Walmart: No More Price Matching At 500 Stores (Starting June 9th)

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

walmart_Store_frontAttention Walmart shoppers! Effective June 9th or possibly sooner in some areas, Walmart will be ending their Price Matching Program at over 500 stores and instead will be implementing long-term price rollbacks on thousands of items. For more information, check out this article published by Business Insider.

Walmart Savings CatcherWalmart is hoping more customers will now be encouraged to use the Savings Catcher App, a tool that scans your Walmart receipts and compares the prices you paid at Walmart to the prices advertised for the same items elsewhere in your area. If the app finds a lower advertised price, Walmart will issue a gift card in the amount of the difference.

Thoughts on this policy change? Do you think the rollbacks will make up for the end of price matching?

I used to shop at walmart all of the time. I price-matched, and thought i was getting the best price on my other items. I realized that while I was saving money I was adding undue stress. I would always get anxious about taking extra time in the line. The cashiers were hit or miss. Some were overly helpful and would price match no problems. Others would make up policies, deny certain ads, and even deny certain coupons. We have a program through Vitality (a health thing through work) and you get 10% off of healthy foods. I hated swiping this card because no one knew how to use it. Everyone would say it’s an invalid gift card (which its not) and 90% of the time the computer wouldn’t take it. Finally I said forget it. It’s just not worth it. I would rather pay a few dollars extra and just go to the stores with the sales. I can’t even handle going in that store anymore. Between the small isles, the over crowding, the horrible check out experiences, and the stress associated with getting out of that store my anxiety just wont let me go in there anymore. I do the majority of my shopping at Aldi and our small local grocery store, and am actively emailing our health program to try to get them to switch to other store options. I buy anything else, non-grocery from Amazon. This includes a lot of our paper products. It just makes more sense for me. I tried to order products from Walmart online, and had the biggest hassle. The item never arrived, and because it was seasonal they refused to refund it. Customer service lines were a nightmare. Basically, I’m done with Walmart. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they went out of business.

The super-pro scammer Ad Matchers never have a problem with holding up the line. In fact; they count on the line getting really long so that the cashier will get flustered. They want the cashier to get flustered so that she/he will start chopping down prices. The customer will say, “These Tyson frozen BBQ boneless chicken drummies are $2.29 cents at the B & H Grocery downtown”. Even if the clerk doesn’t have an ad for this small family-owned downtown grocery; she’ll just take the customer’s word for it and mark that big bag of Tyson BBQ boneless chicken drummies down from $8.97 down to $2.29 just to make the customer happy and to keep the line moving!!!! The customer may have an ad on their phone that shows a small carton of Tyson frozen BBQ drumsticks and wings that have bones in them. The packaging is similar but it’s a very much a different product. They want the party size bag of Tyson BBQ boneless chicken drummies that are all meat and they’re very expensive!!! Can we say, “We’re having a big party and we want Walmart to pay for it?? These scammer Ad Matchers will also want to “ad match” the big rib pork back ribs that are generic at Kroeger. They’ll come to Walmart and want the Smithfield Baby Back Ribs for the same cheap price as those big boned generic pork ribs that are nothing but grizzle and bone. They will pitch a big fit if the cashier doesn’t mark the Smithfield baby back ribs down by at least half price in order to “ad match” those cheap big boned pork ribs from Kroeger. We’re having a party and we want Walmart to pay for it!!!

My wife and myself both worked at walmarts in three states in our 38 combined years of service. These customers are not the normal but the few..out of thousands of customers most are kind, regular people who shop every week with Walmart. Using coupons is a customers right and again before all the negative comments, can everyone look in the mirror and decide if that one customer you are standing behind is going to ruin your day or you are going to be positive in your attitude..the world we live in needs more positive people that can get along and help each other instead of being hurtful..everyone will eventually answer for all they have done…

        • Joanna Yarbrough

Dan I’m with you.. I love the price matching, it kept me from going to 5 different stores..I do coupon, I have to!! I have 2 children. I hate to hold up a line at the stores for my coupons but I look at it like this.. if someone wants to complain because they are having to wait and have bad attitude, they need to PRAY!! They must have a miserable life.. Just grow up and act like your suppose to, treat people with respect and love everyone, help each other… heck I give people coupons in the store that are shopping to help someone out..

