg

I see the benefits listed here. But other than 2 day shipping. Is it really worth it. Need people’s opinions please. I don’t really care about the amazon video either

    • Kasi

It’s not always 2 day shipping, even with prime. Depends on the item. Even if it shows prime, I have had things takes up to a week before. It’s nice for the fast/er shipping, prime members only deals, great if you have the fire stick to use with Amazon music…since not interested in video.

      • Katie

I VERY RARELY have had a delay that takes more than two days for Prime delivery. I’ve probably had 400 + separate orders..

        • Mary

I have 568 orders to date and have had several items take 3-4 days. Sometimes in 3-4 days before shipped. I love prime for many prime only deals, s&s, video etc.

      • KT

Also love it to send presents to far flung friends and family…easily saves me $99 in annual shipping charges if I had to mail them all myself. Love the free prime music and videos, too.

      • Loretta

Prime is so worth it even at $99 not only do you get the free 2 day shipping on most items but you get access to free movies and music. With the amount I order it pays for itself in shipping fees if I didn’t have prime within 2 months. Plus I’ve gotten to know my UPS man very well that he’s not afraid of our German shepherd, he’s the only delivery person that will leave our packages at our back door and he’s in a fenced in back yard. Most Fedex guys won’t even come up the driveway, they come back the next day or wait for me to walk to the bottom of the driveway. Amazon prime is the best. 😊

    • Heather

I use my prime several times a WEEK. I catch steal of a deals on subscribe and save items, order all kinds of stuff from amazon with free ship….I do use the videos from time to time and stream via my Wii. Honestly it’s totally worth the investment for this family.

      • Kasi

        S&s is amazing too

    • brooke

I am a huge fan of the music. You can listen to (I have Kindle fire hdx and I can download the music too) just about any music for free. Way better then pandora.
I am frugal and see many benefits from prime. I also used to not buy some deals posted because I didn’t want to spend $30 for Shipping…now I can get mascara foe $3 shipped. Hope this helps.

    • Katie

If you are serious about trying to save money I’d say it’s well worth it. We use it now about 4 times a week! You get early access to lightning deals so I save a ton on that as well.

    • Stephanie

It really depends on what you plan on using it for. It is so worth it for me because I get my diapers and wipes sent to my house on a big discount. Also I never have to worry about hitting a minimum for free shipping so I can grab something that is $5 and have it in 2 days…which is pretty unheard of. If you did a lot christmas shopping with amazon then it would be worth it because you get early access to deals so you dont risk them running out of an item. It really breaks down to $6 a month so to me its totally worth it!

    • Angela

It is absolutely worth it. There are many discounts that are only available to Prime members. I buy practically everything on Amazon now, because it is almost always by far the cheapest option and I can have it at my door in 2 days or less–often the next morning. If you live in a larger metro area, you will often get same-day shipping! And it isn’t just the free 2-day shipping; it’s the huge discount on overnight shipping when you really HAVE to have it faster–that’s been a lifesaver for me on a couple occasions. This year on Christmas Eve EVE, my son accidentally broke part of his favorite game, Tip It, so it could no longer be played. He was totally devastated–sobbing for like an hour, inconsolable. I wanted Santa to bring a new one, but I didn’t want to brave the toy stores right then, and he would have seen me leave and gotten suspicious (the Santa belief is wavering right now). I knew the game was retailing for about $20 and I didn’t want to spend that–my shopping was done. I checked Amazon and found a Ninja Turtle version (even better!) for only $9. Prime members were offered overnight shipping, guaranteed Christmas Eve delivery, for only $4! I grabbed it. Start to finish, that entire “shopping trip” was done in about 3 minutes. It was under the tree on Christmas morning, he thought Santa had “seen” him break the game and had surprised him with something better, and his YEAR was made.

      • sexymeg

Thanks to everyone. And their opinions. We have a baby on they way and I’m sure this will help us not having to run out for diapers. Well give it a try

        • Sara

Make sure you sign up for Amazon Family (free) bc you will also get a bigger discount on wipes and diapers.

          • sexymeg

            Thanks for the tip

          • Nia

How do you sign up for Amazon family? It is not self-explanatory using the Amazon app.

        • Mel

Totally worth it, especially the Amazon Family fir diapers and wipes, etc.

      • Emily

        That’s awesome!!

      • JA

Aww, love your story. Glad Santa pulled through for your son!😉

    • Amber

We use the Amazon music app daily which is associated with your
Prime account. So if you pay for things like pandora or spotify it may be worth it to check it out.

