Say it ain’t so! 😩

The bulk meat retailer Zaycon Fresh abruptly announced they suspended business operations with a landing page on their website that reads, “It is with deep regret that we inform you that as of June 25th, we are suspending business operations. Zaycon Fresh has put forth monumental efforts to endure recent challenges but conditions are such that this suspension is necessary. Updates will be forthcoming as we are able to provide them. Thank You.”

We are just as devastated by this news as you are! 😣 The Hip2Save teams LOVES Zaycon Fresh and many of us have gotten amazing deals on bulk orders of meat through them within the past few years. It’s one of our favorite ways to save when it comes to purchasing meat!

The details surrounding their sudden closing are still very unknown (their only acknowledgment has been on their website) though it’s likely due to their rapid growth and inability to keep up with orders that they had to close their doors. It’s also important to note that they’re calling this a “suspension”, meaning there’s a possibility that business operations will return at some point.

The company has deleted their Facebook page where they had been fielding tons of questions.

Have a pending order with Zaycon Fresh?

Most customers have reported that they received notifications about order pickup cancellations, though if you have yet to see one and have a pending order, you’ll want to email their customer service (questions@zayconfresh.com) for further clarification. You’ll also want to file a dispute as soon as possible with your bank, credit card company, or Paypal to ensure you don’t pay for a product you don’t receive.

We’ll post updates as we learn more and encourage any readers to leave any information they’ve received from contacting the company in the comments for others.

    Its all due to CO2 shortage that helps in preserving the meat. If they cant deliver it in edible state then they cant carry on their operations.

        I would recommend contacting your local cattleman’s association for names of local beef producers. My husband and I have approximately 100 registered black angus cattle and the meat is delicious. Most importantly, I appreciate knowing where our beef comes from and how it has been raised. Believe me, agricultural is truly a labor of love for us. I hope this helps. Thanks hip2save for all you do!

      Me too! I’m supposed to pick up tomorrow and I’m kind of freaking out. I paid for it so long ago I don’t even know where to start trying to find the transaction to call the bank. Fingers crossed it will be there tomorrow

    I loved their price and great quality seafood but in the last year or so they’ve made it very difficult to keep buying from them. I waited 8 months after I paid for salmon because they kept pushing the date back. Then when the new date finally arrived, they moved the time too without me noticing and I missed it. Then they tried to keep 10% of my order total after cancelling. 🙅 😵

    I’ve been wondering when you guys would post on this! There’s been lots of speculation, this morning I read a new one that a blogger for them stated they’re being sued by an investor they defaulted on, so who knows. Too bad though!

    I contacted my CC company last night, I don’t want to wait and hope for the best if the longer wait means the less likelihood I’ll get my money back. It’s a bummer though, I had great plans for my 80lbs of chicken this fall!

    I received this message on June 24:

    Last night the Zaycon Refer Trailer had a major mechanical breakdown that was not able to be repaired nor was a replacement unit able to be secured in time. As a result all of the remaining product on the trailer is a total loss. We are needing to cancel your event due to the loss of the product. We sincerely apologize for this and are working on a solution. We will send a notification tomorrow with an update.

    I placed my first order in March. After the delivery date changed 4 times I canceled my order on May 22. I received an email saying a credit was given but it never processed on my cc and I’m the middle of a dispute now. MAKE SURE TO CHECK that the cc refund actually goes through!

    they been recently accused of inhumane treatment of their animals – like keeping chicken in overcrowded cages not able to move, causing very bad illnesses, adding bunch of antibiotics to their food to cope with those illnesses and many other gross things. That sad people carry about beauty products to be cruelty free, but forget that their meet has to be cruelty free as well.

        Their business was built on offering an affordable alternative to the usual options for cheap meats. As a matter of fact, they used to advertise their chicken as pastured, antibiotic, & hormone free, and their beef as grass fed. This is not the case anymore.

        I agree. Vegetarian here with some family members that eat meat. Doing the math per month, and year it sounds like you needed to be rich to shop with Zaycon too. I guess they got famous for giving freebies to bloggers (on various topics: mostly food, mom, and coupon bloggers). I am so sad for anyone that was exploded. :'(

    Good luck- I met with a zaycon delivery guy this morning to see if I could get a box of wings since my chicken breast weren’t going to be delivered until NEXT MONTH now. Here is what he told me-

    They told me I could come pick up and deliver to the customers or not and if I wanted to just take it to a charity I could.

    Really??? I’m all about charities, but I want what I paid for and if your just going to “donate” those chicken wings then donate a box to me so I’m not out much money. I’m just ticked. I’m out $140 but I know some people are out a whole lot more.

    This is terrible and frustrating! I have an order I am suppose to pick up this Friday! I also had an order that was rescheduled like 5 times and then set for August. Gosh I am so sad about this. We love getting meat in bulk and the fact that we were getting it fresh was just great! I’m going to have to call. Thank you so much for the update.