  2. Krissy

Hoping my store isn’t on the list! (Although I’m sure it will hit nationwide eventually.) Most of my experiences with pricematching have been incredibly smooth, and I usually pricematch at least once a week. The Savings Catcher app has never been useful for me because I’d rather pay less upfront rather than wait for a giftcard. Not to mention it doesn’t catch the small stores or any produce of the sort. It’s not like Walmart has their own coupons or offers. If they end pricematching, I’d rather travel twice the distance and go to more stores to get better prices. Not paying $3.48 for raspberries when Meijer/Kroger constantly put them on sale for $1, which Walmart never does.

Wal-Mart Is nothing but a bunch of greeting money hungry people

    • Patricia Lavenz-Goff

I agree with you. I actually had a clerk run away from me when I tried to ask him where an item was located in the store. I had a cashier tell me that couponers were the reason that groceries were so high and it wasn’t fair that couponers could get items for less money. I didn’t know that couponers were in a secret society that only allowed certain people into the group. LOL

      • Jayla Gregg

The clerk was probably running away because they were on the way to the restroom or they were in the process of helping another customer.

  4. Angela

    Where is the list?

  5. dre222

I’ve had Savings Catcher funds disappear for no reason and have repeatedly contacted Walmart to resolve it, but they just stopped responding after supposedly escalating the claim. Almost $50 in SC earnings disappeared, but show as redeemed to a gift card. The gift card shown is in my account, but never showed any history of the funds making it there. I did some research to see if this had happened to anyone else and uncovered a HUGE number of people who had the same or similar issues. The other big issue I found was people who used Savings Catcher had their walmart.com accounts hacked and had to change their password. The day after I read about that, I too had to change my Walmart password because Walmart “detected possible suspicious activity with my walmart.com account”. I check my account and saw nothing suspicious (maybe I was lucky). After my experience, and the other experiences I read on Walmart’s Facebook page and other sites, I would recommend caution using Savings Catcher, and transfer what you earn immediately to your gift card before someone else hacks your account and steals it (or Walmart does). Not knocking the idea of the program, or trying to bash the store, just providing this info to save others the headaches I experienced with it.

    • Angela D Buttram

Savings catcher doesn’t take into consideration the price after BOGO + coupons at other stores. It’s a waste of time in my opinion.

  6. Jade Hill

They want people to start using the Savings Catcher App, the problem with that not all people own smart phones!

    • holly

I agree with this. Or at least most people have smart phones BUT it doesn’t accommodate IOS and Android (ie: ME, to save money I opted for a Windows phone).

    • mel

You don’t need the app. I helped my mom set up her acct on her laptop and all she does is enter the info from the bottom of the receipt. I have the app on my phone, and TBH, most of the time I have to type in the numbers b/c it can’t read the crazy dot box.

      • Glenn

I have a smartphone, but have never installed the Walmart App. I use the Savings Catcher website with all my trips, and haven’t run into any problems. That said, I don’t shop at Walmart all that regularly – usually just once or twice a month. I find using Savings Catcher is less reliable than price-matching, but also a LOT less stressful and time-consuming.

    • Jayla Gregg

Out in rural areas of Alabama and Mississippi, the Internet is very unreliable. Many people are quite elderly and have never used a Smart Phone. There is no way they are going to want to sign up for Savings Catcher. These older women who shop at Walmart and dutifully bring their ads; they are going to be really mad. How long as Ad Match been in effect? Five-ten years???? It must have been in effect at least five years, I would suppose.