      • Angela

My son said, “How did he know?!?!” 😉 I said, “I told you Santa is magic–he knows everything!”

  6. Chris

It says on the gift page: Promotion does not apply to the gift of Prime.

  7. Sarakate25

Should I sign up for Amazon family since I have a few friends with babies due. Does
It cost more for me to do that? I always buy diapers bc that was my favorite gift:)

    • Kathy

It’s free and you can score awesome diaper deals!

      • sarah

        super thx!!!

  8. Anna

Fyi. If amazon is late on the 2 days shipping they will add a month of prime free to your account. I just sent and email to customers service didn’t even have to talk to anyone

    • Kasi

Good to know. As they are late many times with mine. Also, depends on who I’m sending too.

  9. Jamie

I love Prime because you can get it shipped anywhere in the country. I ship birthday and Christmas gifts with Prime. You can even pay to have the item wrapped. Even if you pay for the wrapping it’s cheaper than shipping and it is completely done.

  10. Emily

Best money I spend every year!!! I love my dogs food even being shipped free and it’s cheaper than store!

  11. Jenna

If you send a message most CSRs will give you a $26 account credit. If you cancel and get a new acct you can no longer share w 4 family members, it’s only 1 share now.

  12. Mandy

Does anyone know how the movie and TV shows compare to what’s available on Netflix? Hate to pay for both Netflix doesn’t offer much more.

    • Angela

Some things are the same but some are different. Wish I could give you more info but that’s just how it is. We have both and we use both. We would have Prime anyway for the shipping and the photo storage, so I figure for $9/month (for two TVs) the Netflix is worth it. If I had to pick only one for watching, I’d pick Netflix because it definitely has more newer/current stuff, but Prime has a lot also. And with Prime you can rack up those no-rush shipping credits and use them to rent movies that aren’t free with Prime.

    • julie

We have both and nobody ever watches amazon. I feel like there isn’t much on netflix but my teens prefer it.

    • Emily

We don’t have netflix and only stream Amazon. Because of that, my nieces and nephews don’t mind that they can’t find their favorite show or something on Amazon when they visit. There’s plenty that they haven’t seen on Amazon and we enjoy it.

  13. Natasha

The no rush shipping option… is that every time? I have a Kindle and it seems like a great way to stack up some $1 credits towards books and comics 🙂

    • CO Mama

Yep! Sometimes they will switch to prime pantry for a couple days but always end up going back to the one dollar books/music/movie credit. It’s awesome!

    • A

Just be careful. Sometimes the credit is only good for videos and music, not ebooks.

  14. holjol

    Yay!!! Thanks so excited!

  15. Susan Crawford

My prime was due for renewal this weekend. AMaxon renewed it at the regular price. No big deal, so I contacted Amazon customer service and they gave me the the $73.00 price. It never hurts to ask.

  16. CO Mama

Best money spent. Amen! No sooner do I put something on my list, I can order it on prime & it’s at my door before I could’ve even gotten to the store to buy what I needed! If you haven’t tried Amazon music and you’re a frequent user of Pandora/Spotify you really should, such a great selection and no commercials!

  17. Workaholic

I hardly used my amazon prime last year so this year I chose not to renew it. I only purchase electronics and most of them are over $35, so free shipping. The 2 day shipping is nice, but honestly, most of them were 3-4 days. I never used the streaming system because I pay for Sirius on my car and Google play on my phone. The video streaming lacks children’s shows, so my daughter watches Netflix, which I’ve had for free because I bought a note 4.
What holds me back from Amazon impulse buys is that if I want to return, I have to pay shipping. I’d rather purchase something in a store in case it doesn’t work for me. Whenever I see a good deal on amazon I take forever to decide if I really want or need it. In the end, I talk myself out. That’s why I decided to pass on this great deal. Thanks for posting Collin, I’m sure alot of other hip savers will take advantage of this.

    • Mel

I’ve returned several things and never paid shipping.

    • Angela

You dont have to pay for shipping to return an item to Amazon. I have returned a few things and never had to. You just print out a return label from the order info under your account. They even refund you the money when you print out the label. They dont wait until they receive it.

    • Angela

I will echo that you do NOT have to pay return shipping. Also, on the only occasion in which I wanted to return because an item arrived in less than perfect condition, Amazon didn’t even have me return it–they just immediately refunded and allowed me to keep the item as an extra (which was great, because it was still usable).