    If you’re having issues getting your money back, I would start with a dispute first, then contact your state attorney general, amd the Better Business Bureau.

    The one and only time I got chicken breastfeeding I found the meat to be tough and some grizzled. The deal was great but the meat quality I was not impressed. After several back and forth emails with pictures they refunded my money. Thankfully that was taken care of before all this. With the sudden abruption in suspending operations, deleting their FB page and so on, there is more to this than simply not being able to keep up with demand

    I found out we have a local distributor who is selling his cases of chicken off at 40lbs for $40. We are in southern Az. I have not ordered in a while because I did not have a freezer but we just made the purchase so I was hoping to stock up.

    Zaycon knew exactly what they were doing. They delayed orders long enough so that most people can’t get the money back through their credit card companies because the date to do so has expired. My credit card company informed me that they will open a dispute but that is all they can do. If Zaycon won’t reverse the charges, I am out of luck. I have been screwed out of hundreds of dollars.

      The exact same thing happened to me. They delayed my order so many times but now I can’t get a dispute resolved through my credit card company. So angry.

      Yep, I agree. They knew exactly what they were doing. Stringing us along until we were stuck with no means to get refunds. I have one from Sept 2017 that Ill likely never receive a refund on. Deplorable. I hope they are held accountable for these unethical business practices.

    I have 2 orders of chicken pending pick up (80 pounds for July 20th) and 40 pounds for October 31st. I am devastated to think we are out all of that money! Will try to contact bank but not feeling optimistic we’ll see any refund. If anyone has success with getting refunds, I hope you’ll post and give the rest of us hope. so upset right now 🙁

      Me too! So glad I just bought a bunch of meat from my Kroger…kudos to local grocery stores who wouldn’t do something like this to people. I feel so bad for everyone who counted on their meat orders and for being out of the money. Don’t give up…God will provide!

      I had heard many good things and thought about about ordering a few months back and trying it when they did the 99cent/lb chicken. They were sold out at the location near me except for the day we were suppose to be in court for the trial for the person who hit my husband while he was outside his patrol car blocking off an exit ramp.
      I am so glad now that I was not able to order but I feel bad for all those who ordered especially since they had been having so many deals for 1st time customers. Makes me wonder if they knew this was going to happen and tried to bring in more money with no intentions of ever fulfilling the order.

    Has anyone been able to send email? With their whole site down I doubt it will go through. There’s not even the suspended message now it’s just down. Horrible! They didn’t just go oh we’re closing today oops.

      I just went to the main website address (typed it in to make sure a default one didn’t go through), and there’s a link to an email address for questions.

    That’s terrible! My first experience with them was amazing. I had an order for October and I haven’t heard anything from them. That is terrible business. I’ll file with my CC company today and hope for the best.

    I had a bacon pickup this morning and I awoke to an email saying the event was canceled and they were suspending operations. I have filed a dispute with my bank, but since I made the purchase in February and delivery was pushed back twice, I doubt I will get that $100 back. All in all, we are out $130 for two orders, but I’m thankful I decided to curb my purchases these past few months or it would’ve been much more! I am so disappointed in the way this company handled themselves and treated their loyal customers. Such a shame.

    I called my bank and because I used debit card (I don’t own credit cards) they said there is nothing that can be done on their end. I have 3 orders ($136 total) and am now out that money. I am sick to my stomach over this….:(

      You can still dispute debit card purchases but there is only a certain time frame to do so.

      What logo is on your debit card? Like Mastercard, etc? You can try contacting them to try to dispute. For example if I use my debit as credit & it’s stolen I can contact Mastercard to dispute. Now, if it’s debit you don’t have as much protection, but it’s worth a shot.

        It has Mastercard logo.. the first two charges were Feb and March…this latest one was May 21st. The lady at the bank just said there was nothing I could do since I put it as debit (that I was accepting the risk). 🙁

    I tried to order from them about 7 months ago for the first time. I was supposed to get a delivery the next month but got an email rescheduling. Then I received email after email after email before I had to call and complain to get my refund which I just received about 2 weeks ago. I wasn’t pleased one bit. I hate this for the company, employees and people that had great experiences but for me I was not happy.

    Had no luck contacting them. Went ahead and filed a dispute with my credit card and they refunded me everything! Praise the Lord! That was a lot of money….

    they are and have been being sued. they have over 800 dollars of mine, i paid by debit and bank cant do anything over 60 days. well, its been over 60 becasue they kept rescheduling. my bacon pick up was for tody it is 2 hrs away. and july and aug, so i am out over 800 and no more money to get more.     they need to need to be in jail. they were collecting money even on sundy night. how do you screw people , i am going to call BBB and consumer affairs in washington as soon as they open. i am thinking of making the 2 hr dr hoping the driverss will do the right thing.     I received an email June 23 from zaycon with my referral code encouraging me to share again with friends!! So glad I did not share. I, too, have orders where payment has already posted. I hope my cc can help me in this dilemma.