  7. Workaholic

This is the worst thing ever. The only time I shop at Walmart is during the holiday season. I want the best deal. I guess I’ll shop less or return more.

    • Amy

If this is the “worst thing ever” than you leave a pretty charmed life. I would count my other blessings and move on.

  8. Anna Marie

I try not to buy anything from Walmart! The WORST store you can buy from!!! They must train their workers to be mean!!!! It’s not worth it to shop at Walmart!!!

  9. v

Will they still price match to their own Walmart dot com prices? …allowing a lower price instore for items selling for lower prices on their website?

    Thanks

    • felicia

no, I’ve tried that before. They won’t match their own online prices! Weird.

      • Nora

Felicia you are wrong! I always ask for a CSM to help me, but they almost always DO price match from Walmart.com.

    • Tee

Nora is correct. Did this myself 2 days ago. 🙂

  10. M

I use savings catcher all the time and I usually get back $.50. When I price matched yesterday, I saved $22! I will shop at the other stores. Savings Catcher misses items 99.999% of the time.

    • NolaGirl

I agree; Savings Catcher DOES miss items 99.999% of the time! In New Orleans, even the large grocery stores are local or regional. Savings Catcher NEVER shows savings for stores like Rouses, Breaux Mart, or Robért’s.

The only reason I go to Walmart is price matching. If it’s gone, so am I. Shopping locally owned retailers has more positive economic impact than shopping big box retailers.

      • Jayla Gregg

I did not know that Savings Catcher misses the Rouses discounts for Savings Catcher. This is definitely going to make people really mad.

    • B Vickery

Totally agree. I don’t understand on the app why one day there are 129 stores compared to and the next it’s 18 when I went to the same Wal-Mart. Its ridiculous.

  11. Keri

This is so disappointing. I price match at Walmart almost weekly. While Savings Catcher is great, it does not allow for produce price matching, so this new policy will basically demolish price adjustments for healthy food and limit discounts to packaged crap. I am so disappointed in this! Price matching is the main reason I continue to shop at Walmart. Looks like I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

  12. rl

Now I will only use their grocery pick up service. No reason to waste my time and get out of the car. They just lost a ton of my business.

  13. Jodi

I just hope other stores do not take notice and end their price matching. Target, Kmart, Best Buy, Kohls and Meijer all price match in my area. I am just afraid if Walmart does away with it other stores will follow suit. I don’t have Amazon Prime but if i can just price match in the stores i don’t have to pay shipping or meet a $50 threshold.

  14. Las Vegas Limo

And I’ll continue to shop there less. The savings catcher app is a sham. It hardly works and most stores suddenly don’t qualify or are excluded or too many products are excluded, unlike just printing /bringing /showing your phone and the price of the items at a competitor. Most of shipping switched back to Kroger when the Walmart tried to stop being 24 hours anyway

  15. Stuck

This is a horrible policy! I rely on price matching to get the best deal on my groceries. Wal-Mart has forced out all the other grocery stores in my small town – I price match to surrounding towns small grocery store – which are not picked up by the savings catcher app.

  16. Kcmiami88

I’m not interested in price matching for gift cards to use at their store, I would rather have cash in my pocket. But over the years, especially with the help of hip2save, I have realized Walmart really usually is not the place to go to get the best price!! I save soooooo much more money shopping around, especially at target!

  17. Margaret Nutter

It is a bad deal for Walmart to quit matching prices – a bad deal for me anyway – I do not own a cell phone so I think I will spend more of my grocery money at Aldi’s.

