Last time I signed up for one of those Groupon 100% cash back deals my credit card (which was physically on me and was not lost nor stolen!!) was used somehow seeeeveral states away at a gas station just a week or so afterwards.
Could be total coincidence, but I won’t chance it anymore.

Oh bummer! Very sorry to hear about that, Mimi 🙁

    • Jennifer

      Sounds like a complete coincidence.

    • Chris

It was a coincidence. People try to connect things that aren’t there, the reality is you used your card somewhere that was compromised, possibly a gas station itself, fast food, etc. Probably somewhere like wendys that for some reason still uses swipe instead of chip even though they were already hacked. When you swipe a card it sends the actual card number to the computer, when you use the chip its encrypted and the register just gets a single-use token for the transaction.

All it takes is malware on the Point of sale terminal while swiping a card and then it gets bundled with tons of other card numbers and sold online. I won’t use my debit card anywhere that doesn’t do chip or contactless because of this.

Thanks so much, used this morning! One time got the money back quickly, one time contacted customer service and they sent it later on. This time sent an email saying will be sent the money in a few days and was able to get my son an ice drink, thanks!

Im not finding where it says valid 14 days after you claim offer, my Groupon says Claimed On: Monday, Aug 20, 2018
Expires On: Thursday, Sep 27, 2018 (37 Days)

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks so much for pointing that out! Updating the post now!

I did this with another company (a pizza place) and it was credited back to me in 2-3 days. Worked perfectly! Sorry to hear it didn’t go as smoothly for others.

Semi unrelated but someone used my Groupon account to purchase a bunch of deals, about $700 worth, during xmas holiday. The charges were reversed back to my cc but customer service said it might be because I have auto fill on with my sign on and password on my home computer. So now I have removed all cookies and auto log in on my cell, ipads and computers. I also only use paypal with these accounts which immediately alerts me if someone used my account. Chip vs swipe is not the only way someone can hack your account these days. I don’t use my cc at Shell gas stations for work related fill ups. I use my Fuel Rewards work app; if anyone stole my sign in they could fill their tank as well.

I got the offer, but Groupon automatically added the card I use with them — a debit card! It appears I can’t change it, so I don’t know if I will get it or not 🙁

    • Chels

If you go into your Groupon account you can change which card it uses for your Groupon+ Deals.

Does anyone know if the cashback qualifies on getting donuts and baskin robbins where they’re at combined locations?