      I sent email to the address zaycon posted, questions@zayconfresh.com. It went through, but I did not receive any reply. I also just talked with my cc rep, they were great help in filing my dispute!

    i also NEVER got any email saying it was cancelled, i did get a text sund confirming the pick up. did anyone pick up today since i know thre are many today. i am in nj. i still have nothing saying it is cancelled. i only found out from someone on facebook. it is a 2 hr drive for me, but i am sure there are many who have no clue. and i am hoping maybe if they have the orders on the truck they will have a conscience and deliver. anyone hear anything on todays deliverys???

    From a friend:

    Just skimmed the lawsuit… sorry to say it guys but the company is over, please make the necessary complaints with your financial institutions. Basically, they defrauded their main investor. The people who started the company sold him shares in 2014 because they needed money even though they were not licensed to do so and using fraudulent documentation (which at least two of the people had been sued for doing with a previous company). The investor was a big name- former president of Citigroup, Citibank, ceo of Priceline, hellofresh, etc. He invested around 5 million in Zaycon and within a year knew something was up, offered to be the ceo without salary to turn it around, did just that, basically tripled the value of the company. The company needed another investor, they used his big name to get a big investor, fired him and tried to get the new investor to still invest, they declined and the company failed. This was back in 2016. The big name ex-CEO actually went out and found a new investor for them and Zaycon literally just said no because they knew it would mean they would have to pay him back for his investment. He filed suit on them for all of their various fraud back in Nov 2016. They shut down yesterday. They knew it was coming and the co-founders have filed bankruptcy before, they just squeezed all of their customers for the last bit of money they could get before declaring bankruptcy. At least that is my judge Judy legal school interpretation. 😕

    This is sad news! They’ve been around a while so you’d think they’d have it down by now. They’re headquarters are in Spokane….I might make a little drive to the offices today and see if it’s even open and if I can find anything out (prob not, but worth a try!) I have two orders for the fall and I haven’t received an email about refund, etc. I’m within the 60 days for disputing a debit charge so I might start there. Good luck, everyone!

    My bank which is a VISA cc said although it’s past the 60 days, everyone should file a dispute. Visa will more likely do a bigger investigation when they see how many people were affected and then give us our money back. Please please take a few minutes of your time and file a dispute!.

    I just received my first order on June 22. It was bacon that had been rescheduled like all my other orders. The bacon was premium and I was so excited to see the other meats coming. I had an order for July, August, and 2 in September totaling $370. GRRRRRR!!!!

      Does the bacon box have any name or other identifying marks? I agree the bacon is superb and would like to try and find it on my own. My dh is especially sad about the loss of bacon.

    I got my order of chicken breasts last week. I just want to know if its safe to eat. This sudden shut down makes me extremely nervous to eat it. I portioned, sealed and froze it and it looked fine. Just a bit worrisome.

      The food is still safe that I can tell. We’ve eaten it with no issues. Printing receipts for future orders so that I can call my cc company

    My order is 12:30 to 1:30 today, We got a cancellation text , but my husband is driving thru the lot anyways to see if there’s is any action, Ill post an update soon. It’s an extra bummer since we already called the bank and they cannot do anything to dispute the charge because we used debit back in February and there is only a 60 day window.

      Nothing was there, a few people lingering on phones and shaking their heads but no delivery. Here’s to hoping the debit carders can recover there loss somehow.

    Finally decided to give them a try. Order in Feb and April that kept getting rescheduled. My CC is helping with the April order, but Feb order is too long ago. Bummer, I hate to be out that much money for nothing now. Best of luck to everyone!!!

    Ugh. I was able to dispute the charge for my September delivery chicken breast, but after talking to a nice customer service person at my cc company, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get my money back for the bacon that’s supposed to be delivered on July 11. Thankfully, they’re willing to work with me on that one.

    Thank you so much for this post. I have been a huge fan of Zaycon and loved the product and prices. We are in the middle of moving so I placed some large orders and even have a pick-up scheduled for this weekend. No emails, nothing. So, thanks to you, I called the bank and put in disputes for all of my recent orders. Hopefully, I can get some money back.

    Ack!! I, too, am so saddened and disappointed! I have ordered from zaycon for close to 8 years! Wonder if anyone can help with this one – back in Feb my order came and was completely freezer burned and inedible, upon emailing zaycon they credited my zaycon acct for the total (over $100) My most recent order, pick up scheduled for July, was paid via that credit so clearly I cannot contact my bank to dispute, how can I possibly go about trying to be reimbursed?!?

      If they file for bankruptcy you can file as a creditor. You probably will only get pennies on the dollar though.