      • Workaholic

Well you all must be lucky because every time I call or try to return on the website they charge me shipping. I might as well keep because I don’t want to pay $6-9 for shipping. I’m just speaking from my personal experience. I’ve shopped with Amazon for a whole lot of years and I’ve always gotten the same answer unless the product was damaged /faulty.

        • Kalynn

It just depends on the item. I have returned some items for free. Other items, even though the are still sold by Amazon, cost $. I just ordered a Rubbemaid set and when I got it, realized there were way more small containers than I wanted. I hope I lien to fill out the stuff to return it, and they were going to charge either $8 to drop it off, or $14 for a pick up. No way. I’m keeping them for that price!

  18. Michelle W

Who can you share with as a family member? Someone in a different state???

    • MelMandy

My mom shares her Prime with me and she lives in a different state than I do. If I remember correctly she had to have my email address that is linked to my Amazon account and was able to add me to the Prime account.

    • Mel

It’s for shipping only. None of the other benefits.

  19. April

Has anyone had any experiences, good or bad, with the Amazon Visa Card? It gives an $80 credit, which would make the prime membership basically free for one year, especially with the discounted membership. Also, thanks for the heads up about the membership sale!

    • samantha

Love it! Rewards add up quickly!!!

    • A

FYI I got this card because of the gift card offer, with no intentions of using it. I accidentally used it (it was automatically set as my default) for a $5 purchase (sold and shipped by Amazon). No big deal, paid it off and removed it from my default payment. 3 months later I get a bill for $300 something from a company in Brazil. My credit card info had been stolen. Soooooo since I only used it on Amazon, either there is a breach at Amazon or at Chase credit cards. It was a mess to clear up (person who stole my identity somehow managed to change my security question answers). I ended up canceling my card with them.

      • Karen

Chase has had a number of breaches that affected lots of people, not just Amazon card holders

  20. Kalynn

Anyone have any good ideas for not allowing your basement to become a cardboard box factory from all of the prime boxes? I try and break them down when I get them, but I don’t always have time, so eventually one or two get tossed aside as is, and before I know it, there is a gigantic pile of boxes. Then it takes forever to break them all down. I’m sure there’s no magical solution, but I wish some stuff came in bags!

    • Jenna

My garage is the cardboard box factory. Every month I take a box cutter, cut them all down, and then drop them at the local recycling place.

    • P

I throw the boxes in our garage. Then when hubby gets home they magically disappear 😉

    • April

You could list them on craigslist or to give to a friend who might be moving. Lots of people need boxes – although the small ones might not be as useful I suppose. I just feel bad sending a perfectly good box to recycling sometimes. Better that than the trash though!

  21. Katie

I’ve seen it mentioned a couple times, his do you share a membership?

  22. Sarakate25

I did it so excited 🙂 thx for sharing. Wonder if I can return a gift I didn’t use now????

  23. Stephanie Markus Predovich

I have a question……I just signed up on Hubby’s account for Prime and added my account to his family share…will this allow me to get Prime Shipping from my account?

  24. Carol

Ours expires Jan 24th from last years deal…did anyone try ending their membership and try to buy a new one at the $73? If so, can you please let us know if it works? Any help is very appreciated!

    • Sandy

Mine too. This was my reply from Amazon:
Carlos: this is what we are going to do. We will let the prime membership to renew at $99 on Jan 26th. Once it has been renewed, Ill receive a remainder and Ill proceed to request a refund for the membership of $26. Ill set a follow up on your account and Ill make sure to issue the refund for you.

So just chat with them until you find a rep who will do same. As per Slickdeals not many people getting turned away!

  25. Stephanie Markus Predovich

My Prime expires on the 27th and I “chatted” with a person who said I could try to cancel and then renew. It wouldn’t let me cancel my current Prime. So nothing else I could do….BUT I did sign up Hubby’s account with the special Prime and now just want to make sure that I added my account that it will link his Prime to mine after mine expires.

  26. Dani

My Prime membership expires on the 24th. The app would not allow me to cancel today. It advised it would expire and not renew on the 24th. So I called customer service and advised them I wanted it canceled, effective today. It took the customer service rep several minutes, but she did it without even asking why. I then logged out and logged back in. I then added the membership at $99. It did not discount the $26 until the last screen where you confirm your order. I LOVE AMAZON.

    • Carol

Thank you! I’ll have to give that a try!

      • Carol

        It worked, thank you!

    • Steph

My rep never offered to cancel it for me. Oh hubby got the price and it’s all good.

  27. Martha Cook

I just found out about the prime $26 off from the regular price of $99. Is there anyway that I can still take advantage of the discounted-reduced price membership of 73/YR?
