Is this valid for existing members or only new members? My membership will expire in July, wondering if I can take advantage of this offer and extend membership by another year ?

    • Laurel

I am wondering that too. I don’t see anything in the fine print that says only new members but it was pretty small fine print.

    • Catie

I had an offer to renew my membership for the $20 giftcard back in November. Didn’t get the other perks but the giftcard was good for me! They emailed me about it so not sure if it is only for select members to renew or for everyone.

Sams Club keep asking if I want to upgrade for $50 (I think) plus I will get a $30 gift card. The clerk says I can go a whole year and then decide I don’t want it and they will refund me the $50 and I can keep the $30 gift card free.
    Anyone have experience with this?

    • ihearthip

I did that at Costco for just one day then went back and downgraded. It went fine and I kept the other gc no prob

You might want to give it a try since you have nothing to lose. I would not pay for the plus membership because I thought it would not benefit me with my spending habits at Sam’s. I gave in last year and tried it. When it came time for renewal I had more money in rewards than the membership renewal cost so they actually paid me to shop there last year.

      • dblD-amber

Yes I did the same. Upgraded and for a while wasn’t going there too often so I downgraded and got my money back.

Make sure you check the details on the free items, we were told the free items would be saved to our card so I saved our cupcakes for my sons birthday only to find out the coupons were only for about 2 weeks after signing up. We did the deal from Zulily this last summer.

    • Kristie

      The cupcakes freeze well.

Was wondering if anyone could give some feedback on whether a membership is worth it? $savings wise…I’ve never been to Sams. I do have a large family…8. I live in a small town in Louisiana so we don’t have the best grocery deals at our local Walmart or local stores. No big chain grocery stores. Nearest Sams is 30 miles but the drive is not an issue. Our closest target (non-super) and mall is the same distance. Just don’t know how their pricing compares to regular Walmart stores.

I bought a membership for my daughter that only has a Sam’s club (no Costco) in the city she is in. We did the deal with the plus membership. Being able to go in at 7am makes all the difference for me. I have found that they do offer enough savings to make it worth it. She buys mostly fresh fruit and vegetables and there is a savings compared to shopping at the local grocery store. The Costco and Sam’s club that are in the city I’m in are right around the block from each other and I do go to both. They carry a lot of the same stuff and then each has things that I can only get at one or the other. I would say do the deal, take advantage of the freebies and see how you like it.

I have a large family also and Sam’s Club is the first place i shop every month. They have specials monthly and there prices are really reasonable, if you need to buy in bulk. And extra plus for my kids, they have free sample on Saturdays.

I prefer BJs over Sam’s Club because they allow you to use store coupons and manufacturer coupons, sometimes multiple manufacturer coupons. If I didn’t have access to them though I would use Sams. I find their prices on general items to be inline with the Walmart stores (ie cheaper than Target) and they always have a ton in stock.

      Hi Yvonne,

I actually just took advantage of a similar deal at Costco. I have been a loyal Sam’s member for 15 years but several things contributed to my decision to transfer. First, the customer service has declined at all three local clubs and the cashiers border on harassment in trying to get you to upgrade your membership (whether its a good deal or not- when I say no, that is my answer). I realize we buy these memberships for deals and maybe not service but I actually dread going in my club. That said, there were some items I could consistently get at prices with substantial enough savings to keep me coming back. Unfortunately, the clubs in my area have been changing the items that they stock and have phased out almost everything I used to prefer buying at Sams. The gas prices are pretty good although no better than using my gas rewards from local grocers.

Of course, those are all personal opinions. My recommendation to decide what is best for you and your family is to visit their website and search products you use and would consider purchasing at the club. If you select the club closest to you, it tells you if the product can be purchased at that location and at what price. Hopefully that would help you make the decision that is best for you!

Kp, excellent review!! You are right on the money. Do your homework and figure out what works best for YOUR family.

Yvonne, I have large family too, and we find it definitely worth it. Meats, cheeses, frozen items, dairy, laundry detergents, cleaners, paper items, some pantry items and some health & beauty items are MUCH cheaper than the grocery stores around us. We also live in a small town without many choices, but I drive to Sam’s (1 hour away) once a month to stock up. Boneless chicken breast is always $1.79 to $1.99 a pound, pork loin $1.79 a pound, ground beef 90% lean around $3 a pound. Lots of your core groceries are priced low every day. I had heard so much hype about Costco that I tried it, but went back to Sam’s.

    • Jenna

Their produce isn’t the cheapest, but it stays fresh way longer than anything I’ve bought at other stores. Their meat is EXCELLENT. We have purchased a couple of furniture items there and the quality is great. I also like their paper towels.

All of that being said, I didn’t feel like I was getting good enough deals to get my moneys worth. I still shop there, but just go with relatives when they are shopping rather than having my own membership.

    • Jamie

I bought a membership because I also have a large family (6) and I get my meats there which you get more for better prices then Walmart and my local stores. Also great to buy in bulk. Let’s just say I only need to go once a month for my meats and goodies. Plus you get coupons, and only pay to renew once a year. But that’s my opinion, hope that helps.

  5. Ni

The only things I buy are the gas, milk and baked pizzas in the deli. For us, the savings in gas alone more than pays for the membership of $25 ($45 -$20).

  6. loving it

Thank you!!!! I got this offer… loving it.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome! Glad you could grab it!

  7. Adriana

Living social is offering a $55 Costco membership right now

  8. phyllis

Can’t get the website to come up. Anyone else having this problem?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am still finding the link to work as I click through. Are you able to try it in a different browser? Hope that helps!

  9. Sheree

Does Sam’s carry a lot of organic produce? Costco has lots of organic products and I haven’t been to Sam’s in years but am thinking about having memberships to both stores.

I am currently a Sams Member. If anyone is looking to sign up for a Membership, you can get an additional $10.00 gift card by using my link and I will get $10.00 too! This makes for a really awesome deal! The rotisserie chickens and ‘Skinny Pop’ popcorn makes it worth the membership alone! 🙂

So is this good for recent members or only new
