Kohl's storefront

Thanks to this partnership, you can shop Kohl’s & ALDI without moving your car!

Early last year, Kohl’s announced that they were making plans to adjust their store footprint. Some stores would get an updated layout to optimize existing space, and some would be “right-sized” where extra store space would be leased to other companies.

One of the companies Kohl’s planned to partner with was ALDI – and that plan is finally starting to take shape! Earlier this month, ALDI opened its doors in Waukesha, WI, in a portion of store space previously occupied by Kohl’s.

More of these partnerships are planned – up to an additional ten are on the horizon for this year – with a potential for more in the future.

So now you’ll be able to stop by Kohl’s, hit the awesome clearance racks and pick up cute new home items, and then stop next door and shop ALDI for hot savings on your grocery bill.

    That’s an interesting combo

  2. Daniela

Their style is opposite. Kohl’s raises prices and offer deep coupons. Aldi’s offers cheapest price and no coupons. This is going to be interesting…

  3. scamp

I must admit I think its odd too. Not a natural combo. I’m curious to find out if it is successful. Thanks for the post. Please let us know when they open more.

      You’re welcome! You bet!

  5. Alyssa

Kinda a weird combo, but as more and more stores are closing their doors, I’m glad kohl’s is adapting their business model.

  6. Luna

Strange! They are just the opposites wonder how this will work out! Can’t wait to see

I wish the Aldi here in RI looked like the picture you posted.

    • kerRI

      I agree !! Lol

    • ecurbasil

The one on Cranston St in Cranston does!

    • Dawn

Not RI but if you’re up for a drive the one in Raynham is nice. They’re opening a new one in Fall River too 🙂

  8. Erin

I love popping in Aldis but I’m not sure I’d bother if I had brave Kohls to do it.

    • Lucy

Same here. I despise kohl’s and avoid it. I will not shop kohl’s to get to aldi😂

  9. Denise

    I agree very odd combo

  10. Liz

i didnt even know about this,…..and i live in Waukesha WI …

  11. Denise

I was just wondering how this will work around Christmas when kohl’s usually has long check out lines. Aldi customers are use to fast moving checkouts. This will be interesting!

    • Lo

Whaaaaat I’m not used to a speedy check out. My ALDI always has 1 cashier and everyone shops a whole months worth of groceries. It’s forever Kohl’s christmas lines at my ALDI.

      • Paulene

It says Aldis will be next door. So that means they won’t use the same checkout!!! …

  12. Macey

Mind blown. Can’t wait to watch this happen.

  13. tipaye

What an odd combination 🤔…thanks for sharing 🙂

  14. Michelle

That’s an hour from me!! Too long to drive for convenience but man I wish it was a little closer! I love both stores!

  15. Dawn

Weird combo for sure. Love Kohls, not a fan if Aldi. Should be interesting…

    • Deb

      Agree totally

  16. Sammie

I personally don’t think it’s that weird because I’m used to shopping at Fred Meyer (Kroger) and it has shoes, clothing, home goods and clothing. Especially nice during the busy holidays so I can pick up that roasting pan I need, a new dress for my daughter and the thanksgiving meal groceries all in one stop.

    • Sarah

      Good point.

  17. Tiffany

The linked article states, “Aldi and Kohl’s will share no common interior space, and the stores will have separate entrances”. It sounds like kohl’s is trying to downsize the store size and profit off that extra space as well. It doesn’t sound too weird. If Aldi’s would come to Utah, I would be one happy girl.

  18. Ibetht

It will be like going to Target to get milk and leaving with a full shopping cart.

    • Liza (Hip Sidekick)

That is so my life! LOL!

  19. Lisa P

I wonder if it will be like the Amazon/Whole Foods partnership, discount on items if we have a Kohl’s card?

  20. Mj

Kind of like a marks and spencers stores in England, i like the concept but do find it an interesting combo of brands…

  21. nina c

Hi there! I’m here just outside of Waukesha and let me tell you… I’m loving this combo… This Aldi’s is nailing it with super great produce and always nice prices on everything! my new fav thing to do after getting my essential groceries there is to browse the clearance at Kohl’s! Already found some great deals 😍

    • nina c

When Im shopping without the kids and have a little spare time…I have to go in and see 🙂 it’s brilliant on Kohl’s part… especially in an amazon world

      • Jodi P

Speaking of Amazon………..most Kohls stores will accept Amazon returns!

        • Jac

What?!? How does that work, Jodi?