      • Las Vegas Limo

It’s a ton of extra work without a cell phone. This is just like when they tried to stop my stores from being 24/7 and then turned back on that policy after that started to lose a ton of customers and money and everyone started going to Kroger, winco, etc. The same will happen with this policy. Just plain stupid. I’ll just go to more than one store or elsewhere than to Walmart again

  18. Dan henning

I was a manager at Walmart for 16 years and am retired now and sadly it is an issue at many stores to get coupons through, and ad matching at Walmart is an issue depending on the cashier. I still do it but we shop at many stores. Target for one in our town gives us issues also. Keep in mind these cashiers for the most part are not long term folks and depending on who trains them or who their boss is, brings you how they treat ad matching, coupons, or saver cards..we do Walgreens a lot and they have issues also..so..smiles help and be kind to the associates. 45 years later, from retail, I enjoy my retirement. Dan

  19. Susan L.

I agree with ever y’all are saying, but I just want to point out that maybe you should also say this to Walmart. I encourage you to get on their website and let them know how you feel! I also encourage you to shop local as much as you can.

  20. Sherry Cassady

I price match a lot, now will just go to the stores with best prices, most are
    close enough to me…………..

  21. Patricia Lavenz-Goff

I am not much of a walmart shopper but I will enter my brothers receipts for saving catcher just in case they get some money back. They are both disabled and every penny counts.

  22. Susan

I think it is a good idea. Price-matching would have gone much smoother if all stores (at least within each state) used the same policy. I work at Wal-mart and I know for a fact, cashiers are not all trained the same way. When I first started working there, all cahiers were told the customer had to have the ad to price match. This made a lot of customers mad because some cashiers never told them that. Then the policy changes to “use your own discretion”, etc.and back and forth. Too many people were just making up prices. And the issue cashiers often have is when the customer didn’t have an ad but had a whole cart-full of stuff to match, we were supposed to call a manager and they would bring the ad or look it up on their phone. That lasted a week. So yes, it was a hassle and very time-consuming, even if the caahier was fast. Most customers who use the saving’s catcher app don’t seem to have any problems with it.

  23. Meg

It’s sad most of your WalMart’s aren’t helpful. My Walmart is SO nice and the employees are SO helpful. Target is where it’s a nightmare for me to shop and I try to avoid it. I guess it is just location-by-location that determines if it works for you or not.

  24. JUST SAYING

The savings catcher don’t pick up all the sales. That is why you have to price match the apps searching over 26 stores in fact it’s only 4. I have to put the information in when it’s lower and I don’t get the price difference I might be gone where the deals are

  25. Melanie Lewis

The ad match program was a nightmare for cashiers at the stores located in dense, urban areas with lots of low income families and subsidized housing. There were many people who would come to ad match and “game the system”. They would present an ad for Tide that would say, “$4.99 at Rite Aid Pharmacy. The ad would state, “Plus another $2.00 off with instore coupon”. They would want the Tide to be $2.99 and not $4.99. After they pressured the clerk to match this price on six-eight jugs of Tide, they would present 8 coupons for $2.00 off each jug. The coupons would specify (maximum four coupons per household”. That didn’t bother the customer; she’s going to present eight coupons and she would stand her ground about applying them to her purchase. Very intimidating for a young inexperienced cashier. These women and men were running their own stores out of their apartments and at the flea market where they would resell these products for cash. Ad Match was never supposed to be a method where customers would be able to “game the system” in order to pay 75% less on expensive products like jugs of Tide Detergent.

  26. Jayla Gregg

Ad Match with Walmart turned into a “name your price tool” for aggressive bargain hunters. There are bargain hunters who resell product at the flea market (or in their own homes) and they would “game the system” to get 75% off of expensive products like Tide Detergent. They would find an ad that had a sale price plus the opportunity to use an in-store only coupon. Rite Aid had a program like that; $4.99 sale price for Tide plus an in-store only coupon valued at $2.00 off the $4.99. The customer would bring that ad to Walmart and would insist on receiving the $2.99 price for the Tide based on that combination. After they pressured the cashier to give them the 2.99 price on six, eight, or ten jugs of Tide; they would present ten coupons for an additional $2.00 off each jug of tide. What did they do? Steal a bunch of Sunday papers to get those coupons? The coupons would clearly specify that only four identical coupons PER HOUSEHOLD. That would not bother the customer; they wanted to use all ten coupons! The lines would get so long because the customer would have many other products with the same type of double and triple discount combination. It was very intimidating for the cashier to deal with aggressive “ad match professionals” such as this customer. I am thrilled that this “name your price tool” is coming to an end. If these customers want to barter and trade; they’re going to have to go out to the flea market and haggle with the vendors out there at their vendor booths.

