Probably not. Especially since so many of the really good deals now only ship with a $25 order. I’ll just stick with target.
I actually just got some of the sports nutrition stuff I typically get from amazon on running warehouse.com.
They had free shipping and it was a little cheaper

  2. Amanda

I’ve been a Prime member for about 9 years now, but I don’t think I’ll continue. Lately my 2 day shipping has been 3 or 4 days and Target has been kicking butt in that department – and I don’t have to pay extra for it.

  3. Brenda

Definitely it. I debated renewing at the previous price! I’m done.

  4. MrsK

Oh, man. How sad. I like to live in a fairytale land where prices never go up. 🙂 I guess this is just a slap of reality. Thank you for bringing me back to reality 🙂

    • Rockstar

And the reality is that most people’s paychecks haven’t kept pace with the price increases they see across everything, not just Amazon. A 20% increase again in less than 4 years is steep!

      • Nicole

Rockstar, this is exactly what has been going through my mind lately as I’ve seen increases even on grocery items that I’ve bought weekly increase over the last few months.

  5. eli

No way am I paying more money. I get better deals using coupons at stores or searching the web.

    • marie

A $20.00 increase per customer is HUGE for Amazon considering how many customers they have!! Somehow I don’t feel they really need to do this!

  6. Jenna

I’m not sure. I think I’ll keep it through the holidays since I do most of my shopping through there, but it’s debatable after that. Prime video hasn’t been as good as I expected, and I’m not sure if you can still do subscribe & save without a prime membership.

    • Kristen

You can totally still do subscribe and save without prime. The only thing prime affects on subscribe and save is diapers and wipes by I cancelled prime last summer and still do subscribe and save every month and get the 15% off

      • SarahP

        Good to know, thanks!

  7. Jen

No. I really wish they’d put their resources into making prices more competitive instead of continuously adding services only a few people use and that other sites already do much better.

  8. Kristin

Probably not I don’t see the benefit anymore as shipping takes so much longer than the two day they promised and most items I buy are cheaper at the store. Plus I don’t really use the added benefit items either. Was thinking of getting my son the Alexia that he wanted for his bday but with this news I think I’ll pass.

  9. shirley

I doubt Amazon would report the decreasing number of subscribers a year from now. No interest in supporting Amazon.

  10. dan

I wonder if you can pay early to lock in the price for another year or more. Any one know?

    • Marie

      would like to know too

  11. muquee

AGAIN! That’s a serious increase, just like the last time.

  12. David

For me Amazon Prime is still a bargain and I will certainly renew.

  13. Debbie Dodson

I won’t be renewing after this increase. Too much money, too many changes. I’ll be shopping elsewhere.

  14. Sarah

So far it’s allowed me to sign up for a free 30 day trial once a year which I start a month or so before Christmas each year. Just because you have used a free 30 day trial before doesn’t mean you can’t use it again! Just a thought.

    • SarahP

Really? I didn’t know that – interesting. Thanks for the tip!

  15. Nicole

Well if they were not wastefully using a box the size of a skateboard for one bar of soap then they would not be forced to increase the price. I think there should be some type of recycle program to turn in boxes to receive credits. I enjoy 2 day shipping but it is not a necessity. Further, Im considering the amount of items I purchase and the cost of shipping annually without of prime would likely not add up to $120. Amazon boycott! ….Hahaha

    • Nikki

      THIS!!!!!!

    • Melissa

So true – their shipping boxes are typically outlandishly large for the items in them. It’s frustrating and so unnecessary.

  16. Christine

I just checked my account and it states I will be charged the $99 on July 15 for my renewal so I guess I better call and find out for sure because they should be notifying customers of this increase before it takes place or even before they do our renewals.

    • Kristin

That’s exactly what I was wondering as well. I just checked mine and it states that I will be charged $99 on Sept 8th. They most definitely need to be emailing all their customers and change what our accounts state.

  17. Stephanie

My account also says that I will be charged $99 on February 24, 2019.

I set up a reminder before the auto renewal and if it does increase by $20, I will be canceling my membership.

