New and existing Hulu customers are now able to get the basic streaming package for just $5.99 per month, instead of the previous $7.99 price (existing subscribers will see price changes in their subsequent billing cycle). At this price, Hulu subscribers can stream more than 85,000 episodes of on-demand television, thousands of movies, and award-winning Hulu Originals with ads.

Note that the Hulu (No Ads) plan, which offers no commercials and features the same massive library of on-demand TV and movies, is still priced at $11.99 per month.

I do not understand this. I cancelled hulu with live TV last month because if you have live TV, you HAVE to watch commercials, even in the on demand menu. The whole reason to stream is to avoid those ridiculous commercials!

    • Jackie

We fast forward through them. You can’t go past what isn’t on air yet though. Sometimes we’ll start the show a little later than it airs so we can skip past the commercials.

    • Sara

When you have live tv, you can still pay $6 more to get rid of the ads on the on-demand service.

Anyone who already subscribes: Does this plan have a high number of commercials? How many commercials would I see in a 22-25 minute sitcom? Thank you!

    • Krisp

The ones on my screen are 90 seconds, there is a timer counting it down so in that 90 seconds you might see 2-3 different ads vs one. This occurs I think 4 times during a 30 min show.

    • MekaRTR

Commercials are excessive at all IMO.

    • hirawn83

its not that bad, 4-6 commercials per episode.

  3. Denise

Check ibotta looks like new subscribers may get 10 bucks back

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing, Denise! I’m not finding that offer as I search through. Darn!

    • Brian Puhalsky

Sweet..Just signed up through Ibotta!!! Great way to try it for a few months darn near free. Thanks Denise

  4. Jennifer

I wish I could stand commercials but we’ve gone without them for so long I can’t imagine having to deal with them again!

    • Jo

You get used to it! I thought the same thing, but we decided to downgrade to save money. It was so annoying at first but now we are used to it, and it doesn’t even phase us. We take the time to get snacks, drinks, even just to comment on what just happened on the show lol.

      • Marie

Yeah i lie them actually. Not to watch but to get stuff done in between breaks like throw clothes in the wash real fast or slowly prep dinner lol

      • riss

Same here. Good for bathroom breaks esp when you’re binge-watching 😉

  5. Denise

Off topic…the grey weighted 60×80 blanket you posted yesterday with minky cover is a lightening deal right now at 21% off

  6. swilson86*!

Do this apply to subscriptions that have both Hulu & Spotify Premium? I have this subscription package.

  7. Angela

I signed up for Hulu with the deal at Chris for 99 cents a month for 12 months. I thought I wouldn’t use it because of the commercials, but I actually don’t mind them. It’s like having regular tv. It gives you the chance of running to the bathroom, grabbing something from the kitchen or to check your phone. It’s seriously not bad. Considering I usually pause on Netflix a few times anyways.

    • Nana

      Same here!

    • Jamie

I’m thinking about adding Hulu and holding out until the end of the year when they offer the 99 cents a month thing again. I currently have Netflix. I like a lot of the 80’s and 90’s shows I’m hearing that are currently offered on Hulu.

Does it stay 99 cents indefinitely, I wonder? Or after a year, will it change in price at some point?

      • MrsGarfield

It will change to full price. Also there’s no guarantee that they offer it again. They have never had it in the past.

        • candace

Yeah I’ve never seen it before but you never know. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with them. I did the 99 cent/month for a year plus $10 ibotta credit so $1.98 for a whole year of hulu. Cant argue there.

You took the words out of my mouth! I feel the same way.

I subscribed to the 11.99 commercial free plan. I loved it. Thought it was well worth it to avoid the commercials. I have never taken the time to figure out the Hulu live package because its more than I want to pay. I was watching another service last night and every 7 minutes the program was stopped and 10 commercials were shown – that is too many for period and especially when paying for tv!

Sprint is my cell phone provider and they offer Hulu for free with any “unlimited plan.” Does anyone know if this is equivalent to the Basic Streaming plan? Or is it something different altogether?

    • Megan

I have it through Sprint and it is the basic plan. If you decide to upgrade you are billed through Sprint.

    • Shannon

I had the basic (ads) plan through sprint. I upgraded to the no ads plan thinking I would just pay the difference. I was wrong. Sprint charged me the whole amount. $11.99 I think.

  10. Kate

Anyone else hooked on The Handmaid’s Tale?

    • Just passing through

Of course!! But since I binge watch, the time gap is killing me. I do hate the main character tho.
My mom couldn’t get past the ceremony so she didn’t get hooked.

    • Gayla P

Yes! Watching it now. A friend recommended it and it is the only reason I subscribed to Hulu in the first place. I got the Black Friday deal for $0.99/mo for a year.

  11. Stacy G

Can you get live sports through Hulu?
Trying to figure out a way to get hockey and canceling my dish.
    Thanks

    • Beth

Sling blue $25 per month /You can add sports extra for $5 a month for more sports channels if you need them. You get a lot of other channels besides sports included. Have been using this for 3 years now, very good. Will keep using it the price stays in this range.

    • Bev

Yes,we get lots of sports channels with Hulu live.

  12. Skinbyshelly

I’m over here still paying only .99 because of the awesome deal posted on here over the holidays.

  13. Casey Meyers

The commercials don’t even bother me. I would rather pay less and see a few commercials then a higher price. Every penny ads up.

  14. Gayla P

  15. steve broon

Hulu is giving TV fans what they want choice, flexibility and control in what they watch, how they watch and what they pay for the TV plan that best suits their needs. * Hulu’s new pricing will go into effect beginning February 26 for new subscribers. Existing subscribers will see these changes reflected in their subsequent billing cycle after February 26

  16. Desiree

We originally signed up for Hulu + Live because it was cheaper than cable tv package + internet. With Hulu’s recent price hike in November 2019, this is no longer the case. Hulu + Live costs us $61.27/month (taxes included). We can get the same package through our cable provider (Spectrum) for $49.99/month. At the end of January 2020 we’ll be going back to cable.

So depending on what you’re wanting, “cutting the cord” may actually be more expensive than offerings by your cable company, which defeats the purpose of streaming services to begin with.

    • ROSE SMAIL

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE NUMBER FOR HULU.I WOULD LIKE TO GET IT.Just post the number on here.

  17. Phil anzalone

Are the following channels included in BASIC HULU:abc, cbs, fox, nbc, fox news, hallmark, history, tvland, and natgeo??

    • Sara

Basic Hulu doesn’t have live TV. It only has on-demand programming like Netflix. You’re thinking of Hulu + Live TV.

  18. Lori Jones

I had the Hulu $5.99 plan & decided to try the HULU Live. I decided Hulu Live was not for me so I changed back to my original plan. Here’s the issue: Before upgrading, I could access my Hulu account from any location (i.e., a friend’s house, a motel while on vacation, etc.). Now that I have changed back, I can only access Hulu from my home or my computer, because it says I am not on my home network if I try accessing it from anywhere else. I am now ticked off and frustrated. Not to mention ready to cancel completely.