  27. Dan henning

Those customers that use many coupons includes my daughter in law who has to stay home and not work and has two young children. She does not steal coupons she buys extra papers. If these folks cause you discontent then go to another line or another store. General statements that defame everyone that uses coupons is wrong..I have used coupons for years, before they even became a thing..so think before all people are thrown into your negative comments because are many good people that use coupons and ad match and other tools that are available to save money to give their families the extras.

  28. Jaime

I don’t even use it anymore since they no longer use Walgreens and CVS ads. I often want those loss leading items the other stores post plus they don’t match for produce anymore. I may just focus on target/cw and Walgreens for the sale items!

  29. Jayla Gregg

The most savvy of price matchers or those with a background in sales: Amway (Scamway), telesales agents. realtors, and those that do in home sales like Pampered Chef, Tupperware, and Herbalife. You have to be able to be a really strong closer when you are in line with a bunch of impatient shoppers and the clerk is finding that have to pull out their ad book to verify if your phone ad is really what it claims to be. There’s one lady that comes to the big supercenter and she works in medical collections. She’s a real tough cookie and a strong closer. Nothing rattles the lady; it doesn’t matter that she has the buggies lined up at about ten or twelve. She is NOT leaving without getting the best deal she can bargain at that Walmart.

    • Dan henning

Just remember all customers doing coupons are not the same…the line is slower when we use coupons..we try not to shop when it’s busy, we ad match and we are sorry if it frustrates you but we are doing nothing illegal, against store policies, against coupon policies..again having managed in one store fore ten years the cashier still has to look the ad up..it’s the policy..we are allowed to save money just like everyone else..if it’s so bad get out of line, go to another store and let me know what stores , restaurants, do not have lines..keep positive thoughts..

  30. Lenore Day

The day after Collin posted this notice, I had to run to Wal-Mart. Sure enough, the signs were up at all the registers stating price matching at this location would end on June 9th. So Callaway, Florida Wal-Mart is on this list. Anyone else see signs up?

    • Tee

      Lake City Florida
      Live Oak Florida
      Cairo Georgia

  31. redhead81

I was at my walmart yesterday and didn’t see any signs.

I am an avid price matcher, but I’m a little smart about it. I spend about an hour researching the ads online at home and find what I want to buy; put it on a spreadsheet; then write each price match on a post-it note containing the Comp Store/Comp Price/item/description/size/etc/when sale ended. While shopping, I place the notes on whatever items on the belt and most often, the cashiers are relieved. I hate.. hate being behind shoppers who verbally tell the cashiers of the price matching. Um, who’s to say that they’re being truthful?

Some cashiers required an ad, and I didn’t get flustered. I found an app called Flipp. I typed in whatever item they needed visible proof, and bam! The local ad containing the price match. Golden.

Lately though, I got a little lazy and haven’t done any matching, and just did the Savings Catcher.

  32. Julie

I’m really sad this is ending. In the town I live in, savings catcher does not match any of the other local grocery stores. Taking screenshots of the smaller store’s ads has been so helpful and saved me a lot of time from having to shop so many different places. Walmart doesn’t have great prices. They have moderately low prices, but nothing that makes you want to stock up on an item. Walmart will be losing a lot of my business with this policy change, but maybe that’s what they’re counting on and they’re tired of having to match great sale prices 🙂

