Readers LOVE the Vera Bradley Weekender Bag! Check out these reviews…

I have both the weekender and the duffel bag. I use the weekender bag as a carry-on and it will fit under the seat. Has lots of inside pockets for charging cords, sunglasses, etc. I use the duffel bag for car trips. It has two outside pockets on the ends but no inside pockets. Love both bags for different uses.

My daughter and I both have the weekender. I love them! They are perfect for a weekend getaway. And I can fit all of her random items that a four year old is convinced she needs to take along.

I got one from the last sale and I love it so much! My husband and I travel all the time and it’s perfect for me.

I have the weekender and use it all the time. Definitely worth getting at this price.

Anyone with experience, can you use the weekender and a carryon size suitcase without checking either?

    • Kim

The weekender can fit under your seat as your personal item. Then the roller bag would go in the overhead compartment. But remember that you can only have two items so your purse needs to go in the weekender.

I used a weekender as my free bag on Spirit airlines in January…. I had it packed full but was still able to smooch it down to fit perfectly & had no issues.

Which weekender? The medium or compact size? I’m flying in April and don’t want to have to check a bag if I don’t have to. Thanks

        • ldtindc

The regular (medium) weekender or the iconic weekender. They both work.

I use the Vera Bradley campus tech bag as my personal item, and it’s awesome. It has a bunch of pockets so it holds a ton neatly. My favorite feature is the luggage loop on the back so it can slide over the pull up handle of my rolling carry on. I’ve traveled with it numerous times including multiple international trips and I’ve never had an issue with it fitting under the seat. I got it from the actual Vera store, not an outlet; I’m not sure if the quality is the same from the outlet.

I got my first vera bag on clearance recently….it’s just like a huge tote bag. Well I put groceries in it & some condensation from frozen foods got in it (a significant amount, but it wasn’t totally soaked or anything), so I just let it dry out. Well, now all the little patches of material on the bottom of the bag have come off. Is this common? I figured it was just water….never imagined it would react more like I spilled acetone in it! Don’t think I’ll be buying anymore fabric vera bags. I’ve always wanted 1 of these weekend bags, but seems the material is way too easily destroyed for my taste.

I’ve always had great experiences with Vera Bradley being high quality and lasting

    • Kel

I had a Vera Bradley duffle destroyed when I checked it on an international flight. Since it was multiple planes in multiple countries, none of the airlines would take responsibility. I took it into a Vera Bradley store and they let me pick a brand new one from their shelves! The one I had was a retired pattern, but I had gotten it on clearance. Anyway, I’d highly recommend taking it into a store. They stand behind their products!

Anyone else have comments on which bags have worked as their personal item?
    (Not carryon)

    • Heather

I bought the grand cargo the last time there was an outlet sale, and I am in love with it! The quality is very nice. I bought the Winter Berry. I never owned anything Vera Bradley before and I have about six bags now. I think it would work well for a carry on. I also own the get carried away bag which is huge. The large duffel would be too big, I also own one of them. I highly recommend the grand cargo. I have heard it is similar to the weekender, but I don’t own that one.

    • Carlene

I love the Miller Travel bag for my personal item. I can put my crossbody purse, travel pillow, iPad, sweater and plenty of snack in it. Still fits under the seat!

    • Jenn

I accidentally responded to the wrong person on this – I feel strongly enough about my carry on to reply again, LOL! If you look at the replies to Fran I shared my love for the VB campus tech backpack. = )

    • CJJ

I have their biggest backpack available and it for under my seat! Plus it is way easier to carry through the airport on my back than a bag with a single shoulder strap.

    • ldtindc

I can attest that the iconic weekender works perfectly as the free carry-on on Spirit Airlines.

These are all outlet style bags. Cheap quality. If you read comments below many items – buyers complained items lack important details like solid stiff support board in the bottom of the weekender bag to give sturdy durability and shape. Patterns are cheaper duller fabric than regular Vera Bradley. The factory version ain’t worth it!

    • Carlene

I agree that the factory style isn’t the quality of the regular Vera but not everything on the outlet sale is the factory version.

      • 50ShadesofLipstick

How can you tell which bags are from Vera Bradley’s regular line and which are the factory version?

  6. Laurie Villotta

I have a very nice collection of Vera stuff. All of my pieces have been dirt cheap on clearance. The quality has been amazing and I have never had an issue with fading or rips etc even when checking the piece to my next destination. I have some really nice Disney prints.

    • qna2010

I’ve been purchasing Vera for over 20 years and my outlet pieces have lasted just as long as the in store or regular website

  7. Miriam

I’ve tried everything and can’t find Weekender bags at this price. Help?

    • M

      It’s only certain colors.
They cost more and then the 30% shows up in your final Cart.

  8. Diana

I got a bag, tumbler and id/coin wallet for $39! A bag i bought after christmas was even cheaper! Ughhhhhh .

  9. Carrie

Thanks for sharing this deal! I was able to get my daughter a book bag she has been wanting (but we haven’t bought due to price). It wasn’t a clearance item but was significantly marked down. The additional 30% came off in my cart and I was able to get it for a great price.

    • Liza (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome Carrie! Glad you could snag an item from your daughter’s wish list! 🙂

I have many Vera items and all of them were purchased at a VB Outlet store near me. Over the weekend the outlet store had 60% off the entire store, plus an additional 20% off, and the store was packed! I have never noticed them to be of poorer material or quality. I have washed them successfully in my washing machine and then hung them to dry. I just returned from a baseball spring training trip and used a VB tote (not sure which style) as my personal item. It worked well to hold my iPad, cross-body purse, 311 Ziplock, and a few snacks. I never tried checking any of my VB bags, because luggage takes a beating when checked, and I also need a suitcase because I have trouble packing light!

    • PV

So are you saying the things from the outlet stores have the internal solid color quilt layer like they have in the Factory Style and they hold up just as fine ?? I am on the edge if I should get the Factory style large duffel or not

      • Sue

I apologize for not being able to answer your question. I don’t know what “factory style” means. All of my VB items come from a brick and mortar VB Outlet store. I’ve never seen anything there called “factory style”. The items are same as a VB retail store, but the patterns are all retired ones, not new or current ones. I have not purchased anything from the online outlet. Perhaps another reader, who has used the online outlet, would be able to help you decide on your purchase.
