My son just got a switch. How do these digital downloads work? Do you have the game permanently on your switch afterwards?

I just bought two codes from amazon then entered codes into the switch console and they are loading and will be there permanently. Hope that helps

Only thing with buying digital games on the switch is that you need a micro sd card to hold all the games. The switch only comes with 32gb of storage, some of which is already taken by the OS. So there isn’t much room left to have games downloaded onto it unless you buy the games from the retail store in the box (the games are stored on the card and play directly off the game card). So if you want to buy a bunch of games digitally then you will need a high capacity micro sd card. But you’ll want to buy from “trusted” brands for SD cards though (my opinion) such as San Disk or Samsung or PNY as some of the few I know of, also make sure the Micro SD cards are high speed to say the least (you can check by seeing if the card has a U with 1 or 3 inside it or it says class 10 on it. Those are what Nintendo recommends for use with the switch. However amazon has been having quite very generous deals on micro SD cards for those brands lately. Amazon recently had a one day deal on San Disk storage and had a 400gb Micro SD card on sale for 60$ (Bought the same one 2 months ago on sale for 90$) They also have Samsung Micro SD cards on sale all the time. They have a 128gb Samsung class 10 U3 Micro SD card that is perfect to use for the switch on sale at Amazon for 25$ (tax included). That is enough to hold a number of games for the switch before it fills up. If you’re looking for long term and looking to buy digital games more so instead of the physical games then you may want to look at the 400gb San Disk Micro SD card on amazon, it’s on sale now for 76.00 (not including tax). That will last your son and yourself a long time before you have to buy another Micro SD card. I’ll provide the links for both if I’m able to.

NP =) Just thought I’d help parents know what else they will need when getting a switch since nowadays you need a lot more than just the console itself nowadays.

We just picked up a Switch tonight. Will get the cheaper SD for now. Thank you so much Joe and H2S!!

Nice, Nintendo also has about 5 Select Mario games on sale at the moment, the digital versions for 20$ off from select retailers such as best buy and walmart and a few others. Mario Kart 8 deluxe is a very good one and can be played with up to 4 players and only use one joy con per person. You can buy the game now and redeem the code now then download it later on when the micro sd card comes from amazon if you don’t want to miss the sale. =)
