Weighted Blanket Deals

Weighted blankets make great gifts!

Are you tired from a bad night’s sleep? Consider adding a weighted blanket to your holiday wish list this year. Originally created for children with autism, weighted blankets have become wildly popular for their sleep-inducing and calming effects – and they’re safe and effective for kids and adults alike!

How do weighted blankets work?

A weighted blanket is a calming tool providing pressure and sensory input for individuals with autism and sleep disorders. The pressure of the blanket provides proprioceptive input to the brain and releases a hormone called serotonin which is a calming chemical in the body.

These blankets essentially make you feel as if you’re being held or hugged by somebody when you sleep. 😴 Similar to an X-ray protection blanket that the dentist places on you during a dental exam, the weighted blanket molds to your body and acts as a deep pressure therapy to soothe the nervous system. I’m getting sleepy just thinking about one!

Weighted Blankets

What size of weighted blanket is best?

Weighted blankets come in a variety of sizes, weights, and fabrics, but it’s important to choose a blanket that’s just the right size for your weight. Most manufacturers recommend that you choose a blanket that weighs about 10%-12% of your body weight plus one or two pounds.

Are weighted blankets covered by insurance?

Possibly! Every health care insurance plan is different, but weighted blankets can be considered durable medical equipment, so they might be covered by some insurance companies. Your doctor or pediatrician may be able to write your child a prescription for a weighted blanket, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Where can I get the best deals on weighted blankets?

We thought you’d never ask! Here are some of the best places to score a deal on your blanket so you can sleep easy, knowing you saved money and time.

Thank you so much for posting this buying guide! The timing was perfect since my Mom just told me she wants a weighted blanket for Christmas. Thanks again for always helping me save money! 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Aww, you’re very welcome!! SO glad you could grab the savings on her gift! 😉

  2. Val

    ❤️ thank you for posting!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome, Val!

  3. KS

We purchased a weighted blanket from and love it. I recommend buying one with a washable, removable slip cover!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful tip, KS! I’ve been thinking of grabbing one for my Mom for Christmas! I’m thinking she’d love one of these!

    • Susie

We purchased this on as well from Costco and love it!! It’s the Blanquil brand for only $89-$99! Much better quality than the others I’ve purchased and returned. And it has the removable cover which is the biggest plus.

  4. L

Only thing that has me on the fence is I hear that they can’t be washed. That would be a deal breaker for me.

    • KS

Find one with a slip cover!

    • maria

5mine doesn’t have a cover and I hace washed it 3 times now with no problems. I take it to a laundry mat and wash it in the huge front loaders.

  5. Viv

Does anyone have a recommendation for one for a larger size adult over 200 pounds? Thank you.

    • Jodi P

20 pounds should be plenty heavy for any larger adult. At some point, too heavy could be very cumbersome.

    • Sarah

I believe 20 lbs should work as a max weight. I bought a 25 lb going on the 10% body weight suggestion and it is definitely too heavy. I am now looking for an 18 lb

  6. Shantel

Thank you for this post! Santa is bringing each of us one – family of 4 – so this is very helpful.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      How exciting! You’re welcome, Shantel!

  7. Gigi

Can anyone recommend a cover? We have #2 above but the cover is an additional $60 and we are not really fond of flannel in Florida. I would appreciate any recommendations! TIA!

    • Penny

I think you can just get a normal duvet cover. I’m thinking of getting #2.

    • Helen in Meridian

Our thrift stores have lots of duvet covers. If you can sew a strait line, you could cut a larger duvet to just fit your weighted comforter. They run around $6.99 or so at the thrift stores.

    • Deanna

I just purchased a twin duvet cover, will sew it smaller to fit this weighted blanket. Voila!

  8. embee

Anyone know if a duvet cover can be put on the one from kohls? Also is 12 pounds too much for a small 7 yr old? It’s defenitely more than 10% of his body weight. I want to buy it for him but not if it could be dangerous. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

  9. D's Mom

Does anyone know if they make a “lap” size blanket? My ADHD son would really benefit from one, but he is only about 56lbs. (he’s 10) so I thought maybe a lap size might be available, like about 6-8lbs or so. Thanks!!

    • Jessica

Check out Overgrown Green Soul – she makes wonderful weighted blankets, including lap blankets.

      • D's Mom

Thanks so much, I’ll check this out 🙂 He uses like 6 blankets at night, its like a cocoon 🙂 He’s so funny about his blankets.

    • Tobey

Yorkshire Home Soft Heavy Thick Plush Mink Blanket.

      Target $39

My son has ADHD and I got him this blanket that is 8 pounds

      • D's Mom

Thank You so much for the info! I really like the price point 🙂 It so much better than when he was diagnosed and they wanted $600 for a prescription one.

  10. Cherdh

Excellent overview! I ordered the Buzio last week and it is perfect! 100% cotton and doesn’t make me too hot.
I’ve never fallen to sleep more quickly!

