You’re welcome, Janie! I grabbed a couple of these for my Nephew too! These blocks are so fun!

Can someone recommend which set would be best for a 4 1/2 year old boy (He will turn 5 in March).
    Thanks

I have twin nephews who love the regular legos now, I grabbed this 900 pc set for them. The duplicate are bigger pieces I feel like are geared toward smaller kiddos πŸ˜‰ unless your little guy has a tendency to still put things in his mouth.

    • Heather

I would go with the regular size, not duplos would say they are more for infant toddler age, unless he still put things in his mouth.

You can go for the Classic one if younger kids are not there cos of choking hazard.. I’m buying Duplo set for my 5 year old cos of his 2 year old baby sister..

So here is my personal opinion on buying Lego sets, take it for whatever it’s worth…my husband and I have bought a LOT of lego sets for our kids (4 and 7). Our kids LOVE legos! Our opinion is that if you want them to be fun you have to buy sets that actually have the good pieces that make building fun. Pieces such as hinges, arches, thick baseplates (not the crappy ones that can be bent easily) etc…the best example I can think of this is the Lego Creator Treehouse set, here’s the link for reference: LEGO Creator Treehouse Adventures 31053 Building Toy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CU9WZGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_oLK9BbHSTQFMR
We bought this set a years or so ago when it was less and it was an awesome set. Easily one of the best we’ve ever bought. It has a lot of great pieces. It has hinges that make it so you can create hidden doors on the treehouse and a ladder that comes up. Basically a lot of moveable pieces. Something else I’ve noticed that my kids love are the figures. You gotta have some good figures they like playing with. The sets being sold like the one in this post are great for adding to a Lego collection to have extra basic pieces, but I would recommend finding a really cool set that your child might like first and then adding to it with the set mentioned in the post. I’ve currently got my eye on this set because it’s looks like it has some fun pieces in it: Lego Creator Treehouse Treasure 31078 Building Set (260 Piece) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DMX9WMH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6TK9Bb12N144V
Sorry for the insanely long post, but I hope this is helpful!

Thank you Britt for sharing the links for those sets! I had never seen them and they look like something my son would LOVE! I’m going to keep my eye on them for any sales! πŸŽ‰

Last year I bought this online and my order got canceled.

    • Danielle

I bought 2 earlier, and it is now showing it has been shipped.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh bummer! Hoping it does not get cancelled this time if you decide to order again!

Thanks so much I grabbed a set of each! I have a 5 and 3 year old and they both still love the duplos! I bought one of those bags that open up as play space then cinch back closed for easy cleanup! Best thing ever! I can open it up and the kids will build for at least an hour and then it is easy cleanup! Win Win for a busy Mom! 😁

    • Erica (Silly Sidekick)

      Awesome! You’re so welcome!

  5. Sarah

Looks like the duplo set are only available in stores.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

The classic is still available for shipping! Hope that helps!
