This is a really good deal but I’m still unsure about using Nest and being dependent on WiFi for something as big as house temperature.

    • Richard

Even if WiFi goes down you can manually change all settings.

Thanks! I think I’m going to give it a try.

Be sure to check your energy company to see if they offer incentives for getting a smart thermostat! When we upgraded ours we got a $75 rebate! Wish we would have waited for a deal like this to come around, but hopefully someone else will be able to 🙂

      Awesome tip, thanks Meranda!

Do I need a HVAC specialist to install nest? Or can I do it myself?

    • ldtindc

You can install it yourself. Best decision w made. The Nest is great. Even greater with google mini.

Just a forewarning- the “”learning” part of this thermostat includes the thermostat automatically adjusting the temperature in your home based on prior activity. It was extremely annoying for me because it would always think I was away when I wasn’t and dip the temperature lower than I was comfortable with. Also if it didn’t detect my phone at home, it would turn down the temperature. I believe there are more bugs to work out in the system before I ever allow a “learning” thermostat in my home.

We got a Nest a few months ago along with the sensors and it’s one of the best purchases we have made for our house. We have a two story home and certain rooms get really hot/cold. We put the sensors throughout the house and we can adjust the temperature based on that room’s temperature. The brilliant contractors who built our house put our thermostat in the same room as our fireplace. So before we made this purchase, we would freeze the rest of the house out if we turned on our fireplace. But not anymore!!! Also, check your gas and electrical companies for rebates. We got rebates from both!