  33. Jk

As a cashier for Walmart, I never cared for the admatch program. Too many customers coming throuhgh the line with bogus admatches, and arguing with the cashier over the admatch policy, acting like they knew better than the cashier.
Admatch policy requires the cashier to verify the admatch. The admatch had to be exactly what the ad called, product, size, weight, quantity… The ad must be current, printed, or online. It had to be in stock, and could not be clearance, closeout, or going out of business. No bogo ads accepted. No percentage off accepted, either.
The whole policy has been difficult for many cashiers, as well as, customers, because newer cashiers were not fully trained or completely understood how admatching was to be handled, and put at disadvantage, because they are required to verify the admatches, but Walmart doesn’t provide them with the information they need to do so. I, myself, make it practice to bring in most of the most common, local ads on my own. Many shady customers know I do this, and will avoid my line, but will seek out the newer cashiers, in the hope that the newer cashiers will not suspect they’re making up ad prices.
From a cashier’s standpoint, I would not miss it, at all. Life will be less stressful at checkout.

  34. Dan henning

Again as I said cashiers need to be trained correctly and the store is responsible to have the ads when a customer wants it ad matched….my wife and myself go to target and there are opportunities in any stores and it all goes back to training and ultimately with the decision of the management team and that being said store managers can all have a different opinion on any policy so…keep using coupons, stop using coupons, keep shopping at Walmart, don’t shop at Walmart…isn’t it great we have freedoms and choices that we can make..just be kind to all employees especially in retail because they give up lots to work, evenings, nights, holidays, week-ends to help support their families…

    • Pauline

It will only be the stores by brookshires because Wal-Mart is losing to much money at the frist of every month brookshires does a penny sale

  35. Seaira

    😀

  36. Rob

When you consider the extra time you spend in line fighting over 9 cents for a can of tuna, you might as well go where the sales are in my opinion.

Winn Dixie’s new lower prices and BOGOs make them cheaper anyway no matter how many cute commercials Walmart puts on the television.

  37. Stacy

I drive 30 plus miles to shop at Kroger’s once a week and I will continue doing so that I don’t have to deal with the hassle of Wal-Mart. I have been couponing a little over a year and have saved significantly a Kroger’s. When I walk out of Kroger’s with a basket FULL/Over filled (household of 5 with 3 teenagers) and only spent around $100-$140, I get excited. Shopping at Wal-Mart for that much stuff would cost me $300 plus. I would rather put that money towards a vacation or car note than hand it over to a multi billion dollar family. Its also a comfort knowing that the cashiers at Kroger’s even ask if you have coupons and say, “Let’s see how much money we can save you today!” Verses going into Wal-Mart and having to be talked down to because I want to save money. Some cashiers have been nice but they are few and far between. Most act like its coming out of their pockets and hassle me to the point of shoving all my stuff to the side and walking out. Its just added stress that I don’t need. My husband and I both work hard and have good jobs, but I don’t want to feel like I’m working to shop at Wal-Mart. Plus savings catcher is a joke. I used it before thinking it was going save me some bucks…It didn’t price match my produce, or the small town grocery stores we have here. So this is really no big loss to me, just keep going to Kroger’s and saving like always.

  38. Laura

I price match and have for years. As a mother of 3 and always having nieces and nephews (5+) extra in my house it helps. I have gone and shopped without price match and scanned my savings catcher and noticed big problems. I knew that things were on sale locally, scanned my savings catcher and it did NOT match the stores that are NOT MAJOR CHAINS in that region. I have even priced matched shopped and used the app and it still caught things I missed but again ONLY in MAJOR REGIONAL chain stores. If the price matching goes away so will my min $1000 a month in shopping to this company. I will travel to these stores that have things I need on sale and buy. As a former employee of the company I know the hassle of customers that price match. I do know that price matching can make a BIG difference for a lot of people especially those on public assistance that have to make even less money stretch for a month and no transportation. Stopping this is just crazy!!!!!!

  39. Katherine

I definitely won’t be shopping at Walmart as much since they’re discontinuing price matching. Huge fail!