  11. Awesome Deal!

Hey! So I got a 12 pound weighted blanket from one of the sales on here and I fell in love with it! I have among other things, Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Insomnia and PTSD. I have meds prescribed to help me sleep by my psych doctor. Idk how to tell you they work but they do. A week later I found another deal on here and asked my mom to get me the 20 pound blanket which is appropriate for my size. She got it so I have the smaller one on the couch and the larger pound one on my bed. I wish I had known about these sooner. My 2 daughters need one and I plan to get them one as soon as possible. I’m a huge skeptic on things like this but this is for real! Just try a 12 pound or so and that will be enough to let you know if it’s for you.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

How cool! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with these! Such a great idea to start with the 12 pound blanket first!

  12. Jaime Tobias

    Thank you! Perfect timing!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome!

  13. Katherine

Is there no more favorite button? I don’t see one anymore. This is something I would like to favorite to come back and find easily when I have more time available to read the post.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi there! Are you on a mobile device, looking for the Hiplist? That is not yet available in the app. However, we will be adding it in the future! In the meantime, be sure to switch to desktop view OR hop on a desktop. Hoping that helps!

I went to Hip2save website on my iPad and just added it to my home screen, it’s just like an

  15. SusieQ2765

I ordered the 2 of the Kohl’s blankets last week when they had 30% off and $10 of $50 home purchase. It probably wasn’t quite as good a deal as the Black Friday deal. It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my daughter who suffers from anxiety. However, night before last, she was having difficulty sleeping so I went ahead and gave it to her early. She went to sleep almost immediately and slept through the night. She said it was the best she had slept in forever. And it wasn’t really the recommended weight for her. Anyway, it was worth it to me for her to get a good night’s sleep for a change.

  16. Kaylee

I’ve been wanting one for our bed but it just doesn’t make sense when I weigh 110 lbs and my husband weighs 210 lbs! Does anyone else have this issue? All of the blankets seem to be so big so it doesn’t look like I could get individual ones.

    • Mallory

The ones listed above are for an individual. My husband and I each have our own.

  17. Margaret

I cannot seem to find the 5% off coupon for the 15lb blanket with the cover😕

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm, are you using code E3VAC9MS as listed above? That is still working for me at checkout. Hope that helps!

  18. sara

if doctor writes a prescription for you where do we redeem that prescription for our insurance

    • Scruffybean718

You should be able to take that prescription to a local DME (Durable Medical Equipment) provider in your area. If you call your insurance they should supply you with a list of local businesses.

    • Matt

If you call your local pharmacy, ask them if they do DME billing. (durable medical equipment). If they don’t, they should be able to tell you one near by that does.

  19. Key

I have been approved by insurance to get a blanket but I can’t find a DMV that carries them. Please help😩

    • Beth

      What does DMV mean?

    • Cassandra Sanchez

I think you mean DME, and I would try calling your local pharmacy.

  20. Tobey

Yorkshire Home Soft Heavy Thick Plush Mink Blanket $39 at target

I ordered this blanket from target. It weights 8 pounds but is not sectioned off weight, it is mire like a regular blanket. I love it and bought one for my son who has trouble sleeping and has adhd.

  21. Jo

I’m not understanding. The listed blankets seem to be for the weight of an adult, but the comments are from young children that can’t weigh as much as the recommended weight of the blanket. (5 and 8 year olds are often not 140-150 pounds. I’m listing the weight mentioned. )

  23. Ani

So if the buzio is designed to be used 10-12% of body weight…how is that possibly suitable for a 90-130 pounds? Your range says 90-150…..

  24. Brenda W

Does anyone know if I can use my HSA money to purchase one of these?

  25. Lee

so I’m curious to hear from people that have actually used a weighted blanket for at least a month, as opposed to those who have gotten a deal on one.

    • Shelby

My daughter (teenage) has struggled with sleep issues for years. I bought her a weighted blanket with minky cover from Amazon (10% of her body weight), which she has used for about three months. While it is not a miracle, her sleep length and quality has improved considerably. She says that she falls asleep more easily, and feels more relaxed.

    • maria

I had one made for myself for Christmas last year. I have used it every single day since. I even take it with me on vacation.

  26. Kelly

My girlfriend has a company that makes these. While hers cost more than the ones listed, the weights can be removed for washing and they are really high quality. Her company has been around for years and they have put a lot of time into making these what they are today. They also have vests as well as lap and shoulder products. I’m including a link (not sure the link worked, but it is Weighted Wearables) and hope that’s o.k..
    Hope this helps someone!

  27. Sara

I’ve been searching everywhere for one that is organic fabric. Anyone ever see one? Not on amazon!

    • patricia

Sara, Cherished acres sewing on facebook does custom weighted blankets. She had commented on one of the facebook posts about weighted blankets and I have been following her. She may do organic cotton ?

  28. Dgraves

Kohl’s is sold out online. I had the blanket in my bag at 12 am. Went to check out at 12:05 am and it was unavailable. 🙁

  29. Kaln

Is Target already sold out for shipping on the weighted blanket? I put in my zip code and it says shipping is not available and it’s not even the Black Friday price yet, listed as $69.99

    • Dgraves

It is sold out online. Now listing the $50 price, but not in stock. They were bought up at $69.99.

  30. Elisabeth

Can anyone suggest where to get a cover for a reasonable price?
    Thank you!