  18. Lola

I like Prime. They arrive while I remember what I order.
With standard shipping, I can’t remember what I order when I receive the package.
They spend too much money and creative geeks to create service most of us don’t use. Treasure Truck, Trunk delivery feature, Amazon Fresh etc…

I hope I can renew my membership as prepaid. Then I will stay,

  19. Laura

Paying more for less seems to be the theme these days… I can ship a lot of things for $119 all on my own… the video streaming service doesnt offer enough to compete with Netflix… i dont use music, book, or photo service… they charge extra to have food delivered… and its not competetive pricing with local grocer… and echoing others… i pay for 2 day prime shipping and rarely ever get anything in 4 days (and i live in a city) or have to spend $25 min to have something shipped… or get scammed by merchants… Toys R Us and other box stores would do good to try to ride the wave… Amazons greed may be its undoing…

  20. Rachel

We will probably continue. It’s $20 more for entire year, divide that by 12… Our family enjoys the fast shipping. We live super close to a warehouse, so sometimes our stuff is actually delivered that very same day! I’m not going to complain about that.

  21. SHERRY KAAS

Not sure time will tell. My last package didn’t get here on time. And a few others also. They charge extra for unlimited music and ebooks is extra to maybe get a book or two free to read. But I do have Alexa at home and at work so I need to think about it. But unless you pay more you can only listen to one device so if I’m at work my husband can’t listen at home. Really need to think it over.

    • Emily

I ordered a computer chair once using prime and it did not arrive within the 2 days. I called customer service to find out why there was a delay and they ended up refunding the total cost (over $100) and let me keep the chair which came 2 days later for “the trouble.” Not sure if this is typical or not but I had never had a problem with 2 day shipping before and thought it was worth a shot to call. I certainly didn’t ask for a refund .. I just asked why it was late and when it would arrive.

      • Dawn Mattes

Yes, whenever the 2 days shipping comes longer, I call and always get some kind of kickback except during the last full week of Christmas.

  22. Katieedalgo

This is very disappointing. Their shipping times have slowed already and I feel like this is too much. Bummer.

  23. Holly

And I thought $99 was bonkers. As long as people keep paying, it’ll keep going up.

  24. K Danger

No. I’ve been so frustrated since they changed their shipping policy from 2 day shipping to $35 for two day shipping. They also have limited original programming. Combine all this with third party counterfeit sellers and fake reviews and it’s just not for me. They’re going to have work on their quality control.

  25. Cindi Martin

I will decide at my renewal time. If I would have to decide today it would be no. Lately packages have not arrived in a timely manner and most items are free ship with a small order anyway.

  26. Debbie

    Nope!

  27. Jenn

I’m still going to renew. It’s worth it to me not to have to worry about clipping coupons and going to the store to stock up on things. I usually choose slower shipping (very rarely do I need something in two days) and get the $1 digital credit. If I want an add-on item, I just order through Alexa (got that tip here!). If something arrives late, I contact them and usually get a $10 credit or a month added to Prime. I listen to Prime music stations (the free versions) and it’s so nice without ads. To ensure I’m getting the best deal, I use The Camelizer add-on (www.camelcamelcamel.com) and set up price alerts.

    • Dana Edwards

what’s that tip about add-on items?

      • celticmommie

I don’t have it but I’ve read posts on here that when people order Add-on items through Alexa, they don’t have to reach the minimum purchase price.

  28. Yenti

May not renew as I don’t use the 2-day shipping as often anymore. On the flip side, I have been racking $1 no-rush shipping so that itself may be worth it as I shopped a lot using swagbucks GC. Lol.

  29. Rose

Amazon stock keeps making profit yet they want more money out if me? My packages come late, very late! Waiting weeks for my last order! Amazon charges $4.95 for a paper item that I didn’t realize was a pantry item! Plus there are too many items that are add ons for a minimum of $25! I’m really getting disgusted with amazon!!!!

  30. patty

How do I get Add-Ons items through Alexa? I don’t know how I missed that one, I’m on this site several times a day, my favorite!!!!!!!

