I love HGTV & watch the programs daily & this years Dream Home is lovely but does not look as though it meets ADA requirements as I am a senior widow with MS & in wheelchair. I did enter the contest though as this would be a wonderful gathering place for the family & one member could live there permanently.

Am I the only one who thinks this design is horrible? Don’t get me wrong I would be ecstatic to win, but that kitchen is horrible. Dark green backsplash and Christmas green cabinet hardware? Yuck.

This is a really hard sweepstakes to win. Sometimes I wonder if the winners are real because they run this sweepstakes at least once a year if not more. I enter daily for this and their other sweepstakes for some years now and have never won. Some guy that won from a previous year was featured on their show saying he only entered once and won. Some luck.
If a million people enter 2 times per day, and you enter twice per day, you have a one in a million chance. It’s not likely you’ll win, but you don’t lose anything by trying. They do a dream home once per year and a green home once per year (blog cabin is a completely different thing). Sponsors give the material to build wit as a part of the contest, contractors probably donate their time, etc. These are all deductible as a promotional or advertising expense.

I worked for a hotel out on Kiawah Island when they built a dream home there in 2013. I worked in events and we had a luncheon where they presented the winner with keys to the home. It seemed real enough to me but the family that won it appeared to be pretty well off in the first place. The woman talked about how they’d vacationed there for years and now they were thrilled to own a home there.

I love to win this house for my husband so we can move to a new house with the pool, he is a disable veteran he can use that for exercise since he cant barely walk.

Have entered for years. Like other contest (publishers clearing house, etc.). Have found that people in Indiana do not win. Why is that? Guess computers don’t register this state very well. Someone did a study to find this and I believe it. Looked up where winners are most usually found. Guess I should have stayed in the south. Love the south just for the people and the climate anyway.!
I been a Military wife for 24 years and we move every two or three years,and stay in military house all the years. I been a dream for my own house to have and not thinking about to moved.Now my husband retired from military looking for some where to settle down and not to think we are move.Love the south and the people.

In hospital since September due to Lupus & MS. Would love a fresh new begining! I turn 65 on Valentine’s Day. It would be wonderful for my children, grandchildren, & friends who have done so much for me to have a beautiful happy place to make memories. I’ve never won anything before, but I can’t think of anything else worth trying for. What a beautiful place to wake up to each day!! I’ll never know if I don’t try. Right? I love watching HGTV everyday & would love to be able to live out my dreams in something so beautiful with such incredible quality. Laughter, love & beauty heal better than any medicine!

Never ever ever in my 57yrs. Have I witnessed ANYONE I know winning any of these prizes. I am a single grandmother on disability raising a 13yr old granddaughter. I can assure you this much, if I won I would come up with the cash to follow through with this dream!

Yea i know what you mean is this really true.i have been entering every day and i have done the same in the ones in the years pasted and never won a thing have played pch for life and other sweepstakes and never won a thing so do i think this is true not really and for thoes of you that have done the same as me and have never won eather what do you all think. I mean we all see the pch winners on tv. Maybe its just me i must not have any good luck in me i have played the lotto and scratch offs and enter in drawings and never won a thing in all my life so i guess now at my age i guess i should just give up on ever winning anything but it can’t hurt to still have hopes and dreams of winning. But having to go on disability at and early age cause of RA can’t afford to play lotto or scratch offs any more but i still enter the sweepstakes i guess i have been doing it so long its a habbit. We need something good to happen in our lives. It would be a pray answered to be able to be happy again. My husband and I left our family our lives and our dream house that we work our whole life for. to take care of my parents. We moved from a beautiful life at the beach to Texas as soon as we were needed. We both gave up our businesses and left our children and grandchildren. It Was the heart breaking. But my father was very ill and my best friend. I never left his side, I would do it again. He has now been gone for 2years 5 months and my dog 🐶 (Jessie) left us 2 months after. Then my husband got prostate cancer. At the same time of all this I lost my pastors in a terrible accident. They were our friends, Counclor,and very very important people in our lives. Then we found out that someone very close to me (which it’s not my place to give out such personal information) , has a life threatening disease. We have been struggling with so much pain that it is taking a tole on us. But this struggle couldn’t stop there. At Christmas (2 months ago)my husband lost his mother. It was a big shock. Our hearts can’t take anymore. We have been separated from our children and grandchildren for so long, because we live in different states. This house could bring us all together and happiness for my husband an I once again. Something to look forward to. A new beginning. It’s 3 in the morning here and once again I can’t sleep. My mined just can’t rest. It would be wonderful to go to sleep again with the sound of water. And wake up to the beautiful view with my husband being able to fish again.

I have played before when the houses were near water. Not twice a day every day though. Remodeled older home on an island has long been a dream for me. I love older houses and love water. I would love to be able to look at what I call Earth’s soul everyday. Unfortunately I am realistic and know I couldn’t take it, but the money option would help me retire earlier than I will now. I would love to win this! But chances are I probubly won’t! My girls dream was for me to be happy and I’m trying as a single mom, and going to school, and trying to get by! But what I tell them everyday I’m happy, that I have them! There are so many people in this world who enter and are retired and living their dreams already! But all I can do is hope and have faith in this entry and if I don’t win no big deal! I’ve been entering for a long time and you just got to keep trying and some day it may happen! What I would do with the money is help everyone around me that’s even more less fortunate then myself! But I’m happy for who ever wins this dream home! When does the show notify the winner??
They notify the winner via ambush style, with the help of family and friends usually. In the Rules on hgtv.com, it says that the notification for the winner would be March 21st – April 11th. So anytime between there!

It took 5 years to build our home and we lived in a trailer on the land to be altogether it was the best time in our lives. I want to win the bouse and let him decide retire to a new home or take the cash and travel either way it will be my gift

When will they contact the winner? “Sponsor anticipates that the potential Grand Prize Winner will be contacted either by phone, e-mail from the email address homepromotions@scrippsnetworks.com, in writing, or in person via an “ambush style” visit by Sponsor representatives at the Grand Prize Winner’s home or other location between March 21 and April 11, 2017 (subject to change).”
What about taxes? “Real estate transfer taxes, deed recording charges, closing costs, current and future real estate taxes, title insurance, homeowner’s hazard and liability insurance, and all other taxes, costs, fees, and expenses related to the maintenance of the house shall be the responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner commencing as of the date the Grand Prize Winner accepts the Grand Prize.”
Income tax alone would be roughly $700,000 for the home, car, and $250,000 cash. Income tax would be roughly $400,000 for the cash option, car, and $250,000.
Considering the difference in income tax and the additional tax and expense involved with acquiring and selling the house, I plan on taking the cash option.
