Something went DOWN? Wait…. I’m confused…LOL
I am too!!
Right?!?! Lol
Now I’m annoyed that I bought an entire roll last month!
Yes! So is my husbands 90yr old gma! And my brother in law is a mail carrier and he didn’t even give us the heads up!!!
Yes after we all buy tons of stamps for the vs promo. Now it goes down! I remember when it used to be .29 cents I think it was. But that’s awesome they decreased it.
Congress allowed the post office a 3 cent price hike in 2014 as a way to get out of debt. The hike was only good for 2 years. So the decrease is a roll back of that hike (they can keep 1 cent of it in place by law). The post office lost over $5 billion last year and this will result in even bigger loses. Hopefully this kills the USPS and finally allows for private companies to take over.
<3
you do realize ups and fedex use the post office to ship
Hope you will like paying A LOT more for sending something if they get rid of USPS!
competition lowers rates, not increases them . . . more options = lower rates by carriers
also, we live in a very rural area and FEDEX is TERRIBLE …. sometimes you get your packages scanned delivered but they show up two days later, sometimes they don’t even bother with the facade and just deliver two days late, sometimes you get to take your neighbors packages to them because they brought stuff to the wrong house because the road names were similar
Our mail service is awful and hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. Our new mail carrier doesn’t put our mail through our slot. She simply throws it on the ground. We’ve had to call the post office several times to complain. (I’m angry only because it happened again today and last Saturday!)
Aaaaaaaargh! 🙁
I feel for you!! Our mail lady is horrible!!! She drives through our lawn everyday and puts giant ruts in our lawn! I’ve called the post office several times and they just say they’ll talk to her. Yet, she continues to do it! Very frustrating!!
Our mail lady is even worse, she stuffed an over size package in our mail box and broke the door. No wonder usps is losing so much money
My mail lady did the exact same thing! She never brings it to the door she just shoves packages in there even if they don’t fit. The door is now broken and so is the red flag. Maybe they tell them to do that to save time? One day last week when it was a windy day she shoved a package in there and then the letters wouldn’t fit and I found my letters (including a check!) flying around my lawn! So glad I was out there to catch the letters.
Our mail lady is amazing. She had a convo with my 3 year old daughter about Shopkins once last fall and now EVERY DAY she leaves one (of her granddaughter’s duplicates) in our mailbox. My daughter looks forward to get the mail every day. She is the sweetest lady and takes good care of our mail, too!
That’s amazing! When I lived in town, we had an amazing mailman. I would leave him a gift card for every holiday! But now that I live in a very rural area, my mail lady is not the best. I’ve tried talking to her and I’ve tried calling our post office. But I guess there are good ones, and there are bad ones. But I think it’s too cute that your mail lady does that!!! 😀
I dont even know my mailman lol!
Ok folks, here we are getting a decrease and your complaining!!! Does anyone have anything positive to comment on??? My husband is an awesome thoughtful hard working city mail carrier. If you postal carrier is not doing his/her job, please call your local post master!! Don’t complain and cause drama. It offends others. Be happy about the decrease in prices!! Thank you!!!!!
People can complain all they want. I have a community mail box and let me tell you my neighbors get my mail often. Its not right I have two notes in the boxes to warn the drivers that I am not getting my mail. I still have problems my husbands pay check went to someone else. Personal info comes through the mail and it should be handled with better care. In fact just today I got someone elses mail in my box again. I also have called them multiple times and guess what it did NO good.
I’m super lucky because I have an awesome mail carrier. He is very careful with everything so I always try to give him a little something (candy or a small gift card) at each holiday to show my appreciation. Too bad all the mail folks don’t care like he does. I dread the day the postal service changes his route or he retires.
My mail carrier is awesome! He’s the type that will stop and have a conversation if we are out working in the yard when he comes by. He is thoughtful with our packages and isn’t phased when my dogs bark at him every day!! Reading others comments, I appreciate him even more now!
I think usps is awesome!
I also found out that first class mail maximum weight has increased from 13 oz to 16 OUNCES! Yay!!!
That’s good to know thanks!