  40. jess

I was a faithful shopper there. I won’t be shopping at Walmart now unless I absolutely have to. Savings Catcher is worthless. It catches nothing. It’s such a joke Walmart is making this change.

  41. Lisa smith

If Walmart stopped the 9th of June the day ain’t over with they refuse to price match 1 thing I don’t give crap about catcher it’s not worth your time to shop some where else.

  42. beth rose

anyone have more details in which areas ?

  43. Michelle Gordon

I gave Walmart a lot of business because of the price match. Now I’ll shop elsewhere. Another reason to shop elsewhere is that Walmart never has everything I go for. They’re awful about stocking.

  44. gwynngeorgia@aol.com

Our Walmart has become very lazy about changing the ink for the register, especially on busy weekends. Because of this I have been unable to get my phone to read the info to scan it in. I am always given the option of keying in the code and date but the ink is so faint I can’t even read the numbers. This seems like a sneaky way of bypassing the savings catcher option in our town.

  45. Mad

Walmart is only shutting down stores around Brookshire’s from price-matching because they have a penny sell every month and Walmart says they are actually losing money so if you live by Brookshire’s then that Walmart will not match prices

  46. Rose

I just saw the signs up in the Fredericksburg VA store that price matching ends August 1, 2016. What a mistake, especially going into the back to school season and the holidays just ahead. Wal-Mart, you really screwed the pooch on this one. I have to go where the best prices are and there are plenty of options in this immediate area.

  47. Philip

I too am a cashier at Walmart and am very happy to see the ad matching going away as a lot of people said it has many times held up lines and people love to make up their own prices and yes it does affect employee bonuses which is part timers rely on to help make ends meet… savings catcher does in fact work I use it and have got back $52 alone this year. I understand it did help a lot of people and I am not against people saving money but if you were to spend just one day working as a Walmart cashier really experienced or new you would see all of the customers who make up their own prices and this in fact raises up prices for everyone else. I had a guy 3 weeks ago wanting 2 “George” dress shirts that were $15.99 for $5.99 each. While I sympathize with all of you I am extremely happy to see this implementation go nationwide.

  48. Linda Moore

Problem with using the Savings Catcher is that they get the money no matter what. Whatever you save you have to spend it at Walmart. So they win both ways. My store has always priced matched until today. I will no longer shop at Walmart for anything. I will give my business to the other stores that appreciate my business.

    • Susan Turpin

I agree Linda Moore. I need cash in hand not savings snatched up by Walmart. about the long lines….why didn’t they try a price match lane only? with a well trained cashier they would have cut any losses. I have started shopping local stores and the service is remarkable, I did not realize how stressed out and downright rude some walmart cashiers are in comparison to the new places I shop. Even if I pay a little more it is worth it to be treated with dignity and kindness.

I was an avid price matcher. I would do my homework before going to Walmart and have everything ready for the cashier. I even kept all the price matching items together to make it easier for the cashier. The prices for groceries continue to keep going up while the packages continue to get smaller. Price matching and couponing, for many people, is the only way they are able to afford to feed their families. It’s not just the stores near Brookshires. As far as the long lines that everyone says price matching causes, Walmart is famous for only having 3-5 of their 20 some registers open for those that have more than 20 items or like the self check out registers. Especially at prime times like right after 5:00pm. They would rather see the check out lines backed up all the way to the merchandise aisles than to open more registers, at least in my area. Obviously Walmart is not the “lowest prices” as they advertise, since they stopped price matching. Also, it would definitely help to adapt their price matching policy on their website to reflect all the changes to alleviate a lot of the confusion. I do believe Walmart will be loosing a great amount of business from this change in their price matching policy, as the savings catcher system is complete joke. I know my business will be going elsewhere, and I generally was there 3-5 times a week. I’m sure they think my measly $350+ a week is not much of a loss. But when you combine all the others that feel the same way, it will become a significant loss, and a major gain for local businesses.