    • Liza (Hip Sidekick)

SO cool to hear this Nina! I would LOVE to see this duo near me! 🙂 Awesome that you’re finding great deals too!

  22. Melissa

Not a Kohl’s fan but I’m guessing collaborating on lease space probably won’t affect Aldi shoppers and what we’ve grown to love. Fingers crossed anyway!

  23. Marion

    Seriously who needs this?

    • Mrs R

Me. I need this. Colorado needs Aldi.

  24. Sue

Actually not a new concept. Kohl’s started out as a grocery store added on the department store in the 1960’s. Closed the grocery stores in early 2000. Expanded their department stores and now are collaborating with a grocery store again.

  25. Rachel

It seems like some people are misunderstanding this. The way I read it is that Kohl’s will section off part of their space and it will be totally separate. Just like a strip mall has different doors for each business. I don’t understand this being inside the same square footage. I think it is really smart business.

    • Bryant

Yes, it’s clear a lot of people did not read the full post and jumped to comment. Typical of the internet though.

  26. Ana

I guess it’s convenient you do grocery and walk next door to kohl’s for clothes etc. would be cool if we could use Kohl’s rewards at Aldis wishful thinking! 🤪

  27. Lo

Makes some sense since Kohl’s doesnt want a shop that would compete with them. And it’s really like a target or Walmart combo

  28. Stephen Blair

It is similar to what Sears are doing to many of there stores. Some Sears store are downsized or closed and broken up into stores like Whole Foods, Dick Sporting Goods, At Home and Primemark

  29. Luwa

    Strangest marriage

  30. shan

Hurry up and do this in Northwest Louisiana!!!

    • Sara

Anywhere in Louisiana. There is no ALDI location anywhere in Louisiana. Baton Rouge is suffering too.

  31. Sarah

Not weird at all. We have a brand new Aldi built right next door to Kohl’s. So the new partnership means instead of building a brand new Aldi next door in a separate building, like what we got, they’ll be in the same building sectioned off into 2 stores. Our Kmart did this with Kroger, they walled off half the store and Kroger moved into that half. Totally separate businesses with separate doors. But it’s been a great thing because Kroger has brought neighboring foot traffic to struggling Kmart.

  32. georgeng

That’s a great idea, I always shop at Aldi, never at Kohl’s so maybe I will be a customer for both since they partner

  33. Flora

Probably not going to happen in my small suburb as Aldi is right across the street from Kohl’s already

    • Jen

      Same here.

  34. Marie

Love this. Would definately visit Kohls when I needed to go to Aldi and vice versa. I like being able to hit a couple of stores near each other in one trip. Cool.

  35. Garfield

If this is what it takes to bring Aldi to NV I am all for it.

  36. susiern

Two of my most favorite stores in my home town!! Basically shop only clearance at Kohls with coupons ,Kohls cash & rewards. And Aldi is my go to store for groceries, great prices & a nice variety of items.

  37. Judy Trac @ lipscomb

    Who cares

  38. leslie

hallelujah! An answer to the walmart superstore!

  39. Evelyn

Being that Aldi is a German store, I’m not surprised about combining groceries with Kohl’s. I have visited England many times and in the UK, there is a store chain called M & S (Marks and Spencers) which is very similar to Kohl’s and they have a grocery section. It actually works very well. It will be interesting to see if it works over here. The M & S stores I’ve visited have been in the city so space is at a premium and people probably appreciate the convenience.

  40. Joe Fisk

    Guess I’ll start shopping Lidl.

  41. Dawn

My daughter works at Kohl’s and it was remodeled after Harvey. They reduced the floor plan down to about 2/3 remaining. It only has one entrance and a new wall separates the 2 spaces now. Its had a for lease sign on that end part for a year, and we wondered who in the world would find that usable. Aldi would because they are small. Our Kohls is attached to Target with nothing else in the strip center, so adding Aldi wouldn’t be too strange. And yes, Kohls is super overpriced and even with discounts my daughter doesn’t shop there!

  42. Lisa

I live near the new Aldis in Waukesha. I think it is a great combo especially since Aldis is my favorite grocery store and kohl’s is my favorite retail store! It is a great combo and i look forward to more opening.

  43. B.Joy

I like the idea! If you think about it, they are doing the same thing Target & Walmart did. They never used to have a full line of grocery. Its a great idea if it helps from keeping stores from closing. Rent, utilities & upkeep are so high & this could allow them to stay open.