    • Jenn

I add the item to my cart then tell Alexa to order it. I say the entire name of the item, and she repeats it and says “from your cart”. Give her my code and she orders! I haven’t had any luck ordering from the app, but the Echo works great.

      • Cindy

April, what do you mean by “give her my code and she orders” — what code?
        thanks!

  31. Momof3BOYS

I’m not happy, but I don’t plan on canceling. We use it way to much, plus I take advantage of Prime Music and photos. I love them both enough to keep the membership.

  32. KMA

I stopped paying for it once I lost my student discount. Their customer service has gone downhill and the two day shipping is often more like 4-6 days. I will stick to Target (free shipping with red card) and Walmart (free two day shipping over $35, I’ll just order household stuff like paper towels to meet the threshold if I need something quickly).

  33. Lisa

Amazon has not been as great about 2 day shipping as they used to be. Even with that said, I have the unique circumstance of having a large family. From that perspective, I will probably keep it.

  34. Asil13

As much as I do not like the increase, I will keep Amazon. With a super busy life, kids work, sports, it comes in handy. And more so during Xmas time. Now that we no longer have Toys r Us can you image the toy section at Target or Walmart ? No thanks ! Amazon will work for me and avoid all the hassle. Especially wit the great deals HIP 2 Save post. Start early …. be done early … Love U Hip 2 Save !!!!

  35. Rebecca

They should have just left the price alone. That’s a step increase. I bet they will loose many customers. They are getting greedy. I go though waves. Sometimes I use my membership & it pays off & sometimes I don’t use it fo months. There are so many companies that are now offering online ordering- think this was a big mistake. I’m dumping it.

  36. ANDREA MARTIN

I quit shopping on Amazon and get the 2 day free shipping in Target with their Redcard debit card and Walmart for other needs. Walmarts fast free shipping kicks Amazon in the butt. Amazons 2day prime shipping takes a week to arrive, between the time it takes them to package up my stuff and then their shipping company is slow at delivering. I have had many packages lost too. Walmarts prices are better than Amazon and the fact that their shipping is free and very fast, has won my business. Amazon is showing their true colors, they are charging their loyal customer base more money for a bad service that doesnt deliver on time.

  37. Dorothy Remer

I’m still wondering, like a few people above if we can pre-pay now for a couple of years??? (Even just one year!)

  38. Kristen

Noticed a bunch of people saying they were getting their packages in more like 3-4 days instead of the 2. If you’re paying for prime, and get a package not delivered on time, email Amazon! This only happened to me twice in the past year where I didn’t get my package in 2 days (and it was due to storms), but I let Amazon know, and each time they gave me a free month of Prime added onto my current membership.

    • hologram87

I’ve tried a few times complaining about the fact that 2 day shipping is in fact not really 2 days and they just say “thanks for letting us know. Sorry.” Never compensated with a free month. To me 2 days should be 2 days, but their explanation is that it is 2 days after it leaves them. so strange.

      • dealzgurl

They don’t offer you the free month…you have to ask them to compensate you with the free month of Prime. I live outside of a major city (but still in the metro area technically) but I have no problem with getting my packages on time. I almost wish I did, lol, so that I could get a free month of Prime. Lately, I’ve been selecting the no rush shipping to build up credits.

Still, I’m on the fence about continuing with Prime. It’s good that I could still do Subscribe & Save but overall my spending with Amazon has dropped pretty drastically. I’m so well stocked on household goods that I don’t need it as much. The video selection has always sucked in my opinion and I never used the photo service because I didn’t want to get sucked in to that. I use the music less now because I prefer GooglePlay….and the whole add-on thing is just ridiculous so that’s another reason I’m considering dropping Prime.

    • Lolita

I have contacted them before, but for me it is a pain to have to take time to contact them about issues. I have lists of companies to contact about issues with this or that, just like bags of things to return for this or that, but honestly I don’t really have the time to deal with all of it.

