Thank you Collin. …Wow this is a terrific price for such a huge bag! Sometimes I overlook the order one time option, because the S & S price is so good. This time, I’m glad I read the comments before ordering. Thanks to mom23, I will have them before Christmas, as well! Merry Christmas! 💗

Just curious how many gifts does everyone buy their children for Christmas? How much does everyone spend on gifts? I really struggle with this. My parents did not have a lot of money when I was a kid so I got very practical things with a few surprises. It just seems like people buy 20-30+ gifts per child.

    • Priya

Hi Sue! I wonder this as well. Last year, I got way too many toys for my kiddos. This year, we are starting a tradition of 3 gifts per child…and tell them that baby Jesus got 3 gifts from the three wise men. Plus, we do small stocking stuffers. Hope this helps!

That’s an excellent idea. We got a bit carried away when started having grandkids. Taming it down as there are more and older ones and we’re now on a fixed income. I see why grandkids get money instead of toys, etc. Not as much fun to open, but less stress. I’d like to hear other suggestions from grandparents. I did come up with an idea but can’t post yet since DD follows H2S. 😉

Do what feels right to you. Every family is in a different situation. My kids are so young & last year were most excited about the marshmallows & hot cocoa Santa left them…that’s what they asked for this year.

    • Hilary

Don’t worry about what everyone else does because you’ll get 100 different answers and opinions. You do what works for you and your family and what you can comfortably afford. Start shopping early and budget in advance. Merry Christmas!

    • Tracie

I agree with Hilary. One suggestion I would make is, don’t get them stuff, just to get them stuff, or because you think they should like it. Ask your children what they would like (within reason), and get it for them if possible. You can also do small surprise type presents in their stockings, but again try to do it according to their preferences. I remember as a small child being extremely excited if I got something I asked for. We only got 2 or 3 presents, with stocking stuffers, but it felt like I hit the jackpot, because they were things I enjoyed, or wanted.

I usually start during the summer. I have a big family of 7 siblings ages 24 to 6. Plus now I have 2 babies (a newborn and a toddler) along with 3 close friends, my husband, mother on law, mom, step dad, and step mom. It’s just so fun being the oldest. I usually buy clothes and shoes from sears/kmart and get them cheap/free for half my siblings and my mom. And I usually buy stuff for their own interests. The boys get video games i find on sale around Thanksgiving and everyone except my 24 yr old sister gets books. I usually buy for my husband last and my friends get a gift from the heart I think they will like. They usually just buy something for my son. I ask for something practical like socks or a pair of shoes. My mother in law gets photo gifts of my kids. She like that one person who has everything.

We do something very similar. Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read.

  8. Angelita

    I like that Jamie!

I start buying in January for Christmas. Seems crazy but it helps. We have a family of five on one income. Everything I’ve purchased has been on sale at the best price I could find….I do wait til around Christmas for the hot toys and get them at their best prices. I went way overboard this year because of my H2S addiction lol. However, I just make sure each kid gets equal toys and gifts. I have even found brand new books at my local thrift store for 10 cents each that go under the tree as well. And an adorable Laylaloopsy playhouse with the dolls for 99 cents. I wash them up and they look brand new. I plan on setting the house up under the tree ready to play with. Not everything needs to come in a box brand new. My daughter who is 4 knows no different and will love it just the same.

Ktenny, what great ideas! Merry Christmas 🎄:)

Got it for $4.33 after subscribe and save. Thanks!

    • Alissa

Scratch that! I had an anytime credit so more like $6.02 after S&S.