This happened awhile ago.
I am thankful someone is willing to carry my mail across all those miles even for 49 cents😊
I was thinking the same thing! To be able to send a letter across the country for under .50 is a phenomenal deal! 🙂
I ship literally thousands of packages a year with my side business. USPS is far cheaper than FedEx and UPS for anyone who doesn’t have a contract with the private sector. I find that less than 3% of my packages have an issue. The majority of the time issues are the fault of the consumer- using improper packages or addresses.
USPS are terrible for anything other than the average letter. The overnight I pay for takes 3 days sometimes 2 if I’m lucky. Never get anything I need to sign for. Paying a little less for a letter is good.
Walmart sucks.
While I’m super grateful to see a decrease, I also would like to see better service from the usps. Packages have been destroyed by jamming them in the boxes, rutts in the yard, I get the neighbors mail all the time and boxes are usually left sitting by my porch steps in the rain. I’ve contacted the proper people and get the we’ll talk to them and the we are under staffed and have too many pieces of mail to reliever them all in a work day. Wish they all cared as much as the few good ones that were mentioned. Sadly most dont seem to care.
Always complaints. As the saying goes walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. Sometimes a simple “thank you” makes a world of difference not just to the mail person either. This world is full of me, me, now, now without a second thought. Be glad we don’t live in the days of the pony express geeze.
our mail lady was always cranky and difficult until she accidentally hit our truck one day (it was parked in the driveway and she backed into it accidentally)… she was so upset, she knocked on our door so worried, and when we told her it wasn’t a big deal and not to worry that we weren’t going to tell the postmaster, she was a totally different person
after that, our mail delivery was awesome, and she finally waved back to us after 3 years of ignoring us when we waived to her
The person who said that USPS goes out of business is crazy…some services should be govt run…dont think that privatization will always bring competition.Sometimes these private companies merge and we get a monopoly.Look at Comcast. Thank God congress didn’t approve the time warner merger. And USPS is still awesome for the cost.If you want to pay more then Fedex and UPS is still an option.
I definitely do not want USPS to go out of business. Why don’t they get rid of Saturday delivery?
We have had a lot of problems with USPS, as I see many others have. I am thankful for the affordable rates they offer. And we have some amazing men at the closest office, super friendly and knowledgeable. Our mailman, on the other hand, we’ve had problems with. After he literally bent a hardback children’s book we ordered my son to fit it in the mailbox, I called to complain. Didn’t make a difference, has since bent a calendar and another softback children’s book.
My mail lady does that too. I ordered school pictures after so they were sent to my house. They came in an envelope that said in big bold letters, do not bend and they were still bent in my mail box. Now my sons first school picture has a crease on his face.
Should folks blame the entire USPS for some of the bad seeds that work there? If so start blaming the bad seed checkout clerks, politicians, waitresses, office workers, supervisors, etc etc etc. It’s not always the company’s fault – it’s the poor attitude and work ethic that many people have these days. So sad to see that so many don’t have pride in a job well done anymore. And many others fail to see the personal sacrifice of so many that do a great job. Like our mailman who goes above and beyond in rain, snow, sleet, and heat – and still has a smile on his face. We make sure we tell him how much we appreciate him on a regular basis!
We had a awesome mailman that would hand deliver the mail to me when I was pregnant with my first child. He was a sweet older gentleman. My husband jokes that my son is the mail mans. It is true there are great people and than not so great. One mailman almost ran over my husbands foot when he was giving him mail that didn’t belong to us.
The USPS is making money. Dont let them fool you. But, on paper it says they are in the red because of the requirement to prefund something like 5 billion a year into the retirement plan. But, the reason alot of the carriers are so bad is because the post office is moving towards a non-career workforce. Lowering wages and hiring just about anyone all while trying to force the old timers out. Not to mention how bad work ethic is these days amidst the young kids. If the post office gets privatized, the service will decrease even more.
I also remember when stamps were $.29…lol..those were the days…eggs were 69 cent a dozen, gas was 99 cent a gallon, and milk was about $1.59 a gallon.