  39. Maggie

The crappy thing about this is that PRIME shipping is NOT really free. Nearly all the PRIME items cost several bucks more than other stores in order to roll the cost of shipping into the item. Once I started price-checking, I’ve often found the same item cheaper EVEN PAYING SHIPPING on competing websites. Amazon has created this false impression of great prices, but mostly their prices are actually pretty high.

Lately Costco.com has been killing it with their online deals and free shipping. Target/RedCard too. For natural groceries, I just wait to order through Vitacost until I have a big enough order for free shipping, and the prices are nearly always less than Amazon (sometimes by a lot).

  40. Melinda P

I’ll still pay for Prime. Prime is so much more than 2-day shipping. I like Subscribe and Save. I like all the other Prime services, including Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Photos, Prime Reading, etc. My 2-day shipping is satisfactory. Like Kristen said above, email Amazon every time they’re late. I’ve gotten several free months added to my Prime membership. Once I even got a $5 credit. Yeah, it stinks that they raised the price, but that figures out to about $10/month. For what I get, I’m still happy.

    • Kim B

Thanks for info on the credit extension. It took me a minute to figure out to contact them but I got an extension on something late. I will renew. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon and usually at the last minute. It saves me a frustrating trip to Wal-mart that will in the end cost me more an a dollar or two for an item needed in a hurry.

  41. Georgia

One of the best ways to stop rising prices is to stop buying the product when its priced to high. Most people will pay ridiculous prices for fruit and vegetables because they can’t say no to their, “I deserve it mentality.” This makes it hard for those of us who will do without and leave the store with much less than what we really need. Shoppers who buy those products at inflated prices hurt working families who are caught in the middle, poor but not poor enough to qualify for any kind of help whatsoever. Stop buying products that are ridiculously priced, the market will respond!!!

  42. Gayla

I will be keeping Prime. I think I can justify the cost increase as I placed 78 orders in 2016 and 57 orders in 2017. I use the Prime Music and Photo apps as well. I use the Camel browser plug-in to monitor prices as well.

  43. shop4mybabies

we use amazon to order my daughters textbooks, toys and electronics at holidays and books to read. We absolutely stopped paying for prime when it went to 99$ because it wasn’t worth it for us, but now we get it a discount for amazon student prime with her college email. I definitely think unless you’re the rarity that places many many orders that it’s not a cost effective savings

  44. celticmommie

I wish they offered different levels of Prime – I don’t use the cloud storage, music or kindle books and I could live without the prime movies. But I do really like the 2 day shipping…I live near a distribution site so I don’t have a problem with getting orders in 2 days. But where as $99 was doable as a luxury item, $120 is really pushing it. I just renewed last month so I’ll have to see how the year goes on whether I renew. It’s really disappointing.

    • SHARON

Exactly what I was thinking. I don’t use the free movies, music, kindle, or photo storage. Amazon says we’re getting a great value when you consider everything that’s included, but if you don’t use all the extras where’s the value in that?!

  45. Lolita

I was already contemplating cancelling even before the price hike… I don’t use their video, their music is a lot more limited than Spotify, I can use Walmart or Target for the little things I used to buy. More than once I have had a subscribe and save order slip buy with me paying a high price because I forgot to cancel, so S&S isn’t that great for me anymore either.

  46. Doug

How is it “free” if I have to pay $119? What do I get just for a prime membership?
Isn’t 2-day shipping included? Not free 2-day shipping… If you pay for it.

  47. Stephanie

Definitely not renewing. This is too steep of an increase for me!!!!

  48. Joyce Pereira

Wish they would consider the price increase for just new memberships and grandfather in the existing members at the renewal rates they started with. It would be a small price to pay for customer satisfaction, and we might actually be inclined to buy more if we felt we were valued customers!

  49. Aaron

There is a “hack” you can try to keep it at $99 for one more year. Go now and buy a Prime Membership and check that it is a GIFT. Cancel your membership around June 14. Then redeem your “gift” to yourself. You’ll get a year at the $99 price!

  50. Sandra

I probably will renew mine. We live in a rural area, and our only large store is Walmart. It seems as though I have trouble finding things there, because the variety of items they carry seems to be shrinking. My husband likes Prime Video too.
